Just had to re-build my MacBook Pro.
When using to iTunes to backup the iPhone now, I want to move the Contact from iPhone to the Mac and it seems to keep trying to delete the contact from the iPhone. Don't want this to happen. Anyone know how to get the New iTunes app to truly copy the iPhone to the mac?
While I'm sure CopyTrans can pull back data from your iPod Classic you may want to explore the options first. It can be done for free and the money might be better invested in an external drive for backups...

*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

i had a problem with my macbook pro: on tuesday 16th (agoust, 2011) I went to a friend's house and show her some document i had in my computer, then i turned off my mac and it asked me: "there are some actualizations available, do you want to update before turn off?" i clicked on yes, waited for update and then the macbook turned off. When I got back home, I tried to turn it on again.... but nothing: it didn't sound baaaammmmm as allways, it didn't reacted. I tried again, but useless.
The next day i went to one of these "authorized management centers", but they coudn't say anything or do anything about it. First they told me the problem was the battery, then the hard disk, then the video card... but don't. I left my mac there by two weeks, hoping they could help me, but they didn't. So I picked it up and go to other place.
The rare thing is that i have just two years with my mac, and i didn't do anything stupid on it (didn't fall, get wet, microwave, hot, shocked, hit or anything) It just stopped working. Two times it turned on. But if not, it's the same story:
When i pushed the button to turn on, sounds like baaaaaammmm, but then again, and again, and again, and the screen doesn't get blue or anything, it appears a foder with a "?" and then the computer turns off...
Im wondering if this is a problem on this computers, because some of my friends told me things much like that that happened with their macbooks.

Did you try booting off your Install disk holding the c key down. From here you can get to the drop down menu just a few clicks in (you are not going to install) and run the Disk Utility>Repair Disk. See if it will let you do this. -
I just got my daughter a new macbook pro. She currently shares my wifes apple id for iTunes on her iTouch. I need to set up an email account for her. Is there any way to set up a new iCloud email account but still use my wifes apple id for iTunes?
No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that. -
tried to reinstall OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and every time i start with the installation i get a requested time out message, had to shut down my MacBook Pro retina. Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. I've just installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro and cannot now open Preview. I've partly solved the reading of PDF documents by installing Adobe Reader, but Preview is also stalling the log out process. Any suggestions how I might solve this annoying trait would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

If i have Time Machine backed up on an external hard drive, do i just plug the drive into another macbook pro and all my stuff is in the new computer? Also, does it matter if the new computer is running Lion when the backed up info came from Snow Leopard 10.6.8?
No and Yes
Don't use TM for this purpose, clone your drive to an external, plug the external into another MBP and reboot from it. Please note that booting a machine that came with Lion may not be possible from a drive with Snow Leopard. -

CS5.5 and OSX 10.9.4: Most applications will not launch even after uninstalling and reinstalling the Creative Suite 5.5. After my 2011 MacBook Pro 17 died, I had to purchase a new MacBook Pro 15 to replace it. I performed a Time Machine installation from that 2011 machine, and only Distiller and Acrobat would launch (none of the rest of the creation apps). So I ran the CS5.5 installer, uninstalled, then reinstalled, producing the same result. When I try to launch, nothing happens. What next?

I just installed Yosemite on to my MacBook Pro
I just installed Yosemite on to my MacBook Pro and I have noticed that my computer has slowed down, I now start working and all of a sudden, the cursor turns into the little round colored circle and the system "stalls" for a bit.
My favorite bookmarks in Safari are now gone and I have to go into Bookmarks to find then and all of the files and folders on my desktop are now gone, what happened to them and how do I get them back?I also have a blur for a background. I ran a program and saw my background and folders/files behind that blur. I tried to set the background and evidently it did I just can't see past that blurred image.

Have just installed Mavericks and restarted the MacBook Pro. That was 3 hours ago and after logging in, I got my wallpaper and dock, but none of my desktop icons, just the spinning coloured wheel. It's been like that for 2 hours. Is this normal? What should I do, please?
I tried holding the on/off switch down to make it shut down, but when I turned it back on again, the same thing happened and none of the keys etc makes any difference.

Try booting whilst holding down the Shift key - this will allow you to boot into Safe Mode, disabling third-party kernel extensions, etc. Your Mac will be slow to boot and will operate sluggishly. That's normal. If you can get in using Safe Mode then you have some start-up item that doesn't play well with Mavericks.

Just migrated using time machine from MacBook Pro to older Macbook. iPhoto 9.4.3 won't open. Tried reinstall - no change. (Mac OS X 10.7.5)
Did you migrate the app from Time Machine? Reinstall it.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
The reference to NovaMedia is that there is the remanant of an older app in there somewhere that won't run on 10.7

I just ran my updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto won't open. I get a pop up that say's You can't use this version of the applicaton IPhoto with this version of os x. You have iphoto 9.2.3.

Note 1: every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2: If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.
