Just install windows on my new macbook

Does anybody knows if I need to get antivirus for the windows side of my mac????

You have to install an antivirus because Windows may be infected. The best antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials. You can download it from the Microsoft website free of charge and it's the best antivirus. You don't need anything more

Just installed windows 7 on my macbook (Mac OS X Snow Leopard) using bootcamp.  Windows 7 works great, but I can't get back to my Snow Leopard.  When I log off or shut down Windows and try to start up again, all I get is Windows.  How do I get back to my mac operating system?

If your Mac is off then start up. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Option key until the Mac and Windows Disks show up. Then click on the Mac disk and the arrow below it. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.
If you are in Windows then look for the Boot Camp icon on the taskbar. It will look like a gray box sitting on one corner. One of the options when you click it is to restart in Mac OS. After it boots up in Mac then go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and select your Mac partition as the Startup disk.

    Hi!
I'm new to the Mac world and I need to install windows on my new Macbook pro for running my flight simulator software which only runs on windows. I would like to purchase and download the windows 8.1 rather than buying the CD.
When i go to the microsoft store and click windows 8.1 it says it is only for who has windows xp or vista...
can you tell me where and how can i purchase the full installation 8.1 for download?
i will keep the ISO file on my flash drive.
    Thanks!

it's likely an upgrade you are looking for and not a full install of windows

  • Buying and installing Windows for a new MacBook

    (1) What version of Windows OS would be best for the 13" 80 GB MacBook I just bought? After looking on the MS website, I'm confused about whether Vista has replaced XP or whether it's still in Beta (or even actually exists yet).
    (2) Any tips on installing Windows on the MacBook? And should I hold off installing Parallels until I know Windows runs okay with BootCamp, or does it not matter how I set up Windows/Parallels?
    (3) If I want to use MS Office on the Windows platform, do I have to get MS Office for Windows (XP, Vista, or whatever)? Or does Word 2004 for Mac somehow magically work with Windows?
Thanks for any advice on all this.

Thanks, Jim; that's encouraging. The person I'll be sharing the computer with thought we should have Windows, so I convinced him that we should get another Mac and then I would just install Windows. Still, it will probably just lie around gathering dust, since Mac is so much more stable and so much easier.
One last question: I saw from another post that it's unlikely that Windows running on a Mac would be infected by a virus, and I assume that a Windows virus wouldn't affect the Mac platform even on the same computer.
However, just as a theoretical problem: If a hacker did succeed in hacking into a Windows computer (that's on dial-up), could he get into the Mac area, too? Just curious.

  • Help -- cannot install Windows on my new Macbook Pro

I have a new 2010 Macbook Pro with an Intel SSD inside, and where the DVD drive is I have a 500 GB hard drive with the MCE Optibay, which I used with no issues for 1 1/2 years in my last laptop. I have everything set up nicely however I find I am unable to boot any Windows disk when I go to install boot camp. I set up the 2nd partition, then go to do the installation using an external DVD drive that I've used before with no issues. The disc is sesned and everything seems like it will work but instead of booting the Windows installer disc I get a "No" Mark (like Ghostbusters without the ghost) and it stops booting. I've tried Vista (two different discs) and 7 and nothing will boot.
Can anyone tell me how I can go about installing Windows on my 2nd disc. The disc itself is fine. Boot Camp sees it and says which disc would I like to make a Windows partition on, and all seems fine -- but the OS just won't boot off the Windows disc no matter what. Have tried 2 different external USB drives and it's frustrating.
    Hope someone can help!

The problem you are experiencing probably isn't unique to your particular MBP. It took me two months to get Win7 (32 bit) installed and working on my MBP (early 2010 15.6" screen). I gave up on trying to get the 64 bit version to work. As far as I am concerned getting Win 7 to play on a Mac Book Pro is a crap shoot. You really have to be lucky, good has nothing to do with it. Maybe in another 6 months things will have progressed to the point that the installation is actually a no brainer. Sorry I can't be more supportive of your efforts.
I don't have a clue as to why the 32 bit version installed (not without problems I might add), and I could never get the 64 bit version to play. I used the retail version of Win 7 Ultimate which came with both 32 and 64 bit DVD's.

  • Anyone manage to install Windows 8 on new Macbook air?

    Hello,
Got a new "June 2013" MacbookAir 13" 8GB 256SSD and I've been trying for days to install Windows 8 PRO 64-bit using Bootcamp. No joy. Tried both a USB key and an external DVD drive. Same problem all the time: in the Windows 8 setup, I selec the country and language, press Next and it tells me that a "DVD media driver" is missing. I browse to the WINSTALL and BOOTCAMP directories on the USB key which Bootcamp created, it doesn't find any drivers.
If I use Windows 7 32-bit, it gets to the country/keyboard selection and then freezes.
Is it just that Bootcamp doesn't support Haswell yet? That's a pity cos it means I need to keep two laptops.
    Thanks for any advice,
    - Alan.

    Got it to work finally.
Used BootCamp Assistant to download the Windows drivers to a USB key and create a BootCamp partition. Don't use it to create a USB boot disk.
That's my biggest tip - use a DVD not a USB boot disk.
Also, if you get a "media driver missing" error, then get a different ISO image and burn it to DVD. Don't use IMG files converted to ISO files.
When Windows setup boots, you'll probably need to click on the advanced drive options and re-format the BOOTCAMP partition. Otherwise Windows will say that it can't install on it. Be careful that you select that one.
During the setup, Windows will reboot. Remember to hold down the Alt key when you hear the dong and select the Windows DVD (first time) and the Windows drive (second time).
After Windows installs, install the BootCamp drivers in WININSTALL\BootCamp on the USB key by running setup.
Takes maybe 15 mins to install Windows 8.

  • Can't install windows 8 on new macbook pro retina display.

I spent my afternoon trying to install Windows 8 Pro on my new Macbook Pro with retina display. I get fairly deep into the installation process using bootcamp when I get a windows message that says something to the effect that windows can't be installed because the hard drive is not formatted in NTSF format. And that is the end of the line.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's normal. Boot Camp Assistant formats the Boot Camp volume in FAT32 because in the past it supported Windows XP and it could use FAT32. This changed with Windows Vista.
The only thing you have to do is to choose the BOOTCAMP partition in this step, and select "Drive options (advanced)". Then, press "Format" and it will be formatted into NTFS, so press Next and the installation will start.

  • Issues with installing windows on a new macbook pro retina.

    Hello,
First time using bootcamp on my new macbook and I am running into an issue.
I have read the troubleshooting guide and everything else and no matter what I do I get the same problem.
The issue is that when bootcamp restarts after partitioning my drive, windows loads and I start the install process. Its says set up is starting and then it says that a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. I only have one usb drive connected (the one with windows on it) and nothing else. This is getting incredibly frustrating haha.

Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool  Windows  can be used with any VM
The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your Windows 7 ISO file on a USB flash drive or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 directly from the USB flash drive or DVD.

Install Windows 7 From USB Drive
Before you begin, you will require the following:
    USB Flash Drive (4GB minimum)
    Windows 7 ISO Image file
    UNetbootin
Note: If UNetbootin doesn’t work, try out the Microsoft’s official tool called Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool.
Note that resulting USB drives from UNetbootin are bootable only on PCs (not on Macs).

What do I need to know. Can I use the same version I puchased for my PC. How do I install it? I am a new Mac user. Any tips, pointers or otherwise would be apprecated.
Also I need to puchase Office and am a student. Where should I purchase it?
    Thanks All!

    No.
You would need to get a new copy as the licence only allows you to install on a single computer, as it is already install on your PC, you would need another copy to install on the MacBook.

  • I just installed photoshop in my new macbook, but it says i don't have enough memory

I haven't used much of my memory, the only programs i've installed are adobe c5 and microsoft office. When I open photoshop and try to use it says "cannot complete your request because there is not enough memory" after every click of the mouse.

ya, that is just kind of a band-aid though. later if you decide you will need to add more RAM, go to crucial.com and download their mac scanner. it will tell you what kind you need and usually they have pretty good prices. buying RAM from apple would cost you.

Use the Toshiba recovery disk or the Toshiba HDD recovery option.
If you dont have the Toshiba Recovery disk try the HDD recovery:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
This works only if the recovery image files from Toshiba are still on the HDD:
If you installed the system using another disk as Toshiba recovery disk, this recovery option will not work.

  • HT4410 I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7

Dear Apple. I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7 bootcamp install download from Apple

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.

  • How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1

How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1 ?
My Superdrive is far from super anymore, So I managed to make an extern drive with both Snow Leopard Partition, Lion Partition (Since I thought Boot Camp 4,1 would bypass my problem), and Time Machine partition, Since I got 1. USB drive that works.
    - My general issue is that Boot camp Refuse to see the USB drive - (Many "how to"´s though show how they install windows perfectly through the USB port, but they use airbooks!, and somehow the Macbook will not ?)
I fix that issue with >> rEFIt <<, that suddenly makes it possible for the Mac to see the USB drive, and partitions.
Which was very strange since I could use an extern HD with the whole installation to start up wipe the whole disk, and then use my extern drive with partitions to install Snow Leopard and get everything as before with timemachine. Very smart with timemachine, but very lucky that I have a extern drive that runs the whole system and that I made the partitionsdrive before. DVD-drives are the past!
Point: So the original system could see the Snow Leopard installation USB disk, but boot camp cannot find the USB drive ?????????
After rEFIt I booted and then I got this error:
    Starting bootmgr.efi
    Error: Unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi
I read it could be a problem with the Windows software, so I purchased an extern DVD drive, Used Disk Utility to make an image (.DMG), then used another program to convert the .dmg to .ISO.
Then downloaded a trialversion of vmWare fusion, and installed windows from the iso. Everything worked brilliant, except and that is why I want to use boot camp, Running windows in another program while running the mac system is a little hacky and slow.
Point: Nothing is wrong with the windows software, and windows runs fine.
I then downloaded the Windows DVD / USB Tool, reformatted a USB drive as Master Boot Partition, MS-Dos Fat partition, then after lots of struggling got Vmware, windows to recognise the USB drive. And installed the windows software on the USB drive, as all the walkthroughs recommend.
Then I tried for "fun"! to just install windows form the extern USB drive, and with rEFIt it will see the drive and start to do something, but then when it starts to boot, the screen just turns into black and nothing happens, and you can see the drive does NOTHING. (I think it is because I only have 1 USB drive and the Extern DVD drive does not get enough power, but again the mac refuse to see the USB drive unless it is a Snow Leopard installation USB-drive!
Well trying to install Windows Ultimate 64 Bit, which worked great in vmware, because that program installed from the .ISO file that I had on the desktop, but trying with Boot Camp did not get anywhere, what kind of **** program is this boot camp anyway!?, but then I try the new USB disk with windows made from windows, thorugh rEFIt, it sees the disk and then starts and then I get this ERROR:
    rEFIt - Booting Legacy OS
    Starting legacy loader
    Using load option ´USB´
Error: Not found returned from legacy loader
    Error: Not found from LocateDevicePath
    (x 9 times)
Error: Load Error while (re)opening our installation volume
The firmware refused to boot from the selected volume. Note that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple´s firmware for legacy OS booting
(Hey Apple please send out a updated firmware that fix this issue?!)
So how do I do it ? - or is the only option to fix the partition running the system from the extern disk. Format the whole drive in 2 from the "bottom" and install windows and then afterwards install Mac on the other partition ?  Or just run windows on the mac and forget about mac software ? What a stupid solution...

There are strings in the pliist file to add other Macs so that you can use some USB-DVD drives.
This is 5 page thread, so a little more 'meat' to it:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3410900?start=60&tstart=0
And on PC booting Windows from a USB DVD to do the install is usually a piece of cake, sometimes you just need to specify that USB in the BIOS boot order and sometimes select via F12 (or another Fkey) and that is it.
What you have here seems to be everything and everyone is excluded unless there is a  mac-model device ID string that specifies yes.  An unnecessary hurdle.

Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!

Maybe this can help someone else...  I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that.  I think that sorted it!  I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back.  Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6.  Here's a link on how to properly uninstall CS3 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS.  I'm on OS X 10.9.2 but it worked just fine.  Remove Creative Suite 3 and CS3 products
