Just Wondering....Report this Post?

Hello,
Just today, I noticed below everyone's post, there is 'Report This Post' button.
What is that for?
Silly question, but I was just wondering.
Thanks.

Hi Christoph *
The report this post button is for reporting inappropriate content or posts that violate the ToU (http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa).
You are seeing this because you have reached level 2 on these forums (more info about levels in ToU documentation). You are now also able to post in the User tips library (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=599)

Today I just noticed a link at the bottom of posts that says "report this post". I became level 2 two days ago, and am wondering if this is new to level 2 users, or if it is new to all users as of today (march 1st). I didn't notice this yesterday, but I have been known to miss things...

    Hi maciscool,
    (I agree with your name
Yes, this ancient feature was disabled until last week, that's why you didn't notice it.
Also, I'm not sure it is available to Level 1 members.

If so that is not the charger ,that is the cable
The charger is the device that plugs into the mains socket

  • "Report this Post" Messages Bounced to Email

The last two times I used the "Report this Post" link the messages bounced back to my email address from a third-party server. I don't know if the problem resulted from a misconfigured co-location server or Apple's mail server, or if it was the result of an iframe injection or other cross-site scripting attack. I sent several messages directly to Apple about this but have not received a response. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • 2006-Apr-25 "Report this post" change...

    Hello, friends,
I noticed last evening (MDT in U.S.) that a "report this post" link has begun to appear on threads.
    (I'm "L3.")
Personally, I'd seldom used the function when 'twas granted in the previous edition of Apple Discussions. So, for clarity, I presume its intent is to facilitate communicating egregious instances of misbehavior that don't comply with the Use Agreement...?
Thanks to Apple folks for returning this function, which I'd read had been "in the works" for some time. Are there any other "new" functions that I missed — or anything similar on the "to-do" list?
    Thanks again,
    Dean

Btw, I intermittently request that a Host "wrap" (or "fold," as you put it, Brian Z.) a post within a thread that's become difficult to read. Would that also be considered appropriate to "report this post," or would a stand-alone message be preferable
In my experience, the Hosts generally prefer that any issue that they need to decide upon is brought to their attention using the 'Report this post' link. That would include wraps and folds and other formatting issues; perceived violations of the ToU; posts that need to be moved; duplicate posts, etc. Use the "Optional Reason" field to draw their attention to the specific issue you are concerned with.

  • I just bought my first iphone 4 actually i bought two and for some reason on both phones one of the speakers does not work im just wondering if this is normal because i took it back to the store and they told me all of the phones are the same?????

There is only one speaker, what looks like another speaker is actually a microphone. All iPhones only have one speaker down by the dock connector.

  • "Report this post" has disappeared just when I need it

I think the moderators should take a look at this - this guy's threads seem to start of sensibly enough before deteriorating into paranoia.
    AK

Not all people have lost the button.
However, you have posted to the right location if you felt a thread required reporting.
    Austin,
I don't think your thread needs reporting so much as someone to clarify that what has happened is not a hack, but rather a misunderstanding of how network updates can fail. It is possible they have a bad router, or a bad routing software that doesn't work with their system, or both have decided to turn on a routing setting that blocks software update, or they have an internet service provider that has blocked the right port.
It would seem one poster jumped to conclusions, and the other is just not able to post as frequently as the other would desire.

  • "Report this post" still for level4/where are "points"?

a privilege of level4 was to report the "abuse" of the forum; that option is still availabe only for level4 gurus.. but we don't have anymore any levels... (??)
in term of use, I do read an explination of "points", but MyProfile doesn't display any such "points"....
that is a kind of inconsistency, isn't it...?

    Hi Tom,
thanks for your profound statement...- but... (<<in the iM's forums I'm well known for my buts... single t):
software has to fullfill many standards; at first that of the IT dept, who has to handle it on a daily/minute basis... but there's another group of followers: the users (user alarm!!)... I studied a long time ago "communications" (whatever that means).... so, my dimensions are not server-load, perfomance, bandwidth etc, but usability, simplicity, content, et al.
my O.P. concernd the point/level thing... I complained the lost of level-indicators, because I'm used to use them as quality indicators; that's why I wrote never change..., because changing something, I experienced as reliable & good is just "allowed" by something "better"... which I haven't found yet, even more, the level systems still works in some "stealth mode", isn't transparent for the average user as me......
your statement/background info touches the p.o.v. of an engineer... who has to hold a system stable with 100k of users, 24/d, with zillions of posts... chapéau for that!.... my Qs is from the the other side's p.o.v....
that's no critic against you, Tom, .. I just hoped for some "commend about future products"....

  • Hi just wondering what this means in normal terms?

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
      at com.adobe.captivate.flv::CaptivateFLVPlayer/StateChange()
      at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()

      at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch()
    at flash.utils::Timer/tick()
This is for my major project in Year 12 Multimedia, and is an error that is causing my exported Captivate project to crash, i know its captivate but the problem resides in flash, so I figured someone here could help. I basically just click on a link to another slide then flash crashes, only after you click a couple of slides though. If more detail is needed, let me know

In its simplest form, the 1009 error indicates that one of the objects being targeted by the code is out of scope.  This could mean that the object....
    - is declared but not instantiated
    - doesn't have an instance name (or the instance name is mispelled)
    - does not exist in the frame where that code is trying to talk to it
    - is animated into place but is not assigned instance names in every keyframe for it
    - is one of two or more consecutive keyframes of the same objects with no name assigned in the preceding frame(s).
When the 1009 error involves a component it can sometimes mean that the component itself might be missing from the library even though the class has been imported.  Or it could be that the object is somehow removed before code is able to access it.  See the following posting for an issue that is similar, if not the same as yours... Why would FLVPlayback throw a null reference exception from an internal method originating from a timer event?

  • "Report this post" feature

Have I missed something or has this feature just been turned back on again for Level 3s?

    Hi JDee
Thanks for the prompt answer - just as quick as ever
I thought they usually include some form of announcement that appears in the sidebar, or have I missed that?

  • Report a post

How do you report a post (actually there are 5 of them just the same):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1190029&tstart=0
I guess Apple Discussions server did not update properly lately because I still do not have the "report this post" link .....
Then someone else can report it instead.
So this ends up being a request more than a question....

    Hardy Geer wrote:
It is more than a moronic joke. He is trying to get some illegal cash.
Not necessarily. Do not assume anything in the post or the user profile is accurate. The perpetrator may be targeting someone by masquerading as him, or simply trying to get a nice list of Discussions users email addresses for those irate enough to reply to the one listed in the profile.
Like with all spam, the safest thing to do is report it if possible & otherwise ignore it. If this sort of thing becomes more common, the moderators may have to make changes either to staffing hours or to signup procedures or something, but it is their concern & not ours.

  • Someone with enough points to report a post

can someone with enough points please report this post
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16308484#16308484

David, thanks for being so vigilant, but don't worry, there are many people who read the forums and action posts, and the moderators have automated systems for detecting problem posts also. So just enjoy the forum

  • Which level acquires 'report a post' capability.

I'm just curious as I have read posts in the last couple of months where level 2 was mentioned by both a moderator and an Apple employee in this group as the required level.
However, I have also read on another post that it is level 3:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12048636&#12048636
I just reached level 2 and do not see the 'report a post' link. Is there something I need to do, will it come in time, or do I really need to reach level 3?

Unless it has been changed recently, my understanding is that Level 2 is required to see a "Report this post" link. You also need to be logged in. Here's an example of where it's located — click to enlarge:

We are just users like yourself.  If Apple has stated publicly about the problems you mentioned, it will be listed on their website and/or in one of their Knowledge Base Articles.
I have a 27" & do not suffer from such a problem.  You should keep in mind that these are technical support forums. Generally, the only people posting here are those with problems. The thousands/millions without problems don't ever come here.
Think of these forums as a hospital emergency room.
