  • New Blog entry screen not rendering properly in IE9 on Windows 7

    I have set up a Blog site in Sharepoint 2013 and all seemed to be working OK, I am running Windows 8 with IE10.  When the blog site was accessed from a Windows 7 pc using IE9, all initially looked OK, however when I clicked on the link to add a new
    blog post, the page looked like this:
    I have tried this on both a workstation and via remote desktop, everytime it is accessed using IE9, this issue pops up.  All other parts of the SharePoint 2013 site so far seem OK.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
    Try to set browser compatibility mode to IE9. You can access browser compatibility mode setting in Developer Tools menu.

  • Can I use the new Bing Maps control released in Feb 2015 in my windows store app?

    Can I use the new Bing Maps control released in Feb 2015 in my windows store app?  If not, will there be a release of the store app version that has all or most of the updates that are in the new map control for WPF/Silverlight?

    The FEB 2015 release was for the WPF map control which is for desktop only. There is an existing Bing Maps SDK for Windows Store apps which has a lot more functionality than the WPF map control already. You can find this SDK here:
    https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/224eb93a-ebc4-46ba-9be7-90ee777ad9e1
    You can find documentation this SDK here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846481.aspx
    Also, I have written a free ebook on this SDK here:
    https://rbrundritt.wordpress.com/my-book/
    You can also find lots of code samples here:
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/site/search?f%5B0%5D.Type=Topic&f%5B0%5D.Value=Bing%20Maps&f%5B1%5D.Type=Platform&f%5B1%5D.Value=Windows%20RT&f%5B1%5D.Text=Windows%20Store%20apps
    You can also find a bunch of blog posts on this control on the Bing Maps blog. Here is a filtered list of blogs for Windows Store Apps:

  • My latest app - European Space Agency News (featuring Bing Translate) is now in he Windows Store

    My latest Space News App.. European Space Agency News now in the Windows Store
    http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/european-space-agency-news/092f5794-8705-49bc-b27e-17ad5fd754b2
    The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe's gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe's space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.
    European Space Agency News features nine topical news and image galleries from the ESA and 19 "news from member countries" galleries. Since the news from member countries was presented in the language of that country, I used an in app translate
    function so that news in each gallery can be read in multiple languages (languages supported by Bing Translator).

    thanks, yes, am using a free key. I can't afford to pay for keys.. The syntax
    for the Title works great. Thanks.
    I tried the following for the description, the syntax doesn't throw any errors,
    but the content is still blank. The feed is from
    http://www.esa.int/rssfeed/TopNews
    If (IsEmpty(TopNews), "Loading...", If(Dropdown1_24!Selected!Value = "en",
    BingTranslator!Translate(Mid(ThisItem!description!'$text',Find("<p>",ThisItem!description!'$text')+3,Find("</p>",ThisItem!description!'$text',Find("<p>",ThisItem!description!'$text'))-(Find("<p>",ThisItem!description!'$text')+3)),
    Dropdown1_24!Selected!Value)))
     Can you tell me what I've done wrong?

    While putting CSS into the body tag seems to work without issue I would prefer to put it into the head in its proper place.
    I am using this Javascript to do that:
    var ele = document.createElement("style");
    ele.type = "text/css";
    ele.innerHTML = "CSS CODE"; // Replace with CSS code.
    document.head.appendChild(ele);
    It works in all but IE8 and below (go figure). For IE8 I just left it in the body using IE conditional comments.
    Now if only we could come up with a bit of sorcery for the meta tags!

    But every single bit of html and css and javascript rendered by our sites ought to be available to edit as we see fit, including what gets put out by the modules.
    I could not agree more. While I can see restricting this to some level there is much more I wish we could have access to and edit.
    Thanks for the Wizardly advice. =>
