JVC Everio files to iMovie HD how to keep chronology

Has anyone made sense off or found a reference on the file and folder naming structures on the Everio HD. I have difficulty keepig my chronology straight when I import clips into iMovie HD. Any suggestions would be welcome. Sure you can print a log with the dates and file names on the original HDD and use that for a reference. Since each scene is a file you can have 100 files at the end of the day and it is tedious,,is there an easier way? Using the camera menu I eleted all files, later I connected to MAc and the HDD shows 8 empty folders named PROG-001 to PROG-008. each has one small file in it. When I started recordiga new folder PROG-001A was created. Each MOD file is labeled successively until you use the pause button, then it goes to a OOOA,000B,000C until you power off. When you convert the MOD files to DV they all come out with creation dates and times as time of conversion.

Ooops. My mistake. Sorry about that.
JVC Everio records MPEG-2. (I'll blame a site claiming otherwise, I didn't check JVC's site).
MPEG-2 can be converted to DV with MPEG Streamclip (free) and Apple's MPEG-2 playback plugin ($20).

  • Best Sequence settings for JVC Everio files (TOD format)

I own a JVC Everio camcorder, and I recorded some videos if Full HD (1920 X 1080).  I loaded the TOD files to my computer and converted them to MPEGs using the bundled PowerDirector program.  When I play these HD MPEG files in Windows Media Player, they look fantastic.  Very smooth color and no pixelation.
I loaded these files into a Premier Pro CS4 project because I need to perform some simple editing (trim in/out points, small rotation, and color correction).  I created a sequence using the AVCHD 1080p square pixel preset, which has the following settings:
    AVCHD 1080p square pixel
    29.97 frames/second
    Square pixels
    Progressive scan
    30 fps Drop-Fram time code
    48kHz audio
    I-Frame Only MPEG
Maximum Bit Depth, Maximum Render Quality
When I play the video files using either the Source or Project Monitor, the quality of the files appears degraded compared to what I see through Windows Media Player.  I'm concerned that I'm not using the correct settings to best work with this source video format.
Should I change either the Program or Sequence settings to optimize for this file format, or is Windows Media Player performing some magic in the background?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

  • IMovieHD-importing converted JVC Everio files

How does iMovieHD handle clips with identical names. Suppose I reset my file numbers in the camera befoe going out and shooting for each day, then when I convert the files toDV for iMovie, then successive days recordings will have identical file names, if I am using several days clips in one movie will this confound iMovie HD?
It worked for me for a couple of days was I just lucky?

As long as you drop your clips in the iMovie window, you should be file. iMovie handles duplicate file names just fine.
(The wrong method is moving the clips with Finder, which may cause all kinds of problems.)

  • Adding Bates numbers to PDFs increases file size by 10x - How to keep original size?

I have a lot of email texts that I converted from Word to PDF and then Bates numbered.
However, Bates numbering made each email's file size go from about 50kb to 500kb.
Once I combine these larger files for uploading to a docket, at the maximum allowable file size is 4 Mb, I can put together only 8-10 emails at a time.  What to do to keep the original file size small when Bates numbering?

    Hi paulu40695891,
Yes, there is a significant increase in the file size when one applies bates numbering to the pdf and saves it.
A workaround for this issue would be to save the pdf file again as reduced size pdf. (File -> Save as other -> Reduced Size PDF. )
Does that helps with your issue? Please revert back for any further query or assistance.

  • Firefox opens blank tab every time a .pdf file is opened. How can keep Firefox from doing this?

A blank tab opens in Firefox every time I open a .pdf file. I've noticed several people have this issue but no sufficient response has been posted yet. It is incredibly annoying, especially since I may open multiple pdf files at once and when I return to Firefox there are several blank tabs open.

Are you using the built-in PDF Viewer (pdfjs) or the Adobe Reader, either in Firefox or standalone?

  • Problems importing clips from JVC Everio HD

    Hi there,
Seems that there was a good thread on this topic that was closed some time ago...so I apologize if this has been covered before.
I have just purchased my first Mac, an iMac 2.66 GHz machine after my PC died for the last time. I bought it based on the understanding that it would be a better platform to edit video from our recently acquired JVC HD Everio camcorder...
I'm trying to import into iMovie 08, but everytime I attempt it, only a small fraction of the clips are brought in.
This thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1141385&tstart=105 , seems to suggest that the problem is resolved in current versions of iMovie - are they refering to iMovie 09?
Some additional detail for the kind-hearted trouble-shooters out there:
When the import failure occurs, an error message comes up that reads "there was an error downloading x of y clips..."
After the error occurs, the Everio HDD disappears, and I get the warning message about disconnecting devices properly. Is iMovie shutting down the connection to my camera??
When I simply try to transfer files from the camera to a folder on the iMac, the transfer works perfectly and quickly, so I think I can rule out any connection problems. However, I cannot import the Everio files into iMovie from that folder for some reason.
I shot a combination of AVCHD and MPEG-2TS footage - only the AVCHD clips are importable - I've already researched the compatibility issue for the MPEG-2TS format.
Any advice, solutions, guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Dave

I've just spoken to Apple Support, who have given me a case number to have my machine looked at/repaired...here's the thing though: I've only had my iMac for 10 days, and the store that i purchased it from has a 14-day return policy on computers. So, I think it would likely be easier to just tell them I want a new one and start over, rather than have the computer sit in the shop for a week getting assessed.
The only question is about all the data that I've put on the drive already...lots of pics, video, etc. Would I need to format the drive if I wanted to clean all that off prior to the return? I have a 500GB external drive that I can easily back up to...
Thoughts? Has anyone had similar USB problems? is it a pain to resolve?
    Thanks!

  • Import video files from  iMovie to  iMovie 8?

I just installed iMovie 8. I already have videos from my previous version of iMovie. How do I get them into iMovie 8? There seems to be no connection between my files and iMovie 8.

How do I get them into iMovie 8? There seems to be no connection between my files and iMovie 8.
If you are referring to "raw" files for which no iMovie HD timeline exists, then simply open the iMovie HD ptoject package, transfer the "Media" folder to an active "iMovie Events" folder, change the "Media" folder name to an event name you prefer, and open iMovioe '08 to "thumbnail" the new files. If you don't plan to do any editing of the iMovie HD project, you can then delete the iMovie HD project version.

  • How do i get .mov files into imovie? using jvc everio - help!

just purchased a jvc everio hard disk camcorder. i thought it would be easy to import the videos into imovie (but i have never used it before). needless to say it won't recognize the format. the formats say .mov & .moi (i think one is video and one is audio? maybe not). is there any way to import these files into imovie version 5??? sorry by the way if this has been answered before. the volume of questions on this forum is staggering. thanks in advance!!!

welcome sneakypablo to the  boards of discussions...
no, iM does NOT support harddisk camcorders (yet), it is meant by concept to work with firewire connected miniDV cameras.. which use "dv" as codec...
.mov is just a container, but I guess, inside is some kind of mpeg...
Apple mpeg2 plugin (29$) + Streamclip (free) allows conversion of mpeg2 into something editable...
final hint: upper right, "search" field .. ;))

  • Importing .MOD and .MOI files to iMovie - from JVC EverioS GZ-MS100

I'm desperate in finding a solution on the problems I have with importing .MOI and .MOD files to iMovie from a JVC EverioS GZ-MS100.
I have looked up all advices I can, also on this forum... But nothing seems to work for me at all!
PLEASE someone tell me asap how I can get my videos to iMovie so I can start editing my videos...
Thank you so much in advance!!
    I have iMovie '09 version 8.0.6 (821).

The Zi6 is not on the compatibilty list however I based my knowledge on this review at macworld.com
    http://www.macworld.com/article/135948/2008/10/kodakzi6.html
"To copy your captured content to the Mac, flip out the USB connector, switch on the camera, and jack it into a free USB 2.0 port. If you have the latest version of iPhoto, it launches and offers to import the separate video and image files. If you don’t have the most recent version of iPhoto, you’re welcome to import files into iMovie ‘08 with the File: Import Movie command, or into iMovie HD via the File: Import command. Each command produces an Import navigation window, where you can locate the movies on the attached camera (within the DCIM folder).
The Zi6’s movies are encoded in the H.264 format; as a result, there’s no need to install another codec to use them as you would for movies recorded with the Flip cameras, because H.264 is natively supported by QuickTime (and therefore iMovie and Final Cut Pro). Audio is recorded in the AAC format at 48 Kbps."
So this suggests iMovie 08 will accept the file format the Zi6 porduces. I will attempt file conversion before I loose iMovie 06 though.

  • How can I easily convert mod files (JVC video files) to a format recognized and usable by imovie?

How can I easily convert mod files (JVC video files) to a format recognized and usable by imovie?
Is there a way within the ios to do this or do I need to buy conversion software? If so, what is the recommended software?
    Thanks.

I don't think there are ways in iOS can do this. some conversion software like this might do the right thing for you:

  • Convert .mpeg files from JVC Everio HD Camcorder for iDVD/iMovie use?

    Hello,
I am a brand new Mac user, but an experienced PC user. I have a JVC Everio 30gb HD camcorder that records video as .mod files, which can then be changed to .mpeg format to view. I want to edit these files and make home DVDs with iMovie and iDVD, but they say that the .mpeg format is not recognized. What do I need to do to use these .mpeg video files with these software programs?
    Many thanks in advance!

welcome batman to the  board ...
well... the iApps iMovie and iDVD are meant to work
    with firewire connected miniDV camcorders...
you lose the convenience of the iApps... anyhow:
    Streamclip
(free) is the weapon of choice, in case, your
    HDcorder stores as mpeg1...
for mpeg2 conversion, you need additionally the Apple
    mpeg2 plugin (20$) ...
    helpful?
    Thanks for the quick response!
Well, I think they are in mpeg2 format, but not positive. Anyway, I did away with miniDV camcorders because they transfer much slower to the computer than the HD camcorder...but now I get this issue! lol I guess that's what I get for switching to a Mac!
Is there any other way besides the $20 plugin to convert the file? Will the plugin lose any quality in the conversion process?

  • How can I best work with JVC Everio video files?

For a variety of reasons, MOD files from JVC Everio camcorders can be challenging for many video editors, including Premiere Elements, to work with.
Forum member MarkItVision offers his best solution for making the files easier to edit.
Using CyberLink Power Director Express - a program which comes bundled with the camcorder - capture the video and then place it on the timeline. Then go to File>Produce Movie and at "step 1" select "create a file"
Change the settings as shown to Type II and High Quality 48k. Change settings by clicking on the button two over from the one labeled CLVS and you can confirm the audio is PCM using the button to the right of it.
Follow the arrow "right" and give your file a name and location It will output the AVI as a DV-AVI Type II 48kHz PCM.
Import this file into a Premiere Elements project. The program should work easily with it.
To conform your video file for widescreen, drag it to the timeline, right-click on it and set it to "interpret footage as D1/DV PAL (or NTSC) Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)".

What version of iTunes are you using? iTunes version 10.6.3 should work.
    iTunes 10.6.3 download http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
It's for your Mac or PC, not your iPad.
What version of of iOS is on the iPad?
     Cheers, Tom
