Just got my new iPhone 3G home and iTunes won't recognize it

My phone was activated at the Apple Store. I was even using as soon as I got out of the store (for email and such). It won't show up in iTunes. In fact, when it's connected to my Macbook, it doesn't even show it's charging. There's nothing wrong with the USB ports - I've got my old iPod connected right now, and it's showing up just fine in iTunes. My phone gives the charging message only when it's plugged into the USB adapter into an electrical outlet. I've everything the troubleshooting document says - except for uninstalling iTunes. Both my iTunes and computer are fully updated. I checked just to make sure.
Any ideas? Phone works fine (well, haven't tried to make a phone call) - it just won't show as charging when connected to Macbook or show in iTunes.
Any ideas? This is a little disappointing.

No, iPod is not connected when iPhone is connected to computer. I plugged iPod in later to check USB ports.
ETA: This is very odd...I decided to try the cable for my 2nd gen Nano with the iPhone - and I'll be darned! The iPhone now works just fine with iTunes! Synching now...Guess I'll have to go back into the Apple Store tomorrow to get a replacement for the cord that came with my iPhone!
