Just want iMovie to "Forget" iPhoto videos

Is there a way to make iMovie "Not list" all video clips from iPhoto inside iMovie 11? I have thousands of videos that load upon startup and they are all mistagged with the wrong date several cameras ago (Typically Jan 1903). I really just want iMovie to use events I import or drag inside. Can this be done or is there an easier way than date change hundreds of videos which seem to be tagged correctly in iPhoto?
//Cheers

I'd like to know this too as it's really quite annoying.
You'll probably find it's one of those 'usefull features' they have introduced in '11.
I can't understand why they do this sort of thing & not give you an option to switch it off.
It's like Faces in iPhoto, chews up memory & time everytime you import photos even if you don't use it.

  • How to make iPhoto video clips appear in iMovie 11 under "iPhoto Videos"

I use photo camera to shoot both stills and videos these days. I would like to just see all my clips in iMovie.
I tried to use Import but it is very painful to use as iMovie PRETENDS it knows nothing about iPhoto photo library. So monkying around and drugging clips out of iPhoto "bundle" is huge hustle.
Is there is a streamline way?
Apple historically make hard to do, I even had to use iMovie HD and Handbreak to to all these conversion, but I just want things to work: I want to make a cool clip to share from my iPhoto library clips.
Is there is a easy way to do it?

Normally, any compatible clips in iPhoto show up in iMovie in the Events Library under the category "iPhoto Videos". You will see this item at the top of the list in the Events Library. Clicking on it will reveal thumbnails for each clip in the Events Browser (to the right of the listing). Are you not seeing this?
If this is not the issue, you could try converting the iPhoto clips by using a program such as MPEG Streamclip. If recognised by Streamclip, convert the clips to either H.264 or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and import the converted file into iMovie. Both these formats work well with iMovie - AIC is in fact the codec that iMovie converts AVCHD clips to in order to edit efficiently at the individual frame level.
MPEG Streamclip is a free program downloadable here:

PS. Regarding the conversion, I notice that you've already tried iMovie HD and Handbrake - sorry! Perhaps MPEG Streamclip will do this more efficiently.

  • How can iMovie deal with iPhoto video better??

    Hello,
My 10 year old son has really taken a liking to home movie creation with this digital camera recording video clips. The regular digital camera that records video clips by default imports clips as .avi into iPhoto.
He then uses iMovie to find those clips in "iPhoto Videos" in iMovie. He then creates the movies and shares it to iTunes to put on his iPod Touch. Here lies the problem. He is filling up my hard drive! His user account iPhoto library is 65g and he does not have a tremendous amount of videos but when I reveal in finder to show the details of an iPhoto video it shows the folder (year and month) and I see other related folders that go along with this video. Although his videos are usually 5 minutes he speeds them up or slows them down with other effects and I think that is swelling the iPhoto Library with some of these folders being up to 2g each.
    What is the best workflow?
I tried putting his entire iPhoto library on an external but when running iMovie some the the project lost links to the associated events. Don't forget these events right now are stored in iPhoto because it is from a digital camera, not a camcorder.
    Option 1:
Is there a way to bypass the import of video into iPhoto? Each time the camera is connected it imports to iPhoto. If I got a card reader and we took the SD card out and then imported would iMovie take over or would iPhoto still import if video and stills are on same card?
    Option 2:
Import normally to iPhoto, then manually drag video clips to separate folder and 'import' them into iMovie as separate events. BUT then we have to remember to go back into iPhoto and delete those videos. That would put the video into iMovie and store it there and not into iPhoto. What a lot of work?
    Option 3:
Buy a small Kodak video web recorder and will iMovie take those in as videos?
I am assuming that storing these things in iPhoto, editing in iMovie, is creating this clutter. Please advise if this is the root of my problem. Why have these relatively short video clips consumed my iPhoto library? I think it is the effects, speed up movie ( he likes to make the voices sound like chipmunks and speed the songs up) that is creating addtional associated file in the iPhoto library.
I think it would be better to run independently in iMovie and not have all this associated with clips stored as iPhoto Videos?
I have 4 gigs left on my 250 gig HD.
    ANY help would be appreciated!!!

Importing into iMovie isn't the problem. My pal seems to be under the impression that footage transferred from the camcorder directly into his PC using Vegas (which apparently saves it as .avi) is of higher quality than footage transferred to Mac via iMovie that's then copied for him as .dv files.
I always thought that since .dv is the native format for the camcorder, then that's the original, raw material.
So, my question is really whether when this guy is playing back and editing in Vegas, if the footage transferred to his computer directly and saved as .avi is really better and sharper -- or whether Vegas is simply is tweaking the .avi footage for optimal display in a Windows machine.
In other words, once the final, edited footage is saved, will a .dv file be worse than an .avi file.

  • Does iMovie '08 store iPhoto videos somewhere?

I realize that my Camcorder Videos are downloaded to the Hard Drive (I've specified an external HD) but iMovie has also "imported" my iPhoto videos. On iPhoto I have my photos and videos taken with still cameras (can't really call them "still") - OK but with 2008-09 photos and videos only on my main iPhoto library, I have some 5000 photos and 513 videos.
I let iMovie "import" them - and now I'd like to DE-import them. I realize if I trash a video in iPhoto, then the next time I open iMovie, it is gone. But there must be a simpler way?
ALSO: Is iMovie taking-up additional HD space when it does this? It seems it is NOT duplicating the iPhoto videos-- since asking in iMovie to locate the original file takes me to my iPhoto file.
Any comments or references on how to better understand this (especially iMovie) appreciated!

iMovie does not move any of these videos. If you use them in a project, the project file will contain a link back to the location in the iPhoto library.
iMovie will use a small amount of space to hold the thumbnails that it created when you imported the videos. These don't take much space, and they enable the "skimming" feature in iMovie.
If you click on a different event (one from your camcorder), then the iPhoto videos will be reduced to one line item in your event list.
Sorry, I don't know how to turn off the iPhoto link. But I am sure that someone here does.
It sounds like you have already gone through the painful part (the initial thumbnail creation). If you add more still camera videos in the future, it will quickly create the thumbnails.

  • No iMovie sound from iphoto videos

My iphoto videos don't have any sound in iMovie unless I make them into a new project. They always worked before- what happened?

I had the exact same problem, and the solution below fixed it. Somehow my "output" had changed to my iSight. Once I changed it to Built In Audio it worked. BUT, one thing to note, you have to restart your browser in order for the changes to take effect. Because mine didn't work until I did so.
    Thanks!!

  • Just want to record motion detect video with WVC80N

All I want to do is record motion detected video while I'm at work and view it when I get home.  I don't want remote access and I don't care about email notifications.  Does someone have some SIMPLE instructions for how to get this working?  I've read many of the posts on this forum and found all kinds of complex setups involving multiple webpages and port forwarding, etc., etc.  I just can't believe it's this complicated just to set up something simple.  BTW -- I have no problem viewing live video either through the camera utility or via web browser.  I can do instant recordings, but no motion detected video.  IMHO the camera itself is great, but the support is pathetic.  Camera utility program is terrible.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you want to record motion detected video for WVC80N then install your Internet Home Monitoring Camera with the disk here is the link - http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=20543&userrole=Links... .
Then open up the Linksys Wireless-N IP camera has a built-in web-based setup. Here is the link for Installing WVC80N using the Web-Based Setup Page:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=22473&userrole=Links...
After doing all the procedure open up the utility and click on settings tab and click on browse and select the the destination where you want to save the recorded files..

  • I just want to sync photos not video from my 3gs. Possible?

Everytime I sync my 3gs with my computer videos from my 3gs that have previously synced to my computer sync over and over again.  My computer / itunes is not recognizing that it already synced the video.   It is taking all of my computer space!

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
Type "move itunes library" or similar into the google search bar to learn how to copy the itunes library.
Your computer should have a method for moving everything else (pics/docs/files/contacts/calendars/etc).

  • I inadvertently imported all of my iPhoto videos to my iMovie library.  I have tried everything possible to delete them.  I still want to keep them in iPhoto however. What can I do?

I inadvertently imported all of my iPhoto videos to my iMovie library.  I have been unable to delete them. How can I delete them from the iMovie library without deleting them fro iPhoto?

Did you import them into an Event Folder? Or are they still just showin up under the iPhoto Videos folder? Anything inside of the iPhoto Videos folder cannot be deleted, because it is under the full control and jurisdiction of iPhoto and is merely 'shared' from iPhoto and made visible to iMovie. Everything else can first be deleted, then moved to the Trash. To find the items that have been marked for deletion under iMovie '11 go to the pull-down tab at the bottom of the iMovie window frame labeled Show: and choose 'Rejected Only'. Then when you see all the clips with red stripes on them Select All (⌘ Command key + a). Then click on the button labeled Move rejected to Trash.

  • How do I get my iphoto videos into imovie

how do I get my iphoto video into imovie

1- on iphoto menu bar click FILE >> EXPORT and export it in ORIGINAL version to NEW EVENTS folder in MOVIES >> IMOVIE EVENTS >> NEW EVENTS
2- try to open the video you want with quicktime player.
IF IT OPENS WITH QUICKTIME PLAYER:
    - on imovie menu bar click FILE >> IMPORT and then import your movie. iMovie should convert it to a usable format which takes a few seconds and the your video will appear on the new event folder on the imovie screen (below "iphoto videos")
IF IT DOES NOT OPEN WITH QUICKTIME PLAYER:
    - download "MPEG streamclip" or "Handbrake" or any program to convert videos into mov. (i think that's the format quicktime player plays). Anyway, if you use MPEG STREAMCLIP, on the menu bar go FILE >> OPEN FILES >> open the file you want (remember it should be in the "new events" folder because you just put it there in step 1). The video will open on the screen.
    - still on MPEG streamclip, go on the menu bar and click FILE >> EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. This will convert the video automatically.
    - go back to imovie. On the menu bar click FILE >> IMPORT >> MOVIES and select your video from the new event folder.
This is what worked for me... I am no expert, it was all trial and error, but it worked in the end!

  • IMovie 11 does not see iPhoto videos

Using iLife 09, iMovie showed my iPhoto videos in the lower pane event browser.
    Upgraded to iLife 11.
iPhoto spent some time converting my library - but it completed; and seems fine.
iMovie, however, no longer shows the iPhoto videos. The text says no video clips match the current selection - but this never changes no matter what is selected.
My previous iMovie projects all still exist; and seem fine. The videos that were added from the event browser in '09 are also still fine within those projects.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for fixing this.

As I always have my preference set to copy items to the iPhoto Library, hopefully I won't see any problems. Once I'm running with iLife '11 (hopefully some time on Monday) I will let you know how things go.
Neville, just to let you know (as promised), everything went very smoothly with my iLife '11 upgrade. All my iPhoto videos showed up in iMovie '11 within the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library. But, as I mentioned earlier, my preferences are set to copy photos to the iPhoto Library.
After installing iLife '11, my first step was to open iPhoto and allow the database to update. Once I was satisfied that iPhoto was running OK, I then opened iMovie and waited for it to do all the upgrading. That went smoothly also, other than a warning about a Centred Title missing from one of my iPhoto Videos and that the video wouldn't play without it. I haven't bothered to track that down yet - the video wasn't identified in the warning message.
I appreciate this doesn't really help you solve your issue, but it does help to confirm that things seem to work OK when the iPhoto preference is set to the option I've selected (copy photos). Note that my iPhoto Library is located on the internal drive. I have a small number of photos that I keep in separate folders outside of the iPhoto Library - mainly stuff I've done for other people that I don't want cluttering up iPhoto (although I realise that these can be hidden in iPhoto).

  • Imovie 11 crashes when I attempt to view iphoto video tap in events.

I recently upgraded to imovie 11 on my MBP running 10.6.7. When I try to view the iphoto video tab in imovie i get the spinning ball of death. Does anyone have an idea of what is happening here.. thanks!

Without crash logs it will be difficult to pinpoint the root cause, but here are the possibilities based on what iMovie tries to load on launch:
    1. ~/movies/imovie events/
    2. ~/movies/imovie projects/
    3. iPhoto videos via com.apple.iapps.plist
    4. connected video peripherals, including cameras
    5. the root directory of all volumes, internal and external scanning for possible movie directories, such as dcim.
    6. com.apple.imovie*.plist
You can also check for installed 3rd party plugins.
What I would do, is temporary move the projects and events to the desktop and see if imovie launches. If it does then move them back systematically. If iMovie still doesn't launch with a clean workspace, then it can be attached volumes and peripherals or iphoto. You can create a new iphoto library with no videos to see if that helps.

  • Can i move iPhoto videos to events in iMovie ?

Is it ok to create a new event in iMovie and drag iphoto videos into it from the iphoto videos list in the imovie event browser, and then delete the videos in iphoto via the Trash) ?
    Thanks in advance

No. That would cause you to lose the videos.
When you use videos in iMovie from the iPhoto section of the Event browser, it is referencing the copy in iPhoto.

  • IMovie 08 Crashes when I click "iPhoto Videos"

I've read a bunch of threads on here about iMovie crashing on startup. That was happening to me, but removing the iApps.plist file appears to have fixed that... sort of.
Now, when I open iMovie and click 'iPhoto Videos' it still crashes.
I'm not sure if it's going to go back to crashing all the time...I haven't found many (any) videos in iPhoto but I know, somewhere in my vast library of stuff, there are some little videos floating around.
Are there any solutions for this yet? I'm sure my problem is related to the problem others seem to be having too.

Hi - I'm having the same problem with freeing up space on the HD. If I can't free space if I'm using any part of the clip, how can I split up the clips so that I can discard the part I won't use? This is crazy! I have only 4 GB of free space left!
Also, I've tried to transfer the project file to my external HD but I keep getting an error saying I can't transfer it. I've been told this is because I don't have enough space on the HD for the transfer. I tried a similar transfer with another computer with plenty of HD space but the same error occurred. Is there a way to break up the project file into small pieces for the transfer (I'm thinking the whole movie file is just too big)?
    Thanks for any info!

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.
