Just hate my LZ Octane

Just hate this phone. It is not organized in any normal form of logic. I would like to upgrade to a reasonable device but can't till Nov. Anybody know of a way out.

It hurts my heart to hear that you hate your phone! The LG Octane is a great messaging phone with a variety of features similar to a smartphone. If you think that the device's menu is not organized in a logical form then you have the option to change the theme. I have posted the steps on how to change the theme below.
Open the flip up and press the OK (Menu) key.
Press 9 to access Settings & Tools.
Press 7 to access.
Display Settings.
Press 7 to access Display Themes.
Select Internal Theme/External Theme and press the OK (Menu) button.
Once you go thru the themes, you will noticed that there are more themes for the internal screen than there are for the external screen. This is due to the size of the screen and the menu options that it has. If you tried all the themes and still hate your phone then you have a couple of option on how to get another one.Please see options below.
Trade in your old phone for a gift card and use to buy a new device. (www.trade-in.http://www.trade-in.vzw.comvzw.com)
Upgrade to a different model device. (If a line is eligible for upgrade)
Purchase device at full retail.
Buy a device from a 3rd party site. (Ebay or Craigslist)
Activate an old phone or a phone from a friend or relative.
If you are looking for additional options or would like to exercise one of the above mentions then please reply to this message for assistance.

How do I disable Autocomplete COMPLETELY without messing with other settings such as with the location bar? I still like to see websites there that I've been to, without typing it in every time, but just hate the autocomplete part.

Case: When I go to Tools - Options - Privacy then Location Bar options, there should be another option to where we can disable auto-complete from the Location Bar without messing with other settings. Example #1: I click "Nothing" and then I gotta type in the website I wanna go to every single time. Example #2: I click "History & Bookmarks" and then it auto-completes. Is there any other option just to disable Auto-Complete all together??

I have developed a simple java application that is used to remotly administer a database. The application connects to a server which in turn connects to the database. The user navigates the database by a series of navagational buttons(forward, back, first ect). When one of these buttons are pressed a record number is sent to the server which gets the corrosponding record from the database and creates an Object of the data and sends it to the application via ObjectOutputStream. The application then displays all the information in a GUI. This works (just)OK on a broadband connection because it is fast enough for the user not to notice the data transfer. But if the application is been run on a dial up connection the application stalls while the record is got every time a navagational button is pressed. This can be very anoying if you need to get to a certain record and hava to go through serveral records to get there. I was thinking in the line of Threads but I dont know how to implement it. Any Ideas.

So to give a simple example, when the user starts up the application he/she sees record number 1. And to go to record number 10, has to press the "Next" button 9 times and wait while each record is brought down from the server. Right?
Well, you could have a background thread that is already reading record number 2, and 3, and so on while the user is staring at record number 1 on the screen. You would have to have your "Next" button interface with that thread to ask it for record number 2, which it might already have, and wait if it didn't. Then you have the problem of deciding how far ahead this thread should be allowed to get... if the user leaves the room for a break, should it read the next 12,000 records?
On the other hand you could change your application so that the user could say "Give me record number 10" or "Give me the record about Omar's Bakery". This would only require waiting for one record and might improve the user's experience too.

Ohh i just hate this card..

Why did I even buy this card? I have a problem, after installing the tv @nywhere card, all off a sudden my sound blaster audigy card doesnt work, what causes this. The sound from the @nywhere card works but my soundcard does not work.
Please someone help me.. Today I got so irritated that i even hit my computer... FRUSTRATING!!

First, please decide which card you have. The tv@nywhere and the tv@nywhere MASTER are two distinct cards, each with its own software.
Second, get the CORRECT software for whichever card you have from MSI downloads - the stuff on the CD is useless.
Third, the audio (line) output of the card is intended to be fed into the audio (line) input of the sound card - directly connecting low impedance speakers will be a massive overload.
Fourth, Creative sound cards are always a problem when it comes to interrupt line sharing - as Doctor Stu says, try moving cards about to see if there is a workable pairing.
Fifth, if the Wincinema service task is loaded, when WinDVR (MSIPVS) is not running, the tv card will be constantly repetiively muted.

One thing about itunes that i just hate!

everytime i adjust the names of files or change the name of any folder i have to re-add them to the itunes library and i loss the ratings and play count for all of them. it's really annoying me!!
window media player don't have the issue but other functions couldn't compare to itunes.

No, it can't. If you tinker with file and folder names directly, it will break the links within iTunes. iTunes has no "watch" feature, so it can't keep track of changes you make manually. Sorry, but there's no workaround for this; you either have to make changes from within iTunes, or re-link the files yourself.

Just downloaded FreehandMX on snow leopard - why won't it open?

After much too-ing and fro-ing with Adobe tech, cust service and sales, I've been told the only way to get freehand mx on my new imac (snow leopard) is to download the free trial version and after 30 days enter my S/N to make it permanent. I downloaded it when I bought it 4 years ago onto another computer and didn't make a copy.
So, I've installed it. But when I try to open it, nothing happens. Nothing. I've tried opening the program, I've tried opening a FH file, nothing.
Any suggestions? I will be lost without FH!! I just hate illustrator. . . .

Hello fellow FreeHand lovers, Long Live the King of Drawing Programs.
I just installed Snow Leopard and I have an old Scanner that loads some software on startup, the system told me it was incompatable & was installing "Rosetta" so that it would work which it now does. I opened FreeHand later & it works perfectly except for some Font issues & slow screen redraw, I think it's Rosetta that FreeHand needs to operate properly. Rosetta is an emulator that ensures Power Mac software still operates.
I don't know how you can force load Rosetta, I'm sure a google search or Apple can tell you.
I hope this Helps.
I have tried & tried but FreeHand still beats Illustrator hands down for ease of use & useful tools & features.

Just got flobbed off by customer service

ok, ranting - but kinda po'd with customer sevrice right now.
For the past 3 days cell coverage has been dire too poor (at best) and I have forgotten just how many times my wife and I have reset our phones (battery pull) to try and get coverage.
Normally - we both have full sevrice (voice and data)
We both have a Moto Droid (the original one).
I called customer service who advised that they could not see any cell outages and that I need to do a hard reset and a PRL update (*288 send)
After 3 attempts I finally managed to get an 'Update successful from the automated service' which just happend to be while I was on hold waiting for tech support.
The customer service agent then came back to me, after I told her that I got a successful response back to which she replied that I needed to take my phone into a verizon store to be re-flashed.
Alarm bells started ringing so I asked what flash update had both my I wife and I had missed and she replied Nov 28.
er, no - we both have 2.2.1 which is the last official Verizon FW push.
Both my wife and I's phones swap between no cell coverage and 1 bar (intermitent 3G).
oh, I also it is not the phones - my wife and I popped out to the local post office (which is about a mile away) I got a signal then.
so, I guess I will have to call customer service again - I need this phone for work.
I just hate been flobbed off is all.

Update
Called customer service back who transferred me to tech support. Cell outage was reported last night and engineers have already be deployed. No target fix time but they are working on it.

That would be the prorated charges. That would happed. Most customes do not understand nor ask about them when they go over their minutes they just panic and want their minutes up to a high level.
Techincally you are responsible for the prorated charge since its on the websites it tells you about proration. (It explains it normally on the billing options section when you selection when you want the changes to take place when it talks about the billing will be prorated).
I doubt you can argue you didn't know about the proration since its actually listed in ( ) next to one of the options for making it take affect the same day. Ex. Same Day (Prorated) Not the exact wording but did not feel like logging in and going through the entire steps.
Best way to fight this if you feel tricked is head back to that page scan it look for where you see if no information about it is listed take a screen shot and email it to VZW as proof. This way your covered about the proration. Talk to a CS rep on the phone while you do it.

Why I HATE Nokia now after my first ever Nokia Pho...

(this is a reply to a blog post that was previewing some 'good' additions to nokia's UI in 2010/2011 and was hoping for good UI from nokia)
Given how much i'm annoyed by the little missing things from my 5530 XpressMusic phone (its Symbian S60v5). I don't know if nokia will ever get better.
There are simple HCI things missing from Nokia's UI and make me question the seriousness of this big giant's dedication to its users.
1- While sending a message, you aren't displayed with the shortlisted users (who you send most of your messages to), you will have to scroll/search through the whole phonebook. Heck even my old SonyEric k750/k790 had this feature of shortlisted top contacts 4,5 years back.
2- Come to removing/shutting off alarms, and you have to follow 5 steps to remove each alarm. (for a person like me who sets up 3,4 alarms), good luck playing with your phone early morning trying to remove the rest 3 alarms if you wake up by the first alarm. >a) Click the alarm icon on top right of home screen. b) select the alarm you want to delete c) (**bleep**? no delete button directly? come on its a touch phone, ok) click on options from bottom left, d) select remove. e) confirmation (yes i want to remove my billionar dollar alarm , now please don't make me follow more steps at 6am in the morning, for gods sake Nokia.
3- The musci player, the worst i've seen in a phone. You CAN NOT go click on the music player and expect a 'now playing' screen will pop up (unless the player is already running/minimized). You will have to go through the menu and choose the the category (playlist/album/artist) then select the playlist / album you wanna hear to, and THEN SELECT the song you want to play. Imagine doing that 4,5 times a day. thats 4,5 steps to just LISTEN TO a SONG ON A MUSIC FAN. Nokia! are you kidding your users??
4- The phone slows down like hell at times (its jst 2 months since i bought it), it'd respond two 2,3 clicks all at once and e.g. i click on the menu launch button, nothing happens, i click again and i notice that NOW THE PHONE has awaken and answered to both the clicks at once but instantly opening and closing the the menu. REALLY NOKIA??
5- i'll add more stuff when i remember, right now i'm so **bleep**-anoyyed by Nokia, i just hate my new phone and will definitely buy a Sony Ericsson or ANY OTHER GOOD PHONE that cares about the HCI they present to their users.

@NCC_1701, i respect your agreeing that Nokia has alot to do to make their phones more user-friendly. They definitely need to improve their UI if they're targetting such a big market. I see their big billboards all over, they need to cut some marketting funds and divert those to software user interface. To be honest, its a disappointment for me since i switched to Nokia whereas i could have gotten a newer phone of my old favorite company.
To clarify my points that i made earlier, i'll respond to your points one by one.
1) The Sony Ericsson K750/K790 were in no way targetted at business users. If you search the different websites and forums, they have the biggest user base from teenage market share. Infact The k750/k790 were the most sold sets after the walkman series in that time. as per your saying that "nokia removed and 'unnecessary' step from the messaging part", i wouldn't call it unnecessary since the XpressMusic brand is in no way targetted at the 'business user', but rather at the teenage-music-loving market segment. Now I don't know about you, but most of the people i know need to stay constantly in touch with upto 10-20 same people. A short-list of those people on the send message, before showing the user all the 500 contacts is a bit of an overkill and tbh doesnt really make sense. (i'm not sure if any quality assurance/HCI experts at nokia ever thought about that... are they really doing what they're paid for, indirectly by the phone users??)
2) As a software engineering graduation, we're also thought about making our software user friendly and intuitive to use. Sure repeating alarms are good way to enable disable, but for most of the students/teenagers or even office users, who might have different commitments/appointments/classes on different times at each weekday, ... rather than telling the users to cope with the problem by switching to some other method like using repeating-alarms, it'd be much easier to just add a delete button on the alarms screen. That way, just selecting the alarm and pressing delete should disable/delete it.
3) The media player showing the option of chossing the playlist/album/author category on start screen is in no way 'easier for the user'. Majority of the media players , including the ones on Sony Ericsson phones, will atleast give you a 'now playing' option so you can directly go to the last song you were listening. And this option makes more sense. I'm not saying the other startup options should be removed, just another option like the one i described makes it more easier to use, not to mention i'm talking about an XpressMusic phone that is targetted at music lovers... HELLO NOKIA? do you mind surveying about what the users want??
4) I never said my phone gets sluggish just becuase i left it unused on a table. What i described as the sluggish performance was when you're using the phone itself and navigation around, it would randomly gets slow and unresponsive. I didn't mention the unexpected rebooting of the phone that might occur once or twice a week, where you might be typing a text message or listening to a song and you see those colored vertical lines, then a white screen and then a reboot, thats on a new Nokia phone with no additional software installed, and its with an upgraded firmware from nokia.
5) The unexpected shutting down of the default browser. It just disappears and you're back in the internet folder. You never know what went wrong, you don't get an option to launch the browser again and visit the same page again (hello NOKIA, rings any bells? take any modern browser, you get to visit the same page again if a tab or browser crashes)
6) Unnecessary steps of clicking to do easy tasks. There are so many tasks that require you do unnecessary clicking through menus to do a certain task. I wont list all, but talking about my specific phone, lets say i'm on the call logs page, and i see a list of last incoming calls, i click on a number, and it shows a menu to call , or create a message. the obvious thing would be if i click the 'create a message' menu item, it should take me to the sms tab, but NOT this time, .. it shows me another sub menu, do i want to send a text message or an audio message?, no EINSTEIN, i'm not sure if majority of the users even use audio messages more than 15-20% of the times. Why not just take me to create a text message like majority of the other phones in the market?
and it doesn't end here, once you're in the create text message screen, the 'receiver' is obviously alread selected since you click on his name in the calls-log when you chose to send him/her a message, but this time, you see his number and the blank text area (un editable) below it. Now you will have to click ONCE MORE on the uneditable text area to finally get to the text editor and type the message (Thank GOD!). There are numerous such scenarios that i've faced while using the phone for last few months, and i think anyone who have used his/her phone for 2,3 months can definitely point out alot of such HCI/UI issues, so why didn't anyone at nokia learn/take care of that? that, i can't compute.
Seriously, i could go on listing more and more issues, but then i'd be doing the job of someone or a TEAM at Nokia, who are getting paid for something like this, that THEY ARE NOT doing right.
Please take care of these issues before a next firmware release, instead of populating the market with loads of new models with more issues and headaches for the users.

UGH....just got off the phone with CS

I was originally told my phone would ship by 9/7 when I placed the order over the phone. I called CS today to check on the status and now they are telling me it won't ship till 9/8 which means I won't get it till 9/9!! I was really hoping to get the phone early and now I won't get it till after the date they promised me! ( I just hate it when you are expecting something and then they tell you something completely different. I know its only 2 days but still....this is my first smart phone and I'm really excited about getting it. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

What do you mean when you say you "checked to make sure we are covered"? Did you add the Canada plan, or just verify that you could call/text while there? You can make and receive calls and texts, but there is a roaming charge for all of that, also for data if you have a smartphone. You also should get a text telling you that you have established an international connection on each phone you take with you, and then to alert you of roaming charges as they add up. Checking to make sure you had service isn't enough, and you can't blame Verizon if you ignore alerts and didn't research costs and options before traveling. And no, I am not a Verizon employee, shill, or troll. Just an informed customer.

Transferring to LG Octane

I currently have a Samsung Intensity II on prepaid. I just ordered an LG Octane on contract that should be here Thursday. This is a completely new account, with a new phone number. Is there an easy/simple way to get everything (Pics, contacts) off my Intensity II and onto my Octane?

Micro SD card. You'll need to copy files/folders to your computer, put card in Octane to re- format, then put files in appropriate folders on card using your PC. I don't think the folders are the same but you can copy them try it a redo it if you need to. Did this exact thing about 6 months ago, except from an Intensity I not II.

Why, Why, Why Does 10.6 Hate Me?

I wanted to upgrade my 10.5 to 10.6, but the 10.6 installer does not recognize my striped drive set. The 10.5 installer had no problem recognizing it when I upgraded from 10.4. Is there some technical reason for this or does 10.6 just hate me?

The original poster will probably find himself behind the eight ball. He will almost certainly be faced with erasing his entire RAID setup and repartitioning with GUID in order to install OS X 10.6 if he currently has APM.

Please b nice, but I HATE my & my dtrs Droid 2 Globals!

Forgive me for number 1, not being really technically talented or knowing all the lingo. A year ago I bought my daughter and I matching White Droid 2 Globals...At first I thought they were cool, and was just learning how to use all its functions, my daughter was the first one to note a bunch of issues like dropped calls, freezing, restarting, not txting, and other issues...then it started on mine. But most of the problems, like the short battery life and rebooting, were tolerable, althought aggravating, but I figured it goes along with these smart phones...
However, over the past few months our phones have turned into objects that make us both turn into Linda Blair in the bed scene from the EXorcist!!! They shut down constantly, mine wouldn't place or receive calls so I got it replaced a week ago because it was still under manufacturers warranty.....which expired on Jan. 16th...anyway, this "fresh" replacement is WORSE than my old one!!! It wont text...lets maybe five letters then freezes or goes to another screen...has all the old issues and then some. My daughters is really junk...and I just didn't think to replace hers before warranty went out...I have chronic health issues and also care for a 92 y/o gma who does as well...so it's incredibly important to me to always have my phone and to be able to reach my daughter.
I just don't know what to do, all week I've meant to call Verizon and explain, but I've been in and out of hospital, then taking care of gma, home, animals, homework, husband, life, etc....haven't been able too...I can't afford to spend money, and am afraid that's the pitch I may get...we are not eligible for upgrades yet, and I have no money now anyway. My daughter is so disgusted with Smart Phones she wants to go back to "dumb" phones...lol.
So I guess what I'm wondering is, what would my best options be, considering my circumsstances? I have the Asurion, but I can't afford $99 for me and my dtr. anytime soon. Will they take the piece of junk they just sent me and send me another replacement free? Its not my fault its junkier than the one I sent them, right? Should I buy used phones cheap off ebay or something? How would that work? I just activate any phone I buy online? And cancel current phone? I'm a real idiot with stuff like this. So, maybe ssomeone knows why I can't text or why the many other issues are occurring...??
It has me really frustrated...and stressed...and I don't need more stress in my world.

The locking up while typing text or emails and throwing you out to the internet or wherever is from the software update in Sept 2011. I have had this issue on 3 phones since then (they would send me new phones because they thought it was a phone problem) - IT IS NOT THE PHONE! They replace it and it happens in another 4-6 weeks. Keep a record of all your calls with Verizon - dates, times, length of phone call, who you talked to, etc. Do NOT leave them alone till your phone is working...do not settle. They are sending me a Droid 3 to replace my Droid 2 Global. The Verizon guy thinks this model is not having the same issues - we will see! (I used to LOVE my phone - now I just hate Motorola! They were NO help after over an hour and a half on the phone. They said they had no issues with the Droid 2! Huh? Do they read the internet or communicate with Verizon?!?!) Good luck!

Unfortunately - no there isn't. Safari uses tabs in iOS 5. If you are so inclined, the iCab Mobile browser still offers the thumbnail view. I use iCab mobile all the time. IMO it is far superior to Safari.
Get the hang of iOS 5 and using Safari with tabs and it may not bother you at all. Some users just hate the fact that thumbnails went away in iOS 5 and you can keep iCab Mobile in mind if you really want thumbnails back.
