Just Ordered a Mac Pro & 24" LED Display

Neither item states that it comes with a video cord to hook the two together. One of the options while configuring my Mac Pro was to get a video cable.
Do I need to buy one? (Or does one come with either the display or MacPro)
If I need to buy one, which one do I need?
Thanks,
Tom

The monitor is going to come with the cable:
One cable with three connectors: Mini DisplayPort, MagSafe, USB 2.0

  • Just ordered a Mac Pro MD770LL/A. Is there a DVI-D cable included?

I just ordered a Mac Pro MD770LL/A. Is there a DVI-D cable included? I have a Sony monitor with a DVI-D input so I assume I would need a DVI-D to DVI-D cable. Is this correct? Thanks.

The assumption is that the required cable is shipped with your display. Many displays have traditionally used a captive cable that is not removeable.
If your display is wider than 1920 wide, you will need a "Dual-Link" DVI cable. Dual-link means that the data lines are doubled to support wider displays -- it has nothing to do with Dual Displays.

  • Just ordered a Mac Pro, A few questions

I just ordered a Mac Pro, with a few options from apple, and some parts from Newegg. I just have a few questions.
    What webcam should I get?
I have 3 500 GB HDD's one for OSX, one for Vista and one for Time Machine. Is there a way to make the OSX drive and windows drive play nice (read/write access) with each other?
How hard is it to set up boot camp?
What does it take to prepare the DVR-115 to be added? Does the front face plate have to be removed?
I'm sure more will come up, so I'll keep asking

Vista will format its drive using NTFS which is a read-only filesystem to OS X. You will not be able to exchange files across the OS X and Vista drives. You can install third-party software in Vista to enable read/write of Mac drives - MacDrive by MediaFour.
Boot Camp setup is quite easy. You already have it so open the Boot Camp Assistant and click the button to print out the documentation.
Installing the extra optical drive is done inside the MP box. There's a mounting tray and assembly. There's an Apple manual for the installation: Optical Drive Carrier Replacement Instructions.

  • I have just ordered a mac pro , will this be ok for some app development work ?

I am very new , had pc's all my life and expecting my first mac next week , I have wanting to get into app development and really wanted to know if the mac pro will be able to cut it ?

    Sure, no problem.
Be sure to max out the physical ram and use a fast hd. Also hang as many monitors on it as you can...the bigger the better.
    Good luck.

  • Just Bought a Mac Pro... Question about an upgrade

So I just got my mac pro home... 2.66, 5gig, 250gig, 23 apple screen.
Absolutly love the machine. blazing fast and it does everything.
I put windows on it with bootcamp and wanted to try a serious video game on it to test how it handled it.
I was pleased but not thrilled with the results. The game ran great on the settings the game put the game at. But when I started to turn the res and details up... I turned it up to the max (ps this was the new hitman game). It loaded the game, and the game looks amazing, but its choppy as heck.
The video card that I have in there is the GeForce w/ 256 ram on it.
My Question is... can I send that video card to apple and have them give me a bigger video card with me only having to pay the difference?
If thats a no, since the website store allows for multiple video cards in the computer, could I just add another more serious video card ontop of the one thats in there to increase the graphics capabilities of it?
    All is is appreciated.
    Michael
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Apple will not exchange the video card with an upgraded one. The only way to do this would have been with a build to order. Your best bet is to put that card on eBay and buy the new X1900 XT. The standard card in the MacPro isn't really designed for gaming but the X1900 is the best there is right now.

It sounds like it is time to restore from the backups you made just before making the disk changes.
You can re-partition and restore your backups.  If you didn't make backups first (you were warned that it might damage things and to make sure you had a good backup) then you will need to repartition everything and reinstall from scratch...

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Just Got My Mac Pro: Initial Response

I've been a Windows user my entire life and ordered a Mac Pro for film editing because I wanted something stable.
The computer arrived today and I was very impressed when I first unboxed the machine - impressed with the looks and the ease of adding my seperate hard drive I bought for it.
However on turning on the machine I was very dissapointed at how inaccurate the mouse pointer is. I thought it could be tied to the wired mighty mouse that came with it so I hooked up my logitech optical from my windows machine and that was not much more accurate on the Mac.
I thought it might be an issue tied just to my own Mac but then I mentioned the issue to a friend of mine whose parents have a Mac and he said he experienced the very same thing when he first used their Imac (he is also a Windows user).
Has anyone else noticed this? There is no doubt the accuracy of my logitech mouse on my windows machine is much more accurate than on my Mac Pro. On my Mac Pro if I move the mouse around fast there is no problem. The problem comes when I am trying to put the pointer on a very small area, like the red x to close the window - then it can be tough to put the pointer in the right place.

    "I have no clue what
you guys mean by a difference in accuracy. " I mean, say I want to quickly put the pointer on the very bottom of the Y on the "post Message: Reply" that I'm looking at now as I reply to this message. On my windows machine I can put the tip of the mouse pointer right on that small point in just one try. If I try to do the same with Mac Pro, it takes me 2 or three tries. As I bring in the pointer and try to put it on the very small area, the accuracy starts to go out the window, and sometimes very suttle moves of the mouse do not move the mouse pointer at all.
If lasers are supposed to be very precise then I will try one of those at some point. Really there seems to be no other solution. I'll probably go to Microcenter and try the mouse on their Mac Pro to see if theirs does it. I worked on their machine a little before I bought mine and don't recall any issues with mouse movement on their machine, so maybe this is tied to just a small number of machines.
And yes, I have also seen threads of this issue elsewhere as well for one here:
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/OperatingSystems/Macintosh/Q21450924.html?query=mousemovesslow&topics=22
What this guy is describing pretty much mirrors what I'm experiencing.
This is the second such topic I have seen on this
issue, and I am totally puzzled. I have no clue what
you guys mean by a difference in accuracy. I suggest
getting a Laser mouse if you are experiencing
problems with an Optical. You should also try turning
the mouse sensitivity all the way down, that should
greatly help accuracy. Despite being a gaming mouse
the DPI adjustments on the G5/7 are quite useful in
creative apps as you can adjust the speed of the
    pointer on-the-fly.
I just don't get the problem :S your example: "The
problem comes when I am trying to put the pointer on
a very small area, like the red x to close the window
    - then it can be tough to put the pointer in the
    right place. "
On 2000 DPI I have no problems hitting the x and that
should be the hardest due to the extreme speed.
In any case don't click the x, that's the newbie
way... use apple-w to close windows and apple-q to
    quit apps.

  • I just got my Mac Pro repaired from Apple but I am experiencing the same issue: Screen freezes and shows funny rectangular bars. I shut it down manually and when I try to turn it back on it beeps 3 times. I know its the RAM but is there a way I can fix it

If you just got it back and it isn't fixed or something else is wrong with it take it back and have them do the repair correctly.

  • Since purchasing my Mac Pro with retina display, I can no longer change the preferences on MP Navigator for Canon MX870. Help?

Since purchasing my Mac Pro with retina display, I can no longer change the preferences on MP Navigator for Canon MX870. I can change them on my old Mac Pro with Lion, but not the new one. I can scan but I can't save it to a folder on my hard drive. I can only let it default to a back up date folder. Tried all sorts of things to change the preferences and folders, nothing worked. Ideas?

To prevent your iPhone from automatically syncing when you plug it in, click on iTunes in the menu bar, then preferences, then "devices", then tick "prevent iPhones, iPad's and iPod's from syncing automatically".
Plug it in, then on the iPhone sync summary screen, click "info" along the top.
Make sure the "sync contacts" option is not ticked. as long as it's not ticked, then it won't sync with your mac's contacts but will still include them in backups.
Also, if you use iCloud, make sure that the iPhone/mac are either not signed into the same account, or that "contacts" is not turned on for both of them

  • Running Photoshop CS 6 on my Windows 7 desktop and now I just purchased a Mac Pro laptop

    I just purchased
a Mac Pro laptop and would like to run Photoshop CS 6
I currently am using my desktop which is Windows 7 what is the best way to purchase a license for my laptop

Photoshop CS6's perpetual license does not allow you to run on both operating systems.
You could subscribe to this, which DOES support your running the software on both platforms:

  • Had it with Dell, just ordered a Mac Mini

For a number of reasons (that are so boring it will likely kill anyone who reads them so I won't post them here) I am going to throw my 6 month old top of the line Dell XPS in the pool.
I just ordered a Mac Mini and I can't tell you how happy I am. However I was wondering if there is anything I should expect, we warned of when I make the conversion.
Are there any problems I should expect?
How hard is it to get my "Stuff" from a pc to a Mac?
Will I be able to read/use my excel and word files?
Will the Mac work with my Dell monitor? It's a pretty nice monitor 27" inch monitor, and besides the fact that it has the Dell name on it there's nothing wrong with it. I've seen a couple of posts here that people are unable to connect the Mac to a TV through an HDMI port.
After getting the iPhone I knew that I had to make the move to Apple and I can't wait. Any info would be appreciated.

    Welcome!
Most word processing and spreadsheet and photo files could be easily moved by putting them on an inexpensive USB "thumb" or "flash" drive. That's how I would transfer them. Or you could burn them to a CD or DVD on your DELL.
Your Mini should have a trial version of Mac MS Office 2004. It should be able to open most of your PC files, depending on how you saved them. MS will be coming out with a newer Mac version early next year.
A free option that would open just about all of them (and more than Office 2004 can) is NeoOffice ( http://neooffice.org ). That's what I use.
If your Dell monitor has a VGA or DVI port it should work fine, unless it requires a Dual Link card to drive it. What model is your monitor?
The new Minis now come with 1 Gig of RAM which is adequate for OK performance. If you ordered 2 Gig, multi-tasking will be snappier.
