Just need some simple stats :)

I've been using Microsoft's "Excel Lite" program for a few years. I don't even know what it's called, but its performance is more limited than Excel, which I've never used.
I've never used a mathematical formula in a spreadsheet. All I do is insert data, which I organize an save as a CSV file, which I then import into a database table. For example, I have a spreadsheet with information on the animal kingdom, arranged by class, order, family, genus and species, all coded by cell background color/pattern and various font styles.
To get to the point, there are two features I've grown to love that I have not found in any other spreadsheet, and I'd like to ask how Numbers compares...
1) Sortable columns - In "Excel Lite," you can sort as many as three columns at a time. If you highlight cells spanning twelve rows, you can sort by one, two or three columns, even if you've only highlighted a single column. You can also sort an entire column (or two or three columns) by simply highlighting an entire column. I discovered that you cannot do this in OpenOffice.org's spreadsheet. I forget the details, but it was clumsy to work with.
So how efficient is Numbers' sort feature? Can it sort three columns or just one? If I want to sort every row in a column(s), can I do so by simply highlighting the column, or do I have to specifically highlight every cell in each row and column I want to sort?
This is the single most important feature I'm looking for.
2) Cell/Font Attributes - OpenOffice.org's spreadsheet has a respectable number of cell background colors to choose from, but I like Excel's approach better. M$ allows you to choose various shades of each color, combine colors to create new colors and also choose background patterns, such as horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines. What scheme does Numbers use?
Here are a few more questions...
How many rows of data can you have in a Numbers spreadsheet? (I think my spreadsheet programs allows about 16,000, while I believe Excel allows 65,000.)
How much text can you insert in a cell? Unfortunately, I can't use my spreadsheet program for storing articles, because each cell will only accept the equivalent of one or two medium paragraphs. I don't expect any other spreadsheet to do better...I'm just wondering if Numbers does allow you to paste entire articles into cells.
I'm fascinated to hear that you can paste images into a Numbers document. Right now I'm organizing images I use on my websites into a spreadsheet, with separate columns for each image's ID, caption, text for the ALT tag, etc. It woul be nice if I could actually see a thumbnail of each image next to its ID and description, sort of like connecting a name with a face. Can you really do that? I would think the file size would be enormous if you were working with hundreds of images.
I assume you can save a Numbers document as a CSV file...right? Is there also a feature that allows you to publish a spreadsheets' content directly into a MySQL database table? (I understand OpenOffice.org has such a feature, though I've never tried it.)
Sorry for the long post. Any feedback on any particular question would be welcome. I HATE everything Microsoft, and I'm not even using Parallels on my MacBook Pro. The only M$ software program I covet is Excel, so I was elated to discover that there may be a worthy competitor out there.

Sorry, I didn't realize there was a free trial version. I just downloaded it, and my first impressions are WOW!
The sort feature is better than the sort feature on "Excel Lite." Just click "Sort and Filter" to bring up the little Sort dialog box. At first, it looks like you can only sort a single column. But clicking the little plus sign on the right opens additional columns. I don't know what the limit is, but it's certainly far more than three.
I also verified that you can paste very large amounts of text in a cell.
Unlike M$'s spreadsheet, there are no cell background patterns, but there are plenty of colors to choose from. Also, it appears that there are far more options for styling text.
I've only worked with it for a few minutes, but, for my purposes, Numbers rocks!

First question: Yes very much. You can write simple logic for reconnection. Also there is new feature called Smart Reconnect which you can use for this purpose.

Second question: - I am not aware of such plug-in personally but there are high chances that it might be available. But i want to know first how you want to achieve it - are you sub titles not embedded in movie itself or is it separate from movie content and if yes in what format. Even if one is not available for ready to use - i think developing one should not be big deal - it can simple as overlay on your client side which gets populated with text at runtime.

Please share some simple examples to startwith for Oracle ESB.
I need to understand, what are the files are created, once created an ESB project.
What is the use of the files how to edit them with out using JDeveloper.
Iam trying to create a simple example.
I would like to create a file which has only "HELLO" in that file, simple text file inside a folder "INPUT" in my c:\ drive.
I wanted to create a ESB service which picks up the file and add a string to it like "HELLO" + "ESB" and drop this file into "OUTPUT" folder in c:\ drive.
How do i do that. I tried to do it when i deploy the integration server connection is gettting hit badly. I dont see that connection any more and i dont see that connection in my JDeveloper.
I dont want to start with existing code.

Hi,
If you want to do it from scratch you can basically do the following:
Make sure you have created an application server and integration server connection in JDeveloper.
1) Create a new JDeveloper project of type ESB project.
2) Possibly add a ESB System/Group (open the esb file and click "Create System/Group") to group ESB projects.
3) Create an XML schema describing your input XML file. Probably one element of type xsd:string.
4) Create an example XML file which is well-formed and valid according to the XSD from step 3.
5) Create a new File adapter (inbound/read). A routing service is automatically created.
6) Create a new File adapter (outbound/write).
7) Create a routing rule in the routing service in which you invoke the write method of the outbound file adapter. Possibly add a transformation using the XSL mapper.
8) Deploy the ESB project to the server.
9) Drop your XML file (from step 4) in the directory in which the inbound file adapter is polling.
10) If it is ok, the file should be picked up, transformed and dropped in the outbound directory. A new ESB instance should be visible in the ESB console.
See what files are generated on the filesystem in each of the above steps.

[VIA] Just need some input on a problem I have

I need the experts on this forum to help me with a problem I have. The M/B (6590 KT4 Socket A) had a few problems a while see. Since that time I have not updated my PSU as advised so I expect some abuse for that .
Any way I managed in the to fix that problem as you can see. However a further problem occured which was that the PC ,at will , would restart - this ended being the reset switch which I disconnected and this has never happened since. Now I have another problem ! .
The PC will simply hang with no response at all. It seems only to happen when I am running the capture software. I have checked for updates and applied these to the program (hauppauges WnTV). This set up was running on another PC with a M/B (in my opinon) of inferior quality without a problem (I have since sold that PC).
I will admit I have not run the PC without this program running to see if that is the cause. However I just needed input on suggestions. My PSU is as I said earlier the same as before which is an X Pro 400w these are the shameful Voltage rails :
+5v = 35a
+12v = 20a
-5v = 0.5v
-12v = 0.8v
3.3v = 22a
5+VSB=3a
Also when the PC hung I got the following readings from PCAlert:
1.76 Vcore
3.3v = 3.26v
+5v= 4.97
+12v = 12.24
CPU temp = 44c
System temp = 38c
I must admit that the previous PC had a separate USB2 (which is how the Happauge unit connects) card whereas this PC I use the onboard card. I was also thinking about the RAM as it was one I bought from a computer fair (hears groans) - This is normally something I do not do.
Help input would be appreciated

If you have done, and nothing happens, it would show that the capture device/driver is giving problems. Is that USB device self powered or takes it's power from USB port ? It's running at USB 2.0 speed ? 22 A to 3.3v. rail is poor for your Mobo. You should post your complete PC specs.
I dont really have any other software than can do that. The USB device is powered by itself.

I believe you can set the Audio quality and the Frames Per Second (FPS) and I think that you can set the compression, If in doubt try it without compression and see if that works. ASA 5505 unable to access ASDM ( just needs some ports ope and FWDing setup)

I was able to access the ASDM launcher in the browser yesterday   via    https://192.168.111.1/admin and I was stuck there as the browser version says that my ASA image does not work with my ASDM version...      So i tried some trouble shooting and think that i may have changed the image to an image that does not exist.     (I'm not sure where it is that I would actually place that image either)    Now i am unable to access through the browser at all.
Anyways, I am ok with SSH/CLI and have been using my firewall in this manner.   I am walking into this companies current configuration and simply need to do the following:

This doesn't specifically answer your question, but if you want to get ASDM functionality back you need to load a newer version onto flash memory and then point the ASA to that with the configuration command:
asdm image disk0:/asdm-version.bin
You are running  ASA Version 9.0(2) so you need at least version 7 of ASDM to support that. Interestingly enough your "asdm image" statement in your config points to asdm-509.bin and you have asdm-631.bin and asdm-645.bin on flash. None of those will work. I suggest loading up asdm-721.bin and changing the asdm image statement accordingly. I am pretty sure a reboot is required after that is done.

Thanks for pointing me to the Logitech USB microphone(s). It was a week before I could get to the nearest store selling them (turns out, Radio Shack has them). Then of course, needed more time to try out the new mic. I ended up "upgrading" to the Logitech headset (ear phones & boom mic) - it works perfectly. I also find the boom mic gives much better fidelity - my voice recordings sound like I'm an announcer on NPR now.
Note to others seeking microphones for their Mac: get the USB connect type. The audio in-line on my Macs (past and present) gave "spotty performance" at best. With in-line audio connected mics, a Griffen iMic is usually needed to even get the mic to show up in "Sound" prefs. That device is merely a "USB simulator" of some kind - and I do not believe they last long enough to justify the $35 price.

Just need a simple mic - suggestions

Just got my Mac Pro 3 weeks ago so I'm getting around to lower-priority needs for it.
My experience with external microphones includes only "cheapies" I used on my eMac. The eMac seemed "bound to not" work with mics. I bought Griffin iMic for that but it only worked a few months (seems that's pretty common occurrence for iMics). So: I threw away those mics in disgust - too bad since I coulda tried them on the Mac Pro now.
Now - the (beautiful) monitor I bought for the Mac Pro came without built-in mic but I don't care because I "like" the advantage of being able to move the mic closer, farther, etc. Just want a mic for occassional use in recording tracks for home vids, etc. Even "semi-pro" equipment of this kind would be a waste for me.
Oh, I plan to just use QuickTime Pro for audio recordings: worked quite well when I could manage input to the eMac.
Any suggestions as to make / model, price, and source for "decent low-cost" microphones?

Just needed some clarification regarding the Viewer Builder and actually publishing your App...

If someone could let me know if my understanding is correct, that'd be a huge help... So I've designed my publication in InDesign and exported the .zip file from the Folio Producer. I've created all of my certificates/splash screens/icons. Lastly, I just recently went through the steps of the Viewer Builder. I'm now at the stage of this process that requires me to purchase the $395 single edition so that I can enter the serial number in the last stage of the Viewer Builder. Now, to my knowledge, once I get the serial number, Viewer Builder will then give me access to an .ipa file and a .zip file. The .ipa file is for me to test on my iPad, and the .zip would be used to distribute to the App Store. I guess this is where I get confused... Let's say after I test the .ipa on my iPad, I don't like some part of my publication. I know how to update my own documents obviously, and I understand that I would have to export another .zip file from the Folio Producer, in turn requiring me to edit the exported folio link in the Viewer Builder. If I had to do that, would I need to purchase another single edition serial number since the original App was edited? Or would the same serial number apply since I'm editing that same App in the Viewer Builder? My next question is somewhat similar. Let's say all of the information is up to date and I go ahead and publish the App to the App Store. However, maybe a month later or some time in the future, I needed to update a phone number or email address--some little detail like that. Again, I understand that I'd have to update the export link in the Viewer Builder, but would I then need to create a new app since my app was already published? Would I then have to purchase another $395 single edition serial number just so that I can update my information? This seems to be the only thing in this whole process that I could use some clarification on so that I don't run into any surprises in the future. Any help would be great, thanks!

Hi Joshua,
When you have purchased the serial, you can rebuild your app with your updated content, as long as you use the same bundleID (applicationID), that is tied to your Apple mobile provisioning profile. The serial number is valid for a one year period.

Need some simple help..

Basically what Im trying to do is write something that can repeatedly list in integers until a sentinel of 0 is entered, where it would then go on and do whatever is next. As simple as I thought it would be, I've been stuck on doing that for hours. Although I am still a java noob, it sounded easy at the time :/
Anyway, heres the code I've managed to get after about the 6th or 7th write and rewrite stage now. It may not make too much since given how I can't seem to do much with it in the first place.

XML Parsing. Just need some guidance.

This is my project. I need to be able to read in XML code in my java program and then do necessary tasks such as updating my oracle database with the values. I heard and looked at the java API for that but Im not so sure xml parsing is the correct words that I should be using. Does anyone know of a way to do this or at least somewhere that I could go look for an example.

What you are looking for is either SAX (Simple API for XML) or DOM (Document Object Model).

Just need some info

IMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues...i read the page that tells how i would now that there is a problem with the Video/Power issues. My serial # is off by 2 digits and I bought my iMac in July but it might have been on the shelf for longer than that.
Also, I was watching a DVD earlier on the computer today and when i was ejecting the DVD the screen had some horizontal lines or some kind of distortion for about 5 seconds. It's all fine but would this make it eligible for the Repair Extension Program.

You just bought the machine and from what I can gather its starting to manifest some video problems. I wouldn't worry about the extension I would take it back and get it taken care of plus buy Apple care.

Im trying to find a simple client-server example, where i can put the client on one laptop, server on the other and pass messages from the client to the server.

Newbie needs some simple help on triggers

Hi there. I need to create a trigger and am very new to this language and would love some help.
I have tables STUDENT, BOOKS, BORROWING.
When a student borrows a book, a composite entry is created in the BORROWING table. In the Books table, their is an attribute 'Borrowed' with a Y or N.
When a new record with the same Title as a book is created in borrowing, the value of 'borrowed' needs to be set to Y. So far I have the following, but forgot that I need to insert a WHERE clause so that it doesnt update every book, but only the book that causes the trigger.
I am having trouble with this- how would i go about doing this? Any help appreacited...
