Just upgraded to Leopard but unable to log in

I have  a G5, and I just upgraded to Leopard. It installed fine, however, now I am unable to log in. I had it set with no password, and now when I try to log in the box just shakes and won't do anything. I tried to reinstall the software, and I tried the Archieve and Install optio as well. I tried to start it in 'safe mode'. I also tried resetting the password. None of this has worked. This is my first Mac, so I'm new to this. Any helpful solutions out there?

  • I have just bought snow leopard, but my computor tells me i am not a intel based mac  help

I have just bought snow leopard . but my computer tells me it is no good as my computer is not a intel based mac

I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate mistake Catri. It should not be too difficult to sell your DVD for slightly less than you paid for it. It is too late to help you now but the following may help others reading this post.
Many people are happy with OS X 10.5.8 but if you want to update here is my general advice:
To get information about your Mac click the apple (screen top left) and select About this Mac. This will give you your OS number. Then click More Info to see which Processor you have. If it says PowerPC you cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard and above as these OSs are for Intel only. You can discover more about various Macs at: http://www.apple-history.com/
The OS numbers and names are:
    OS X 10.4.x - Tiger
    OS X 10.5.x - Leopard
    OS X 10.6.x - Snow Leopard
    OS X 10.7.x - Lion
    OS X 10.8.x - Mountain Lion
If you have an Intel Mac it is well worth upgrading to Snow Leopard now and then considering other options after that.
You can buy Snow Leopard here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
For details about upgrading this to Lion or Mountain Lion see:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z/A
In each case check that your Mac complies with the requirements.
If you are not in the US you should use the Change Country link at the bottom of the page.

  • Where did my I photo library go?  Just upgraded to Leopard on a new Imac

Where did my iPhoto Library go? I just upgraded to Leopard and went to iPhoto and there is nothing there. I'm on a 2.8 Gh Imac and did a software migration before loading Leopard. When I click media in any of the iWork suite, nothing comes up in the media inspectors. Did I lose them all?

HI TD - thanks for your response.
I did the firewire migration from the old imac G5 in Tiger. Then I loaded Leopard. My photos folder is empty on this new one. I've been thinking of uploading from the old computer before giving it over to my husband. But, if there's another way to find those photos on this iMac, that would be great.
(I had a similar dilemma with iTunes because I didn't know the music wouldn't import on it's own and found a way to make that happen, so I'm assuming that I can do the same with iPhoto, if I can find where the files are!)

  • I just upgraded to lion but mainstage won't open

just upgraded from snow leopard 10.6.8 to lion 10.7.3 yesterday.  logic 9.1.6 works fine but mainstage won't open.  it stops at the "initializing graphics" stage and goes no further.  i also note that the icon idicates it is version 2.0.0 which i thought was an earlier version but i'm not sure.  could lion have transformed mainstage back to an earlier version and not done the same to logic?  how weird!!
    any recommendations?

Contact this address below and request a new download, and that the one you have does not open or it crash whe doing so.
They open up my account and allowed me to reinstall.
My redowndloaded Mainstage is now working on my MacB Pro, and four [4] externals, with out any problems.
Hope this will help others, who are having a problem with Mainstage v 2.2.1

I have upgraded my original iMac to Leopard but want to restore it original contents for my husband to use.

News sites use the latest web technologies to provide the news.  You will need a current web browser.
Why? Just clean up the machine a bit.  Drag off the apps he will not be using from the dock.  Clean up the desktop & your are done.  So may people try to "fix" their machine by re-installing the os & run into trouble.

  • Just upgraded to Leopard and can't see individual photos in Finder

I have just upgraded my late-2007 iMac to Leopard and dragged and dropped my photo library from a back-up disc. iPhoto can use it but the individual photos aren't available to browse in the Finder...
Nor can I select an individual photo when I try to add one as an attachment in Mail- I only see the Library file as one big 6GB file.
    What can I do?

but that's a very complicated way of doing it...
So access the photos using the Photos button in the message window in Mail or use one, some or all of these
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

First, I would disconnect all peripherals except the original Apple keyboard and mouse. Boot the computer into safe mode if possible and do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your currently installed OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now, you did not indicate if this upgrade to 10.5.8 was from an earlier version of Leopard or if you first upgraded to Leopard then to 10.5.8 using the combo updater. I'm assuming the former, so after you've done the above repairs reinstall the 10.5.8 Combo Updater. If you did not use a Combo Updater, then you can download it from support.apple.com/downloads/.
If the above doesn't help then I would suggest reinstalling OS X as follows:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
And, if the above doesn't help start looking at the probability of bad RAM.

  • Just upgraded to leopard and now new keyboard won't work

I just upgraded my system to Leopard, and everything went smoothly. When I installed I had my old keyboard attached as I didn't want anything to got wrong. Now since trying to use the new white key Mac keyboard that is out now, it won't work. I tried to go into preferences under keyboard and mouse but there was no choice there to change keyboard. What can I do?

Apple's download search function is pretty messed so that may not be the right file. The one that Software Update offered for my MacBook Pro when I had the Al board attached is "Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update" and is v1.0. It was in my Utilities folder.
I had to Google to find the other link, but it's here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AluminumKeyboard_Firmware_Update_10
See if that helps. It looks like this and Leo go together, so could explain why you the board doesn't like the change.
