Just curious as to if I should be charging my mac every time im using it or when the battery gets low? i just want to make my battery last.

when im not charging it I find when im doing a lot of browsing on social media and with pictures it goes through it fast kinda, and when im just writing documents it doesnt go as fast. My friend said I should only charge it when I need the computer for a long time.

An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. Need a reminder? Add an event to your desktop’s iCal. When your battery no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, you may choose to replace it. If your notebook came with a built-in battery, you should have the battery replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Try:

Every time i put a clip into the timeline it crashes and just has the color wheel i have to force quit the program.

It sounds like you may have purchased a CreatePDF subscription through safari, using our web interface. If this is the case, the good news is that subscription will also work with the (free) Adobe Reader. Simply install the Reader from the App Store:

Once installed, you can then use "Open In" from another app like Mail to open the Word document in Adobe Reader. Reader will show the word doc, but it will also show you a message pointing to the "convert" button (A document with an arrow through it in the toolbar). Pressing this button should prompt you to sign into Acrobat.com. Use the same account you used to purchase your subscription and Reader will upload the word document for conversion, placing it in the Acrobat.com and Outbox section of the Reader. What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

This sounds like a job for Disk Utility ... but that's located in the Utilities folder ....
Fortunately, there's a spare copy of Disk Utility on the setup disks you should have received with your computer. You need to boot the computer from the setup disk, then find Disk Utility. Inside Disk Utility, "mount" your hard drive and run Repair Disk, then Repair Permissions.

Be sure to start your iMac using its original grey System Install DVD: Insert that disc and start your Mac while holding the d key. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen select Disk Utility and format the hard disk. Select "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)".
Then, install OS X.

I believe that system has a hall sensor on it to detect when the lid is closed so it can put the system to sleep and/or disable the monitor so it can be used with an external monitor only. If the sensor is marginal or has a bad cable, it may intermittently cut the monitor on and off, and may likewise put the system to sleep. One way to check would be to plug in an external monitor and if the laptop's screen cuts off or doesn't show up, start using the trackpad and press on a non-typing key like the shift key. If the external display suddenly pops and becomes active while the laptop display remains black, it's probably a problem with the sensor or the cable/connection. You might be able to fool the sensor into kicking on and off by moving a magnet over it. It's located on the left had side of the base with the unit opened up, and right over the audio output plug.
I know of some people that put a small magnet right over the hall sensor's location so the laptop display turns off and they use the system with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If fooling with magnets, make sure they're small and don't get them close to the hard drive because a strong magnet can wipe them out.
I don't know if this will help you much, but it might.
