Just installed newest update. Prompt says it failed to install correctly, now it won't recognize my ipod. Trying to avoid the suggested "fix" of uninstall/installing itunes all over again.

I just installed the newest itunes update. An error message says it did not install the software that communicates with the ipod correctly. It suggests re-installing itunes. Can I avoid that hassle?

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to 'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)

Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Well yesterday I finally broke down and called apple service... I spent $29 and 1.5 hours on the phone, but the operator was finally able to fix my ipod. There was an issue with the itunes update, and it had corrupted. After uninstalling, installing, and updating several drivers, programs, and resolving other issues, my iPod finally works. Even better, the operator gave me a way to contact him again if I am having issues, free of charge. I would have much rather fixed this myself without spending the additional money, but I'll admit there was no way I could've done what he did, as there were certain orders to uninstalling Apple programs. My advice? Bite the bullet and call. They will get your iPad working again. (:

Updated iTunes to 10.3.1 and now it won't recognize my iPod

I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version, and now it won't recognize any of my apple products. I have a first gen iPod touch, 4th gen. ipod nano and 5th gen. ipod nano. The ipod does work still, and is chargeable through a dock or a AC adapter. I've gone through all of the five Rs and reinstalled itunes, and nothing is working. My ipod won't show up in windows either. When I plug in my 5th gen nano, windows says the driver did not install sucessfully and itunes won't even acknowledge I've plugged it in. Any help would be fantastic, I'd really appreciate it. I put new music on my ipod all the time, and not being able to do so *****.

ITunes won't recognize my iPod. I have the Apple Mobile Device USB driver installed in my programs but it doesn't show up in my Device Manager or Services. Can someone help?

So I connected my iPod to iTunes and an error message came up saying it needed an updated version of iTunes 64 bit and I was missing the Apple Mobile Device USB driver so I downloaded it because another discussion said that was the solution. However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

I want to upgrade, not install intunes all over again!

Heres the thing, me, i'm perfectly happy with an outdated version of itunes, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, however all my movies and TV shows have disippeared from my 30g ipod video and i'm assuming the outdated version is why. I clicked to find updates and i'm brought to a page asking me to install itunes all over again, not just update. Help?

As with most programs, when you update them, the "Old" version has to be removed in order for the new program with its new files to be installed.
When you download the "New" version of iTunes and start installing it, It will detect the "Old" version you have, automaticly remove it and place the new updates to your PC.
When the old version is removed you will not loose any playlist, Music, Ratings ect ect. You can remove iTunes, then reinstall it urself and still not loose any music or have it deleted.

Thank you Alan and know you are right. I really can do all I need with my netbook and ereader and do not need the ipad. I think I just wanted something new and felt I may enjoy using it a lttle more than the netook. But it would be a waste just to buy one when I donlt acutally need it And, donl't think it is worth the extra money for me the get the 4g wireless capability since I doubt I would really need it often.
I may treat myself to the Ipad for the color, touchpad and fun to use but it is very expensive considering how little it will do for me no more than the things I want it for. It woudl be and expensive luxuray, I can do without. I actually need t learn how to use more of the function avaiable first. Maybe I should take up playing games and learning to take digital pictures so I can at least load them. If I could learn to do that and take a decent picture, I could start selling back all the "stuff" I have purchased on ebay. haha - I do have a nice doll collection, I would like to sell. I just do not have room for anything else. That was the primary purpose for the Kindle Ereader I bought and enjoy so much,
But, I will hold onto the thought for a while and see how it goes and what other comments I get, If I think I cannot live without it, then I will have to rethink which one to buy, I coud get the 32 g if I did not have to pay for the 4g wireless. And, if I knew I could get help to teach me how to use and enjoy all the functions, I would give it more serious consideration. My granddaugther got one for Christmas and that was what got me interested in it. I love the size of the screen and it had good color and was fast. She even had an application where she could write her notes and it would convert into typed words. That was a neat feature, If you could print it?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
