Just question

i'm vodafone gsm customer from egypt using nokia 6630 mobile phone want to connect to internet via my mobile i call a customer service and help me to connect but via gprs (packet data)and during setytin the engneer told me if vpn present on my mobile i said no ,i download it later but i can't understand what is this and how i can use it? 2nd question i read in other forum the connection via internet using mobile modem not cost any billing or subtract from my credit but the setttings which i made cost me each 1kb =2pt ie 1 megabyte =20 egyptian pound its crazy!

the vpn client is used to connect you to a vpn.
a vpn is a virtual private network and can offer a secure connection amongst other things. however, unless you have a vpn server to connect to then it will be useless.
your second question makes no sense. everything you do regarding an outgoing actvitiy on the phone will cost you money, so if you call out to the internet on gsm or gprs its going to cost you. if you are unhappy with the price i suggest you look for a different network

  • ChannelSet vs Endpoint - RemoteObject (+ColdFusion!) - Just Questions

    hello,
I've been working with Flex for a few years now, and recently came across a discussion about channelsets versus the endpoint property in a remoteObject call. My questions are general, but I hope someone can shed some light on this issue:
    1. I have an application that is configured with ColdFusion as it's destination, and I'm using a remoteObject. When I specify a dynamic endpoint, I can simply deploy the application across all of my environments, without having to change services-config.xml or remoting-config.xml files. The opposite is true of a channelset; in a channelset it appears as if I have to change the services-config and remoting-config.xml files in order to get my application to work on my environments. With that in mind, why would I use a channelset here versus an endpoint?
    2. In the Adobe documentation for channelset, it states that Channelset is used in BlazeDS only (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/mx/messaging/ChannelSet.html). What does this mean? Is this only accessible because BlazeDS is built into ColdFusion? If I do not have BlazeDS available, what happens to the channel set?
    3. What types of applications would you use Channelset for? If you know the endpoint (e.g. www.yourwebsite.com/flex2gateway/secureamf), why would you use channelset over the endpoint property?
    Thank you for your help.

If you have access to your deployment server you can use the Flex compiler
settings if you don't then the best option will be to use the endPoint,
there is no significant downside or upside on this. You can write a single
bindable var and in this one set the value for endPoint

  • Questions about editing with io HD or Kona 3 cards

My production company is switching from Avid to Final Cut Pro. I have a few editing system questions (not ingesting and outputting, just questions about systems for the actual editors - we will have mac pros with either kona 3 or io HD for ingest and outputs)
    1) Our editors work from home so they most likely will be using MacBook Pros - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz 4GB computers with eSata drives to work on uncompressed HD, will they be able to work more quickly in FCP if they are using the new Mac Pro 8-Core (2 Quad-Core 2.8GHz Intel Xeon) or will the mac book pro's be able to hold their own with editing hour long documentaries, uncompressed HD
    2) Will having an AJA Kona 3 (if we get the editors mac pros) or io HD (for the mac book pros) connected be a significant help to the editor's and their process, will it speed up their work, will it allow them to edit sequences without having to render clips of different formats? Or will they be just as well off without editing with the io HD?
I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the necessity of the AJA hardware in terms of working with the editors to help them do what they have to do with projects that have been shot on many formats- DVCPro tapes, Aiptek cameras that create QTs and P2 footage.
    Thanks

    1. with the IoHD, laptops become OK working with ProRes and simply eSata setups. Without the Io, they can't view externally on a video monitor (a must in my book). It will not speed up rendering a ton, nor will it save renders of mixed formats. The idea is to get all source footage to ProRes with the Io, and then the Io also lifts the CPU from having to convert ProRes to something you can monitor externally on a video monitor, and record back to any tape format you want... all in real time.
    2. Kona 3's on Towers would run circles around render times on a Laptop... no matter what the codec, but the Kona does not really speed renders up. That's a function of the CPU and just how fast is it. (lots of CPU's at faster speeds will speed up render times).
I'd recommend you capture to ProRes with Io's or the Kona 3 and don't work in uncompressed HD. You gain nothing doing it quality wise at all. And you only use up a ton of disk space (6 times the size in fact) capturing and working in uncompressed HD, which from your post, you're not shooting anyway. The lovely thing about ProRes is that it's visually lossless, efficient, and speeds up the editing process. Mixing formats can be done, but it's better to go to ProRes for all source footage, and edit that way.
With either the Kona or the Io, you then can output to uncompressed HD tape... that's what they do for you no matter what codec you've edited in. ProRes is designed to be the codec of choice for all HD projects when you're shooting different formats especially... Get them all singing the same tune in your editing stations, and you'll be a much happier camper. Only reason to buy laptops is portability... otherwise you're much better off with towers and the Kona 3 speed wise.

  • Values are returned as question marks.

I have set up a UTF-8 database, on my english version of WinXP..
    SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS;
    .. shows this is correct - UTF8
I have set up NLS_LANG variable in windows, to be "American.America.UTF8"
Using SQL*Plus worksheet I can update a row in my database to contain chinese characters. I dont know what the chinese means, but I can copy and paste from another application, and the glyphs looks the same in the source and SQL*Plus worksheet.
I can then select the row ..
    SELECT * FROM THETABLE WHERE THECOLUMN = '{CHINESECHARS}';
The correct row is returned, but the column is shown with just question marks, instead of the glyphs I expect.
(This also happens with the web application I am developing which also seems to return qurestion marks. (PHP not JSP))
Can anyone shed any light on this problem as I am completely stuck.

Check these notes# 132453.1, 152260.1 & 158577.1 out on metalink also for further good details. This may/may not work for Chinese yet it should steer you
in the right direction.. It's the combination of the NLS_LANG and Active
Code page settings on the client as well as the database characterset. I believe you say the database character set is UTF8. That part should be correct. It's then the client side combo's that do the trick. It's trying differing combo's until he desired results are achieved. Having not worked with Chinese I can
give you an example of what I've experienced...
These are the following steps I performed to enable the client SQL*Plus (command line and GUI) and SQL*Worksheet to display/input the euro currency symbol correctly for example...
    1) Search from the top of the registry (regedit) for ALL occurrences of NLS_LANG and make the value AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252.
    2) Go to the following registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage\ACP
and change the active code page (ACP) to 1252. If there is an OEMACP entry there change that also to 1252.
    3) Reboot the PC
To test .. go to DOS and enter at the prompt..
    E:\>chcp
    Active code page: 1252
If the above message IS NOT 1252 you must have missed editting the registry entry
explained above. However you can change it for this session by entering
    E:\>chcp 1252
    - < Set font to Lucida Console (in Properties, Font tab) >
To get the UNICODE characters you want insert into the database do the following
    E:\>charmap
You will see a display of different characters.
If you click on advanced view at the lower right corner a search screen comes up. Enter UNICODE for the character set, ALL for group by and EURO for the search for and the euro currency symbol will come up. This is one way how the user can enter this character into the app. You can copy the character in this function as you can see and then you can paste it elsewhere. Copy whatever character you want to test with. My test was with the euro currency symbol.

  • Safari displaying question marks on images

    Hey guys,
i ran into a problem with my RSS Reader /GoogleReader/. As a fan of photography i have several photographers blogs in my RSS reader. In past two weeks noticed, that a lot of posts with single pictures keeps showing me just question marks and Safari does not load the picture. This happens on my PC where Safari is instaled.
Now the strange thing is, this happens on my iPhone aswel.
But the strangest thing is, home on my MacBook everything works just fine.
So-im not really figuring out where is ths problem. Is it my stupid PC, is it the iPhone, the Safari, the www? is there some way i could fix this? Is it matter of some preferences? I thought about some parrental issues, as some of the pictures contain nudity or are more or less provocative, but there are some architectural feeds that have the same problem.
Please, is there some way of having this fixed?
    Thank you
PS: here is an adress for you to judge http://www.terrysdiary.com/post/3362208209/photographers-outside-of-the-calvin-k lein-show
    i see just question marks

If you move, rename or delete the photos outside of the Organizer, you will get the question mark. So, don't do that any more. If you want to get rid of the question marks, you need to reconnect the photos, via File->Reconnect, or follow these instructions: http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Quickly_reconnecting_large

  • Questions about Groups Wheel & Admin

OK I have two systems. One is an iMac upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Its main hard drive has the following owner & group:
    Owner: "system" (Read & Write)
    Group: "admin" (Read & Write)
But on my Mac Pro's main drive it is like this:
    Owner: "system" (Read & Write)
    Group: "wheel" (Read & Write)
Note: The Mac Pro was a clean install of Snow Leopard from the full install disk, whereas the iMac was Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I have read in some places that in Snow Leopard they use "wheel" instead of "admin", but why would Apple choose to use such a cryptically named group as "wheel" when the use of a logical, sensical term such as "admin" would be much easier to understand to most users? Why is one Snow Leopard computer using the "admin" group whereas another is using the "wheel" group as the default group for the main hard drive? What is the correct group that the main boot drive should have for it (i.e. when you click on the hard drive on the desktop and do "get info" what should it say)?
I used Migration Utility to copy a user from my MacBook Pro to the Mac Pro. Then I logged in as Root on the Mac Pro and used this method (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428) to rename my user directory to be a new shortname, then create a new user with that shortname and point it at that folder (to fix some nagging permissions issues). Then I deleted the old user account. Then I renamed the new user account folder with the old shortname that it used to have, and created a new user with that name. But every time I create a folder it has the "Wheel" group... which seems like a security problem since anything I download into that folder will now be able to SU. Why would that be the default group?
In the old OS X (like 10.0, 10.1) there used to be "NetInfo Manager" where you could see all the users on a system and all the groups and change all that stuff, if you wanted to. In Leopard there was "Directory Utility" but it had much more limited features. In Snow Leopard, how do I pull up a list of all the users on a system and be able to edit their groups and all that stuff about them?

run the following command in terminal
    sudo chown root:admin /
you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal.
This will change the ownership on the hard drive to root:admin.
Why can't I just "Get Info" on the drive, and set its group to "admin" in there?
the whole GUI permissions management in Leopard and Snow leopard is very clunky and leaves a lot to be desired.
Can I just question why Apple has given us the ability to change the group in the "Get Info" box when really it doesn't do anything, and you still have to resort to using the Terminal and typing in non-plain-English commands that are merely relics of an operating system from 40 years ago that somehow still persists in our basement despite its lack of user friendliness?
what? SU?? wheel is the superuser group. by default only root belongs to it and nobody else. so having a wheel group on a folder does not create security issues.
what folders exactly have the wheel group? you home folder? as I said, folders created in any folder will inherit the group of that folder so maybe the wheel on your whole drive is doing this.
Well, even though I went into the "Get Info" box and took off "Wheel" from my root directory, still, when I make new folders on the root level of the drive, it creates them as being group "Wheel." Now, my understanding is that if I download a program and save it INTO that folder, then it would have the ability to execute as root because it will belong to the "Wheel" group -- am I not understanding this correctly? Thanks.
as I said, the GUI permission management is all messed up. you just keep running into various messed up aspects of it. this is another one. here is what happens.
when you remove a group completely from permissions using GUI it does not simply go away. it also incredibly changes to wheel.
you just don't see it because the permissions for the group are changed to none. so, for example, say, you have a file with the group staff and that group has read permissions to the file. you select that group in GUI permissions panel and use "-" to remove it. what should happen is that the group remains the same but it's permissions are set to 0. what does happen is that the group changes to wheel (which has group id=0) and its permissions are set to 0.
this is definitely a bug and a silly programming error. It's been around since Leopard. I reported it to Apple a long time ago.
so despite your hate of terminal and unix you are going to have to use them to fix the issue. get used to it. OS X is unix based and sometimes one has to use terminal to fix things. in this case there is no other way to do this. run the terminal command I gave you and it will fix the problem with new (but not already existing) folders at the top level of the hard drive. if you want to change the group on those you'll need to run similar commands for them too.

  • How do I combine my iCloud email address with my apple id?

To log into iTunes or my iCloud account I have to log in with a gmail address that I set up  7 or 8 years ago, but now I have an icloud account that I use for everything.  I have converted all my log ons to this iCloud account but for Apple of all places I have to log in using this gmail account which I do not use anymore.  Is there a way to combine the two?
    p.s.
I still love you Apple its just question!!!

You cannot combine two icloud accounts - if that's what you're asking.
You talk about an icloud account that has a gmail as its ID and then you say "now I have an account....",  is this a second account, not the same as the first one?  If so, you can't combine these two.

  • Would I still be able to fun Final Cut Pro with no problem with the new 13"

My old MBP has "NVIDIA GeForce 860M GT with 128MB" and the new 13-inch MBP has "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics" I don't really know what "GT" means, but the more expensive MBP's listed have it, so I'm guessing it's pretty good. I was wondering if I'd still be able to fun Final Cut Pro quickly if I got the new 13-inch MBP.
Back in 2007, the guy at the Apple store said I'd have to get a MBP instead of a MB if I wanted to fun FCP correctly, and now both the MB and MBP use the same graphics chip, so I'm wondering if FCP will still function correctly on the new 13-inch MBP?

    Eric wrote:
Incorrect about what? I never made any statements, just questions. According to the Apple store, the Macbook and 13-inch Macbook Pro both use the same chip, which is the only statement I made. And which is why I'm wondering if the new 13-inch MBP can even handle FCP since the MB can't (according to the guy in the Apple store).
Actually, your original question was formed as part of a statement:
now both the MB and MBP use the same graphics chip, so I'm wondering if FCP will still function >correctly on the new 13-inch MBP?
And that's the part that BoyHowdy pointed out that you are "a little incorrect" about. While it's true that they both have an onboard 9400M graphics chip, you are overlooking the fact that the 15" & 17" MBPs also have the much more powerful and dedicated 9600M GT graphics card. This is not an insignificant difference. Final Cut Pro, not to be confused with Final Cut Express (not you, others have confused the two), requires a dedicated card which the 15" & 17" MBPs have in the form of the additional 9600M GT, but the 13" still lacks.
The specs on the Final Cut Pro page are a little confusing because while it says it *will not work* with integrated graphics, it specifically refers to Intel, and does not mention Nvidia. However, it still says it requires an AGP or PCI Express card, which the 9400M is not.
My feeling is that even if it runs, the performance of Final Cut Pro on that system will be unacceptable, and will ultimately drive you mad. It really pushes the graphics systems hard, and despite their vast improvement over the pathetic Intel onboard graphics systems, the 9400M is still pretty anemic for high end work. You're better off saving a little more money and getting the low end 15" model. Not to mention, the extra screen real estate makes a huge difference with the very crowded Final Cut Pro UI.

  • Maintaining Multiple Arch Installs, Symbolic Links, BTRFS

    Hi again.
A quick update on my previous post (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=164627). The GRUB problem I was having seems to have stopped. I got a very useful recommendation regarding pacman and XBMC still hasn't been fixed, but is fully usable with the workaround I am using and have just gotten used to it so it's not so much of an issue now. I think now that it should be marked as solved but how do I do that? Was looking around but guess I'm just missing it.
Anyway now I have a few more issues, or more just questions I guess that I would like help on. Recently I found an old laptop of mine and so to learn more about the Arch system I decided to try and install Arch. Now this laptop is around 5-6 years old and I haven't been able to get WiFi working fully for around 3 years and eventually upgraded 2 years ago to my current laptop. The WiFi was always 'soft-locked' until after about 4-5 restarts (in windows it was fine, but any Linux Distribution post Ubuntu 10.10 had the same issue). The issues still remains in other distributions even after "rfkill all". In Arch ever since running that command (the first boot from install media the issue occurred) this laptops WiFi has been brilliant. I also installed XFCE4 desktop for speed of set up. Now I'm looking to give my laptop to my younger brother before he heads of to University in September until he can afford a new one (or he breaks this one - somehow his laptops never last), as this old one now runs better than it ever did on Windows Vista. My girlfriend is also looking for me to install Linux again on her laptop (we used WUBI in the past) but a full install since her Windows Vista laptop is near unusable in Windows. So far I have got hamachi set up between my new and old laptop, this gives static IP addresses and will allow me to SSH into the laptop for upgrades every so often. I'm planning to do the same for my girlfriends laptop. Would I be stupid to do this via Arch? I've heard it breaks often and I don't want to have to be doing fixes for other peoples laptops as I won't have the time to do so. I guess the reason I want to use Arch is both laptops are quite old and Arch has breathed new life into my old one.
Secondly I have symbolic links set up in my "Music" and "Video" folders in my home directory to their counterparts in my Windows partition. However my music player "Clementine" doesn't find every album in the music folder. Does symbolic links have "flaws" like this or is it more likely to be my music player behaving badly with symbolic links? I would try another music player but I can't seem to find one which plays FLAC files with external / embedded .cue files so can't really test this out. I can of course link directly to the location but I thought I would ask, just to learn more I guess.
Now when I installed Arch using BTRFS file system I didn't know that I had to mount using compression immediately, I thought I could add it to the fstab at a later point - obviously not. Now I found a command which will defragment my drive and supposedly compress everything. However this command doesn't make any sense to me and I don't want to just run it without knowing what it does. Could anyone other me any insight into this please? Also does defragmentation after the fstab mount options have been added cause the compression?
"find -xdev -type f -exec btrfs fi defrag '{}' \;"
    or I also found
    "btrfs filesystem defragment ~/stuff"
Thanks for any help, I understand this post is quite long so I really appreciate it.

Ah right thanks. I thought as much which is why I asked before I did so, I'll find another distribution. Just where I've been running Arch for a few weeks now and haven't had to do any maintenance at all really, but weren't too sure what I'd be in for in the long-run. I mean to be fair I was always planning on another distribution but as I was playing around at first on the old laptop I ended up with my current way to SSH in and just wondered if it would be viable to do it this way.
I knew it would be a driver issue at the core of my problem, just weren't too sure if it something else could of been affecting it. Guess I'll try and find another distribution which runs near as new software to Arch as possible as it seems the issue has been fixed in newer versions of the kernel and drivers. Granted the old laptop had been unused for around a year so any update in the last year could of fixed it in this case. Thanks for your input!

  • What I'd like to see in the next update...

Long time PC user. Bought a Mac last Xmas to make use of some great easy-to-use programs that aren't available through PC so me and my wife can use (ie GarageBand)
We were looking to make our website and found out ilife '06 had iweb. Read about all the great things and WYSIWYG format. Rushed out and purchased one. Started playing around only to realize its real limitations in modifications to templates and such.
What I've been trying to do is simply expand my page a little so that I don't get a solid fill color on either side once I publish my page. I'm able to stretch the background, but the header remains. I've read the posts where others have edited the actual templates file, but I'm hesitant. Sounds like it'll take some time and I'm not entirely comfortable in doing that.
My biggest question is why iWeb doesn't allow customization of the templates. I'm not talking about a full overhaul, just some modifications on size and shape, etc. So my main point is that I would like some more flexibility to customize the existing (and any upcoming) templates. Perhaps the next update (or some update down the road) will incorporate that? From what I've read, it would be useful for many other users as well.
    Mac Mini 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Welcome to the discussions, Kungpow.
My answer to why it doesn't allow customization to templates is probably related to why Vista still isn't shipping. It was probably a hard decision to make to lock down the templates so much, but given a schedule that had to be met in order to ship in time for MacWorld, it had to be cut. It's not that it CAN'T be done (as other users have shown) but probably more that the easy to use and understand GUI for it wasn't going to be completed in time.
Maybe the GUI belongs in the inspector, maybe it belongs floating over the document window like the Adjust and Star editing tools, maybe it should be under Text, but what if you want to use a Graphic instead? Then putting it under Text wouldn't make sense. Oh, what if a user wants to use a shape for a menu button? Instead of being locked to the top, or side how about allowing a rollover button to be anywhere on a page? Would these elsewhere-on-the-page buttons be created the same as the menu ones so that the menu now becomes a specialized version of an "elsewhere" button?
And those are just questions I can think of off the top of my head that could affect how to implement the feature!

  • IPod Touch and Battery Life

Hello guys, just question for you.
I think that soon I'll go get myself a new iPod and still can not decide between the iPod touch 64 gigs and the Classic.
I am looking for a device where I can store all my music and has a good battery life. Now the Classic would be great as I would not need to upgrade for a few years ... the only worry is that it's a bit too fragile, due to the presence of an hard drive and not flash memory.
On the other side I wonder if the iPod touch would resist for a week without charging it....I'm the kind of user who often flickrs tru the list looking for other songs etc and also most of my songs have been ripped at 320kbs so that means the player has to fish into the memory more often
    Any advice? Thanx in advance

    Hi Antonio,
I've had a classic (original 160gb) for a few years now. It's taken a few knocks over time... nothing hardcore/abusive, but still works fine.
Apple say that you get 36hours of music from a classic and 30hours from a touch
I listen to my classic on my way to/from work, and a few hours of the day at work. I can get a whole week out of one charge easy.
I recently bought a touch with some gift vouchers from a work bonus. The usability of a touch is far superior to a classic. Movies, games, apps, wi-fi are all amazingly good, but drain your battery. A charge usually lasts 2-3 days, but I do use my work wi-fi to check facebook & eBay sometimes (banned on work computers)
I'd say touch trumps the classic, but if your music is all 320k, your going to fill 64gb fast!!! One thing to bear in mind is it's almost new Apple time. With the advent of iPhone OS4, there are many rumours and speculations, all of which are totally unfounded, but it is widely assumed that June/July will yield a new iphone, and possibly a new touch. There is no way to know for sure what the specs will be, but the new touch may come in greater sizes than 64gb

    OOPS !!
I will repost the whole messaqge with the correct external URL's:
In  general, the Trustsec design and deployment guides address the specific  support for the various features of the 'whole' Cisco TS (and other  security) solution frameworks.  And then a drill-down (usually the  proper links are embedded) to the specifc feature, and then that feature  on a given device.  TS 2.1 defines the use of ISE or ACS5 as the policy  server, and confiugration examples for the platforms will include and  refer to them.

I find this page very helpful as a top-level start to what features and capabilities exist per device:

As  the SGT functionality (at this point) is really more of a  router/LAN/client solution, the most detailed information will be in the  IOS TS guides like :

  • 10.6.8 SRV won't boot.... launchctl please convert the following to launchd /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist

I have MacPro 2008 with SL Server 10.6.8... SUS, NetBoot, VPN.
I installed last Security Update yesterday and now it wont boot... Spinning gear spins endlessly. I had the same problem couple of months ago (10.6.8 SRV on a MacMini) and I just reinstalled the whole thing but now I don't have the time to do it, plus, I would really like to solve the problem.
Safe boot does not help, Disk repair is not helping and fixing the disk structure/file system with Disk Warrior is not helping...
I would really appreciate  any help or advice.
    Rgds,
    Vedran

No answers in this reply, just questions....
By "not helping" (sorry for my being dense here...), do you mean that safe boot doesn't work at all, or that it produced incorrect results.  Similarly, do you mean that there are no errors logged by the disk repair operations, that there are errors that are resolved, or that there are errors not being resolved?  If there are diagnostics from these, what are the details of the errors?
Any external or third-party devices involved here?  Test: disconnect all external hardware except the keyboard, mouse and monitor.
    Any RAID controller(s) involved?
Do the hardware diagnostics report any errors?
Any third-party devices installed within the Mac Pro system?
Anything in the startup logs?  (Might have to use target disk mode to get at those...)
    WAG: Tried resetting the SMC?
As Don Roedl mentions, you may be in line for a reinstallation here.
