Just installed memory, fast blinking sleep light

Installed Ram on my MacBook. Now I have blank screen and my sleep light is rapidly blinking?

Count me in on this question - I have a 2006 Macbook - trying to upgrade 1 gb ram (2 X 512) to 4 bg (2x2) - I got the PC2-5300 667 DDR2 2x2 GB kit from Kingston, and had the same issues. The only thing that will work is the original ram in the notebook now.
The reason I'm trying to do this is to upgrade to Lion to be able to switch over to the freaking iCloud soon...
Any advice???

  • Fast blinking sleep indicator, computer shuts self down, trouble rebooting

And I've gotten columns of horizontal lines (1" long, 1/8" tall) across the screen that locks system. I also get the kernl panic screen that tells me to reboot. When computer sleeps, it sometimes goes from the slow pulse to a fast blink where I cannot restart the computer without doing a hard-boot. Sometimes, the computer just shuts down.
    Help?

Yikes! It sounds like you have several problems. I might suggest you visit a local Apple store and make an appointment with the Mac Genius to have a look at your MacBook. I've never heard of a fast-blinking sleep light when the computer is already turned on. A blinking sleep light may be an indication (at startup) that you have a RAM problem. Have you added or changed the RAM that came with your MacBook?

  • Rapidly Blinking Sleep Light

My MacBook screen suddenly goes black and the sleep light blinks rapidly (not pulsing like usual when asleep). When this happens I cannot shut down or restart using the power button. The first time it happened it was unplugged. The second time (a week later) it was plugged into the AC adapter. The only way to remedy the issue is to let it be and allow the battery to fully charge.
I also tried to reset the PRAM and SMC the first time it happened but that didn't solve the issue.
To add to the issue, I resently had Apple service my laptop after water was spilled on it. Most hardware was replaced including logic board, memory, hard drive, etc.

When the sleep light is flickering like that, it is a warning that the RAM isn't installed correctly. If you've installed RAM recently, it might very well be the problem. Try reinstalling and pushing it harder into the slot.

  • RAM replacement - blinking sleep light

I just tried to replace my RAM, and when I powered on my mid-2007 macbook the sleep light began blinking. I tried putting the old memory back in (that came with the macbook) and it still won't boot. You can hear the harddrive turn on, then it goes quiet and the sleep light blinks endlessly until the battery is taken out. I have tried reseating the old RAM (I've given up on the new RAM for the time being) and the problem continues. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

It takes a lot of pressure to reseat the RAM modules correctly....more than you would think....try again ....be more forceful...be careful.....about the time you think it has bottomed out...it will actually need to go a little further....

  • New power supply and sleep light question

I just got my iMac back with a new power supply and logic board installed under the Apple repair extension program. I had diagnosed the problem using the Apple troubleshooting assistant online. When I did this I also reset the SMU (system management unit) per the instructions with the troubleshooting assistant.
My computer is now working correctly but when I run Software Update I am prompted to install the iMac G5 Sleep Light Update version 1.0. I had previously installed version 2.0.0 back in July/05. I don't have the ambient light sensor iMac. I am a little nervous about installing this version or reinstalling the version I alreay have in my utilities. I realize this is a firmware update and cannot be reversed.
Anyone else experience this with 2 different versions of the Sleep Light Update, I don't seem to be able to find any info on the Apple site.
    Thanks for any info
    Scott

"reinstalling the version I alreay have in my utilities"
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have it in your utilities folder, I believe that means that the installer folder has been downloaded, but the install was not done. I am thinking that once installed, it disappears from the Utilities folder.
I see no reason why you would need to do that firmware update if you don't want it. In the future, if you or someone else wants to do the update, it'll still be available on the Apple website.

  • HELP! Double blinking red light

I was in the middle of upgrading the software on my curve 8330, the software stopped doing anything, and now my phone is off and just has a double blinking red light.
I figure its now dead, but how can i fix this using my mac?
I see plenty of instructions on how to load a new OS using a PC, but none for a mac
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the forums
It seems you may have wiped the OS due to the accidental shut down. Try pulling your battery out and reinserting it to see if the phone boots up. If not, see how to restore a bricked blackberry: http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
If you have a recent backup, you can load it onto the phone once you are done.

  • What is this code mean, ( 14 slow blinking lights and 5 fast blinking lights) mean

need to know what this means please, 14 slow blinking lights and 5 fast blinking lights) mean

thank you thank you for taking an interest. this is so frustrating.
i only have apple keyboard, mighty mouse, and 20 inch cinema display connected. this morning took out memory and tried to boot up with individual pairs in the first bank. first the (2)256, the (2) 1g, and then the other (2) 1g modules. everytime I get the weird fuzzy wheel under the logo after a while, black screen flashes, then grey apple logo fuzzy screen then black forever.
I ran tiger updates this morn. still will only boot to safe mode. then tried to run leopard disk to install it
will not boot from leopard disk.
tried safe boot, then doulble click install leopard, restart, then the saga repeats with the pixely red square around the wheel.
these are fresh drives with only what came on instll disk loaded.
thanks again for taking an interest.
i love this system(well at least i did). I want to install leopard on my powerbook too but am terrified to do so right now since it is working and I have work to do. Can't afford to have no computer to do my work on...self employment is great?!
This is making me crazy. I anxiously await your words of wisdom.

  • Macbook won't turn on...sleep light blinking

I am working on my sister's macbook, and I just installed new RAM and a new battery. I followed the instructions to a T and everything went fine until I tried to reboot. Now, all it does when I power up is it seems to go into sleep mode. The front light blinks, and the screen remains black. Any ideas on what is going on? I have tried putting the old RAM/battery back in and the same thing happens.
Please help...i need to fix it so she doesn't kill me!

You're probably not getting the RAM modules seated tight enough. The can go in real hard.

  • MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

The MIFI4620LE Jetpack does not work without a battery installed, even when connected to an external power supply.
I personally think that was a dumb design. I would think the unit would use more electricity when continually charging the battery than just powering the unit it's self, but that's the way Novatel made them.
If your Jetpack works with the battery installed and connected to an external power supply, but does not power on with power supply disconnected, I would say that the battery is defective or worn out.
You should be able to go to a nearby Verizon Store and have them either test the battery or put a new one in it to see if it works. Then you will know if you need to spend the $$ for a new battery. OR if you always use your Jetpack at home, or in your car, just use the old battery connect to a power supply or your cigarette lighter and save the cash.
As the Customer Support person stated, the slow blinking amber light is a normal state when the Jetpack is turned on and connected to Verizon's service.
I hope this solves your problem.

  • Fast blinking light! What does it mean?

The other day I shut down my computer. (Intel iMac matte screen, 10.4.11) Later, when I pushed the restart button, I failed to get a bong & the sleep light started blinking rapidly & bright. For a number of times I held down the restart button to get it to shut down, & then pressed it again to restart...same blinking light. (I've never seen this behavior before) I managed to finally get it to restart by double clicking on the restart button, but I don't even know why I tried that.
    Anyone know what's up?
    Bob

    Hi Bob
That sounds like a ram problem!
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303083
Perhaps one of your modules has dislodged and need to be reseated, or is failing.
    1. Try reinstalling-reseating both modules, firmly pushing on each one with both thumbs then close the ejector clips.
    2. Then if it still acts funny, try installing one module at a time.

  • 2011 MacBook Pro-Sleep light blinks 3 times, doesn't start

Hi there, I was just given a 2011 MacBook Pro 15'-8GB RAM, 2.2Ghz...the medium spec'd model if I am correct.  It worked fine for a little while, but now whenever I plug it into power, it does one of two things.  Either it attempts to come on, hard drive spins up...and then the sleep light flashes 3 times and it powers down.  OR, as soon as it gets plugged in it powers cycles indefinately until I unplug it.  The sleep light comes on for maybe a second, and the hard drive spins up, then it shuts back off and repeats this until I unplug it.
Nothing has been changed from it's stock configuration to I am relatively sure that it isn't a simple RAM problem.
    Any help is appreciated.
Please note that I have already tried things like clearing the SMC and reseating the RAM.

    Means bad memory.

  • After Lion install, Mac won't sleep (no pulsing sleep light)? This worked for me!

I know there are a plethora of suggestions out there as to how to correct the no sleep light issue since installing Lion. I tried every single one of them-- PRAM and SMC resets, looking for "little snitch" and other apps, and even trashing a preferences folder. None of them worked for me.
This is what did work. APPLE! Listen up!
    1. Unplug the magsafe power cord from the computer now or in step 3.
    2. Close lid to laptop.
    3. Unplug magsafe power cord.
    4. Wait a few seconds.
    5. Watch as the sleep light begins to pulsate.
    6. You can now reattach the magsafe power cord, if you'd like. It doesn't affect sleep mode for me.
After doing this, I open the lid to my MacBook and it's like old times. It takes the display a second or two to come on as it wakes from sleep. It's exactly how it should be.
I hope this helps for most if not all of you, and I hope that Apple quickly determines how to fix this problem with Lion.

Yup, pmset -g assertions will let you know what's preventing your computer from sleeping.
As for AC vs battery, there are 3 profiles for sleep conditions - AC, battery, UPS. Use the "man pmset" command to see more details. Depending on which profile is active, different conditions may or may not prevent system sleep.
I also made a small app to help with diagnosing the problem, if anyone is interested. Source code is provided. If you don't trust it, just use "pmset -g assertions".
    Hope Apple fixes it soon.

  • I just installed iPhone 11 and when I try to play a slide show, it just blinks and and shows the whole group of pictures at once. I have done many slideshows with older versions of iPhoto. How can I fix this?

I just installed iPhoto from the iLife 11 and when I try to play a slide show, it just blinks and shows a whole bunch of pictures at once. I have done many slide shows with no problem in an earlier version of iPhoto. What can I do to fix this?

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. Are u just trying to get the creative people saying "oh man we lost another one to ipod" cuz i'm sure they don't lose sleep over u wanting to buy an ipod instead of a zen. *done ranting*

  • SLEEP LIGHT NOT BLINKING

    Hello All,
I have had my black Macbook for almost 4 years now. Recently, when my computer is in sleep mode, I noticed that the sleep light is not blinking. It isnt even coming on. It seems to be sleeping and nothing is running, its just that the light does not come on. What does this mean? I wanted to know what I could do to solve this problem. Any help would be appreciated!
    -J

As it sounds like sleep is working properly and just the indicator is not flashing, try resetting your System Management Controller:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US
If you scroll about half way down the above page, you'll see the types of things that resetting the SMC may cure (generally power related). Just be sure to follow the instructions for your particular machine as they vary from machine to machine.
