Just built a K8N Diamond system with Silverstone Zeus 650w PSU - wont boot

Hi
I just built a system with a K8N Diamond and a Silverstone 650w PSU. When I turn on the PSU i get a "thumping" sound from it for a short while and a green light on the back panel of the pc case. No fans or anything else starts to run. I have connected both cables to the mainboard from the PSU, and everything else, gfx, harddrive and so on. Any suggestions?
Correction: I have not connected any of the cables with power swith, leds and so on..

1 x MSI K8N Diamond
2 x Gainward 6800 Ultras in SLI mode
1 x WDD Raptor S-ATA
1 x keyboard
2x256mb Corsair dual channel ram in the green slots
I have connected both cables to the mainboard to power it up, and the cpu fan and a case fan. I have not connected the series of cables with hdd led, power switch and so on..
When i turn on the psu i get a "thumping" sound.. a strange sound i havent heard from any psus before. and the only activity i get from the mainboard is the green light for a short while when i turned on the psu. *frustrated*

I have a PowerBook 145B but something is wrong with the systemfolder so it wont boot. I've downloaded System 7.0.1 from Apple and put it on Floppys with my Macintosh Classic. The PowerBook boots from the floppy but after a minute it just comes up a window thats completely white.
I've tried a lot of things, but my Macintosh classic (with original floppys) runs 7.0.0. And the PowerBook needs atleast 7.0.1 and did run 7.1.0 as original OS.
    How do I fix this?

Because your PowerBook 145B shipped with OS 7.1, it can't run an earlier version of the Mac OS, such as 7.0.1.  Unfortunately, Apple never made OS 7.1 available for download.  You can run OS 7.5.1, 7.5.3, and 7.5.5 on your PowerBook, but I'd recommend doing so with the maximum amount of supported memory - 8 MBs.  The 19-part download of OS 7.5.3 is segmented, so that each one will fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk.  The problem is that the 19-diskette set isn't an installer set as such, having no bootable disk.  It's solely intended to be used to transfer the individual segments to the resident hard drive in the computer.  Once that's done, double-clicking the first .smi segment creates the OS 7.5.3 installer disk image on the desktop, which you drag onto the hard drive icon.  This produces a folder with the OS 7.5.3 installer in it.  I've done this before with an old Mac LC and it works.  You can also download the 3-diskette OS 7.5.5 Update and run that.  These downloads can be found on the same page where you found the OS 7.0.1 download: Older Software Downloads.

  • K8N Diamond SLI with FX-55 (San Diego) and 2 sets dual-channel RAM @ 400MHz ?

I currently run this with Patriot 2048MB DDR PC3200 DUAL KIT 1024MB x 2, 400Mhz, CL2-3-2-5 (PDC2G3200LLK). I plan to buy another kit like this and would like to run the system with 4GB at the same RAM-speed as with 2GB. Is this possible?

    ap1978,
It comes down to how well the Memory Controller on your CPU can handle 4 sticks of RAM.
Btw, could you tell us what you will be running that needs 4Gb of RAM?
    Take Care,

  • HT201274 Hello there, I have erased all data and settings from my IPAD about 10 hours ago and it just shows a line across it with the apple logo, it wont connect to my laptop either. Please help

Hello there, can someone help me please. I erased all data and settings last night and now my IPAD just shows a line across it with the apple logo. It is not responding to the on / off switch. I have connected the IPAD to my laptop so i can reinitilise it but nothing is happening - it doesn't appear as a device on my laptop (the USB port is working OK) Has anyone else experienced this and how did you overcome it? Thanks

thanks for the reply gdgmacguy! but is there any way to stop it? i was thinking of just manually uninstalling apps and deleting contacts. i cant wait any longer, lol.

  • Is it possible to have a dual boot system with Windows that can ALSO be booted into a virtual machine optionally?

I have been looking for a solution to this for some time now.  I want the convenience of a virtual Windows environment that can run simultaneously with OS X Lion--something I have right now using Virtualbox.  But at the same time, there are graphics and processor-intensive Windows applications (for me, games and engineering applications) that don't run well at all in a virtual machine.  So, here is what I am looking for:
A dual boot (i.e. bootcamp) system running Windows 7 and OS X Lion in which the Windows 7 machine can EITHER be booted as a virtual machine while running OS X OR booted physically so as to utitlize all system resources.  The real trick however, is that I I want the virtual machine and the physical machine to be the exact same system.  Meaning, if I boot physically into Windows and change something... rename a file, run a program and create a file, etc...  those changes will all appear in the virtual machine.
Now, what are my options?  I have read about Virtualbox and VMWare Fusion's "Raw Disk access" function but I can't tell if that's what I'm looking for or not...  I half-thought that they were talking about converting a physical OS into a virtual machine, but without the intention of booting the physical OS again...
Also, I'm open to any software, free or otherwise.  Thanks!

both VMWare Fusion & Parallels Desktop for Mac can use a bootcamp Windows installation as VM exactly like you want.

  • KM4M-v with AMD Athlon XP 1500+ wont boot.

ok... this seems to be semi common, and yes i checked the PSU, ram, hdd, cpu seating, cooler seating.. etc etc.  im stumpped.
    PSU:  Dynex DX-PS300W 300W
    +5v - 30A
    +12V - 15A
    +3.3 - 20A
    -5V - .5A
    -12v - .8A
    +5Vsb - 2A
    CPU:
    AMD Athlon XP 1500+
New thermal coumpound, triple checks seating, and cooler seating.
tryed with one stick of ram, both sticks,
Tryed with no HDD both HDD(sepparatly and together)
    Tryed with floppy Diconnected.
tryed with NO drives at all.
i have tryed everything i can think of.  this machine refuses to boot. the PSU is 45 min old.  this is the third PSU i have tryed.  all in varying strengths.  including the 450 PSU from the fisrts system in my sig.  all to no avail.  when i hit the power button on the front all that happens iss the CPU fan spins up and dies, the PSU fan does the same, and then the machine dies.  the mouse, and KB LED's stay lit as if it was in stand-by.  there ane NO PCI cards installed, no AGP.  im at my wits end.        HELP!!!!

Stay lit, but no way you (can) reach BIOS? Do you know how to clear CMOS? Perhaps it is looking for a PS2 mouse or keyboard, some booting device, or something completely different. Don't forget to pull power cable if you clear CMOS.
I guess you have checked for visible damage to the mobo, extra stand-offs behind it, and loose connections already.
If above doesn't work, the next step for me would be to reseat the processor. And next to dump the mobo.
Edit: Of course, the processor must also be controlled or tried in another system.
Yes no extra stand offs, and the board looks to be in perfect shape.  came like it is... and the connections are firmly seated. hdd, power etc, all firmly plugged in.
happen to know if the 1500+ wprks on the k7n2 delta2 platinum?
only other AMD board in the house.
*Edit* Cpu seems to be fried, turns out my son got to more than just the old mobo.  the cpu is an amd athlonXP 1700+ based on the numbers on the chip.  and yes it does work with a K7N2 Delta2 Platinum. and no my CPU does not work.  thanks for the time and extra eyes.

    Hi,
If you upgrade to Windows 8 (install in UEFI mode) and apply the posted BIOS update then you should be able to get to video card to work.
Be sure to create a set of the external HP recovery media before installing a new operating system.

  • 2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus

    Hi there.
I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
    Here's my configuration:
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 X2 4400+
    ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
    Decklink Extreme PCI-E
    2GB  RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
    OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
    plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.
    =======================
The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
And I don't have a clue about what's going on.
    =======================
Please enlighten me with this questions if possible.
    Thank you very much.
    Greets.
    Igor Bineli

Remove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use.  Save and exit.
Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card,  and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one.

  • Cant Overclock With K8N Diamond Plus

I recently upgraded from stock cooling and thought I would give overclocking a try. I have a K8N Diamond Plus with the latest BIOS on the MSI site. When I change any settings in the BIOS to overclock they do not work. They are saved in the BIOS, just not showing in Windows. For example, I set the FSB to 210 just to test, but when I check Nvidia Monitor it still shows the FSB at 200 and the CPU is still running at stock. What could be the problem?

    hello,
update your BIOS to ver. 3.0A should be fine. ----->  https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=101664.0

  • K8N Diamond Plus & Corecell- temp & voltage accurate?

I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecell is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecell for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?

You can post more then one item per thread..
Since you already have a thread running, I am locking this one.
You can copy and paste to your other thread if you like.

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
Also, since my other thread was locked (I figured seperating two different topics would make it easier for people to respond to specific questions, I apologize,) here's my other question pasted:
"I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-

Thanks for any help you can give.  No sig yet because I just registered an hour ago, I'll work on it.

  • K8N Diamond Plus shutdown issue

I am running the K8N Diamond Plus with bios 1.2
    3500+ <stock ghz>
    2x1gb corsair
    1 74gb raptor
    1 7900GT 256
    2 samsung dvd burners
    OCZ520ADJSLI powersupply
    2 case fans
Recently, my powersupply went out and i ordered a new one.. same model...when i hooked it up and turned on the computer, Windows loaded, i logged and shortly after i logged in, the computer shutdown... like, no blue screen, no reboot... it just turned off like it was shuttingdown or someone pulled the power cord.
confused, i hit the power button and the computer turned back on, but this time, it barely made it to the login screen and it shut off again.. each time, i would turn it on, it would shut off sooner than the previsous time.  so i stripped everything out.. no fans, no hd, do dvds, different ram, same cpu, same vid card.  This time i just booted to the bios.  at 30 seconds it turned off. i turned it back on. at 23 seconds it shut off, i turned it back on. at 15 seconds it shut off, i turned it back on... it got to the point that as soon as i would hit the power button, it would shut off...
thinking that i could of possible received a bad power supply, i hooked it up to a different mother board.  this system did not shut off.
any ideas on what could be going on?  unfortunatly at this time i do not have another power supply to test on this board. I will pick one up if people think the power supply could be the problem.
    thanks in advance!!

hello, sound like a bad new psu to me did you plug in both mobo connectors? do you have a volt meter to ck psu outputs might try that. another psu would be the next thing to try.  good luck Henry

  • Tips for my K8N Diamond Plus

so although i have been into hardware for awhile now i have never really been a big OC'er.  it was never something i really wanted to do since i work my arse off to get my hardware.  my buddy recently OC'ed his micro-ATX board with his AMD 3700+ from 2.2 to 2.9 on a stock heatsink and he is sitting stable.  this got me thinking and wanting to try out a bit of OC'ing just to see what i am able to push my system until i upgrade from my current CPU to a new 4400+ dual core.  so here is my system and im just looking for tips/a quick walkthrough of what i need to tweak to OC my box and keep it stable.
CPU: AMD 3500+ 939-socket, Newcastle core stock at 2.2ghz
MoBo: MSI K8N Diamond Plus with the 3.09 BIOS
RAM: 2x1gig sticks of PQI Turbo 400mhz/PC3200 timings of 3-4-4-7
    PSU: Sunbeam 550watt SLI certified
    Video Cards: 2x eVGA 7900gt's SLI'ed
that is basicly the big stuff, i have  a X-FI soundcard and all SATA HDD's and stuff but that stuff doesnt really matter too much when it comes to OC'ing.  anyways, im just looking for directions on what i should set my stuff to.  if you could also through in a run down of how HT, the multiplier, my FSB, and the DRAM/FSB settings affect each other i would really appreciate it.
basicly all i would need is something like this for my settings:
    multiplier:
    vcore:
    FSB:
    DRAM/FSB:
    mem timings:
    HT settings:
and anything else i have left out.
again, i would really appreciate the help.

geez guys, can't believe you haven't spoted the mistake yet.
first, the newcastle is socket 754, there is no newcastle core for socket 939.
    k8n diamond plus doesn't have a 3.09 BIOS.
so iostream, please make sure that you get the details correctly.

  • Replacing K8N Diamond motherboard - Need advise

    Greetings
I would like to have some advise on the following:
    1) I have a K8N Diamond motherboard. Suspect to be faulty. If I replace the suspected faulty motherboard with another new K8N Diamond motherboard, do I need to reinstall the OS (Window xp sp2) as well? Or alternatively can I just do a OS repair when I replace the motherboard.
    2) If I replace the suspected faulty K8N Diamond motherboard with a new K8N Diamond plus, do I need to reinstall the OS (Window xp sp2) or an OS repair will be sufficient?
    Thanks
    Best Regards
