Just learning my track pad; viewed tutorial; when I click a link, message comes up,"open in new window," etc. How to stop messages?

I'm just learning how to use my Track Pad on my MacBook Pro, running iOS 10.9.4. I viewed the tutorial, which helped a lot , but still, when I click a link at odd times (I haven't figured out what triggers it yet) a small window with options such as, 'open in new window' opens up. It doesn't happen all the time. I just want the link to  click through without having to  deal with the message. When I click it several times, I may finally get it so the link just opens. How can I avoid those messages?

  • When I click a link it won't open up another window, what do I do?

    There is a website I use for my business and when I select several items on the main page to produce a report nothing happens. On my old pc the report would open in another window. Nothing happens with my new macbook pro. Why won't the report open?

    ", what do I do?"
    Give us more info to the problem
    Is the report in another browser window or different application?
    In the General Safari Preferences there are options for link behavior.
    What type of file are the reports in? html, pdf, .xls ?
    What website? Is it internal at your work?
    etc.
    I am sure someone can help with just one or two bits of extra info.

  • Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.

    Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.
    And I thought the whole point of an App Tab was to always have those tabs there no matter what window is open all the time period.
    It's a minor complaint but I would really appreciate the option to permanently have them there.

    I thought that app tabs would be more persistent, like pinning programs to the taskbar in Windows, but this is not the case.
    Instead, once you close a Firefox window, all its tabs and app tabs are lost.
    Essentially, this means that the close button in the upper-left corner of a Firefox window is now a "kill all open tabs and loose all App Tabs without warning++ " button. That is not cool.
    I realize that "Firefox > Quit Firefox" behaves as intended, but many people use the more obvious red close button instead of the menu to close windows on a Mac. And it is easy to forget that the red button is now also an app-tab-death button. I've lost my app tabs many times to this issue. It is an unforgiving user interface decision which hampers the usability of app tabs. Why should I go through the extra clicks of setting up app tabs if I can loose them so easily?
    Ideally, App Tabs could be saved separately from the currently open windows (perhaps create an option to save then to a special Tab Group that opens on startup?). App tabs would be exceedingly useful to me if they weren't so easy to loose.
    On that note, saving Tab Groups would also be a useful functionality.
    ++ You will get a "closing multiple tabs" warning if you have only one window open, and that one window has multiple non-app tabs open, and you have enabled the warning in Preferences. But this too unreliable to help prevent the loss of app tabs.

  • When I try to follow a hyperlink, Firefox opens a new window that stays blank.; also I can't download a hyperlinked file.

    I recently bought a laptop that is equipped with Windows 7. I needed new drivers for my Canon printer and was able to locate the new software on their website. When I tried to activate the hyperlink, Firefox opened a new window with the proper address in the "window". however the window stayed blenk. Similar actions with IE yielded desired results.
    I got the same "dead end" when I tried to download a form from Mozilla; again IE worked fine.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Thank you the-edmeister.
    I downloaded the menu editor extension but I can't open it.
    Searching on the web for something to open it I get the message from the windows website:

  • In Safari I can define what pages are loaded when I open a "New Window". How do I achieve the same in Firefox (and supress the current begavior of it opening all of the tabs that I defined as my home page all the time)?

    I am returning to Firefox after having used Safari on Mac for the past year. One thing I liked about Safari was that I could define what page gets loaded when I used the File Menu command to open a new Browser Window. I defined this as opening up with my Bookmarks Menu where I then was able to select the page I wanted to go to.
    I have not been able to find a way to define this in Firefox and was surprised to see that "New Window" in Firefox opens all of tabs that I've defined as my Home Page.
    Is there a way to manage this?

    This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • After a recent Windows Update my Bookmarks Toolbar no longer automatically appears when I open a new window. How do I reset this?

    Windows automatically updated my computer a few days ago and now when I open a Firefox window my Bookmarks Toolbar does not automatically appear at the top of the window. I can get it to appear there manually but I have to do it each time I open a window. Is there a way to reset it so that my Bookmarks Toolbar appears automatically at the top of the window every time I open a new window?

  • Firefox 3.6.13 - Why, when I use the dropdown File menu to open a new window, does FF open my Home Page tabs? All I want is a blank page.

    I have four tabs in my home page:
    2 - https://mail.google.com/mail/;
    1 - http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch;
    1 - http://www.facebook.com/login.php
    When I use the "File" drop-down menu I want only a blank page, but I get the four tabs. How go I get other New Windows to open as blank pages?

    A new window open by default with the Home page(s), tabs open a blank page.
    The only ways to avoid opening a new window with the home page is either to set the home page to about:blank (ie disabling the home page) or use a bookmark with the location set to about:blank and use Shift + left-click to open that link in a new window.

  • When I right-click on a link, can I have "open in new window" first, like it used to be?

    I prefer to open in new window when I right-click on a link. In this new version of firefox, open in tab is now on top. Can I have open in new window the first of the options?

    You can rearrange the menu items with the Menu Editor extension.

    For the Google website you can set preferences on the Google results page via the gear icon in the top right corner, click that button to open the menu list and select Search settings.
    * http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en
    Where results open: Open search results in a new browser window.
    You can set the Boolean pref <b>browser.search.openintab</b> to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to open the search results page in a new tab when doing a search via the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar.

    I have recently upgraded firefox, but this issue began yesterday, before the upgrade. I was hoping the upgrade would correct it, no such luck.

    uninstalling the ask toolbar worked for me as well. i wish i would have looked here before I uninstalled the Beta version of Firefox 4.
