I want to sell my old phone on ebay. Will doing a hard reset totally clean the phone out so that the next user will not be able to access any of my info?

Just to add to what vereyezuhn already answered, a hard reset will remove all of your data applications and settings that are stored on the device memory, however, it will not erase any data from your removable SD card. If you are keeping your SD memory card just ensure you remove the card before shipping your device. Otherwise, if you are selling the SD card with the device I would suggest formatting the card prior to shipping to ensure none of your data is left on your card. Just make sure you backup your card data prior to formatting, since formatting will erase all of the data.

i think you are genuinely confused as to what a hard reset is, Grschinon is indeed correct. i am sure that you can perform this on your phone so try this:
with the phone turned off, press and hold the green call key, * key and the 3 key all at the same time. while holding all of these down, press and hold the power button down until the Nokia hands logo is displayed on the phone. there should now be the country selection/date and time selection screen displayed. if that does not work, then instead of pressing the 3 key, substitute this for the multimedia key (small silver key). if those still do not work, then your best bet is to take your phone to your local Nokia Care Centre for them to take a look at.

Airport Express 802.11n will not hard reset or firmware.

Greetings. I received notice that there was a firmware update for my Airport Express. Tried to install and the update process just hangs and eventually times out. Am trying to view settings on the Airport Express but the wait symbol just spins. Attempted to do both a hard reset and factory default reset and neither of those are working either. Did the failed firmware update process pooch the Express?

Hi there, I experienced the same problem. Here was my solution, it takes a lot of pressing on that reset button. I have a Time Capsule, too, so if you don't maybe this isn't as helpful as you'd prefer....but here goes. I pressed the reset button, briefly mind you, while it was plugged in. This caused the LED to start blinking rapidly yellow. Then I connected an ethernet cable to the EXPRESS and unplugged, then plugged back in. I could suddenly "see" the Airport Express again in the admin utility. Then I logged on to it, and chose to Restore Default Settings. Restarted again. Then and only then, I reapplied the firmware update 7.3.2, which appeared to work fine. Then after that, I was able to re-add it as "Extend My Wireless Network" into the Airport Extreme's wifi net. I hope that this helps. Remember, pressing the reset button is the key. The Hard Reset method did not work after the incomplete firmware update that was the precursor to all the problems that you and I were having. Good luck!

Will a Hard Reset delete my iTunes Library?

My 60GB iPod is acting up. The video is stuttering like the drive is fragged from all the stuff I've got on there. Which is why I'm thinking of erasing the entire drive. But will iTunes not only retain, but replace all my files when I sync it again?

There is no “hard” reset. There is a Reset (Press and hold Select and Menu).
There is a Restore. Reformats the iPod HD and reinstalls the iPdo OS. Run the iPod Updater and select Restore.
Neither of these will do anything to iTunes or the iTunes library on the computer.

Time capsule will not hard reset

Can you access it via the airport utility.. if so you can reset via the utility.
When you press the reset button with a paperclip or toothpick you should feel the switch.. it is fairly normal switch effect like the keyboard. If in the past you pushed too hard you have bent and jammed the lever.. so it is now broken.. the only way to fix it is to open the TC and fix the lever arm.
BTW the light always flashes yellow.. when you have done a successful reset it simply flashes faster.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

Nano A1320 will not sync,will not hard reset.

This is not mine, it's my 10 year old daughter's. I don't know what she has done, she doesn't know, I'm not yet convinced she has done something to contribute to this.
When I plug it into the PC on her Win7 user profile, it sort of indicates it is syncing, then it acts as if it is disconnected, without actually diconnecting. It flashes, and sometimes just shows an apple. Having given up on it and whatever setting she may have changed, I figure I'll just to a full reset on it, wipe it all, music and everything. I hold down the "menu" button and the center sellect button at the same time for up to 20 seconds, the apple shows up, then goes away. I never get asked to do a reset and it never does a reset. After waiting twice the ten seconds I read about online, all her stuff is still on it.
Am I holding down the wrong buttons for this model? What is up with this thing?

Why can't Apple build a network product that is as easy to setup and configure as EVERYONE else?
I decided to cave in and get the Airport Extreme, knowing how bad Apple executes on anything other than a MacBook. And sure enough I was not let down.
I plugged in the Airport Extreme and went through the efforts to configure it. While configuring it, I did not use the manual setup (which I should have). It only asked for the DNS settings and nothing else like the gateway and network mask from my ISP provider. Now, it is hosed.
1. I am using the Airport Utility software that came with the product.
2. I have held the reset button in and watched the sudden flashing of the amber lights.
3. I have power cycled the devide
AND NOTHING! Argh - why did I spend so much money on such a piece of crap.
I would be so grateful if anyone can help me. This is so frustrating.

you can check the hardware capability of the treo 650 especially the charger port and the battery itself.
if you know someone that has a 650 or another charger that is the same as you, try to borrow it and test your phone if it will charge unto it.
you can also try another battery if it will resolve the issue. if none of those things can help it fix the issue, then it's time for you to have the phone repaired.

What does the backup entail?
By doing a hard factory reset, and then restoring from the backup, am I liable to be back at square one?

Yes. If you restore from backup, the only things that you should restore are contacts, calendar and messages.

Hard reset problems - TX

I had to do a hard reset on my TX because my stylus would not work. Now, after the hard reset, all I get is a screen that says "tap the center of the target." I have tapped the target probably 50 times and that screen won't go away. Any ideas?

Hi, since you got the screen asking you to Tap the targets, I am guessing you did the Hard Reset correctly but just in case.

If you use a Screen Protector.
Check that it is not stuck between the screen and the frame.
If it is pushing down on the screen then this will cause your device to respond to that false 'Tap'
Best to take the Screen Protector off to test properly.
Also, you may have some 'dirt' trapped between the screen and the frame.
Take a piece of stiff paper (business card works) and drag it between the screen and the frame and see if any dirt etc comes out, not too hard just drag.
Do another Hard Reset and if it is still not possible to get out of the target screen (Calibrate Touchscreen) then you have a faulty Touchscreen.
If you are under warranty contact Palm Support to get a replacement TX.

However this time, when I take the phone out of my pocket; the phone was not only resetting but the data in MicroSD is also being formatted. My question:1. Is it possible that the MicroSD is being formated automatically by hard reset?2. I am trying to recover the latest backup file from MicroSD that formated by the phone. What file extention that I should look for? Is it .bak file?

The reset of Primo 81 would be long pressing the power key for over 8 secs, but it won't enter the Android recovery mode.
The better way to solve your problem now is to re-flash the firmware.

Checking Hard Reset when TX screen not working

I recently spilled water on my TX and have lost the screen display. I want to send it for repair but am concerned about my data. As the screen is Download Freeware not working I have no check that the hard reset process runs successfully.
Could anyone offer advice / reassurance regarding the security of my data? If I haven't wiped my data does my logon password still offer protection in the repair environment?

Yes it will.
If you have setup a screen lock with a password, your data will be secure. The only way to remove the screen lock, if you don't know the password, is to hard reset. If the TX is sent for repair and the display issue is resolved, the TX will be hard reset which will erase all your info. There is no way to access the TX without the login credentials.
The hard reset will reformat the memory on your device. All data, settings and other preferences you've selected will be removed.

Just got the LG G2 and it will not allow me to upload pictures to FB. I can send and receive picture messages via texting but that is it. I've tried a hard reset twice, I've uninstalled FB and reinstalled it, and I've tried uploading it 3 different ways--

Really sounds like you are doing it right, but the FB app is notorious for being buggy after each update, which is fairly frequent. Try to upload via the FB webpage in Chrome on the phone. You can try the mobile or desktop verion of the page by tapping menu settings in the browser. Its a little different but it'll let you know if its the app or the phone.
