Just Got New MBP and need to reinstall Software
I just got a 15inch MBP and installed Final Cut Studio 2 which I did not know was 55 gigs. I want to install it on an external HD so I want to reinstall Leopard with my disc I received when I bought my MBP from Apple. Will I still get all of my extras such as ilife with my install disc and will it restore it to factory (as I received it when I first bought it?) Thank you!
An 'erase and install' will remove EVERYTHING from your harddrive, and if you've already got Leopard installed, that's your only option.
Reintalling Leopard will NOT install iLife; to my knowledge there are no Leopard+iLife 08 install DVDs. . . just Leopard DVDS. I may be wrong, as I have an old Mac and not a new one, which may come with a software package I've never seen (but I'm getting my GF a new MBP for Christmas!!). I think you need to (and should have) a seperate iLife 08 disk with which you can reinstall iLife.
A couple of questions and some advice:
-I assume you have at least a 120gb harddrive. Why do you want to install FCP2 onto an extrnal DVD? If you plan to use that space to store media, it would be a better idea to store the media (i.e. the video footage, etc) on an external drive and keep your FCP application on your internal HD.
-Also, if you are going to run FCP on an external HD, get a FIREWIRE 800 external HD. They are quite a bit more expensive, but I had a LOT of problems just using FCP1 to edit footage stored on an external USB HD . .. I can't IMAGINE the problems you would have running FCP2 off of a USB external HD.
-Thinking about it again, where are you going to store your footage? On the same external HD as FCP? I think that will work . . .

You need to set up a separate iCloud account for each person that does not want to share their iCloud data. If you share an iCloud account with someone, any data you both sync with the shared account is merged, and you end up with each other's data on your device(s). If, for example, you owned two devices and someone else in the family also owned two devices, you would both want your own iCloud accounts, and you would each set up your personal iCloud account on the two devices you own. In other words, you want a separate iCloud account for each person to be used on the devices they own. Each iCloud account has to have a separate Apple ID. Yes, I was referring to the iTunes ID not needing to be the same as the ID used for iCloud. In order to set up an Apple ID your children will need to have a valid email address that can be verified by Apple. Apple requires this so they have a way of contacting the owner if there is a problem with the account, such as when you may need to reset the password on the account. When you set up the ID, Apple will send a verification email to this email account and you will need to click on the verificating link in the email to complete the process. If they don't currently have an email account you can just set one up with gmail or another free email hosting service. They don't have to use the account but you will need it to set up the ID. -

I just had a similar problem. Both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 in my household quit connecting to the network even though it seemed to recognize it. if you think it is recognizing your network, just not connecting, check to see if bluetooth is turned on. i had to turn bluetooth off and then manually enter the DNS number.
My solution also came after I re-started my network and reset all the settings on the ipad2. The DNS number then showed along with IP submet Mask and router. I used that dns number to enter into ipad1 after turning bluetooth off on it.
Totally unscientific fix that may have been more coincidental than correct but you might try it. BTW--no idea how bluetooth even got turned on to begin with. -

How do you change passwords in email accounts?? Have new iPhone and no record of previous passwords. Dumb I know but I'm in a real bind.....

If you don't have access to your old email account and can't use security question authentication to reset your password, you'll have to do one of the following to turn off Find My iPhone so you can chang the iCloud account on your phone:
If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You should then be able to turn off Find My iPhone with your password. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back and change your primary email address and iCloud ID back to the way it was. You will then be able to go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current ID and password to reconnect to your iCloud account.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to get them to reset the password for it so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account. You will have to prove your identity to them in order to do so. 2.) I had it freeze doing something similiar, but it hasn't happened with anything else. It depends on the video. No indication of a defecti've player. No worries

I have an MBA an iphone 4s ipod nano and just got a MBP and iPad 2....
I have way too many apps on the phone and both MBs, 1/2 of my music is gone, not gone, I'm sure I can find it. Is there any way I can go back to day one (a week ago) and use migration assistant? Air drop didn't work, it kept failing. Any help would be appreciated; I clearly don't need all these apple products. Thx in advance.
File>Transfer purchases in iTunes. This will import the apps to your iTunes library. Note that apps for iOS will NOT run on OS X.

If you Google ipod nano 6th generation manual, you can download the PDF manual. Here's a quote from page 19:
Transfer purchased content to another computer:
1 Open iTunes on the other computer and choose Store > Authorize This Computer.
2 Connect iPod nano to the newly authorized computer.
3 In iTunes, choose File > Transfer Purchases from iPod.
Songs that are not from the iTunes store can be copied to the new computer, and you just have to do File>Add to Library to get them into iTunes. And if you don't plan to continue using your old computer, you should deauthorize it because you only get 5 authorizations for iTunes store purchases, and this will cancel out the authorization on the old computer. -
Got a new MBP and old external hard drive is too full for backup
I just got a new MBP and got all my data migrated and everything. I plugged my external hard drive in to run a backup, and it apparently is too full to run a backup of the new computer. Even though all the files are the same (mostly), I guess it's not going to overwrite anything because it's a new computer. Should I just get a new backup drive and start fresh for this computer. Should I reformat my old backup drive (and if so, how?)? Advice?
You should always have two backups of all vital data in any regard. A good 1TB Toshiba USB is $65
If there is NOTHING on the external HD you cant lose, format in disk utility > erase > format MAC OSX extended journaled.
then apply a Time Machine backup to the old HD of your new computer. That will free of a great deal of space.
However you should still have a 2nd backup of data. 2 backups is 1, and 1 is none. -

I Need help, my wife and myself just got new phones. I got the iPhone 6 and my wife got the 6 Plus, we set our phones up and for some reason I am recieving all her text messages. Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library. Note that once done you cannot "share" apps under a single Apple ID. Each of you must purchase your own apps under your own Apple ID. When you decide to split up like this one of you will need to re-purchase the apps that they want to use.
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data. Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted. Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
