Just get the spinning ball all the time in FCP

When I use Final Cut Pro (newest update) I get the spinning ball all the time when I do ordinary things like dobbleclicking a videoclip (DVCpro HD) or a sequence.
If I try to force quit FCP it seems like it quits, the report problem to Apple screen appears, but I have to force shutdown the whole computer, because even after I have force quit FCP, it still appears like it is running in the dock, and I am not able to start it again before I have restartet the computer.
I had this problem earlier, so yesterday I formated and reinstalled the whole system, but the problem continues. Its quite frustrating that I cant use Final Cut Pro on my new MacBook pro, 2,4GHZ, 4GB ram.

When I open  aperture it opens, after a minute I get a spinning ball and the program freezes.

Try holding down the Option and Command keys while opening Aperture. Click Rebuild Database. Dumping preferences couldn't hurt.

If you tried resetting the ipod and it still keeps having the same issue you described, try setting the ipod to disk mode.
Here is an article from the apple support website on setting the ipod to disk mode.

If you can get the ipod into disk mode, connect it to the computer and rrestore the ipod using itunes.
if the ipod will not go into disk mode, you can return the ipod or set the ipod up for service via the apple ipod service depot.

  • Motion is so slow - spinning ball all the time!

I took a class in Motion recently and they used iMacs at every station.  I never got a spinning ball.  I've got a 12 Core with 16GB of RAM and I can't scroll a window without getting a spinning ball.  Every tiny adjustment takes forever!  Another thing, when I select an effect or track, sometimes the HUD doesn't update until I click around a bit.  Just now it's started holding a single frame of video regardless where I put the scrub bar on the timeline.  The motion tracked box moves when I scrub but the picture beneath is a freeze frame.  Wait, I take that back, it seems to be playing at 1 frame per minute.  This is not a complicated composite either.  One shot with a motion tracked TIFF file on top.
I've restarted, checked permisisons, trashed preferences.  Nothing helps.
I'm editing HDV.  I'm using internal drives for all media and applications (different internal drives).  All my software is up to date.  Is there anything I should check?  Any settings?  Any likely culprits?
    TIA,
    Pete

To Michael's checklist I'd add this: are you using the download version of Motion? If you are, it's possible there may be some sort of conflict with FCS. If you're still getting beachballs, consider reinstalling Motion…using Apple's "best installation practices".
I too don't like to work in HDV, but on the occasions I have, I've not encountered anywhere near the difficulties you describe.

  • Spinning ball all the time? new final cut?

    Hi there,
After spend 300 dollars in the brand new final cut X, i notice that i also have a free spinning colourfull beachball?! yes in the previous version i never add so many hang ups and so time waiting for some operations, i have, as u can say the best comfiguration tha a imac can have until a year ago, 16 g of ram and a i7 processor, well the best on a imac.
Now and after a expatation i notice that its far for the desire result and i need help to try to resulve this bugs or not.
Hope to have any news, from someone and especially an update to fix from Apple

I'm running it on a 15" MacBook Pro and I get constant beach balls, they seem to get more frequent the longer I have the app open, and ultimately I have to force close and restart my computer because the whole system bogs down.  Very aggravating. I have a Core 2 Duo and only 4 GB RAM, so I understand it would run slow, but after about an hour of editing, sometimes less, it becomes unusable.

  • I installed OS X 9.0 and I get the beach ball all the time.Any fix for this? problem?

I installed the new operating system OS X 9.0 and my performance degenerated. Spenning beachball, freezing up, slow for everything. Any fix for this problem?
    I have a Mack Book late 2009

2gb is the stated bare minimum to run the OS, anything you try to run after that is going to cause exactly what you're complaining about. Your MacBook can use up to 8gb and I believe you'd be wise to upgrade.

Crucial is an excellent source http://www.crucial.com
    As is OWC http://eshop.macsales.com
I would avoid the bargain basement brands and be sure to get exactly the right ram or you'll have problems.

  • When I try to print from Illustrator CS3 the program unexpectedly quits. I don't get anything happening other than the spinning ball and the quit message.

Is this because the application is so outdated?

Thanks for your help Monika. Yes, the printer is is supported by the system. The printer is about 2 months old and the driver were installed then. I called Canon support and they said it sounded like a problem with Illustrator. I can print the same file by saving it as a pdf and printing from Acrobat Pro, so it seems to be a problem with Illustrator. If I try to print the pdf from Illustrator it will quit.

  • The spinning ball of death

Looking for help. I run a recording studio with my G5. Last week, after a hard drive crash, the computer has started to interrupt whatever task I have it doing with the spinning ball. The ball spins for 45 seconds to a minute, then the assigned task continues. It does it in all programs, on the desktop, during copy... seemingly at random. Worst is when I'm loading in video or recording a live take. Right in the middle, it just stops... the ball spins for awhile, then it goes back. Meanwhile 4000 frames of video passed by without being recorded. This is costing me hundreds of $ per day.
    Help!
I've repaired permissions, zapped the Pram, replaced quicktime... (hints from other Mac afficianados) to no avail.
One other clue. For the first time ever, I keep getting error messages from inside ProTools saying the hard drives are too slow or too fragmented, but neither is true. It worked flawlessly for the last year-and-a-half until last week. Anybody?

Last week, after a hard drive crash, the computer has started
to interrupt whatever task I have it doing with the spinning ball.
What type of crash - was it a kernel panic?
Regardless, did you or have you checked the hard drive for any directory errors with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from your (assuming Tiger) install disc?
If not, check Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/inctructions in the order provided.

Do you have Parallels installed by any chance?  There is a known problem that causes symptoms similar to this.  You do not need to actually be running Parallels at the time and nothing in ActivityMonitor would point to Parallels.  An update corrects the problem:

  • I have owned my MacBook Pro for several months.  Initially, I did not have any problems.  Now I have a problem with Yahoo Mail.  I can open my account, but when I try to get at my mail, 2 out of 3 times I get the spinning ball that never stops.  Now what?

I have owned my MacBook Pro for several months without having any problems with it. Recently I am having trouble with my Yahoo Mail.  I can open it fine, but 2 out of 3 times when I try to actually open a message, the spinning ball comes on the screen and does not stop. Sometimes, I can log out or force quit and come back in to my account and use it.  Other times, I run into the same problem.  Any suggestions?

No, your Yahoo account is not in iCloud (which only handles iCloud mail), it is in Yahoo, and the Yahoo mail account is on your iPad.
But the MacBook Pro will have none of it! I write this question now as I fear that I will be totally demented very soon and unable to formulate my thoughts clearly!
Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.
By the way, I also find the "password" issue problematical. It seems Apple want my Apple password rather than my eMail password. All very confusing.
That would depend on what you are trying to do.

  • I get the spinning ball often, even in the middle of typing this.

I have Firefox 3.6.17, and for the last few months I have been getting the spinning ball (waiting) for almost everything I do. Even typing this I have gotten it twice. I have cleared the cache and history and am at my wit's end. I can keep typing when the ball appears and the words will appear all at once. It spins for about 5 seconds, then I get what I clicked on. Make that four times on this note.

If you are using Safari, try emptying the cache. Press Command + Option + E then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then remove all the cookies for the sites where you see the spinning ball.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari and try one of those sites again.

  • I am getting the spinning ball and a slowdown on my g5 with tiger. On top of that I have had three external acomdata harddrives fail in the last 24 hours. They will not even spin up after a single connection to the computer. Two others work fine

I am getting a spinning ball on my G5 with tiger and a slow down and then it seems to return to normal operation. I also have had three acomdata external harddrives fail after sometimes a single startup within the last day. They will not even spinup. Two other externals work just fine.

At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
    Any change?
See how fast Pageouts build up again.

  • Why do I get the spinning ball on certain websites?

I wondering if anyone else has this problem.  I get the spinning wheel, especially when I'm on certain websites.  It can last for up to 10 minutes or much longer, but that's about as long as I can take.   I usually have to use the "esc" button or power off to resolve the problem.  Does this mean my computer is just getting old?  I've had it for about four years.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
