What is the error message you get? If it's telling you to upgrade Numbers but you already have updated, then that means you probably are trying to open the document with the old version, which is still on your Mac, in a sub folder within Applications named iWork '09. Open the document with the Numbers that is in your Applications folder (not the one in a subfolder). It's easy to confuse the two, because the icons are similar.
If you're getting some other error message, could you post specifics?

Try two things with Safari not running:
1) Launch Adobe Reader, open its preferences, select the Internet category, and check the values under "Display PDF in browser using". If it's checked, try unchecking it.
2) Look in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (at the top-level of your boot volume) for something names AdobePDFViewer.plugin. If you see such a file, try moving it to a folder named "Disabled Plug-Ins" (if such a folder exists) or onto the Desktop.
Then see how things work.

it sounds like you were using iCloud. Go under Settings > iCloud and make sure the switch for Notes is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, turn it off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. Your notes should sync up.

Security Update 2007-004: can't open any MS Office programs & files.

I installed update this morning. Since then, I can't open any MS Office files and even programs. When I clicks the prograqms, it is jumping with icon but the program is not started (still Finder window).
Do you have any similar experience and know how to fix this?
Is this MS Office problem or OX security Update problem, or two jsut crashed?
I realy want to fix this because I usuaally work with Word/Exel/Power Point fimes. I appreciate your effort to read and thanks in advance.

Have just found this discussion group and now feel less incompetent. Have been unable to open any Office 2004 for Mac programmes for just over a week, and now cannot open the only other non Mac programme I have installed, which was working fine before (the Inland Revenue payroll software programme). Cannot get at half my archived e-mails which were in Entourage, although I also use .mac for my work e-mails which is fine. Have downloaded a demo spreadsheet programme to tide me over, and moved to using ilife which is good. But all the same - what is happening, and how can this be fixed? And if its happening to lots of us, surely either apple or Microsoft should give us a fix??
by the way, I am a new mac user, since May, and an enthusiastic convert until now!

I can't open any programs or files and if I click on the Safari tab it disappears from the dock. I've tried rebooting with no joy.
I contacted technical help at Apple and was told to hold down the ctrl and alt keys with two other keys, I think the S or P keys when powering up. This worked
and the computer seemed fine but now the problem has reappeared. Is there a way to removed downloaded updates from the computer or revert it to an earlier state?   Sorry for the long question. Hopefully one of you clever people can help.   Simon

It's always good to go with one thing at a time and stay focused on that. Let's start with the OS you're running. Click on the Apple menu > About This Mac. What does it say under Mac OS X version ?

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Have you checked to see if your [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins are updated]? It might be that you have an outdated Silver Light plugin.

I've just installed maverick and can't open any documents.

Im getting a 'you don't have permission ' error message. That tells me to 'get info' & when I look there it says I have read & write permission.
In the finder, the file info - date, size, kind etc. is greyed out, though the file name is full res

Did all this - the problem is across my network onto shared drives:
I upgraded my two machines - now when I access files on the "shared" storage array (a thunderbolt, pegasus array) across the network (ethernet) if I modify the file (for instance, a jpg) and then go to save I get a "you don't have permissions to etc...." and then when I just close the file without saving - it disappears from my file server permanently! even if I go to the machine hooked up to the array the file is "gone" - unbelievable. I have updated permissions where I can, deleted and added the sharing for users, tried SMB and AFP, and even downgraded the "sharing" machine back to OSX 10.8 where it was working fine but the client machine still is doing this where it can connect, see all the files, but as soon as I modify a file I get the warning and bam, it's gone forever....

If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

Yes, the device was replaced by Apple for the original owner and somehow made it back into the supply chain with Apples approval.
Return it to whomever you purchased it from, if still in the return period, and demand a refund.

Can't open any iWork apps

Just upgraded to this iMac from my 2002 G4, and had iWork pre-loaded, just because. I can't open any of the applications, just get an error message.
I tried removing and reinstalling, starting form the OSX install disc and using disc utility to correct permissions, verify and repair the (brand new) disc, none of this works. Just downloaded and installed the latest update, same old, same old.
Any ideas??

You haven't said what the error message says.
You haven't moved the iWork applications from where they were installed by any chance?
From here it is hard to tell what could have gone wrong in a brand new installation.
You have at least 30 days installation and software telephone support. 3 years if you bought AppleCare. Make use of it.
