Just want to open it, not save it....
when i click to open a document or something I've received, first computer asks me if i want to open it or save it. But when i click "open" it saves it anyway in the download folder!! could somebody pls tell me how to fix that???

Just delete the files in your download folder regularly. Ten seconds once a week isn't too bad.
Although I have a question. It sounds like this is something you experience with attachments in email. Are you using Apple's Mail or some other program? I just tested opening an attachment from Mail and it did not save to my downloads--it just opened up in Word and disappeared when I closed it. If you're using a web-based email program, your attachments probably follow the default for any internet download, which is to put it in the downloads folder.

Firefox Always Wants to Open Files, Not Save
I recently had to re-install my whole OS (Windows XP Professional) and re-download Firefox (3.6.12). Before this, Firefox not only remembered what folder I wanted something saved to, it also remembered my preference was to save and not open.
Whenever I would download something that couldn't be done by right-clicking (like a zipped video file), the "Save" option was always the choice that was checked. Now, the "Open" option is always checked and no matter how many times I choose save, Firefox just won't remember. I have looked all over "Tools/Options" and can find nothing that seems to relate to this problem.
Is there some setting I can change to get Firefox to always choose "Save" as the default? I do a lot of saving that cannot be done via right-clicking and it's incredibly annoying and time-consuming to have to repeatedly change the setting manually.

There was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.
The setting you're looking for is listed in Tools | Options | General, in the centre menu. You can specify there where you want to save the files to.

That is just the way this forum works - users get help from other users and learn from others and like to contribute if they see they can help.
My latest challenge was typing in melodies and chords of songs I'd written on the piano. But using the Musical Typing in register C3 I inserted all the notes by playing on the imac keyboard (and written in the treble clef). The only problem is you cant insert the chords at the same time. Now I have an empty bass clef, which requires chords be inserted in register C2 and I dont know yet how to do that.
To fill in the chords: Join a melody track and a bass track, like this:
- Create a new software track and record the chords separately with musical typing.
- Create a new track and copy your melody loops there (just as backup, if something goes wrong)
- Do the same with the track containing the chords.
- Then select all loops in the copies of the melody track and the copy of the chords track and select from the main menu
Edit -> Join.
Now you should have a track that contains the bass as well as the melody and both staffs should be filled in the track editor, so you can print both at the same time.
However, there will be some notes assigned to the wrong staff - very low melody notes will appear in the bass cleff, very high chord notes will appear in the melody cleff - and I don't see how you could fix that in GB.

Since upgrading to Yosemite I cannot get directly to Netflix. I get a to Netflix and there is a big message about having to download/install Microsoft Silverlight. I can't get that to work and don't want it anyway. I just want to open Netflix and play the movies. What should I do?

Can you tell us whether you have Reader and if so, what version? What OS? What exactly you were doing when you had the problem (clicking a link to a pdf, opening one on your computer...etc) and what ended up going wrong (error messages...etc.) -

Exactly - Lr isn't really intended as a quick photo viewer.
Irfanview is a very good solution to that requirement. -
I just tried to open my notes app. It started to open, showing past topics/titles, and then closed immediatly. When trying to open the app again, all my notes disappeared. How can I retrieve them?

Recent history for Premiere Elements points to the program having problems when more than 1 video card/graphics card is
being used by the computer on which Premiere Elements is running. This observation may seem contra indicated by the fact
that you say that the program did work well about 2 years ago in the same setup. But other factors may have set in with regard
to drivers, drivers versions, and driver conflicts. But this factor, does need to be ruled in or out.
Can you disable one or the other card to determine the impact of this on your problem?
But, of prime concern with regard to video card/graphics card is the use of a NVIDIA GeForce card with Premiere Elements 10.
Even if your NVIDIA GeForce were the only card, Premiere Elements 10 will not work properly unless the NVIDIA GeForce driver
version is rolled back to about May 2013. This may be one of the major factors here.
a. Device Manager/Display Adapters and find out Driver Version and Driver Date
b. Read the background information for the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue

Every other computer just asks "would you like to save this or open it?" But on mine, it doesn't ask, it just takes you to someplace you can save it. I'm sure this is a really simple fix, but I can't figure it out! Thanks.

I just want to open the top cover & make a copy.
I just want to make a copy on the HP Deskjet 2541, but the wireless button keeps flashing. I have not hooked up this printer to my computer. I just want to use it for making a copy right know. When I first plugged it in & hooked it up, I was able to make copies just fine. But all of a sudden the wireless button & control panel display lights keep flashing, and I cannot make a simple copy.

I would like to assist you today with resolving the blinking light error state that you're experiencing on your HP Deskjet 2541 All-in-One Printer. Now, the blinking wireless light shouldn't be affecting your copy function. When the blue wireless light blinks it just means that your HP Deskjet is 'searching' for a wireless network. Because your machine is used as a standalone copier this wireless light status doesn't have any affect. However, the other blinking control panel lights may be indicating that there is an actual error state occuring on your machine.
Unfortunately, you did not indicate what other control panel display lights keeps flashing. Therefore, I will not be able to provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps at this point. Please take a look on your printer and verify exactly what blinking or solid lights you see on your printer as I will need to know.

Once the support document opens please follow the steps that match the blinking light pattern you see on your machine.

Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud, but the mac app store says its already installed and won't let me upgrade. when I check the version of pages I am running it says 4.3. I just want to be able to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad. How can i get Pages 5.0?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got Pages 5.0, but you still have got Pages 4.3, so Pages 4.3 is being opened instead of the newest version, being this the reason why you get a message telling you to update Pages to the most recent version.
If you don't need the old version, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete the old Pages icon or move it to an external drive. I don't recommend you to do this, as users are complaining about the lack of features of the new version.
Instead, what you can do is to put the new Pages icon in the Dock by dragging it from the Finder window to the Dock, so you can open the new Pages version from the Dock and you can open all your documents with it after opening the application -
Please give an option to just open and run a download without saving.
I have a bunch of the things saved in the download folder that I have no clue what all of it is. Please I do not want to save everything I download, I would like to just open a file move on.

for these :
1.open downloads from menu button on right or by simply pressing (Ctrl +J )
2.Then select the downloaded file you want to delete by a single click on it.
3. You will find a folder type icon on right side of that , in which you should click.
4. Then it will open folder where the selected file saved.
5. Then you can delete that file .

I duplicated it impropelry. I didn't want to duplicate all the reference files etc... I deleted it...and perhaps went too far in deleting other items. Now my project is gone from my timeline. Is there anything I can do to retrieve my work?
Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?
