Just formatted my mac but iLife (from original disc) will not install

hi all!
I've done a routine format of my Macbook Pro 13" a couple of weeks ago, it all went well but I seem not to be able to install the bundled applications from the orignal, grey cd that came with my mac.
I insert the cd, start the procedure then just after keying in my admin password the insatllation stops...i.e. it fails to start.
As new, my machine runs OSX 10.6.6 but I've already upgraded to 6.8 ... I've tried to install iLife before and after upgrading.
I've been to an Apple Store — since my laptop is less than a year old — but they say warranty doesn't cover software...in any case, I've also tried to install an iPhoto downloaded from the internet, but with the same results, so I'm thinking it might not be a corrupt disc...
Any idea other than re-formatting the machine?
thanks!
dani

Erase and install 10.6 again, but this time use the Security Option > Zero All Data on the drive, you have bad sectors.
Reducing bad sectors effect on hard drives
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If that doesn't work, then your cd is bad. clean it and try again or try extracting iLife using Pacifist. (but you need your bad sector issue resolved)
Also run through this list and get back with me, I doubt anything else is a problem on a fresh install, but there might be.

My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with two Macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network and it's telling me I'm connected but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

Thank you, I've tried the support tips (resetting the network, checking security settings, etc.) and rebooting the network devices several times to no avail. I've actually been working on this for several days (when I can afford to have the network down).
What I have to determine is what has changed in the setup...from when it WAS working just fine with all devices.

  • I have upgraded to a new computer and Windows 8.  I cannot install Photoshop 6 which was an upgrade version from Windows 5.5, 5, 5.  The original 5 will not install and without it, the Photoshop 6 has no original version to load from.

How do I install Photoshop 6 on Windows 8., when my original Windows 5 will not install?

If you were actually talking about CS5.5 and an upgrade to CS6, you only need the serial numbers from both products.  Adobe's installer will look for CS5.5 on your system and when it doesn't find it, you will be prompted to enter that qualifying product's serial number.

Thanks very much for the advice. I trawled through the other answers on the site and it appears others had the same issue. I doubled the available space and the install went like clockwork... which is what one would norma;ly expect from Apple :-)
Maybe Apple should have a ' definitely read me first' notice before a download takes place with CLEAR instructions to have more than the 6GB they indicate ofr the Mountain Lion download

  • I have just purchased a mac book pro. I't will not boot and the keyboard is broken. Also it did not come with an install disc. It's a 2011 13" mac book pro. Any guidance would be appreciated. This is my first mac.

This suggests that your HDD may be corrupt.  In order to try and repair it, we must get into the recovery partition or use the original installation disks.  Try and start your MBP using COMMAND R.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
If that works, note the 4 option menu.  Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the disk.
If COMMAND R fails, try OPTION COMMAND R.  If that works, try the same as above with Disk Utility.
If neither works, it suggests that your MBP came with Snow Leopard.  You will need replacement disks which can be ordered from Apple customer service.  Have the serial number of the MBP handy and there is a charge.
    Ciao.

  • I need a new start up disc what do i do? i have one for my 12" powerbook g4 but i crashed on me i just got a 15" powerbook and the same disc will not reboot it says this disc will not work

i have a 10.4.2 start up and 10.5.8 is installed but has many probloms

    That site is not secure.
If you want to learn more about your Powerbook's age, use the Machine ID in Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info along with 3 digits of the serial number to determine what version it is.
    http://www.tinyurl.com/machineid
will tell you the range of machines it might be.
The serial number has only 3 important characters, and they are labeled ABC, where the x are any letter or number.
Some serial numbers are longer than others, but the 3rd, 4th and 5th place holder are the most important:
    xxABCxxxxx...
A is the last digit of the year of manufacture.
BC is the two digit week of manufactrure (which may be 03 for 3rd week).
    xx403xxxxx is the 3rd week of 2004.
What week, year, and Machine ID do you have?

  • You tube is fine but Video from other sites will not play in any browser all of a sudden. I have latest version of firefox (16.something) flash and all plug in

I cannot play videos from many sites. Everything was fine up until a few days aago. You tube works fine but others will not. I have firefox 16.something and latest versions of flash. All plug ins are there and enabled. Have read through many support threads and nothing is working. This happens on chrome and ie as well.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Mac OSX Photoshop Elements 11 upgrade will not install

I downloaded Photoshop Elements 11 (upgrade)  after purchase, and then tried to install.
I get the Agree to License page OK,
Enter Serial No - I get a green check mark,
I enter Adobe ID and Password, and it authenticates,
then the Option Page.  Product "Photoshop Elements ..." is shown with an icon and a grayed out check mark in the left column.
"Adobe Photoshop Elements ..." is in the column to the right, but the "All Components" is grayed out and cannot be clicked.
I have tried to click on the "Photoshop Elements ..." but nothing happens
The Install button is NOT grayed out
If I click the Install button, nothing happens - I mean nothing - no error indication,,,, nothing - it clicks in but nothing happens.
Is there a logfile somewhere which can tell me why it is not installing?
BTW, it is an upgrade but it never asks me for a previous full version serial number. Perhaps that is only done at activation?
    Thanks.

Thanks Jeff, but it only asks for the current serial number - Which I know is not right.
I did get it to install, however, by manually going in and deleteing all references to Adobe from my system.  The Installer is not handling an exception properly and is failing.  Sorry, that's a bug.  The offending file apparently was in /library/application support/Adobe.   For my purposes, I only have to re-install one additional product to insure that everything still works.  The fact that it installed an update without asking for a previous serial number is also a bug - perhaps the same bug not completely cleaned up.   My opinion is that they either have to fix the installer or offer a cleaner - maybe there is a cleaner but I did not know about it.  I am marking this as complete but the developers clearly have some work here.  Perhaps it is not possible to handle every exception - I can accept that also.

  • Re-Install of 10.4.6 from original DVD will not complete on MacBook Pro

I purchased a new MacBook Pro 15" laptop around Oct 1, 2006 and I am now unable to use it.
It came with 10.4.6 installed. I updated the system to 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 using update packages directly from the Apple site. Then I ran a Security Update to 10.4.8 and nothing has worked right since.
I tried using Disk Utility in every way and was always able to repair with no errors found. I tried to troubleshoot various applications to see if they were the issue with no improvement. The ultimate problem was the entire system would freeze and would have to be rebooted. Sometimes the system would boot up, sometimes the apple and gear would run and then a circle with a line through it would replace the apple symbol. Sometimes I would get the dreaded blinking folder with question mark. Most of the time rebooting could eventually get you to the desktop, but the system never worked for longer than 15 to 30 minutes.
So, I decided to reinstall 10.4.6 from the install DVD that came with my computer. I cannot get 10.4.6 re-installed. I have used disk utility to erase, repair, partition and so on and after a few tries it repairs succesfully.
I ran the Hardware test and it says no trouble found.
The install log ends with the following three errors:
    1. unable to copy package source file OSInstall.dist to destination reciept ...
    2. unable to copy package source file archive.bom to destination reciept
    3. Install failed: Some Files for Base System may not have been written correctly.
I am at the end of my rope. Please help. Thanks!

I agree...bad drive or bad controller or even a bad connection. Hardware issues on computers still under warranty should be dealt with by Apple. Even though you have already run the hardware test, there could still be a hardware problem. You could try booting from a disk repair utility like Disk Warrior but that means you would have to buy the utility and that's money you should not have to spend on a machine that is still covered by warranty.
There is one other thing you could try and that would to try and boot the computer into "safe mode" and try everything discussed in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Also, if you have access to another Mac, you could try booting your computer into target disk mode and then run disk repair from the other computer. Also, if you computer boots into target disk mode, you can copy any vital data and files before you hand it over to Apple for repair.

  • Imovie (bought from app store) will not install?

I hope someone can help! I have purchased imovie from the app store for my Mac Book Pro (OS X 10.6.8). When I click on it to instal it via the app store the icon appears in the dock and the download appears to progress as it should. After the installation is "complete" then icon in the dock simply disappears, but the app store tells me that it is "installed". I then open up the applications folder (because there is no longer an imovie icon in the dock, only when it is "installing"), and it is simply not there? Also tried using finder / manual search of whole computer! and can't find any sign of it?
After restarting computer I can go into the app store click on the icon and "install" it again? But still get the same problem.
Also installed a couple of simple apps from the app store to check that there's no bug in installing apps. Both successfully installed into the dock, no problems.
Can any one help? App is bought and payed for!

Bit of extra information: just looked in system preferences / software updates / installed software. Here it tells me it has been installed. By I still can't find it on my computer??

  • Original CS will not install on 10.6.5

I hope I won't get scolded for asking this question, but I bought the education version of CS when I was in college. I have had my emac since 2004 and have since bought a new imac with version 10.6.5. on it. I tried to reinstall my Creative Suite (the original version) Yes it's THAT old...but it said I needed to install rosetta to run it. I clicked yes, and nothing happened after that. Is it impossible to run CS on my new computer? I bought the computer refurbished and I can't believe I would have to spend more on new programs than the computer cost me. I use the old photoshop and illustrator all the time for personal use. Is there any way I can get my disks to load on my new computer? Please help!! I am the one and ONLY owner of these disks.
    Thanks!

Well I guess I have an answer to my question. I had to close all programs that were running on the computer. I tried to install it again. It installed until the end, it said I didn't have sufficient privileges to install. I changed my administrator password and tried again. It took FOREVER! A good 30 minutes, but it DID install. So I am a VERY happy Mac user once again. In time I will purchase the new programs, but until I can afford it, I am very happy I can still use my VERY OLD programs and run them on 10.6.5. Instead of deleting I just added this reply, just in case there was another one out there like me! LOL
    Cheers!

  • Mac Dreamweaver CS3 (and only DW) will not install - Web Premium Suite

[Previously posted here - suggested to post here instead]
cannot install Dreamweaver CS3. The error is shown here:
    http://flickr.com/photos/ianlloyd/1140427313/
Note: I previously took part in the DW9 (aka CS3?) beta
program but consistently had problems trying to install, so I
probably have some cruft left over.
Note also: I have used Spotlight to find anything with
Dreamweaver in the title that does not relate to DreamWeaver 8
(which is the version that I currently have running on my Mac with
    no problems).
    Please advise:
    # What file on my system is leading CS3 installer to believe
I have CS3 installed so that I can zap it
    # Any other clean-up operation I can try to resolve this.
    Many thanks

    Hi, Ian-
Definitely try using the CS3 Cleanup Script to remove
    conflicting libraries/files/extensions/etc before another clean
install from the DVD. You can download the right version for your
    platform (Mac?) here:
    CS3
    Cleanup Scripts
Don't forget to restart after running the scripts- often
components can remain referenced in memory after removal. Hope this
    helps out!
    best- Scott
