Just got my 3gs yesterday, no service?

My 16gb 3gs was working when I left the store yesterday (I live in Canada, I'm with Bell) and all of a sudden my phone showed no service. I turned it off/on, that didn't work. I took it to the store where I purchased it, and they put 2 different sim cards in it and it still didn't work. Does anyone know if this is an apple problem or a service provider problem? Thanks.

Well, if it were a service provider problem and you were at the service provider, they would have handled it. Since you say they put two different SIM cards in it and it still didn't work, that would lead me to believe it was a phone hardware issue. What did they tell you? Did they instruct you to contact Apple about warranty work, or do they handle that. I'm not from Canada, so I could't answer how they do it. Do you have an Apple store that can handle the warranty, and if so I would make an appointment with them to get it taken care of.

    Restore as new... if the problem still continues then there is a hardware issue.
    If it stops after a restore as new, then the issue is with the backup the device is currently setup with.

    Adobe does not require a password to download the Flash installer. Generally speaking passwords are not required to download software, unless you must register with the website so as to log in. In that case you should never use the same name and password you use to administer your Mac.

    Hi, I just got the 3GS. It's my first ever iPhone. Love it too.
    My friend told me to use iTunes to get all my photos from my old phone to my iPhone.
    Do I HAVE to keep the pictures in Itunes in order to keep them on the phone?
    Because I have some "pics" of my girlfriend and I'm not the only user on this computer.

    iTunes doesn't store photos, but iTunes handles the transfer of selected photos stored on your computer's hard drive to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process.
    This is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
    If you select a folder of photos to be transferred to your iPhone and remove the selected folder or any photos within the folder from your computer's hard drive, the photos will be deleted from your iPhone with the next sync.

    I just got my iPhone 4 yesterday after having a Blackberry for 3 years.  Everytime I try to download any type of application it keeps displaying "Your Apple ID has been disabled."  Before activating my iPhone I downloaded the most recent iTunes.  I even went back today I reset my password after some minor research made the suggestion.  I sent an e-mail off to to Apple last night after their Apple tech was no help at all.  He is the one that suggested the e-mail and that he could not help me.  I am really frustrated at this point.  I am hoping that someone will be able to help me out.  I was extremely excited about getting my new iPhone 4 and now I am just over it!  Help please!!!

    I just sent my 2Gb Nano into Apple care and got it serviced. I just got it back and got a completely new Nano. My problem is that this one has a white screen and I havent dropped in or done anything, except plug it into my computer and install it on my computer.     From what I was told by one of the forum Mods a while back, Apple engineers have determined that this is caused by not allowing the firmware update to finish the installation before disconnecting the iPod. Try these steps.
    Reset the iPod.
    If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.
    How to put the iPod into disk mode.
    Now connect the iPod to the computer. This step may immediately take you to the iPod's normal display screen. Reset the iPod to exit disk mode.
    If you still have the white screen, then you should use the updater to restore the iPod.
    Wait until the restore has finished before disconnecting the iPod. If you're unsure, wait at least 20 minutes (it's probably overkill but best to be sure). In my experience, the software updater for version 1.1.1 (and later) takes longer to complete the process than previous updaters.
    That should cure the issue.
    If however it doesn't, and your iPod is still non responsive (doesn't reset, nothing on the screen or button presses don't work), then it will have to be sent away for service.

    I was forced to send my iPod in to be serviced, due to the Folder/Exclamation Point Error.
    I just got it back today. Now what? How can I make this iPod, which is not my old one, but a completely new iPOd, work with my iTunes?
    All I really want are the songs I have on my computer to be loaded on to my iPod. Anyone know what I need to do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Sam.
    Assuming you have a good connection you simply download and run the latest firmware updater from this site. Retore the iPod (which will format it for your PC) and then completely resync it with iTunes and you're good to go.

  • Just got flobbed off by customer service

    ok, ranting - but kinda po'd with customer sevrice right now.
    For the past 3 days cell coverage has been dire too poor (at best) and I have forgotten just how many times my wife and I have reset our phones (battery pull) to try and get coverage. 
    Normally - we both have full sevrice (voice and data)
    We both have a Moto Droid (the original one).
    I called customer service who advised that they could not see any cell outages and that I need to do a hard reset and a PRL update (*288 send)
    After 3 attempts I finally managed to get an 'Update successful from the automated service'  which just happend to be while I was on hold waiting for tech support.
    The customer service agent then came back to me, after I told her that I got a successful response back to which she replied that I needed to take my phone into a verizon store to be re-flashed.
    Alarm bells started ringing so I asked what flash update had both my I wife and I had missed and she replied Nov 28.
    er, no - we both have 2.2.1 which is the last official Verizon FW push.
    Both my wife and I's phones swap between no cell coverage and 1 bar (intermitent 3G). 
    oh, I also it is not the phones - my wife and I popped out to the local post office (which is about a mile away) I got a signal then.
    so, I guess I will have to call customer service again - I need this phone for work.
    I just hate been flobbed off is all.

    Update
    Called customer service back who transferred me to tech support.  Cell outage was reported last night and engineers have already be deployed.  No target fix time but they are working on it.

    That would be the prorated charges. That would happed. Most customes do not understand nor ask about them when they go over their minutes they just panic and want their minutes up to a high level. 
    Techincally you are responsible for the prorated charge since its on the websites it tells you about proration. (It explains it normally on the billing options section when you selection when you want the changes to take place when it talks about the billing will be prorated).
    I doubt you can argue you didn't know about the proration since its actually listed in ( ) next to one of the options for making it take affect the same day.   Ex. Same Day (Prorated)   Not the exact wording but did not feel like logging in and going through the entire steps.
    Best way to fight this if you feel tricked is head back to that page scan it look for where you see if no information about it is listed take a screen shot and email it to VZW as proof. This way your covered about the proration. Talk to a CS rep on the phone while you do it.

    I have to say im a windows guy. For the most part of 15 years I have made my living supporting windows operating systems. I make a very good living at it and I owe Microsoft for providing me with that. I have worked on a few macs in my career but I have never owned anything apple. It just didnt apply to what I did for a living and I had no real need for one. My mp3 player is not an ipod but a dell dj. So I dont even own an ipod.
    However I am a gadget freak and I love new toys. I got the iphone on a whim 2 days ago and have enjoyed it tremendously. There are a few things Im sure they will improve but overall its a great little toy. I have a bunch of jealous co-workers and my wife is even a little envious.
    Whats even worse is my latest curiousity about macs has not increased. I am even thinking of getting an imac when the new OS is released.
    I got to give apple credit this thing is not only very sharp looking but much smaller than I imagined.
    I have read alot of bad things about AT&T but I have had really good service with them. I have full bars at work, home and on my recent vacations. I pay my bill online and all seems to be good with customer service. I hope that stays the same during my new 2 year commitment.
    SO.. any advice on a new mac out there for a new apple fan?
    My friends are going to kill me if I buy a Mac!

    I'm pretty happy to hear something positive too... grin I'm in a similar boat to your own, no significant troubles to date and very happy with my purchase (knowing that I was getting in at the release of a new product I expected more problems).
    My first Mac was the 17" G4 PowerBook, but I'm pretty happy with my Mac Mini too... As you can see, I pried it open and upgraded it (I cut my teeth on Windows machines and couldn't resist tampering), but I think for straight out of the box, bang-for-your-buck, I'd recommend a MacBook Pro. Probably the 15" just due to the weight. I lug my 17" around and need a good chiropractor after a cross-country flight. grin
    Head on over to your local Apple store, play with all the toys, and bring home your favorite of the bunch... It's pretty hard to go wrong with any of them.

    I am having the same issue. It says "searching". Has been there for the past hour. I tried turning off and back on and still no luck. I can't even text. Wi-Fi is working properly and so is everything else. Just can't make any calls. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

    You have to create iphone ringtones.
    There are many free ways to do this.  Google will find them.
    Click Support and the top of this page, then Manuals, then iphone user guide to find the manual, or look at your bookmarks on the iphone.

  • Just got my Ibook back from Service... How should I copy everything back?

    My Ibook's HD died so I sent it to Apple to get it fixed. Luckily I had backed up everything before I sent it in. However, I didn't have any kind of utility to back everything up nice and tidy. Instead I just copied my user folder into the external HD.
    How do I neatly return all my music, photos, and other apps back into the newly fixed Ibook????

    Hi jonomo, iTunes & iPhoto are fussy about how things are put in their respective libraries so it is better to import them from within each application. Direct each app to where the files are to import.
    If the applications that you backed up had installers, rerun them, otherwise drag them from the folder on your external HD into the applications folder on your new internal HD. (You did back up the apps too, didn't you? They wouldn't normally be in your 'home' folder.)
    Documents too, just drag & drop.

    Have you restarted your device?
    Have you reset your device?
    Have you done ANY troubleshooting on your own yet?
    Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails (or you haven't tried a dang thing yet)
    Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.
    Relaunch the App and try again.
    Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.
