Just lost my iPhone 4. It was synced with my iPad. Will wiping data on iPad wipe it on iPhone too? How does "find my iPhone " help?

Just lost my iphone4. Had iOS 5. Had "find my iPhone"
Had several data in Evernote and Dropbox. No lock
Will wiping out data from iPad (synced with iPhone) wipe it from phone too?

As far as finding your phone goes, log onto icloud.com and use it to find the phone.  The phone needs to be turned on and still have battery power.  If it has been stolen, the thief can wipe the phone of information, so get on it ASAP.

If they aren't on icloud.com they are no longer in iCloud.  If you don't have another backup, I'm afraid they're gone.

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Just lost my iPhone

    Hi Everyone
I've just lost my iPhone, and I know someone's got it because I tried calling it initially and there was no signal, then after i went back to look where I'd lost it - and subsequently could not find it - I came home, rang it again and it rang and was then after a few rings disconnected.
Anyway - stopped the Sim card, and also locked the phone - UK customer so using O2 - they blocked the IMEI, and the customer service assistant said that it was impossible now for anyone to access details on my mobile - I mean I've got music, emails, pics of my kids, apps etc.
Can anyone in the Apple Hive mind reassure me that this is the case, I mean can the phone still be hacked and if so can they get into the details on there - mainly concerned about my contacts list, clients etc. and text messages and such.
Would be great if anyone could help.
    Cheers
    Mike

Hello, sorry to hear you've lost your phone but I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure it can be hacked (what can't be hacked given time?) to get your information but what have you got on there that's so sensitive? Unless you've got rude pictures, the Prime Ministers home number or your bank account details, you'll be pretty safe - If you have got any of this then I might worry a bit.
I imagine people rarely steal/find phones for the information on them, it's more likely it'll be reset and then used as a phone should be used.
I guess the worst that could happen is a few crank calls but I've lost phones before and this has never happened.
I hope this helps settle your mind somewhat.

Without enabling Find My Phone you can't do a thing.

  • Hi I've just lost my iphone and I don't have Icloud is there anyway to redeem my contacts

Hi I've just lost my iphone and I don't have Icloud is there anyway to redeem my contacts

    You have a few options...
    1. Hopefully you have done a backup in iTunes which would have stored your contacts
    2. Check the email account that you had on the iPhone.  For instance with Gmail there is a Sync Contacts option on the iPhone which if turned on, would have sent your contacts from your phone to the contacts in your Gmail, so check your email from a computer to see if they are there.
    3. Only other option I can think of is if you have an old phone with contacts still on it.

    Yes, windows to Mac too.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

how do you manage photos if you lose the computer your iphone was synced with?

Are you talking about photos that were synced to your phone? If so, the photo sync is one-way: Computer to phone. Apple makes no provision to extract these photos from your phone, you'll have to use third-party software to do so. Note: photos synced to your phone were reduced in resolution for display on your phone, there is no way to recover their full resolution.

  • HT4623 I just lost my iPhone 4, then someone picked it up & disable the tracking feature.

Note I just lost my iPhone 4, then someone picked it up & disable the tracking feature in iCloud.
If that person use this stolen iPhone, can apple store trackiong him & blocked him? or even reset the phone status to default. Serial # of this iPhone is 86107QW6A4T.
Note iPhone is now a very personal item in life, we may drop & lost, or even stolen or by attack to kinapped, strongly request Apple can do something to protect their loyalty customers & their image, no one can stole iPhone, no one can use something which not belong to them, once the device is registrate, only change with by actual owner's authorization whne them sell or gift.
Even your turn off the tracking feature of Find My iPhone, but we still can found by seria # with GPS founction. Is this against the law of privacy?

The phone can no longer be tracked by you if it's not signed into your apple id, not even by Apple. It can't be tracked by the serial number either.
The registration of the device can be changed by the person who has access to the serial number, which I know is unfortunate, but that's how it works.
It's against the law to steal an iPhone, for sure.
If the tracking feature of Find my iPhone is turned off, the device is no longer broadcasting a GPS signal. If someone were to sign into the phone with their apple id, it would then be trackable by them but by no one else
It's against Apple's Privacy Policy to access personal information on the phone unless they explicitly need it for troubleshooting purposes. This is unfortunately not one of those instances.
The best thing you can do is call your local law enforcement and report the phone as stolen

I think there are other third-party solutions but if you used none of them, you cannot track the iPhone...
Unfortunately you have to go the old school way and look for it

Apple care is if you brake it it's kind of like insurance on the phone. and i think you also get support for any questions you have.
Please do not respond if you're not sure of the answer.  In this care you've given completely ERRONEOUS information.
AppleCare extends Apple's 12 month warranty.  It is NOT insurance on the phone, and certainly does NOT cover accidental damage like breakage.
BTW, in this context you "break" the iPhone, not "brake" it.
    Thanks.
