If really dstroyed then Apple will not exchange it for a refurbished on for the prices discssed previously. Apple says:

Apple does not repair iPhones, but will replace the entire iPhone for a flat fee. If you do not have AppleCare+ on your iPhone, see the Service Pricing section here:

If you have AppleCare+ coverage, the cost will be less; in the US it's $49.
There are independent iPhone repair services that may be able to do the repair for less than Apple's out-of-warranty charge. Do a web search for "iPhone repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPhone serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty and support will be voided.

I recently just dropped my iPhone 5c, the screen is blank and it will not turn on (pitch black until i press lock button then it turns a little blue). siri works if i hold down the button but the screen is still pitch black. the screen is also completely popped out. If the phone was NOT unlocked, it can't work or be activated with any other carrier than AT&T. It CAN'T be used with Tigo or Movistar.

ThanksIf you have AppleCare+, for the $49 filing fee, you can use one of your two allowed accidental damage claims. You must turn in an intact iPhone to be eligible (it can, of course be damaged, but all the parts need to be there).
Otherwise, nothing in Apple's warranty covers accidental damage. The accidental damage claim is a special insurance rider only with AppleCare+, allowing two claims, with the associated fee each time.
All you need is the broken phone - they will pull everything else they need off their system from the serial number and your info.
