Just wanted to share something cool...

Want to see something cool?
Check out the counters on my site - looks like a .Mac counter but it's actually Statcounter! Cool, right???
Code swap via script by Cyclosaurus - I know he has already shared it with several people from the forum so if you like it you should email him and I am sure he will share!
And now I am sure he will disown me for saying that, ha! (Had his blessings to post about it but not to tell everybody to ask about it.) I will refrain from posting his URL to try to redeem myself!
Have fun

Thanks for that upbeat post, cjsiv.
I'm 100% with you on the PC>Mac switch.
I'm VERY happy I got my 24" iMac. (Just got it Oct. 30th.)
Yeah, it was 2 grand; yeah, I coulda paid a lot less on a powerful PC, but it would not have been as complete and satisfying of an experience as getting an iMac.
I laughed, I actually laughed when I got the iMac home, took it out of the box and found ONE cord to plug in! The power cord. I gleefully plugged that baby in. I was so used to connecting this to that to the other thing... with all the PC's I've built.
I use Logic Pro now as my main app - making music. It is SO rock solid. I can't tell you have many issues I've had on a PC - compatibility issues, playback glitches and hiccups, etc. I still have this leftover anxious habit of saving my work at every turn for fear the app will crash and I'll lose all my editing. Running Logic on this iMac is slowly rebuilding my feeling of confidence in making my music on a computer.
For me, just like you, I can say about my Mac conversion 'Everything has worked as designed.'

  • I just want to share files

I'm upgrading because we need an application that only runs on the server.
But I just want to share files and we're all friends so when I create a document someone else should be able to modify it and not get a message that it's read-only. I made the user account and I made a group. I put all the users in the same group but I still not able to collaborate.
Multi-user for multi security, but we just want to get work done!

You need to add an Access Control List (ACL) entry to the share point on which your group needs read & write access:
    1. Enable ACLs for the volume that houses the share point (shared folder): Click Sharing in Workgroup Manager, then click All. Locate the volume and check "enable access controls on volume," then click Apply.
    2. Click Share Points and select the desired share point. In the ACL list in the Access section, click the Users & Groups button and drag your group into the list. Choose "Read & Write" from the pop-up menu and verify that the inherit settings apply to all child files and folders as well as the parent (inherited will be no). Apply changes.
    3. If you already have files or folders in the share point, mount that share point on a client computer and copy each file/folder off, delete it, then copy it back to the share point. This way, it will inherit the ACL information you set in step 2. From now on, new files created in the share point (or copied to it) will inherit the privileges set in step 2.

  • Just wanted to share with my fellow mac addicts

About two weeks after Apple made the intel switch, my wife surprised me with a shiny new imac core duo. I had been obsessing over one since I got my new 5g ipod a few months before. Making the switch to mac has been the best experience of my life as far a computing is concerned. The photos and videos of my 2 year old daughter are nothing short of amazing when combined with mac software. This has led to another 5g ipod and a shuffle. Yesterday we ordered a c2d black macbook to replace my wife's laptop pc. (The glowing apple on the matte black was easily worth the price difference). We are officially a mac family now. So excited I just had to share! Hope everyone else is having great experiences also. BTW: Have had no software, firmware, or ipod problems from day one. Everything has worked as designed. With all the problems posted on the forums (I know that is what they are for and everyone has been very helpful with my posts) I just thought it would be nice to see some positives for a change.

Thanks for that upbeat post, cjsiv.

  • Help! Just want to share DSL between new iMac & existing Windows laptop

I have existing laptop running on Windows XP, connected to a DSL modem via ethernet cable. The modem also has an additional USB slot.
I want to access the Internet from my new iMac G5, using the same DSL line, but not share anything (files, printer, etc) with the laptop (in other words, I have no desire to "network" with the laptop).
Can I just connect the iMac using the USB port? Also, do I need a router/firewall to make things easier/more secure?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Theoretically you could connect to the modem via USB, but other than Alcatel, no other modem manufacturer supplies USB drivers for Mac, and even those Alcatel's are not that reliable.
Yes, a NetGear router would work. Pretty much any router, as networking and IP are platform independent and will work with any OS.

  • Just wanted to share..

i just woke up one day to find out that my ipod is being swarmed by red ants.. it went inside through the dock port.. my ipod still works it just bothers me because in the first place why would ants go inside it? and they could have damaged something inside it.. any clues about the cause of this?
    thanks!

Wow! That's certainly a new one.
I would imagine that they went in to make a nest. Let's hope that they haven't started yet. Yes, they could cause problems with the hard drive. I suggest that you find a way to make it uncomfortably warm or uncomfortable cold so that they come out.
I have no clue what temperatures will annoy the ants enough but you do want to ensure that you don't achieve temperatures that will harm the iPod. According to Apple, (see page 3), you can safely store (NOT operate) the iPod from -20 to +45 degrees Celsius (-4 to +113 degrees Farhrenheit).

  • Just want to share!

    Hello,
This post is to inform you of isues that I had at your store near Flatirons, in Colorado on today!   Several years ago I bought Broadband to Go at Best Buy and it always worked great. While on vacation in Florida, I lost it while on vacation and knew I would need it when I returned to my parent's home in a small town in Louisiana.  I teach online classes and depend on the internet in order to do my work. I, therefore, went to Best Buy and shared my story with the salesman. I shared that I was on vacation in Florida near the store but planned to go to a small town; needed the internet and wanted to replace my Broadband to Go. He told me that Best Buy did not sell Broadband to Go anymore but T-Mobile Hotspot was the "same thing"; so I purchased it. Once I got to the small town in Louisiana and attempted to set up the hotspot; it did not work. I called T-Moble and they told me they did not provide coverage for the area and I could return the items to Best Buy and get my money back. They told me that the salesman should have checked coverage in the area that I planned to use it in.
When I got back to Colorado, I went to the Best Buy near Flatirons and was told that I could return the device but not the prepaid card. The salesperson was young and very inexerienced and obviously not well trained in dealing with customers. He told me that there was no way I could get my money back from the prepaid card and then proceeded to tell me it was my fault and the salesperson could not know that I was not going to use the card in Florida....and that it was my fault because I did not share the information (although I told him that I had informed the Florida salesman that I needed it for a small town; and he did not let me know that it should be checked). This youngster tried to make me feel like I was supposed to know all of this and it was my fault...when my husband joined me he changed his tune and offered to call the manager.  The manager came out...and he was even worst...he told us that we could have scratched the number on the back and used the number ...although he ended that by saying..."not saying that is what you did". Both of these guys were insulting, rude and off puttting.
My husband and I  spent thousands of dollors at Best Buy; you can bet we are paying off our current balance and closing our account. The amount we were dealing with is  50 bucks.... but the 50 bucks is not the issue. The issue is.. I take exception at being accused of stealing. I am amazed you hire salesmen who are willing to forfeit good customers over 50 bucks while actually calling the customer a liar and cheater...for  50 bucks!
We were told the Pepaid Card in not refundable...even though I could not use it. Why would you sell a product that you cannot stand behind? You sell the product but are unable to refund the cost of the product even when it was not usable? When I asked how could I tell the product did not work without opening it and using it; I was told in a very condescending voice that that is something I should have known! Wow!
Needless to say, I am closing my account and will not spend a dime in your store again. These so called "liars and cheaters" will take their  hard earned "honest" money somewhere else!
    Melinda

    Good afternoon Melinda1957,
Welcome to the forum, and thank you for sharing your feedback. I can imagine your surprise and frustration at finding out you could not use the hotspot in the small town where your parents live in. I personally used to live in the country and purchased a hotspot for my work also, so I know firsthand how important it is to have good coverage. It sounds like the employee, and manager you spoke to at the Broomfield, CO store were not very sympathetic when you explained the situation, and I sincerely apologize if you felt offended by them.
However, per the terms and conditions of our Return and Exchange Promise, the prepaid card falls under the final sale and non-returnable items category, and I am very sorry if this was not explained to you at the time of purchase. I also assure you I will be documenting your experience for further training opportunities. Policies aside, there is never an excuse for our employees to be rude and condescending. We expect all our employees to treat our customers with professionalism and respect.
Once again, I am very sorry for any frustration and disappointment you may have experienced. I hope you will give us another opportunity in the near future to offer you a much better experience.
    Respectfully,

  • I just want to say something....

I received my new Iphone 4 about a week ago. 32GB Not one dropped call. I live in a "fringe" area that has NO 3G, and we are between about 3 cell towers and on the very edge of each one. It is an RV park so I get to compare my coverage/phone with folks passing through. This 4G is picking up better signal than my 3G did, so far NO dropped calls. Wi-Fi reception from the office was "iffy" on the 3G, but this phone picks it up great, and I love the smooth interface and the new features.
    THANK YOU APPLE

    My point exactly
I have been avidly reading the Iphone 4 hardware forums, but, ya know, my 3G has been my constant companion for over two years now. I enjoyed every minute. This phone is MILES ahead of it. It is not just my phone, it's my computer on the road!!

I am soooo disappointed with the apple customer service at the local store in Tampa......every time they give u an appointment and make people wait for hours......there was some cosmetic problems with the screen of my Mac book pro....they replaced it but the computer would not turn on....and btw when I went to pick up my computer the representative handover my computer to another guy without checking his id who was there to pick up his phone.......then I had to take it back second time this time they messed up my iWork...I took it back but they couldn't retrieve my history of purchase of iWork...and then when I installed the iWork at home...none of the applications is working.... .I will have to take is back fourth time.....I loved apple products but may be not anymore.......

Other than what Shotist007's remarks (which solves nothing) your experience is not common. First I would speak to the store manager to get things rectified for you. If that doesn't work out then I would contact AppleCare and speak to a customer service representative and complain via that venue.

  • I just want to share my story

I have an iPod Touch 1st generation with a "Paulfrank"
rubberize cover until 2 weeks ago.(a long story BUT AMAZING)
I was driving from Dufferin to McCowan by 407 in the rain atat lease 130km (I know I am speeding).
Then go south towards Kingston Road. After I drop off my mom, i have to drive to Yonge and Ellington to work,
After work,I drove back to Midland and Kingston Road.
On the way there, someone horned and he told me through his car's window,
"YOU HAVE A CELL PHONE ON YOUR BUMPER!!!!"
Oh no! is my ipodtouch that i cannot find since the daybefore!!!!!
It STAY on my bumper after all these driving, I give the credit to the rubberize cover.
I highly recommended these type of cover to protect your ipod touch.
They are rubberize soft cover and with the pattern pop up .

I would say its more on your bumper. I drove around for a week with a sock on my back bumper.....

  • Hi , just wanted to know something about Youtube

Hey all. Here is the deal. I am a firefighter and I am putting a presentation together about safety while on the job. There is some great footage on youtube that I can use. So, is there any way that I can download clips off youtube and then edit them on Final cut?

    Hi,
you'll need to contact the authors of the you tube videos and ask permission (find their details in their profile)even if you are doing this for a very good cause. You could ask for a full res version if they agree.
However, here is what you need in order to download the videos from YouTube:
    http://www.zamzar.com/
Click on "Download videos" tab, copy and paste the link from you tube, choose conversion format, give your email address and you will receive the downloaded file to your mail box.
