Just won't start up anymore.

A Duel 2 GHz G5 won't start up anymore. After and if it restarts, it keeps asking me it can't find Mouse and wants to search for Bluetooth mouse and such. Reset SMU and am in the process of restarting G5 at this moment. Fan is going crazy right now with blue screen just now opening. At least I am getting the blue screen. Before I was finally getting desktop but nothing else but machine wanting to search for Bluetooth mouse and such but never consistent. Sometimes start up would take forever but never finished. Kept asking for Bluetooth mouse. Just crazy. Fan is still going crazy and still blue screen.
Any ideas? Need help now Please!

Had to power button shut down 10 times to finally get tray open and ran DiskWarrior. Only been two weeks since last ran but critical issues repaired. After running DW restart and same thing. Fan running like crazy and won't finish restart. Sounds like problem previous message from Michael Vejar is having.
Will have to force shut down and take in to store for further work.

  • Just won't start...

    (Sounds like a car, right?)
    I'm in the middle of building a simple flash slideshow, using alpha fades between images. I have three layers, the first one being text, on the timeline for each layer/image. The other two layers are images, small footprint (sized and optimized in photoshop, each less than 100k). When I hit the Enter key it will play on timeline but the preview and fla file just won't start, hung up on the first frame - can't figure this out and I'm guessing I did something somewhere but I can't find it... I've got a more work to do on this one - any ideas?
    I haven't got to using any scripts yet, I figured I wouldn't have to at this point since there's really no interactivity (yet)...

    I must have done something to the file... I started over and the new one is working perfectly... I would normally like to let someone attack the problem file, as I support the community but to be honest I'm on limited time... But thank you for your efforts! I really do appreciate it!
    I guess it's like, "when in doubt, reboot"... I should have tried starting over before posting but frustration took over... me bad...

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Help! - my G5 won't start up anymore

    When I woke my G5 1.8DP on 10.4.11 (Jan 05) this morning from sleep it froze and the fans went really loud.
    I had to restart it with the power button, but it doesn't start up anymore now. The fans go on and turn really loud after about 2 minutes and the screen stays black (in sleep mode - lights pulsing). I can hear some of the usual whirring start-up noise. The light on the front doesn't go on, only when I press the power button to turn it off again it lights up. I did that a few time, disconnected it from the power supply, but no change. No start up sound, but I turned my computer on mute anyway.
    When I opened it up I noticed that it was really dusty inside. I cleaned it all up (carefully) but no change.
    It won't react to anything, so I can't reset the PRAM, insert the startup disc or do anything else.
    No external backup (I know...) I could start from either.
    I didn't do anything unusual and it has been working well even after he last update a few weeks ago. Just did lots of different, high memory things with it since last shutting it down.
    Any ideas what I can do?
    I have deadlines tomorrow and tons of work on at the moment... AAArghhh
    Many thanks in advance!

    Brought an iMac back home from work so that I can do stuff here as well. And keep checking for any feedback.
    Just had a look - my computer was bought in March 2004 - so it's one of the older versions, which are not directly addresses in the topic.
    I just tried the previous suggestions again, but no change.
    I managed to get the start-up disc in, bit it won't mount from it (it does move the disc around though - can hear it). It seems more and more that, although there is some power, there's no power to the hard drives as nothing comes up at all
    Anybody else has another idea?
    Battery? Power cable?
    Might bring it to the shop tomorrow.

    Since it's a Mid 2011, take it in for service, it's still under warranty.
    Try charging it up and a SMC, PRAM reset, Hardware Test

  • Firefox just won't start, but IE starts ok ~ I have uninstalled Firefox and downloaded Firefox and reinstalled, but still won't load ~ no error messages show

    I have run Firefox with no problems for years, but all of a sudden the last 2 days it just won't load. IE and email works okay. I was able to download Firefox by using IE to get on the internet, but I just can't get Firefix to work. Have rebooted a number of times.

    I am running XP/Pro SP3. Last Patch Tuesday I installed the latest Microsoft updates. Yesterday I updated Firefox from 3.6.11 to 3.6.12. Since then I have been unable to start Firefox.
    Using the desktop icon, using the start menu icon, double clicking firefox.exe all do nothing - a slight flurry of activity and then nothing.
    There are no reports in Event Viewer relating to Firefox.
    As reported by another, Internet Explorer works.
    I just installed 3.6.11 over top of 3.6.12 and Firefox works again.
    Since I would rather have the security updates of 3.6.12, I hope you can get to the bottom of this soon.
    Thanks

  • Itunes just won't start after the upgrade

    I've upgraded my itunes, and done all the double checks I've found on this site. My itunes just will not start after the upgrade. It's frustrating to say the least because I can't even access my libary or edit my ipod. I've tried everything including uninstalling and reinstalling.. please help! I wanted to put my audio books on my ipod for a roadtrip tomorrow!

    Thanks Katrina. I was able to find what I needed through the link that you provided.
    To those that are having this problem, here's what I did to fix this issue:
    +If I have a computer or device that does not work well with an AWD with the latest update, how can I install previous (earlier) versions of firmware?+
    +1. Open AirPort Utility.+
    +2. From the AirPort Utility menu, hold the Option key *(Control key in Windows XP and Vista)* and choose Check for Updates....+
    +3. Select the specific firmware version you require.+
    +4. Click Download.+
    +5. Select your base station and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click on the AWD icon.+
    +6. Choose Base Station > Upload Firmware.+
    +7. Select a firmware version and click OK.+
    +An important note about installing firmware+
    +After you have successfully installed a firmware update, AirPort Utility will wait for the AWD to restart. Once the AWD is available, AirPort Utility will display the standard configuration setup window with the Manual Setup and Continue buttons. Unless you intentionally wish to change some configuration of one of your apple Wireless Devices, you do not need to click Continue. At this point, simply quit AirPort Utility. Your AWD should be functioning correctly.+
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1218
    I chose firmware: Airport Extreme with 8-2.11n (Fast Ethernet) 7.3.2 Be patient, as Airport Utility will report that it can't find the AEBS, but after a short while mine was back. I did not roll back my version of Airport Utility.
    All appears to be normal and the iTunes library is rebuilding as I type this. Hopefully, Apple will figure out what's causing the problem with firmware 7.4.1

  • Simple script in /usr/local/bin just won't start - SOLVED

    I put this really simple script for starting psi into my /usr/local/bin, set it a+xr and added /usr/local/bin to my path. However, I just can't start the damn thing.
    Here's the script itself (I really don't think there's something wrong with it, since if I type it in the shell it works fine):
    #!/bin/zsh/
    #start psi, never stop
    while true;
    do psi;
    done
    Here's my users $PATH:
    ─$ print $PATH
    /bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/bin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/kde/bin:/opt/mozilla/bin:/opt/qt/bin
    Here's the permissions of the script:
    $ ls -lah /usr/local/bin
    total 4.0K
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 Dec 15 03:52 ./
    drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 240 Dec 10 18:55 ../
    -rwxrwxr-x 1 kamagurka users 60 Dec 15 03:51 psi.start*
    And here's what happens when I try to execute it:
    $ psi.start
    zsh: command not found: psi.start
    So, I'm either missing something incredibly obvious, or something freaky's going on here. I hope it's the former.
    EDIT: I had no idea where to put this, so I put it into Desktop Env since I'm trying to start a graphical app, but feel free to move it.
    EDIT: Yea, I was being a little dense.

    smoon wrote:Not sure if that's the problem, but try removing the trailing / (slash) from your script's shebang.
    See, something really obvious. Stupid, even. You can see, I don't do a lot of scripting.

  • G5 just won't start up

    Can anyone help me? My G5 Powermac is less than two years old. Under warranty, after a power cut, it refused to start. It was mended by Apple. I bought a power surge protector. Today, the same thing happened again. Although the little light is on, the computer simply won't start up. I've tried disconnecting all peripherals, unplugging and plugging back in etc etc. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? I never had a minute's trouble with my G4 - oh how I miss it!

    Hello! The early g-5's had a pmu reset button next to
    the battery on the motherboard but the laste 2004's
    used a smu. If it has the button push it once (with
    everything off) and then startup. If it's a late 2004
    unplug the power cord wait a few min and plug it back
    in to rest the smu. Tom

  • IMac just won't start up!

    I'm running out of ideas here, fellas.
    My first-generation iMac G5 won't start up. I turn it on and it only goes up to the screen with the gray Apple logo. It never gets to the point of the spinning gear. After a while, the fan makes a constant loud sound.
    I have read similar posts but I have a more complicated situation: even before this start-up problem, my iMac's internal optical drive had died out, so I've been using an external one.
    So far I've done the following (with peripherals removed):
    Reset PRAM
    Reset SMU
    I've also tried doing the following with the external drive:
    Hardware Test
    Run Mac OS X Install CD (Both original and Tiger)
    Nothing going, and my warranty's out.
    Help?

    Might be worth trying a new PRAM battery, alternativeman. It is a CR2032 lithum button battery - used in many calculators, remote controls, etc etc and available from any electronics part store (and many other places too) for a couple of dollars (or from an Apple dealer for about $50).
    Very easy to replace on this model. See http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacG5allModelsBackupBattery.pdf

  • Mac Pro won't boot to disk array after Mac OS 10.6.8 combo update. Array two partition are there, just won't start off them anymore. Help, please

    My 2009 Mac Pro with Highpoint RocketRAID 3522 would no longer boot of the disk array as it had before. Boots off internal HD (still running 10.6.2), sees the array in the Finder, both volumes there pass Disk Utility Repair Disk tests, they show up in System Preferences - Startup Disk. TechTool Pro 5.0.7 sees nothing wrong with the primary boot partition. (didn't try the clone still with 10.6.7) **** frustrating. Tried reinstalling latest firmware for card. Nothing reported by the drives in way of any failure. zapped the PRAM, tried booting with option key, it doesn't show the array but two copies of the internal HD. Running out of ideas. Any out there?

    I am having the same problem with my HPT 4321.  After upgrade, wont boot.  Shows up everyone as bootable disk (even when holding option at startup) but Mac will not boot off it.  I installed a fresh 10.6.8 copy onto a usb drive and HPT drivers work so might just be something to do with the main drive being bootable.  To complicate things, the Snow Leopard DVD doesn't have the drivers to see the array so cannot use it for troubleshooting.  It will not start in safe mode. Downloaded combo updater to try and re-update but it doesn't let you install it on another drive.  HPT driver installer doesn't allow you to install on another drive so also can't re-install driver.  Only choice seems to be install OS on new disk and recreate everything from scratch, then SuperDuper back to HPT drives and hope that it was a corruption during the update but not sure that it will boot even after all that work.
    Anyone have a working computer with 10.6.8 and booting off a Highpoint RAID card?

  • Xorg 1.8 just won't start

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded my Xorg for the nth time. Since it used to crash all the time, i was doing a rollback every time. But now i really want to get it working, and i just can't seem to find the problem. I just did a complete format (i wud have had to anyways, computer was getting full of junk).
    Problem seems to happen when upgrading to these :
    * kernel 2.6.35
    * nvidia 256.53-1
    * Xorg 1.8.1.902 (1.8.2 RC 2)
    What happens :
    * I can get to a TTY just fine on the boot.
    * I can use startx or xinit, with or without a ~/.xinitrc (i tried having openbox and xfce4 in this).
    * When using startx or xinit, screen goes black, but computer is still running
    * I cannot ctrl-alt-F1 to the TTY (as a matter of fact keyboard and mouse don't seem to work at all)
    * Before i used to have logs in Xorg.0.log, but now it's always empty.
    * X started a few times, on a random basis (i can reboot - log - startx 10-15 times before it works, it's just luck, i don't change anything in-between).
    I tried :
    * Following every steps and notes in the "installing arch", "Nvidia" and "Xorg" wiki pages.
    * Using an xorg.conf file generated by nvidia-xconfig
    * Removing the xorg.conf completely (xorg.conf.d is populated though)
    * Wiki said not having dbus running could be an issue - so i quadrupled checked that
    * modprobe'ing nvidia module manually - no error there
    ... and all of that failed to be useful.
    I have a new installation of Archlinux x86_64 (downloaded 3 days ago), followed everything to the letter. I used to fail as well on my 2 years-old installation though... thought a fresh install could fix that.
    As i said, Xorg.0.log is empty now (and when it wasnt, there was no error, only a few WW concerning font paths... i doubt that's any relevant), so i don't know what log/config files to put here.  Just ask for them and i'll post them here.
    I have no idea what to try anymore, aside from a rollback - but i'd rather get this to work. Any thoughts?
    Thanks alot
    jni

    xf86-input-evdev and udev => yes
    As for the caps lock and numlock leds... erm, yes and no. They do turn on and off, but without me pressing anything. They just keep flashing. I tried 3 different keyboards too, 2 USB, 1 PS/2, same behavior.
    Some hardware (from inxi -F) :
    * Kernek 2.6.35-ARCH x686_64
    * CPU : intel core2 qud Q9550 @2.8ghz
    * Gfx : nVidia GeForce 9500 GT
    * Audio : Intel 82801JI (ICH10) - onboard
    * Net : Realtek RTL8111/8168B
    * Disk : 2 WD caviar black (1To and 640Gb) - no raid or funky stuff here (for now lol)
    * Not a laptop
    Hope that help.
    Thanks again everyone!

  • Premiere elements 11 program won't start/open anymore.

    I was using at 7am no problem and my computer died (it has done that numerous times before and i've never expeirneced this problem, just died because the power chord is loose) and then i go to finish editing around 4p and now the program won't open. everythingelse (google, files, media, other programs) run and open fine but not premiere. I am not tech savvy and don't really understand what other forums are saying, i'm definitely consumer level. please please help, i don't want to lose my work.
    I have windows 7 (I think)
    If you need specs i need a walk through how to check. Its a dell computer that can run world of warcraft just fine so i don't think its the driver or graphic card, and again premiere was working just this morning.
    Its a dell i've had for 3 years.

    Typically I start with lots and lots of questions to define the situation.
    In view of the circumstances that you describe, I am going to start with a suggestion rather than questions. Then, if the suggestion does not work, then I will send a lot of questions your way.
    Delete the Premiere Elements 11 settings file, named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs. In Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the path to it is:
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
    and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 11.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
    We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks.

  • New Core Duo just won't start up again

    Hi Everyone,
    I am having a problem with my shiny new Core Duo Mini which I received yesterday. I would contact Apple support but today is a public holiday in Australia so I figured I would try the forums.
    All went well with the set up. I ran software update and got all the updates (10.4.6, iPhoto, iTunes, Java, Front Row, and a couple of others that I can't remember) and did a reboot. All was fine.
    I opened up iPhoto and imported all my photos but as it neared the end of the import the machine just cut out, gave me a black screen, made it's boot-up chime and started rebooting. I have owned Mac's for years and never had one do this to me before.
    I figured maybe I had worked it too hard (I just imported 12000 raw images which probably gave it a good workout) so I thought I would do a shut down and let it cool down for a while. Before I got a chance to shut it down it cut-out again and powered off.
    I left it for a while then tried to start it up but all I got was the flashing power LED (it flashes very breifly about once a second - sort of like blip............blip...........blip.........blip......... etc. ) and no display signal. I checked out Apple Support and tried a PRAM reset using CMD-OPT-P-R and SMC reset by unplugging all the cables and leaving it for a few minutes but to no avail.
    I am using Apple wireless keyboard and mouse and I when it all started to go wrong I had an external firewire drive connected. I also have a blank CD stuck in the drive that I can't eject.
    I wondered if it had somehow changed the start-up drive and is looking for another start-up disc or something?? At this point any advice would be really appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Paul.

    Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   512MB, Apple Wireless KB & Mouse

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for that. I tried ejecting the CD as you suggested by holding down the mouse button (I tried with both my Apple wireless mouse and an old MS USB mouse that I have) but it won't spit the CD out.
    When I power-up the Mini the CD drive makes the usual mechanical noises that it should and it spins up for a few seconds but all the while I still have the flashing power LED and nothing else happens. I noticed that when I used the MS mouse the optical sensor on the bottom of the mouse didn't light.
    I am suspecting that this Mac Mini may be taking a trip back to Apple very soon.
    Thanks again for the suggestions.
    Paul.
