I guess this would be just a topic to talk about and share more than anything. I have bought a lot of cases for my iphone, including the otterbox. I keep switching back at forth from the incase slider and the otterbox. I keep going back to the otterbox cause of the protection that it offers. The only thing that bothers me is that I can't get to the silent switch, but I can turn it down threw the settings so I guess it's ok. I am still looking to see if there are any other cases out there that I might like better. So my question is what case do you have on your iphone and why do you like it? If you use the otterbox say what you do/dont like about it.
My 2 cents: When it comes to all mobile phones I hate cases (using the word hate)... It's always something... Rubbery skins grab every lintberry in your pocket. The flips are annoying to deal with. The real solid ones are cumbersome. The "stylish" sleek leather ones don't hold up. AND just bout very belt clip I've ever seen looks bout as bulky as a U-Haul trailer hitch.

BUT--the iPhone is a thing of beauty. It's something I really want to protect. I've read every "CASE" thread on this forum--and have followed every link. Apple Store too. Other apple/mac enthusiast sites too.
For the way I use my iPhone daily this is what I've found works for me.
CaseMate (hardly ever mentioned) has a good looking leather case. It protects my iPhone when I am out and about.
When I am home I allow my iPhone to be naked. To revel in it's naked beauty. I feel I owe it that.
P.S. vaja cases are Pimp.

I want to place an image in the Note section of my Contact book . I use a MacBook Pro with Yosemite 10.10 . I am NOT talking about using an image to identify the contact, just an image that contains some information relevant to the contact. I have tried copying and pasting, dragging and dropping.

However, Samsung and Sun in July jointly announced an 8G-byte SSD that bumped up durability from 100,000 read-and-write cycles to 500,000. That brings defragmentation in SSDs closer to reality, which could improve its caching and provide quicker access to data. Sun plans to put SSDs into storage products later this year.

Please, I hd not paid my adobe plain, so, it´s canceled ... ok ... but just on few days I paid. My payments, today is OK, bur, all the time I opened my sotwares, I receive messages talking about I have, only, few days to use my softwares ... like "You have 02 days to expire your Adobe CC" ... I try reload my computer ... and many others ways to resolve this case, but I didn´t have successul ... Someone help me? Tks!
You had purchased CC on 01/24/14 which was cancelled & then you again purchased CC 9/7/14, the error message that you are recieving is due to the cancellation as the server is trying to remind you, please log out & log back in of the CC desktop app to activate the new cc . The issue should be resolved.
You have 20 GB of space allocated indicating you have active CC.

I just downloaded the new Firefox 4, rebooted, and viewed your videos re the new look and new features. Problem is, my toolbars look no different than before. The new icons you talk about do not appear on my screen. Please advise. Thank you.
The Firefox icon is the default feature for Windows Vista and 7 only, it does not apply to Windows XP users.
To have the Firefox icon instead of the Menu Bar:
View > Toolbars and UNCHECK the Menu Bar.
After that, click on the Firefox icon and you'll have the Menu Bar appear again.

I am so confused. I am thinking about buying an iPhone 4S but I want to use those card things that you can put the code in for the phone is this possible? I'm not talking about the 50$ unlimited card just the regular 20$ cards that hold mins and texts... As long as it has the support for the service it's hooked up to?
As far as I know there is no US cell carrier that allows pay as you go with an iPhone. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone 4S at an Apple Store and try it with a non-supported carrier.

Something to worry about or is it just router 'white noise'?
I don't think this is Arch specific, but felt the Newbie Corner would be an appropriate place to make this thread. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but I seem to get a lot of blocked UDP packets from various IP's directed at port 55881 in particular. Occasionally, I'll also get attempted TCP connection requests to port 23, 445, and some ports in the 8000's. If this is something to worry about, what can I do to configure my system so that I can be at ease (or close enough)?

As a device, which faces internet, I guess it's normal for the router to detect some connection attempts either by mistake, or from port scanners, kids, etc...
The services run on your machines, not on the router. The only one on the router should be either telnet or httpd for configuration. In order to protect your internal network, you only need to disable remote adminitstration on the router (or whatever it is called in your case, that is the router should be accessible for administration only from the LAN) and port forwarding (also on the router, so that requests are not forwarded to the LAN). Encountered an error apsdaemon.exe when trying to update itunes. Tried to redownload it and it said Service 'apple mobile device' failed to start and do I have sufficient privileges to start system services? I have an Ipad too. R they talking about it? I didn't uninstall Itunes from the Ipad Just my PC,
I don't think so...Seems like an apple issue to me...Or do you know something I don't?

I can not believe that i am having this much problem getting my adobe connected. I don't know if i did something wrong or not. I just want it fixed. You told me i didn't have a contract with you but yes i do. I also deleted all of adobe from my computer because you said i didn't have a contact. If you could help me i would appreciate it.

Talking about / Presenting JavaFX
I am going to talk about / introduce / present JavaFX to small audience of about 10 Java developers for about half an hour.
What do you feel should I be talking about?
I was thinking about these topics:
- History and Roadmap of JavaFX (including v1)
- Pros and cons (maybe compared to other technologies)
- Datastructures (e.g. ObservableList)
- Properties and Binding
- FXML
- Going through the Samples (Ensemble.jar)
- Scene Builder (only mention it, never worked with it yet)
- maybe some small live coding sample (do you have an idea?)
- maybe some sample with CellFactories.
What do you think and are there any other (fundamental) topics my audience should know about?
Deployment, WebStart (though I never got in touch with that)?Half an hour is a short time - it will go very quick - pick and choose your topics.
History is past, forget about that, talk about what you can do today - don't even mention the roadmap until the end and then only if you have time - the roadmap is increasingly in need of a refresh as most of the stuff on it has been done and a lot of stuff being done isn't on it.
Demo cool stuff - everybody likes to see cool stuff.
Ensemble and SceneBuilder are pretty cool stuff - so is WebView and the Graphs.
Don't show ColorfulCircles type demos to a bunch of enterprise developers - designers, game devs, etc are another matter.
Cell Factories are pretty involved, you might get yourself in a tangle talking about them.
Layout is an important topic.
Leave the pros and cons till towards the ends, and ask the audience for what they think the pros and cons (and the other technologies) are and draw them up on a whiteboard - axing out the myths and pointing out the unseen roadblocks as you go . . .
Live code samples => a media player (native + youtube html5 h264), a graph, a webview, something which shows off the scenegraph.
You can just showcode on some Ensemble samples if that's easier.
Don't talk about stuff you haven't touched.
Deployment is challenging to talk about well, and to do well, I guess if you wanted you could just give it a quick once-over so that the audience knows what their options are.
Rehearse - make it seem easy, effortless and powerful - the presentation and the technology - get people excited :-) -
All this talk about HEAT, my PowerBook G4 1.25GHZ gets hot!
I have ordered a new MBP 2.16GHZ 1GB 120HD but since I heard all the talk about heat I started monitoring my Powerbook G4 1.25GHZ and you know what, it gets hot!
I downloaded a widget from the Apple site and after about 4-5 hours of just regular web surfing and iTunes I had a CPU bottomside temp of 136F! It was hot between the F keys and the screen almost too hot to touch. I have owned this machine for three years and have never noticed it!
I am somewhat relieved as I think that I have been worried about something that has always been there and never affected my Mac experience before. Obviously this new Mac has a much faster CPU inside so I expect it will get at least as hot. I am not saying that the heat is normal it's just nothing new.
Anyone else noticed this since they started reading about it?I really do wonder about these 2.16 models. I had a 2.16 on loan while my 2 GHz version was being repaired and it ran warm, but nowhere near the temperatures of the 2 GHz.
Anyway, I got the 2 GHz back and two weeks later the battery started to swell. Now they are upgrading me to the flagship model for free; all heat related issues BTW.
I understand the loyalty and need to defend Apple, but when you run a business you tend to feel a little differently I guess. Glad to hear your not experiancing problems.

Something to say about Western Digital Caviar 250 Gig?
I want to add a second drive to my 1,8DP G5 (PCI-X) and I can find available locally this disc:
WESTERN DIGITAL- WD2500JS
Western Digital 250GB SATA II 7200 RPM 8MB
I wanted to check that nobody had problems with this kind of disk. I'll get it from a PC parts supplier and wanted to know if there is something I'd have to switch or configure to make it works fine in Mac.

I have a Power G5 dual 2Ghz and have recently bought and installed a second HD. It happened to be a WD Caviar 250 GB, SATA-II, 16MB 7200 rpm, and it only lasted one month: it soon started to make metallic noises (as if the head was falling on the disk) and then crashed.
I first thought the disk was defective so I had it replaced with a new one, same model. As soon as I installed it (upper bay) this second disk also started to have the same problems as the first one and crashed after 4 days.
I was wondering if there is any known incompatibility. In particular, the disk is labelled as SATA-II, while the manual I got with my Power G5 talks about SATA disk: are they the same thing? Or do I have to set some jumpers/switches etc.?
I hope someone can help, I am desperate, I dont't know if my Mac has a problem or I'm just not using the right disks or the correct settings.
Any suggestions on some tests or anything I can try?

3 iOs 5 bugs no one seems to be talking about
I've noticed 3 bugs in iOs 5 that no one seems to be talking about.
1. Sometimes the setup personal hotspot toggle in settings will keep thinking even if you don't tap on it. I believe this contributes to the poor battery life. I've found the only way to stop this is to reboot with home & power buttons.
2. When playing a movie or music the fast forward/search toggle on top is unresponsive. It takes up to 5 times sometimes for it to pick up that my finger is on it, and by this time it's already skipped around so much that it's pointless.
3. This last one is more of an app compatibility issue. Google's search app times out and is useless now since opening Safari and using the search function in the corner works much faster.

Recently, iTunes upgraded. My 7th generation iPod is now not recognized and I cannot sync. The troubleshooting talks about being visible in Windows (iPod is invisible) No other options and nothing about windows 8
I have had similar issues with mine, happens mainly if I transfer songs and then decide to disconnect my iPod to listen to them with my IEMs (I use Interenet Explorer in my case and it is not neccessarely up when this happens, so I seriously doubt it is an issue conencted to the web browser). I have no patience for this so my trick is I try to eject it from iTunes, if that does not work, then I bring Windows explorer up, right mouse click on the iPod mounted drive and select Eject. It gives me the same warning but there is a third button selection called Continue. When I choose that it just disconnets the drive anyway and the iPod is finally disconnected. It seems to work each and every time I do it so this solution is fine for me. Would be intersting to see what the real root cause of this is because I started getting this problem with the newer iTunes 11.

The following steps may resolve your issue:
Apple TV: Basic troubleshooting

If your TV screen appears fuzzy or black (you see no video)
Make sure the television you are using supports the Apple TV resolution requirements. Please see the Apple TV technical specifications.
When you connect power, check to make sure the LED turns on. If the LED is not on, then verify with a known good power outlet or connect something else to the outlet you're using for Apple TV and make sure it works (such as a lamp or clock).
Make sure you're using the correct video cables and that they are connected firmly to Apple TV and to your TV.
Connect the HDMI cable directly into the Apple TV and your television, remove any third party devices or adapters.
Make sure the input setting you've selected on your TV matches the input you have your video cables connected to. See the documentation that came with your TV for more information.
Change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the Selectbutton will immediately cycle to the next resolution.
If you are connected via HDMI, try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable.
If HDMI isn't working on an Apple TV (1st generation), try component cables instead (and disconnect the HDMI cable temporarily). Read more about HDMI vs component video.

Instructions immediately talk about Firefox Window, but doesn't say how to get this window.
It's taken me almost an hour to get to this point. I am technologically challenged. I have an old version of Firefox. The instructions immediately launch into the "Firefox Window" but says nothing about how to get to this window. Where is this window? Maybe I should just download Opera?
What instructions are you talking about and what do you want to accomplish?
