Just received iPhone 6 and it's burning hot after 3 min use

I pre-ordered iPhone 6 from Verizon and received it on 9/19/2014. After I activated the phone, the phone already became very hot. I stopped using it, it cooled down a little bit. When I used it again, it was heating again. Is it defective?

You will always be asked to update your device to the latest iOS. This is standard procedure for any issue or problem which occurs with any device. If you ever read any support articles from Apple for troubleshooting problems, the first thing that is always listed is to make sure you are running the latest version of the software. You'd be amazed at how often this resolves the issue. If it does not in your case, then that particular piece of the troubleshooting process has been executed and proven not to be contributing.
That's why they asked you to upgrade. Hope it all turns out for the best.
Cheers,
GB
