Just had Infinity installed, upload seems very low...

I literally just had Infinity installed and on the first boot up I was getting 23mb/7mb but now the upload has dropped to 1mb after I cleaned up the cabling (so had to turn off the hub)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2568953604.png
Is this something for me to be worried about or will it go back up during the 10 day period?

It starts making history of the line as soon as it's plugged in and connected. It will use this information to try and settle the line, after 2/3 days you will see it set a normal IP profile as it think's that is where it will be best at. It's even more vital to not reset it before 2/3 days when you normally see it settle or at least close to after a couple of months you will.
Also restarting at night is stupid as well, you should restart during the day (90%) of time. As that is when less noise is present...
I understand your point though, but it will have 2 be testing at high speeds instead of low to be effective. You can't determine in which state of testing it is in though.

  • Hi Just had infinity installed

    Hi I have just had infinity installed because of an ongoing rein issue which screwed my Talktalk asdl down to 1meg.
    After 9 BTOR visits I was informed where the problem was coming from but that no one was able to enter or contact the house that the problem was isolated to.
    This left me to the infinity option which thankfully has bypassed the problem and i am getting 37 meg(woohoo!)
    I do find it amaxing however that neither TT or BT has any rights to deal with the person who is messing up mine and others in the road and you are expected to deal with it your self.
    Looking forward to better service from BT and great speed than before

  • Just had Infinity installed - major problem with i...

    I have a Goodmans Freesat box.
    Until yesterday it was connected to ADSL (around 15mbps) via a HH2 and it worked ok apart from a bit of buffering when viewing in HD.
    After having Infinity via HH5 installed yesterday afternoon I can no longer watch iPlayer - it is very slow going through the menus, it is continually buffering & freezing, even on SD, and I keep getting a message saying that there are connection issues.
    I've swaped cables but same result.
    Nothing has changed other than Infinity + HH5.
    What's the problem?

    Hi PaddyB
    Thanks for reply. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
    I have carried out the test as per your instructions.
    Results as follows - (not sure if relevant but the figures in brackets are what I got using wifi instead of cable connection)
    Download Speed = 34.98 (53.31)
    Upload Speed = 13.59 (12.53)
    Ping Latency = 39.13 (37.13)
    I also carried out "Further Diagnostics" and a link to the screen cap is below.
    I did not continue any further than this as I feel it is beyond my capabilities.

    Just to confirm the message I get when trying to use iPlayer on my Freesat box - "a problem with the internet connection has been detected"
    Thanks for your help - hope the above information is what you wanted.
    Look forward to hearing from you again soon.

  • Just had Infinity installed

    estimated speed before order was 37.7Mbps. Engineer has just left me with a download speed of 16.5 on a wired connection, the engineer got 18 with his test equipment. He said a house 3 doors down was getting around 38 when he did theirs a few days ago and that he has tested my line which shows no problems so shouldnt be any reason it should be much different. He suggested I ring up BT and let them know and see if there was any cap on the connection.
    Obviously when I rang BT I got the usual script that it takes 10 working days (why working days if it is an automatic process!??) before the line stabilises and after 10 working days I will have what was estimated originally.
    So, is it normal to get a starting speed so slow and then get faster over the next 10 days or was the guy talking rubbish?

    Basically, the guy was talking rubbish. There is some stabalization over the first couple of days, and then continuous ongoing stabalization. The initial connection is usually at the highest possible rate at the time the connection is made, which then lowers a little over the initial stabalization, and then remains stable unless there are changes to the line such as extra noise (or even reduced noise).
    It's possible the house 3 doors down had a very different path to the cabinet, or even a different cabinet. More likely there is some other issue with your line. Do double-check your internal wiring; especially that there are now extensions from a junction bex BEFORE the master socket.
    ~~~
    The extra message about not getting extra information is quite common on a new install, as it involves querying back via various servers to the FTTC infrastructure; and the server information about your line is not always updated immediately.  I think a couple of days or so is typical, but not all sure on that one ....
    Can you do a speedtest here: BT Speedtester
     Please do the test wired (not wireless) and do not use the beta test, then post the full results with the IP profile.
    I was online earlier this week and liked the forms with submit buttons and the Adobe site directed me to upgrade to Adobe PRO XI in order to use forms so I bought five licenses. Just had it installed today and it is now asking me to sign up for forms Central in order to use this feature. What gives? The Adobe site gave me the impression that I would have this feature after purchasing the new upgrade. I would not have purchased the upgrade, let alone five of them had I know this. Am I missing something?
    Acrobat XI comes with the Fromscentral AIR application and the ability to create PDF forms authored in Formscentral. To have more than the free (1 form with 50 responses) level account you need to sign up for a Formscentral subscription.
  • I just had Uverse installed.  The iMac which was my base station is now connected via my household electric ground connection.  Another computer is now the base station.  I have connected my Time Capsule to my computer by USB cable, but can't set it up
    I just had Uverse installed.  My iMac desktop has been the base station for my wi fi, but we had to connect it via ground wire of my electrical system and use another desktop as the base station [with windows op system].  We have connected my Time Capsule to the computer via USB cable.  I believe that will require setting up the Capsule to use Ethernet, but the instructiions on the install disc only talk about using Airport.  How can I find instructions for setting up using USB cable and Ethernet?
    Thanks!
    Charles Leach
    All the manuals are listed at the head of the thread.
    The TC cannot connect to the computer by USB.. it is network device.. it only connects by ethernet or wireless.. usb is for external drive or printer.
  • Just had FiOS installed, getting disconnect
    I just had FiOS (15/5) installed this afternoon with 250 channel TV package. I went to speedtest.net and I'm seeing very good speeds and nice latency. Problem is that I logged into IRC, had ssh session oepn (using putty) and also logged into an online game (game lets you idle) and left the computer around 8pm to watch TV, when I just came back now at 10pm both my irc and game clients had timed out indicating a disruption in my net connectivity. My Steam client also showed a disconnect and later reconnect. The game log indicates disconnection happened at 21:54 which is 2 hours and 2 minutes after I had started the game client and gone idle. The FiOS tech finished installed around 5:45pm so the connection was on for around 4 hours before the disconnect. Previously I had Speakeasy DSL and never experienced these timeouts when I left my computer idle. On the machine this happened (my desktop) it has a direct wired ethernet connection  to the verizon wireless router. It issues me an IP via DHCP. I checked the DHCP lease it did not expire (and I hope it auto-renews when that happens in 24 hours? never used DHCP before). So I am wondering is this a known issue and how can it be fixed? I am really happy with the speed, but want to be able to leave clients open for long periods without getting disconnects. BTW I have ethernet from the ONT to the router so no coax at play there.
    Router is: Actiontec MI424-WR Revision C.
    Firmware Version:    4.0.16.1.56.0.10.14.4
    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). I really hope this can be resolved.
    I logged into router and advanced options to see system log and only thing I see around time of the disconnect is:
    Jun 28 21:45:33 2011 System Log WAN DHCP DHCP WAN connection IP:108.32.64.202,DNS:71.252.0.12 71.250.0.12 ,GTW:108.32.64.1,Subnet:255.255.255.0 (WAN MoCA)
    Jun 28 20:45:32 2011 System Log WAN Coax WAN Coax Link Up
    Jun 28 20:45:19 2011 System Log WAN Coax WAN Coax Link Down
    But I thought the Coax referred to the MOCA which does TV service not the ethernet I have going to the router. Is that related?
    I guess this is for the FiOS TV since he set up the router to not use MOCA (coax) for the internet connection?
    Shouldn't the disconnect be mentioned in the system log?
    The firewall to which I was referring was the one inside the ActionTec router which performs the PAT translation and port forwarding functions.
    Unless this is regularly occurring event, I'm going with the original suggestion that something just blipped (welcome to the Internet) and move on.
  • 3.3mhz iMac, just had Maverick installed and as I tried to upload Pix, the finder went into a wheel of death and since that point, have lost the ability to even type on ANY applicat would not come out of it.. did utilities and have no idea what to do next
    Have a iMac 3.3 mhz, tried to upload pix to an app and Finder went into the wheel of death and would not come out.. When it "Got Lost" I also lost the ability to even type on the machine in ANY APPLICATION. Have run utilities, made repairs and still no typing/text. On Thurs or Friday (10/24 or 10/25) Maverick was installed so this may be a problem that it created. As it happens I didn't ask for Maverick. How do I fix the "Finder" on the machine if i can't even type on it??
  • Hey just got infinity installed help
    Ok had it put in about an hour ago was hittin 40 meg easy now 1 hour later am down to 24 meg is it just the time of night or what
    Hi
    It has a week or two training period.... best not turn the HomeHub off in case it gives the exchange a false "fault" indication which reduces your IP Internet Profile.
    I would try the http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and ensure you are using a wired connection to get a reference speed reading.
    After the test results are displayed you can then click the "Further Diagnostics" and entering your phone number.
    As you're such a new installation you might have to wait a few hours/next day until the number is on the BT database.
    Anyhow when the "Further Diagnostics" completes it's test you will get your download and upload IP settings.
    These IP settings are the max speed the Dynamic Line Monitoring equipment at the exchange has put you on to provide a reliable speed.
    During the training period they could change, so it's worth noting them so you can see what is going on and you can add the info to any further postings.
    Example of my  IP for 76Mbps Infinity service is below.
    Hope this helps you gather info.
     Additional Information:
     IP Profile for your line is - 46.83 Mbps
    Please Click On any Text in Blue as that automatically links to information.
  • Is my macbook now safe from java because i just had to install it for it to sort out my macbook
    Hi I bought a macbook pro just a year ago now and i heard about the java security scare , now my mac is up to date all the time but java wanted me to install a new update but is it now safe to use without the worrys of security ???
    Only install Java if you need it, and if you install it, you must keep it updated to the most recent version. OS X Lion and Mountain Lion don't came with Java preinstalled, so you are safe about Java security problems if you haven't installed Java. If you have installed Java, update it.
    It's always dangerous to use privative plugins as Java or Flash because they have got a lot of security problems, so although you keep Java updated, developers will discover more security problems
  • Upload Speed very low
    I got bt inifnity about 2 weeks ago but while the download speed is working fine the upload speed is basically 0 and cant upload anything even a small file from a game. So any help would be great before i phone bt.
    I done the further test on the line and got this -
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed
    35.19 Mbps
    0 Mbps
    38.56 Mbps
    Max Achievable Speed
     Download speedachieved during the test was - 35.19 Mbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-38.56 Mbps .
     Additional Information:
     IP Profile for your line is - 38.56 Mbps
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    0.15 Mbps
    0 Mbps
    20 Mbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.15Mbps
     Additional Information:
     Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
    Try to rule out the HomeHub.
    First, power it off and on again (NOT the white modem) and see if that helps.
    Then try a direct connection from the computer to the modem: a bit of a faffle I am afraid.
    - connect from the modem LAN1 (that is usually connected to the HomeHub/router), to the standard ethernet port on the PC/Mac (that is also usually connected to the router.) So the HomeHub is out of the picture.
    - Make a pppoe connection. On a PC it will be something like
    - 'network and Sharing Centre',
    - 'Set up a new connection',
    - 'Connect to the Internet, set up a broadband or dial-up connection'
    - 'Broadband PPPoE'
    - Then enter username '[email protected]' and password 'bt'.
    Detail may vary a little between different version of windows, and of course even more different on Mac or Linux.
    Repeat your speed tests and see how they go.
    That will help check out if the HomeHub is the problem.
    ~~~~
    Also do a test with firewall and antivirus turned (temporarily) off.
    They can cause off speed problems.

  • Red channel seems very low resolution

    Iwth a HVX200 and P2 workflow, I have noticed in the past that in Final Cut the images look good, but if you export them, the red channel can have artifacts, it looks like a 1/8th of the resolution. This could do with the channel smoothing.. I dunno.
    However, I had a work around (a bit of a chicken dance: opening the original files in quicktime, unchecking then rechecking the 'hi-quality' mode, then saving them as uncompressed.. THEN outputting them as frames.)
    However, with all the newest updates to the P2 importer, I am now noticing that the problem has creeped into Final Cut itself, and there is no way to work around it.
    I have older footage that looks great, if I now go and re-shoot, it looks bad, really bad.
    What is going on ?
    Has anyone else had this problem.
    I work in a large facility, and we do a lot of greenscreen and this is a real problem.
    thanks in advance,
    cris blyth

    like this?
    (200% zoom)
    The little red blocks around the arms.It has something to do with over saturation of the red channel causing problems with color sampling and compression. Fortunately, it goes away once it hits a TV monitor. I'm a little bit confused as well, but I do know what your talking about.
