I purchased a Macbook Air on 01st October and from day 3 every time I close the cover and reopen it later the mouse pointer is frozen
I updated the operating system today but no change.
Any one else having this annoying problem. Seems like a software glitch to me.

    Hello Bdev15,
I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too.  I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network.  For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network.  Follow the steps in the section titled "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch > Music" in the article below to download the songs:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you are still not able to download the songs, you can report an issue with these purchases using the steps in this article:

  • New MacBook Air - Battery "show time" won't appear

I have a new macbook air with lion.  It won't allow me to show the "time remaining" in the battery on the menu bar... it only shows if i click the battery icon instead of always being present.  In my old macbook air with lion (late 2010 model) it always showed the time remaining on the top menu bar without clicking anything.
anyone else have this issue or know of a fix.  Apple... I'm hoping this is fixed in Mountain Lion!  thx.

    I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air running Lion 10.7.4.
I can see the remaining time:

  • My ipods volume wouldnt go down and every time i tried to turn it down it went back up to full volume, does anyone know what the problem is?

this morning i turned my music on and the volume wouldn't go down, and every time i tried to turn it down it just kept going back up. If i were to hold the volume slide down while playing the music it would make a sort of chopping sound in the music. I finally restarted it and it fixed it but i was wondering what the problem was.

Did you already try to reset the ipod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, restore "as new device" without using the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt files.

  • I just got my first macbook air, and I have some questions?

I am trying to understand the battery cycles and the best way to charge and whatnot. I keep finding information that is different everywhere and I am not sure what the best way is.
-When using my macbook, should I leave it plugged in even at 100%? Or should I unplug it sometimes and leave it plugged in sometimes?
-Should I let the charge run all the way down or is there a good percentage to plug it in at?
-Should I shut it off or leave it in sleep mode when I am not using it for a few hours or overnight?
Also any general user tips to get used to my macbook and learn the tricks would be helpful! I did read the manual it came with by the way. I just want to take the best possible care of it because it was definitely an investment.

Proper understanding of a battery charge cycle
A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, whether that is at once, or over several shorter battery discharges and recharges.
    Two examples for clarification:
As a first example, where one fully charged battery is discharged down to 10%, then fully recharged, then using 10% of that full charge, this counts as 1 cycle since the total of both discharges is 100% of a full charge of use.
In the second example, where one fully charged battery is discharged down to 40%, then fully recharged, then using 40% of that full charge, this also counts as 1 cycle since the total of both discharges is 100% of a full charge of use.
While both examples are that of a single charge cycle, the first example is more aggressive against the lithium battery chemistry than is the second example. In short, collective overall gentle shallow or mid-range draining of your lithium battery is a better use condition than is the first example of deep-draining of the battery.  While both are quantitatively identical as a single charging cycle, they are wholly different qualitatively on the battery chemistry, which is directly related to its ultimate longevity and health.
In short, it is the near and mid-term life of the battery as relates to its proper care (or lack thereof) that is to be looked after.
Priorities in order of decreasing importance for battery care are:
    1. Avoiding deep discharges of the battery.
    2. Avoiding having your battery constantly on charge or on charge and in sleep mode.
    3. When playing graphics intense games, use your notebook plugged in when possible.
    4. Reduction of battery cycles by plugging into power when on the go, or when accessible.
A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 40% remaining of a 100% charge has a better battery condition state than, say, another person who has 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 10-15% remaining on a 100% charge. DoD (depth of discharge) is vitally important on the wear and tear on your Macbook’s battery, much more so than is the counting of charge cycles. There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in specific. Frequent high depth of discharge rates (draining the battery very low) on a Lithium battery will greatly hasten the lowering of maximum battery capacity.
Understand that a charge cycle is a general parameter of use, but is not directly related to the short-term or mid-term abuse of the battery, which can rapidly hasten a shorter lifespan, regardless of what the actual cycle count on the battery indicates.
Proper considerations for near-term care of the battery is of utmost importance. Abuse of the battery is entirely avoidable, long-term eventual old age deterioration of the battery is entirely unavoidable.
Apple’s adaptive charging system mitigates much potential for accidental battery misuse or abuse; however it is still readily possible to abuse the battery and thereby affect battery health.
General consideration of your MacBook battery
Contrary to popular myths about notebook batteries, there is protection circuitry in your Macbook and therefore you cannot ‘overcharge’ your notebook when plugged in and already fully charged.
However if you do not plan on using your notebook for several hours, turn it off (plugged in or otherwise), since you do not want your Macbook ‘both always plugged in and in sleep mode’.
Do not perform “battery calibration” on your current Macbook. There is no calibration of current Apple portable Macbooks with built-in batteries.
A lot of battery experts call the use of Lithium-Ion cells the "80% Rule", meaning use 80% of the full charge or so, then recharge them for longer overall life. The main quantified damage done in the use of Lithium Ion batteries are instances where the internal notebook battery is “often drained very low”, this is bad general use of your notebook battery.
All batteries in any device are a consumable meant to be replaced eventually after much time, even under perfect use conditions.
If the massive amount of data that exists on lithium batteries were to be condensed into a simplex, helpful, and memorable bit of information it would be:
    1. While realistically a bit impractical during normal everyday use, a lithium battery's longevity and its chemistry's health is most happy swinging back and forth between 20% and 85% charge roughly.
    2. Do not purposefully drain your battery very low (10% and less), and do not keep them charged often or always high (100%).
    3. Lithium batteries do not like the following:
A: Deep discharges, as meaning roughly 10% or less. Avoid this in all instances if you can. This is hard on your battery.
B: Rapid discharges as referring to energy intensive gaming on battery on a frequent basis (in which case while gaming, if possible, do same on power rather than battery).
C: Constant inflation, as meaning always or most often on charge, and certainly not both in sleep mode and on charge always or often.
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
"Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."
Careful with your charger and its cable
Do not make any hard bends or folds in your charging cable, or wind it tightly, always make either circles or loose loops when winding your cord up for storage. Also do not, as many people have seen, unroll your charger block from the magsafe end by letting the charger drop and unroll itself like a yo-yo, this is both hard on the charger and its connection points at both ends.

HI. I've got an issue with Pages running on Mavericks. Everytime I open it up it just hangs right there and I can't do anything with it. I've deleted the app and installed it back again but the problem sitll persists. Any help please?

Thank you so much for helping,
But i really wonder how you did that. did you always switch between design view and preview view, then change the key position for 2px then switch back, to align the four letters? because i imagine that can get really frustrating, if you have a logo consisting of 58 parts instead of 4!:)
Anyway thank you very much for your time and effort!!!!

  • New Macbook Air transferred by Time Machine Backup USB--fan/temps

    Hello,
I just got the last version of the macbook air, with 120HDD and 1.86 cpu. I thought that I would have to try to transfer everything from my Imac 27" through wifi transfer but when I started up the macbook air it asked if I had a time machine backup I would like to use through USB (which I have used many times before to basically transfer all my data, applications, and settings.) It took a while and the macbook air's fans kicked in during the transfer, which is from the Imac with snow leopard. total transfer was around 45gb. I thought this type of transfer wasn't possible. I also did a long software update after the transfer.
MY QUESTION: could any of this account for the macbook air running hot now, fan at about 6200rpm. I am in Paris and it is very hot here now, so maybe this accounts for it. I'll see in the morning. I am just wondering if the machine will run hot now because perhaps because of the type of transfer I executed, which might have included programs or apps not directly related to the macbook air itself. Again, we are in a heat wave here so perhaps this contributes to it. Don't these machines run rather quietly?
any advice would be appreciated. I could always start again, do a reinstall, etc. but except for the fans running, I have everything I need on the machine and would really prefer not buying the external dvd ir starting over again.
    Thanks

I learned that the macbook air shipped with Leopard, but after migrating everything over from my Imac 27" with Snow Leopard, my system now on the Macbook Air is exactly what I have on the Imac. After the initial backup from Time Machine I did a software update, which brought the system up to 10.6.4. I suppose on some level part of one system did transfer over to the Macbook Air, or at least it updated the system that was shipped on the Air. I did call Apple and was told that if there were issues during the Time Machine backup the system would have alerted or panics would have occurred. The guy wasn't 100% sure, but felt that the backup went normally.
The Air seems to work fine, but the fans kick up from the base of 2500rpm when I watch a video or download video files for a few minutes as an experiment. I don't want to do a complete re-install with the original DVD discs, with all of the trouble that implies, if the machine is going to run rather hot with fans increasing in any case. I suppose that's why I am looking for confirmation one way or another.
It was suggested that I log out and open another account empty of data and see if that makes a difference.
If the machine will run cooler with a re-install, no problem. But it sounds as if all of that could be for naught.
Any other comments would be appreciated.

  • After installing Yosemite, my macbook air crashes every time it wakes from 'longish' sleep

I installed Yosemite.  All seemed to be fine.  But if my MacBook Air (mid 2012) goes to sleep due to inactivity (or if I close the lid), when I then wake it, it restarts and then gives me an error message saying that something went wrong and it had to be restarted.  If I choose 'Sleep' from the menu and then immediately wake it again, or close the lid and then open it within a few seconds, it's fine.  So perhaps it's a longer term sleep/wake period that is the problem?  Has anyone else experienced this?

Further troubleshooting for my situation confirm that there is a conflict between having external three conductor 1/8" audio jack plug into my MBA at the same time when having thunderbolt HDMI cable plugged into external HP display going to sleep is fine however on wake there's a conflict between the audio assignment of these two devices causing an OS X crash where keyboard entry from the MacBook Air is no longer feasible to log into the system forcing a hard powerdown reset.
Interesting tests prove if you plug-in Apple earbuds with the four conductor 1/8"'audio plug into the MBA audio port there is no problem as OS X likely sees these earbuds as a smart device versus a standard three conductor audio cable plug to external speakers or not. Several different Three conductor audio jacks/cables were tested and the crash upon sleep wake continued.
After three conductor audio jack is plugged in but the HDMI is removed from thunderbolt then you wake the computer there is no conflict and it functions as intended No crash full functionality of all keyboards and mouse and put work correctly.
Likewise conversely if you unplug the three conductor audio jack and just leave the thunderbolt HDMI external display plugged in upon wake everything functions as intended so it's not specifically related to external display or audio cable but when both are connected that the conflict crashes the system Upon sleep wake.
Be reminded this configuration and scenario work perfectly fine prior to Yosemite OSX 10.10 update.
Even went to the sound audio settings and forced audio output two headphone audio and crash and still consistent one HDMI is connected to thunderbolt port waking from sleep.
Likely some trimming issues going on with the new Yosemite to do with audio assignment and potentially AirPlay. AiPlay was not being utilized however I have to Apple TVs that are in the background with AirPlay showing and the audio configuration settings but they were not being utilized at the time of these crashes.
This issue has no variance regarding MBA screen is open or closed when putting to sleep and wake initiated by typing keyboard key.

  • Why does my (fully charged) macbook air crash every time I disconnect the charger?

I have an almost brand new (within 6 months) macbook air. I keep it up to date. About a week ago this issue started: everytime I unplug my charger (which is green as the laptop is at 100% power) it crashes. I just did the SMC trick, but it has had no effect. Thoughts?

    1. Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo
