Just upgraded and now no Microsoft Office suite?

We decided to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion last night and have now found we cannot access any of our Microsoft office applications..
What can we do to get this back and working again?
Do we have to purchse a new office to mac package?
Cheers
Scott

Niel is right. Older versions of MS Office are not compatible with Mountain Lion --one of the many unwelcome features of a truly unfriendly, misguided OS.
If you have more than one Mac, and ANY of them is compatible with Snow Leopard, downgrade it. In fact, there is no reason to upgrade to Mountain Lion unless we absolutely MUST. I was VERY happy with Apple from 10.3 through 10.6, so I jumped the gun and upgraded the computer I use for email to Lion as soon as it became available --a decision I have come to regret.
If I were you, I would avoid the expense AND the trouble of buying another MS Office suite by simply downgrading back to the previous OS. If downgrading is not an option, LibreOffice is a great piece of software, fully compatible with MS Office, and free.
Poor advice. Please avoid passing your personal disattisfaction, most likely caused by your own Computer habits, onto others. Many, many million of users are running Mountain Lion without an issue.

Just upgraded and now a keyboard is appearing on an app and I don't want it

If the keyboard isn't supposed to show in the app then it's possible that the developers need to make a change for iOS 8.
You could try closing the app via the iPad's taskbar and see if that makes any difference.
If not then you could try deleting the app and redownloading it and see if that fixes it - though if you've made in-app purchases within it you may want to check if they are re-downloadable.

    Hi icsailor,
This sounds like a known issue reported here:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=713014
There was a workaround posted, but I've not tested it myself. Here are the steps.
    # Go into Yahoo Messenger Options - Change the Window in the dropdown to Tab and press OK.
    # Then go back and switch it to small window and press OK.
Once the bug is officially resolved, you could try running a Nightly or Aurora build to use the fix early.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Just Upgraded and now NO AUDIO AT ALL

I just upgraded my Apple TV to the new update that came out today. It took forever to restart, seems like it restarted/installed at least 3 cycles. Finally it started up and looked beautiful.
But no audio. Nothing. I have spent over an hour now, resetting, changing settings, restarting, unpluging, new cable to between Apple TV and TV, changing settings more, changing all settings, NOTHING.
No Audio on the Music, no audio on the Videos, No audio on the YouTube, no audio on the system level functions, NO AUDIO ANYWHERE. NO AUDIO ANYWHERE. Don't even ask "what about...?" NO audio there either.
Oh and duh, yeah my Apple remote works and I have tried turning the volume up up up up, from every area of the interface, more more more more from the Apple remote.
Yes, the audio works fine on the TV, the Cable Box, the DVD player, and up until the moment I upgraded the Apple TV, my audio was awesome on the Apple TV.
I think this release has bugs, and its not pretty.
Contact me somebody. I tried to file a support issue but Apple's website does not let me submit my serial number tonight. Ewww. How sad is that?

Yes! This is what I see too.
    To sum up:
    This audio path:
    AppleTV --HDMI--> TV -- Coax(digital)--> Receiver
only works with 5.1 audio after the Take 2 update.
The menu blips and beeps work (apparently 5.1), the parent poster's Die Hard rental with 5.1 worked, and a DTS CD (also 5.1) that I have ripped into iTunes plays through the AppleTV. Everything else, i.e. all 2-channel (PCM?) audio does not work.
As shagless said, the TV itself can play the sound, but it refuses to pass the audio through on the digital output. This definitely should work... it works with my XBox360, and it used to work with the AppleTV. *_There is something bad in the digital audio stream in this new version._*
The best I can do for non-5.1 audio through to the receiver is by changing inputs on my TV, then changing back. That gets me about 2-5 seconds of audio, but then it cuts out.
I have followed all these procedures:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305211
I have also done a full restore (back to the pre-Take2 version), and verified that everything was working fine. I then reapplied the new update and it's back to not working.
I have a Philips 42" plasma with upgraded firmware.

  • Just upgraded and now phone is DEAD. Won't turn back on even holding down both start and sleep for 15 seconds! Was perfect before...help!

Upgraded my iphone4 2 days ago and now it won't power on at all. It is completly dead. Have tried plugging it in wall and computer. Have tried holding down the power and sleep buttons for 15 seconds... nothing. Please help!

You have done everything correctly so far. Try charging again with the wall charger for at least 30 minutes. Maybe the iPhone will turn on itself. If not then try the Reset again, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts, keep holding for at least 30 seconds if necessary. If still nothing, make appointment with Apple Genius and have them fix or replace your iPhone under Warranty coverage.

  • I just upgraded and now Firefox will not even open!!

Can I go back to a previous version

What happens when you try to start Firefox?
Some things that might be relevant depending on the answer...
Sometimes Firefox will "hang" during startup. The process is in memory but stops working. In that case, you may need to use the Windows Task Manager to "kill" the process.
    * You can launch the Windows task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
    * First check the Applications tab, then check the Processes tab (look for firefox.exe).
    * You can select the stalled item and use the End Task or End Process button. Note that if Firefox actually were in use, this could cause data loss, but since it's not yet displayed, this should be okay.
Sometimes a program-control firewall will block an upgraded Firefox as possibly being modified by malware. In these cases, it may help to clear any references to Firefox from the firewall and have it redetect the application when you try to start it.

  • I just upgraded and now can't cancel a print job.

The icon to delete is not there anymore. It was so easy to cancel. I'm trying to print a photo and it wanted to print on paper. That mistake will waste a lot of ink, so I want to cancel the job, but can't. Of course, I could unplug my printer, but obviously I don't want to have to do that every time I want to cancel a job. Help!

No it's not, that's the reason you should click the x if you want to cancel a print job. If is has already started, pausing it will pause a partially finished job. Subsequently canceling it may cause corrupted print output or a communications error the printer ought to handle.
If there is nothing in the print queue then the job has already been sent to the printer and your Mac is finished with it. In that case, use the printer's front panel control to cancel the job.

  • Just installed Lion.  MNow my Microsoft Office suite won't work  What's wrong

I just installed Lion.  Now my Microsoft Office Suite won't work.  What's wrong ??

If you had used the search box in the upper right of this page you could have answered this question on your own.
You have a few options: restore back to Snow Leopard from the backup you made before you installed Lion; upgrade to Office for Mac 2011; install Pages from the Mac App Store; use TextEdit; install one of the many open source Office replacements that can found.

  • I just download mountain lion to my mac,  now microsoft office suite doesn't work....it says 'you can't open the application 'microsoft word' because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.  What does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it??

I just download mountain lion to my mac,  now microsoft office suite doesn't work....it says 'you can't open the application 'microsoft word' because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.  What does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it?? HELP!!

Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice ($10)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • I downloaded mountain lion and then the new office suite (word, ppt, excel) but now when I try to display one of my ppt's it says 'ppt cannot open the file...the file may be corrupt, in use, not a type recognized by ppt etc.." how can I fix it?? HELP

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.
If that doesn't work, consider asking in the Microsoft Office: Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.

  • After installing Lion, my microsoft office suite doesn't work anymore, and show this message: Application Power PC no longer available. How can I resolve it?

Is there any possibilty to recover the use of my Microsoft Office suite, which doesn't work anymore after installing Lion?
The programs display this error message: "no puede abrir la aplicación Microsoft Excel (o any other) porque las aplicaciones Power PC ya no son compatibles"
    thanks for your help

You will need to upgrade your suite of MS programs.
Older suites, like MS Office 2004, use program versions written for Macs with PPC processors. In order to use those apps in pre-Lion OS's on an Intel-processor machine, it was necessary to install Rosetta, software designed just for the purpose of using PPC-apps on an Intel machine.
Unfortunately, Lion does not support Rosetta, so those apps no longer work.
Solution - update them to a version which will work in Lion, such as the MS Office 2008 suite, or newer if available.

  • Installing Microsoft Office Suite, and error message re: StuffIt Expander

    Hi,
I recently tried to install Microsoft Office Suite (Office2001-906UpdateEN.bin) on my computer, but keep getting an error message saying "Sorry, but this version of StuffIt Expander requires version 6.5 or newer of the StuffIt Engine. Error -43" I have StuffIt Lite 6.5.1 in my Applications folder, which includes StuffIt Expander. However, when I try opening StuffIt Expander, I get an identical error message. Can anyone help?
(FYI, since erasing my hard disk and reinstalling my applications recently, I've experienced other problems, too, such as AppleWorks' spell-check function not working, and MacLink no longer being available. I don't know if any of these problems are related -- and/or if I just made mistakes in reinstalling?)
    Thanks.

    Hi, Elizabeth -
You should be able to download the newer version of Stuffit Expander, since downloading does not involve unstuffing. Once the download has been received, your browser may be trying to invoke the version of Stuffit Expander that's on your drive in order to automatically unstuff it for you - and that's what is causing the message to be displayed.
Look for the uncompressed download, probably in a .sit or .sit.hqx format.
Then insert your latest OS 9 Install CD, and locate the Aladdin Software folder. For install CDs for OS 9.1 and later, that will here - (CD) >> Software Installers >> Aladdin Software. For install CDs for OS 9.0.4 and earlier, it will be here - (CD) >> Software Installers >> Internet Access >> Aladdin Software. Dig into the Aladdin Software folder, and you'll find an uncompresssed copy of Stuffit Expander, v. 5.5 or v. 6.0. Copy that version to the Hard drive.
Then drag the icon of the freshly downloaded (and still compressed) newer version of Stuffit Expander onto the icon of the older version of Stuffit Expander, and let go when the icon highlights - it should then be decompressed without problem.
Once that is done, run the installer for the new version.
