Just picked up my Macbook Pro (Oct 24th) to find that it keeps freezing on me - only way out is to crash it via the power button. No particular pattern to it. It can happen on opening, or clicking on Safari - or when it's backing up on the TC. Ideas?
Picked up my new Macbook Pro Retina display on October 24th (2013). It runs Mavericks. Keeps freezing on me - with no pattern to it. Sometimes when it's backing up, sometimes when it opens, sometimes when I click on Safari. Only way out of the probelm is a crash shut down using the power button. Nothing else works. Anyone found a fix to this yet?

Safe Mode deletes some system caches that may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

Every morning when I "awaken" my MacBook Pro, I come to find that my Safari browser has been closed on it's own. How to fix this? I don't want to lose anything I have possibly typed in a site that I have left to finish working on for later. I checked system preferences and everything seems to be checked appropriately as well as for Safari's preferences.
I am not sure what's going on, because Safari only just recently started doing this and I haven't downloaded anything, nothing out of my regular computer routine. As well, I upgraded to Mavericks when it came out and I have the last version of it too. I can't imagine that Safari would close simply because I don't have or want to upgrade to Yosemite. I am holding off on the upgrade for a bit, because I heard Final Cut Pro 7 can't be run on Yosemite. While I could partition my drive, I really don't want to. Mavericks is fine for right now : )
Okay sooooo...back to Safari...what the! Please help and thanks for any replies ahead of time!
I Hope All Is Well In Your World : )
NynaThere's an Apple help page on the DNS problem - at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408
The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
Network section.
In Network - click on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
either these, from google dns
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
or from OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport) -
i accidentally pushed the power button of my macbookpro... it restarted but doesnt open... what appears now is a flashing FOLDER logo with a QUESTION MARK on it.. can someboby help me to fix this?
(Assuming you don't have a firmware boot lock set)
First easy step...
1. Shut down the computer if it's on (hold the power button down... until it shuts off)
2. Press the power button
3. Immediately press AND hold the Option key ASAP
Hold until drive option images appear in a single row across the screen. Typically most people running 10.7 or 10.8 will see 2 drive options to boot from: the main volume they usually boot from, and a recovery volume. If your main volume pops up. Use the cursor or arrow keys to highlight/select the main volume and press enter. That should boot your main volume. Let me know what you get from this point... I'll give you more as you go along. -

What can I do! I know servers are busy but if its installing right now before the restart it means its finished downloading from apple servers so I don't understand why it has been installing with two minutes remaining for a really long time now :[ I'm afraid ill lose all my files if I do a hard turn off.
Thank you guys for your help! You may have no choice. If you hear no disk activity, you can hold down Command-Control-power button to force a restart. It should pick up where it left off.

I tried out the Lapcool 3 but it barely does anything for the temp. Is there a setting in my computer where I can up to fans or something?
As the MBP's instruction manual told you when you read it right after unpacking your computer, you shouldn't use it on your lap because it is indeed possible to burn yourself. Resting the computer on any soft surface, including your lap, impairs its ability to cool itself effectively and will cause it to run hotter. It needs to be on a hard, flat surface that allows air to circulate underneath it, since the entire case is acting as a heat sink.
There are third-party fan control hacks you can install, and they'll enable you to increase the minimum fan speed and cause the fans to speed up sooner as the machine's temperature increases. I don't recommend using any of them, and I don't know whether they have been updated for compatibility with Lion yet. -
I just got a new macbook pro (my other one stopped working). I am trying to sync the music on my iphone to my new mac's itunes library. I've clicked sync in iTunes but it doesnt work. how can i do this? I don't want it to delete everything from my phone or old computer.

You don't need to delete anything from your phone or you old computer.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer or backup to /Music/ on new computer.
If you cannot use the old computer or don't have a backup...
-> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Then immediately make a backup of your new computer.
Get an external drive and plug it in and use -> Time Machine -
Again,
My macbook pro just frooze while on-line. I got the rainbow wheel spinnin and it wouldn't stop I tried to do a force quit and I was unable to do that. So I held down the power button. Now when I try to restart it I can't get by the while page with the apple symbol on it. All I have is the grey circle spinning continuosly like it is working. I tried a command S when I started it back up and checked the HD and rebooted, still can't get by the startup page. Any suggestions?I'm having the same problem. I started an automatic upgrade that then got "stuck" for hours. I did a hard shut down and now all I get when I try to reboot is the spinning wheel. I haven't done a backup in 3 months and can't afford to lose everything in a reinstall. Any suggestions?

Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow

I just bought a used Macbook Pro. How do I make the changes to make it personal. Example the iTunes comes up as the old user and I have to have his password to make changes on the laptop. Can you make any suggestions?
Also I cant make a right click on the pad. Is that normal?Your first going to have to remove all your personal data off the machine to a external storage drive, do not use TimeMachine when it asks as this will copy the entire drive and is unnecessary at this time (also takes too long).
You need to drag and drop copy your personal data folders (Music, Pictures, Movies etc) to a external storage drive, once done, unmount and disconnect this drive.
Most commonly used backup methods
Next your going to follow the Zero Erase and install method for your OS X version, either 10.6 or 10.7, here
How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
10.7 requires your AppleID and password to install, so make sure to have that ready.
Once you reboot your into the real setup of OS X, which will require your name etc, so it's now your machine.
Install your programs, iLife package is only free for the owner of the machine.
If you have the 10.6 machine specific disks, then it's on there.
If your using 10.7, then you'll have to purchase it from the App Store.
Last, return your files from the storage drive, consider setting up a TimeMachine or clone on the external drive. -
Hi, I have just purchased a new Macbook Pro. Whenever I try and buy anything on the internet (via Safari) on any website it will not allow me to add products to checkout. Has anyone else experienced this problem or can suggest a fix? Many thanks!
On all shopping sites, or only some? What happens when you try?

I just got a new MacBook Pro, and I tried to bring across my files from my last mac using time machine. After it was done copying I can't find my files anywhere but the space (about 130gb) has been used on my hard drive. Does anyone know how I can get to them? I did change my user name from 'user' while it was copying, could this have something to do with it?
You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant. If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.
If it came with Lion, it's a bit different: Using Setup Assistant on Lion -

I just dropped my new macbook pro on the ground, it dents a little. So can I bring it to apple store, and repair it for free? BTW: I bought it just one month ago. Thank you very much
No, user caused accidents are not warranty coverage, nor are spills, loss, theft etc.
all these user caused issues have no bearing on the warranty coverage.
they are outside of same.
All laptop mfg. are identical in this nature (same with your car too of course) -
I have just purchased a used MacBook Pro. Should I use a virus protection program on this computer? I can get Norton for free through my cable provider. Thanks, funkro
See my Mac Malware Guide.
This issue is more complex than some of the responses you have gotten are indicating. You definitely should avoid Norton, but there actually IS malware out there, and all anti-virus software is NOT "snake oil." Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise, as they don't know what they're talking about.
Although you should be able to do without anti-virus software just fine, there are some perfectly good reasons to install it and some good anti-virus apps to use if you decide to do so. Further, even if you do avoid anti-virus software, you need to understand what the threats are so you don't end up thinking you're totally safe and do something you shouldn't.
