Just installed CS5 - every file I open shows up as a BLACK screen

I'm a complete novice (been using PhotoShop 6.0 until today). Every file I try to open up (.psd .jpg .tif) I can't see the photo - can only see BLACK within the window. Shows filename just fine. Under "Layers" next to "Background" I can see the thumbnail of the photo.
Just paid $700 for this freaking software, and I've been ON HOLD with the horrendous telephone support line for an hour and a half. I am BEYOND frustrated. This is probably something simple, I just don't know what is wrong.

You can turn off OpenGL drawing for the time being to avoid the problem. (then restart Photoshop to be safe)
But the cause is a bug in your video card driver, and you need to update your video card driver to pick up bug fixes.
Also, get the updated driver from the GPU makers' web site (NVidia or ATI), not the computer or board maker's web site.

Adobe Reader 11.0.5 asks to save every file I open...

Every time I open a file just to look at it: When I exit, Adobe Reader asks if I want to save the file. This happens on every file I open, regardless of the source or type of PDF. It also happens when I open those files in Adobe Acrobat Pro, version 9. This has only started relatively recently. I didn't pay much attention at first, because I had other things on my mind, but now it is starting to concern me.
This reminds me of (way back in the day) when there were Word viruses going around which tried to install themselves in every Word document you opened.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, or how I can get it to stop?

This phenomenon can happen with PDF files that have errors in them. Adobe Reader or Acrobat may be able to fix these errors, but if you close the application, it will ask to save the corrected file. If you save it once, that should no longer occur when you open it again.
This is just one explanation, but it doesn't explain why that happens with every PDF you have.
Test: does it also happen with a PDF that is not supposed to contain any errors: http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Cs5 should run on mac os x 10.6.8
It depends on whether you want to keep cs4 or not.
There is really no need to uninstall cs4, as both cs4 and cs5 can "live together"
If your sure that you don't want to keep cs4, then yes, it would be a good idea to uninstall cs4 before installing cs5.

My computer thinks a Indesign CS5.5 file is open

My computer's power source failed and turned off while an Indesign CS5.5 file is open. Now trying to access the file, my computer (a mac) thinks it's still open. I'd like to either "close" down the file my computer thinks is open or delete the file (I have good copy on an external hard drive). Anyone have any advice? Thanks so much.

Is this document located on your computer, you're not working on it across a server where someone else might legitimately have it open? If that's the case, look in the folder where this document is located, see if there's a file name in that folder that starts with a tilde and ends with ".idlk". That's the lock file that keeps multiple users from opening the same document in a shared environment. If it's only you working on this, it should be safe to delete it, and you should then be able to open the file.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Why is an mov file showing up as a black screen with only audio?

I am importing a mov file into elements 11 and it is only showing up as a black screen with audio. The clip will play in other programs on my computer but is not importing into elements 11. The file was created on my panisonic camera. I am pretty new to video editting and am quite frusterated. I'm assuming it is some sort of codec issue but don't know how to proceed. Thanks for any help.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

take the out hdd first, and see what happens. Also you may want to take the ram out and then restart.

Firefox start like it has just installed (checks add-ones and open whats new tab) after every windows restart

i installed the 6.0.2 recently i am not really like this it started to be annoying every time i start firefox after reboot it start checking add-ones capability and open what's new tab as if i just installed it

i solved it by deleting user.js file it works fine now
