Once the installation is complete for OS X 10.6 the Setup Assistant should launch. It should allow you to import all your user data from the cloned backup.

Those options sound like those for OS X 10.5. Is that what you plan to install? For OS X 10.6 you have two options: (a) "automatic upgrade" and (b) invoke a manual erase operation right after the installation starts, followed by a clean install.

  • How can I recover my files from a My Book Essential 3TB external hard drive?

The hard drive was no longer showing up on the desktop or Disk Utility even after changing cables and power supplies. So I tried another remedy and took out the hard drive of the Western Digital case and put it in a Rosewill external case. Still no luck. The only thing that shows up on the Disk Utility is what I assume is probably the external case itself but it doesn't detect the hard drive. Are the files recoverable? Will a program like DiskWarrior work? I am a little irked by the price especially if it will not work for my situation. Please help! Thank you!

This what my IT replied with:
That teh MacBook cannot connect with RWW because it requires Active-X to connect.  That MAc browsers (Safari) do not use Active-X but only Windows (IE) uses Active-X control.
It would seem to me that there must be a way around this. Any help?

  • I am currently ruDo I have to purchase the Mac box set to upgrade or can I just upgrade the OS?

I am currently running Mac OS X V. 10.4.11. I use my mac for one purpose and one software only. Do I have to purchase the Mac box set with iIife and everything to upgrade or can I upgrade to Snow Leopard?
Reading the spec on Snow leopard it says if I have OSX v.10.4 to purchase the mac box set. I dont use any of that bundled software. I just simply want to upgrade my OS.
I know I can buy just the OS but I want to make sure it is complatible before I do so.
    Thanks in advance

You can upgrade from10.4 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under10.6
You won't need the box set unless you want the latest iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps you can get them from the App Store, which you get added to the OS and the dock when you’ve upgraded to at least 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote and Numbers for $20 each.

  • Runs Tiger and has Mac Box Set. Confused?

    Hi all!
I've have just got a copy of Mac Box Set as I want Snow Leopard and the new iLife and all that jazz! I have a MacBook that is running Tiger 10.4.11 at the minute. I'm not the most technical person in the world so can I just put the Snow Leopard DVD in and just install it? I wasn't too sure!
Any help or advice would be great.
    Cheers
    Righini

I assume you mean install SL without updating iLife and iWork? If so, then Yes.
I'm not sure what versions of iLife and iWork still function under Snow Leopard, so you may or may not run into a problem there.
[This site|http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/start] has compatibility info for iLife apps. They are listed under Apple, not iXXX.

  • I don't have a good good disc for the mac box set can i get it with it my serial no.

I don't have a good good disc for the mac box set can i get it with it my box number?

If this is a new box you just bought ad the disk is bad, Apple will replace it for you.  OTOH, if you have lost the disk or it has become damaged over time, that is your responsibility, and though I don't speak for Apple, I'd be very surprised if you had any option other than buying another copy.

  • Mac Box Set necessary to upgrade Tiger?

I have a MacBook Pro running on Tiger 10.4.11. My system won't allow basic updates (Safari, iTunes, Firefox, etc) until I
upgrade the system. I wasn't aware of this before. Now I'm behind 3 upgrades, making things tougher(?) I guess the route
to go is to buy the Mac Box Set(?) But Apple doesn't sell it anymore so if I buy it from Amazon, etc. I am assuming I need a
New, unused version - otherwise my computer will see it being "licensed" to another computer? Also, before I do that I
would like to give my computer a fresh start. Once I backup files and docs I'm wondering if it would help to Reinstall the
Tiger disc to restore it to original settings? Would that clean off any unknown/unwanted apps and such and create a better
base before installing the upgrade? Does that make sense? And third, it sounds too good to be true, to install a disc and
Voila! the system is upgraded. Is it that simple or what issues could there be? Thanks for any help!
P.S. My system meets the upgrade requirements and has plenty of space.

It looks like Snow Leopard is still available at least in the Apple online store.  You can get the box set and do the upgrade from that.  What you should do is a complete backup to an external drive, using, say, SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner, or even the Restore option in Disk Utility (see Disk Utility help for details) to create a clone of your HD.
Then just do the upgrade from the install disks, then sort out any problems as they occur, knowing that you have the cloned backup that can get you back to ground zero if you need it.

  • I have os 10.4. Why do I need the mac box set to upgrade to snow leopard?

I have os 10.4. Why do I need the mac box set to upgrade to snow leopard? What happens if I upgrade with just a 10.6 upgrade?

    ds store wrote:
No iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garageband, but I can pinch those off the 10.4 installer disk using Pacifist.
You can usually get those from the original grey installer discs that came with your Mac without bothering with Pacifist. Look for an 'installed bundled software' or similarly named item on one of those discs, generally the #1 disc. Run that & the original versions of those apps that were bundled with your Mac will be installed. Software Update will let you know if there is an update you can download for them (but of course that won't include an upgrade to a more recent major version, which you would have to buy separately).

  • Can't upgrade to snow leopard from tiger with mac box set

i have a macbook that runs 10.4.11. and this happened like last yr i think. i was going to upgrade it to snow leopard, and so i went to the store and bought the mac box set, the one costs $196. and here comes the trouble, no matter what i did, it couldn't be properly upgraded. like when it shows the window that says it is upgrading, it just tell you some errors occurred and then it couldn't proceed. so ever since i just continued using 10.4.11.
now i kind want to upgrade it again but im afraid that sth wrong is gonna happen again. so what should i do?? (b4 i upgraded, i erased everything in my mac, but still...)
the funny thing is, once i actually brought my macbook into the store and tried to upgrade in front f the technician, and it failed. later on they told me that i need to increase its memory from 1GB to 2GB, and i did so. but still........T.T

Hi, do you remember any of the exact wording of the errors?
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Report any errors it has.
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Any word yet if Apple will be making a Mac Box Set for Lion?

It seems like they would since they no longer stock the Mac Box Set for Snow Leopard. I need the box set in order to reset my iMac to factory settings and no longer have the original discs. I tried getting replacements through Apple and they said I would have to purchase all the software separatly. I wish Apple would come out with the Lion box set already. I'm trying to avoid purchasing the Snow Leopard, iLife and etc, etc and then a week later a Lion Box Set comes out. I wonder if Lion discs will come out once they reveal the iPhone 5? Thanks!

The short of it is that, until Apple officially announces something, we don't know.
Keep in mind, though- Apple is moving away from physical media, especially disc-based.  Lion is only available by download or USB drive.
We don't know if Apple will ever release a Lion "Box set" with iLife, or by what media/method.  We just don't know.

  • ISO Mac Box Set Family Pack - iWork reg. number to install on 2nd MacBook

I've been using iWork on my MacBook pro for about a year now, and never got around to installing it (DVD) on our 2nd laptop, a MacBook.
I purchased the Mac Box Set - Family Pack for this very need and it's now asking for an iWork registration # when I try to run Keynote.
How do I retrieve the iWork registration number? I don't see iWork registration #'s on any of the package contents.

Hi. A couple of corrections. Mr. Mossberg is at the Wall Street Journal. He in fact, let the cat out of the bag that you can indeed upgrade directly from Tiger. see here:
    http://theappleblog.com/2009/08/27/tip-from-mossberg-snow-leopard-upgrade-good-f or-all/
That being said, I have not tried this myself, so I cannot say with certainty that it will work.
A good idea would be to try to upgrade to an external FW drive, so you can test first. Second, remember that you will need to update many apps that are Tiger apps to work with SL.
    Good luck

  • Mac Box Set

Hallo I'm Italian. My American uncle sent me a Mac Box Set (OS X 10.6 + ILife09 + IWork09) bought in USA to update my MacBook (OS X 10.4.11). Do you know if it runs in Italian? thanks

yes, it does. just put in the DVD, reboot and hold "c" at the chime. this will boot you directly into the install DVD and you'll get a language selection screen where you can choose italian.

  • Can I Install Snow Leopard over Tiger, without the Mac Box Set?

I've just spoken to an Apple advisor in Canada and he told me that I could buy the Snow Leopard CD and install it on my MacBook that has Tiger, and I wouldn't need to buy the Mac Box Set.  He said that since the Mac Box Set isn't available anymore Apple put the full software on the CD instead of just the upgrade.
However I get a contradictory information on the Apple website.
    What is true?

  • How can I upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard wihout violating EULA while Mac Box Set is no longer available?

I use my original Tiger bought with MacBook Pro. But now so many applications do not support Tiger, so I decided to upgrade to SL.
But required by Apple way to do this with Mac Box Set seems to be impossible. Mac Box Set is no longer available from Apple.
Is upgrading using Snow Leopard disc, which is still in Apple Store, ok?
I will be gratefull for help.

The Mac Box Set includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife ’09 and iWork ’09. If you just use the SL installer, you don't get the additional apps.
