Just upgraded from OS 10.6.8 to Yosemite....

I knew I would have to update Epson Printer & Scanner, which they now do work, but not as smoothly as before. My MAJOR concern is PHOTOSHOP CS5 starts to launch, but then get attached error message. This is most important app being a photographer, so I really need any/all help from anyone that can get Photoshop CS5 operational with Yosemite 10.10.2. MUCH appreciated. Jim

Hello Eric, I uninstalled PShop CS5 using it's own uninstaller app. I deleted it's prefs & extensions completely, including the CS5 Bridge components. I then used Mackeeper to clean up any remaining crap, which it did. I restarted, used Mackeeper again finding more stuff to remove. I loaded the CS5 DVD and held my fingers crossed while going through long install. Restarted Mac, launched Bridge, and all was fine. opened some recent shoots, selected a pic as normal, double clicked which launched CS5, held my breath as it was opening, and VOILA!!! Photoshop CS5 was up and running. I clicked on Adobe updates, and a ton of things got updated. Restarted, and launched Pshop again, and now even had all my printing controls, and usual interface to select any/all printing controls to the Epson Photo 1400 printer. I had the most bare bones printing interface before this reinstall. All is good with my iMAC and Photoshop here!
Super happy!!!
Now, since things seem to be back to normal... I will do another full Back-Up. Thank you for the help!
PS: OS 10.10.2 must have corrupted some Adobe Photoshop files during upgrade I guess?

Reading the FAQ, it appears that after the expiry of the free trial, if I do not sign up and pay, I will only be able to view my pictures on the desktop but not edit them - surely this cannot be true. When I was signed into Adobe (which was a requirement for installing the upgrade), Lightroom 6 told my at the top right corner that I had 30 days left of my free trial of Lightroom Mobile and Creative Cloud. In parallel with this forum posting, I am chatting with Adobe support. he is away to find out how to prevent any synching with Creative Cloud during the 30 day free trial. I do not think that Creative Cloud is an application that gets installed on your PC. I think Lightroom 6 has it built in, and can use it if if you are signed up to the Creative Cloud and Lightroom Mobile (which I am for 30 days)

I have downloaded Airport Utility 5.6 to try and configure, but with no luck.

TC first gen was not simultaneous dual band. So.. it's probably best to factory reset your extreme and then tell it to extend again.

Just upgraded from OS 10.3.9 to 10.4: Safari problems

I just upgraded from Mac OS 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4; everything is working fine, except as follows:
1. Software Update does not work. It seems that it tries to connect to the Apple servers (I can see the router and modem lights blinking), but a connection does not take place (the lights blink a couple of times every few seconds).
2. Safari connects without any problems to this and other Apple Support forums, but not to any of the bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
Also, I believe that I may have caused the problem, and will give the details hoping that my problems with Safari may help others solve theirs. I may have made a mistake right after "upgrading" to OS 10.4, specifically after the required restart.
When my iMac G5 restarted, a registration form showed on the screen. The form was the data on my account. My account is not an Administrator account, but a "User" account instead. There was an option to change the account's "User's name," so I went ahead and slightly changed it by adding a "dot" to my first name initial (I don't use my first name, just my initial).

Right after making the change, I had the option to immediately connect to Apple and REGISTER, however, a connection could not be established or the computer was not responding, so I clicked on "Register Later" and quit.
Mail works fine, and so the DSL modem and router. I can access this forum, but Safari tries but can't to connect to other forums.
Do you think that by changing the User Account's name I may have screwed things up? I have tried MS's Explorer, but it too shows the same problems.
Any ideas on what to do at this point?

Steven: I know that the problems I had with Safari is not similar to yours, but I ended erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Tiger four times (I have posted the full story in a couple of Apple forums).
On the pre-final try i removed the router from the computer and only used the DSL modem. However, I decided to use Safari between Software updates, and again Safari stopped working, as well as Software Update. I had removed every USB and Firewire cable, set-up the network to stay active without interruptions, set the computer to stay awake forever, the screen to stay awake for over three hours, and the hard drive to stay awake.
Then on the final erasing/installing, I made sure that I didn't use Safari until every little update was finished all the way to a complete Mac OS 10.4.2. Once that was accomplished I used Safari, and I have been using it since.
A friend of mine is upgrading the router's firmware, just in case that was par t of the problem, but I don't think it was, since the router was out of the picture on the pre-final session.
I believe that for some reason OS 10.4 screwed the Network panel functions. If you just look at the settings they seem to be OK, but not really. The problem may be related to the G5 CPU and how Mac OS 10.4 works with it. While I was having a myriad of network problems, I could connect to the Internet, retrieve my mail, etc. using my son's Mini, as well as an old Mac 7300. Both of these worked just fine connected to the network (router and DSL). Only my iMac G5 would not work.

If you migrated all the info from time machine to your new MBP. The TM will usually ask to connect to the old backups.. sorry I am not sure is this what you want to do.. Personally I think you start a fresh backup.
BTW Time Capsule does not do anything.. it is a dumb hard disk in a box.. it is TM that does everything.

There has never been a reliable firewire ---> USB adapter suitable for external high speed storage. This was a major issue when the MacBooks lost the firewire port a number of years ago (Apple subsequently brought it back).
The only high speed port on the Air is the ThunderBolt port. There are external ThunderBolt drive options out there, but they're somewhat more expensive than traditional USB/FireWire options.

Open General preferences in System Preferences. You can set the desired scrollbar behavior there.

I have recently just upgraded from my old white powerpc G5 which did not allow me to edit in HD and I had to down convert all my footage to edit in DV. I have bought the newest FCP studio, and I had to order a new firewire as my new desktop does not take the old one that I had before. The new firewire that I have which is the only one that fits into my iMac from my sony Z1 is a Firewire IEEE1394-B (800) 9 pin to 4 pin .

All my settings are set to HD and the ilink convert is off, and VCR is set to auto. Why is it not reading my Z1???

Are you on a Mac or PC? If the former, do you have the Application Frame visible?
Could you post a screenshot of how Photoshop CS6 looks when you first open an image and have it show at the tiny size?
Chances are you've made the main Photoshop window small, which is causing it to try to fit a newly opened image in too small a space.
I'm going to make a wild guess that you're on a Mac, and have dragged the bottom edge of the Photoshop window up instead of turning off the Application Frame, so as to be able to see your desktop.
