Just today, when tried to do a software update ....

Was trying to do asoftware update both on My Imac (wired) broadband connection and wireless with Macbook there was a note stating "The file index-Lion-Snow Leopard-Leopard.Merge-1.sucatalog" could not be found on the server "WSSCAN.Apple.com
I did the network diagnostic on both the imac and notebook and everything with my interenet connection was all working good using the network diagnostics.
Can anyone shed some light to this as this incident only occurred today Sept4, 2011 unlike before when software updates were just a breeze to to.

The same issue has been reported by others, such as -
Software Update not working: Apple Support Communities
Conclusion - that the problem originates with Apple's download servers, not from any specific machine.

why is there an error occurring when trying to do a software update ios6 on iphone 4s??

You might find this article helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
It has the error range of 3000's which states
Errors 3000-3999 (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes.

  • Getting "The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)" when trying to check for software updates

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?  I get "The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)" when trying to check for softward updates on my iMac.  I have the latest version of Mountain Lion installed.

Apparently a server overload > NSURLErrorDomain error -1100
    Try again later.

  • Error 8001 when trying to sync the software update applications

Today, I erased all of the settings and media on my iPod touch, not thinking it would remove the Software Upgrade iPhone apps I installed on it (though it did). Now, if I sync to restore my music (and the apps to it), the apps cannot sync. I get "unknown error (8001)". As far as I've googled and asked others, I haven't found anything on it. There's also nothing in the logs.
Music syncs fine, just these bloody apps that I paid 20 bucks for won't go back. And if I remove the package from my ~/Library/Itunes/Mobile Applications/ folder, iTunes doesn't even let me re-download it for free.
I've restored several times, and the error occurs each time. Obviously I have the most up-to-date iTunes and firmware version. Any suggestions?

When you restored the ipod, and itunes asks if you would like to restore from a backup, did you say yes? If so, restore the ipod again, and say no to the itunes backup. You will have to resetup all your settings on the ipod, but give it a shot.

  • Getting this error when trying to run latest software update on MacBook Pro

Everytime I try to run the update, it starts to download and then I get this error:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1102.)(102)
I'm not too sure what it means, or how to fix it. If someone could help me out, that would be great!
    Thanks!

    You might try this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Then download and install: OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo).

  • HT2489 How do I fix this error when trying to install a software update?

The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”.

I'd try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • When trying to do a software update I get a progress window showing "connecting to the update server" with the blue progress bar continuially scrolling. It never connects. What's my problem?

The question has as much detail as I know to give.

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.<br />
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You do not need to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

hey all, for some reason Flashbuilder does not want to install new software. It just sits there forever calculating. Has anyone else seen this before?  It used to work fine. Not sure what's changed.

have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!
The configure bar gets about an 1/8 full and then just does nothing. I think its lists the update as combo update? cant remember with out checking.
I have tried to do the disk verify and repair but this has made no difference.
Please let me know what i need to do, I have reformatted the mac just to start over as was clogged with a lot of useless data, I had installed lion (10.7) from the app store previously and now cant seem to find a way to re install lion. I hope I dont need to pay for it again?

If you erased your hard drive, you'll need to reinstll OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to access the App store. You won't have to pay for OS X 10.7 Lion again. Did you try booting to the recovery partition by holding the command and r keys down? If that's still there, you can reinstall OS X 10.7 from there.
If you're looking to install the current iTunes, you need OS X 10.6.8 at a minimum.
If you're still trying to update OS X 10.5 Leopard, you can download the combo update from here.  Download, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then repair permissions again. That will take you to OS X 10.5.8.

  • TS1398 my network but just hangs when trying to connect? I've have reset the settings and all sorts? My iPhone can connect fine? Any advise would be great!

My iPad can see my network but just hangs when trying to connect? I've  reset the settings and all sorts? My iPhone can connect fine? Any advise would be great!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
