Just updated - Now won't start

Aaaarrrgh! Had to archive & install Tiger because the Apple ProApps kit & Quicktime hosed my FCP. Going back to QT 7.2 FCP works. Does Safari require newest QT? If so I need to go back to Safari 2. How can I do this in the cleanest way. Do I have to throw anything special away?
Thanks
Enio

You have 90 days of free support at the Apple Store and if you buy AppleCare it's up to 3 years of support and hardware warranty.
Also buy a external drive for TimeMachine backups.
This is the best course for you as Apple can also run a diagnostic on your machine and if it's determined to be a bad hard drive, they will replace it with a good one.
We can only help those who are a bit more seasoned and can take some rather drastic actions.

  • After update, Itunes won't start, saying I need QT 7.3 but only have 7.2

I just did their update download to Itunes 6 after they informed me it was available. But the QuickTime version for windows is 7.0.2. But my windows computer won't start Itunes saying I need 7.0.3. I've had itunes for close to two years and have never had a problem. Until now. Now I can't open Itunes, can't get support help, and it doesn't seem like I can even go back to Itunes 5 which worked great. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

well you HAVE TO HAVE quicktime in order for iTunes to work sorry

  • MSI H61M-P23 (B3) Successfuly updated bios won't start the pc.

    Hey guys,
I have a major issue now. I accidentally started updating bios on my motherboard, but after tackling some major problems regarding the usb format and missing files, I have managed to get it updated successfully. Now I have another problem where my PC just won't start. I won't even give me a beep. Basically what happens is that it starts working for a second. The fans spin, and my keyboard and USB LEDs flash for a second and then it does that over and over again without even starting up.
    What do I do?

Try clearing cmos (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<) else the board is bricked as the update failed. You can either have it flashed with an SPI flash programming device by a pc-shop or MSI (not for free of course), replace the board or rma it if still under warranty (what is most likely not the case).

  • Satellite L - After BIOS update it won't start up again

I just got an email saying there was a BIOS update for my laptop. It started to install but my computer shut down and won't start back up
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
The update was: ACPI Flash BIOS version 1.90 for Sat/Sat Pro L355D/L305D (PSLE0U, PSLC0/1U)

    Hello
And what Satellite notebook you have exactly? Is your notebook designed for this update or is it another model?
After a failed BIOS update you can try this workaround: Remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery then wait one hour. After this connect the AC/DC adaptor and battery again. Now try to start the notebook again.
If the notebook doesnt start you need help from a notebook technician. Therefore contact the nearest authorized service provider. They can help and will try to reflash the ROM module I think or the mainboard must be exchanged.

  • After installing update, iMac won't start up

After installing the last updates my iMac won't start up, starts what look like install then just shuts down.

  • After installing latest update Macbook won't start up.

After installing the latest update my macbook won't start up. Instead of the login screen I get a flashing map icon with a question mark. My uncle says that means it can't find the startup disk and I had to startup from the install disk holding C but it didn't work. I'm quite desperate because I need my macbook for school (writing & producing music). I type this on a friend's computer... How can I fix this? Or do I really have to go to a mac store and part from my macbook for an unknown time...? :'(
I don't exactly know what version I have (can't check it now either) but it's at least 10.6.something and I always install the updates...

    Hi
Anything unusual happen during the 10.5.3 update installation phase?
What type of iMac are you using? Your tag says G5 but also Intel core processors - it can't be both.
    Try this:
-First unplug your computer and wait 10 minutes
-Next, simultaneously reinsert the power cord while pressing the power button for 5 seconds then release
-Press the power button again to start the computer - this resets the computer's system management unit (SMU) which controls your machines power functions.
-Next, press/hold down the P/R/option/command keys for 3 Apple chimes. This clears the machine's PRAM. After the 3rd chime release those keys and immediately hold down the Shift key to put the machine into Safe User Mode
-If you get to a log-in screen (may take several minutes as repair functions are occurring on the boot), log-in. When the login is complete, restart the computer as usual.
If no go, I suggest taking the machine to a certified Apple tech, or if you live near an Apple store to the Genius Bar.

  • Tried to restart on os 9, now won't start up at all

I have an old G4 desktop with OS 9.0. I bought OS 10.4.6 and installed it fine, not erasing the hard drive.
I discovered that Classic can't work unless you have 9.1 or preferably 9.2 or later, so I went and downloaded a 9.1 upgrade (intending to later get a 9.2 upgrade too). Then I went and tried to restart in 9.0 so that I could install the 9.1 upgrade, but now the computer won't start up at all.
If I hold down opt during start-up, a screen appears with three icons: a circular arrow, a hard disk w/ little Finder icon, and a right arrow.
What do I do? And is there a way NOT to erase my hard drive, or is it too late for that?
Thanks for any help... and please be detailed in responses because I don't know much about these sorts of things.

    rmyself, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Did you check to see if your Mac requires a firmware (Boot ROM version) update? Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 If an update is required, the update must be installed (using OS 9) BEFORE you install OS X.

  • OSX Yosemite 10.10.3 freeze during installation now won't start up help!

When updating to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 the installation process freezed up with 1 min left. I waited few hours and decided to shutdown my Macbook Pro with the power button and waited 30 sec to power back on, but my Mac won't start up! You see the apple logo and a progress bar for 2 min and than a black screen with sometimes a spinner rotating and disappearing again showing the cursor back and forth. I turned it back off and need some advice from someone what to do next!
Please can someone help me with this!?

I solved the problem myself. This is what i did:
First i restart in safe mode:
Turn off you Mac wait 10 sec
    Press on the on/off button
Keep the Shift-key pushed in when you hear the startup sound, not before that!
Let go of the shift-key when you see the Apple-logo on the screen
    Next:
Wait until progress bar is done and the Mac starts up in safe mode. The system feels unstable, but ignore that for now.
Go into Apple Store and make sure that are no updates left to install if the are install them.
Then go into Disk-utility and check your Macintosh HD on faults.
If something turns up wrong with your HD close Disk-utility and shut down your mac (make sure any updates are done).
Now we going to repair HD:
    Startup your mac
And directly keep pressing COMMAND + R keys until you see the Apple-logo appear then release them.
You will see some options and go into Disk-utility and select your Macintosh HD second one down and repair the disk and wait until done.
If everything is repaired correctly you can restart you mac, done..

  • Water on MacBook now won't start

Water and fizzy drink went on it and now it won't start. It ran for a bit but now zip. Any ideas?
    It was only a bit.

ASAP make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Expect an costly bill for the repairs which will probably require a motherboard replacement at best.

  • Just updated, now getting spam in my system log

I just updated to OSX 10.8.5 and am getting two lines incessantly [SPAM] in my system log. Every time a sound is made on my computer, I get:
Sep 15 14:26:08 Johns-iMac-27.local coreaudiod[201]: Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active
Sep 15 14:26:08 Johns-iMac-27.local coreaudiod[201]: Enabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive
which keeps going on page after page.
How do I turn this off?

Those are routine log messages. They don't indicate a problem.

  • IMac 233 1998, upgraded to OSX, brownout, now won't start up.

Hello. Our bicycle collective received a gift of a 1998 Blue iMac, I believe it's the 233 MHz, not sure if it's regular or 233/B.
It came with OS 8.5. Most unwisely someone decided to install OSX 10.1.5 without researching it beforehand. It ran the OSX for a while until a circuit breaker lost power. Since then the iMac won't start from either the keyboard power button or the computer power button.
I believe it came with 4 gigs of hard drive space, is this enough for OSX? Should we get an external USB hard drive?
I'll be back there tonight to check it out, I found out about the reset button and I'll try that.
    Does anyone have any suggestions.
The specs on the iMac when we got it:
    OS 8.5
Two memory slots currently 32+128 + 160 megs memory
    CD only tray
    Production date 11/28/1998.
Also has a built in modem (I'm assuming a standard 56k modem hard wired - can this be converted to wifi?)
2 (two) USB slots and a firewire(?)some other small square input slot.
    Thanks,
    Arthur

    Hi,
    First where are you located?
Then you should go here for info on your machine:
    http://www.lowendmac.com/imacs/index.shtml
depending on if it's a rev A or B. I think you can tell by looking at the graphics chip.
    As to the startup issue:
    "Logic Board Battery
The battery on the logic board controls the stored system settings,
such as date and time. It is important to note that the battery does
    not affect power at startup."
but then in manuals for the slot loaders they said to check the battery if there were dead at start up issues. Hee hee.
    Also:
    "The Cuda Chip
The Cuda is a microcontroller chip. Its function is to:
    • Turn system power on and off.
    • Manage system resets from various commands.
    • Maintain parameter RAM (PRAM).
    • Manage the real-time clock.
Many system problems can be resolved by resetting the Cuda chip
(see the Symptom/Cure tables for examples). Press the Cuda
reset button on the logic board to reset the Cuda chip. (The Cuda
reset button is located on the back edge of the logic board between
the modem port and the processor module. Refer to the Logic Board
Diagram in the Basics chapter for location information.) If you
continue to experience system problems, refer to “Resetting the
Logic Board” later in this chapter.
Troubleshooting General/ Resetting the Logic Board - 11
    Resetting the Logic Board
Resetting the logic board can resolve many system problems (see
the Symptom/Cure tables for examples). Whenever you have a
unit that fails to power up, you should follow this procedure
    before replacing any modules.
    1. Unplug the computer.
    2. Disconnect the cable that runs from the power supply to the
power filter board on the bottom side of the logic board/mass
    storage chassis.
    3. Press the Power On button on the front of the unit.
    4. Remove the logic board/mass storage chassis from the unit.
    5. Remove the battery from the logic board.
    6. Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing the battery.
    7. Make sure the battery is installed in the correct +/-
    direction.
    8. Reassemble the computer and test the unit.
    Note:
This procedure resets the computer’s PRAM. Be sure to
check the computer’s time/date and other system parameter
    settings afterwards."
    eMail me for complete info.
