JVC everio GZ-HD7

is the JVC everio GZ-HD7 compatible with fcp?

Technically?....check the following...
Editing
The JVC HD Everio GZ-HD7 comes with an attractive bundle of editing and archiving software for Windows-based PCs from Cyberlink BD Solution software suite, similar to their Cyberlink bundles in the past. This software suite contains PowerDirector for HD video editing, PowerProducer for the authoring of high definition Blu-ray discs and DVD video discs, and PowerCinema, a program that can be used both for playback and the management of image and video files.
One of the major hurdles for video enthusiasts looking to make the jump to full HD content has been a lack of affordable Blu-ray software. The inclusion of Cyberlinks BD Solution suite provides a surprisingly complete end-to-end BD solution. PowerMac users will need to assemble their own solutions as the CyberLink BD Solution suite is compatible only with Intel-based Macs and even that is complicated. You must own a copy of Windows for Mac and run the program through Bootcamp.<

  • FCE 4 and JVC everio hd7 "easy set up"

Ok I currently have a JVC everio hd7 which is a hard drive based cam. I also bought FCE 4 but I am exhausted of importing clips to imovie6 and then FC. I would like to know if anyone has had any luck with these two?

Not sure why you are going through iMovie first. Sounds like you are in the same boat I am with my hard drive based Sony cam. If your JVC saves clips as MPG, you have to use MPEG Streamclip to convert them. There is a batch save option which allows you to save all your clips in the same format, then you can walk away and let it do the work. Go to http://www.squared5.com to download the free software. Use these settings when you export:
    Export to Quicktime
    Compression: Apple DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Quality: 100%
Frame Size: 854 x 480 (16:9) [If your camera is 16:9, which most new cameras are.]
Be sure to deselect "Interlaced Scaling" and "Reinterlace Chroma" so you don't get that jittery effect.
The mov files will end up being twice the size of the mpg, but according to Ian Brown, that's normal.

  • After an upgrade to Mavericks - my Video Camera is no longer recognized by the system (JVC Everio HD video camera)

I just upgraded to Mavericks (up from Mountain Lion) last week. Today, I tried to upload movies to my MacBook Pro, and it no longer 'sees' the camera when plugged into the USB port. I have tired iMovie, iPhoto, and also direct access, via the hard drive. Nothing works. I have even restarted the computer with the camera plugged in and it is still not being recognized, and I cannot get the movies 'out' of the camera. I have never had a problem before , In fact I loaded movies last week, just by pluggin it into the USB.
Are there ANY suggestions on how or what to do for it to start to pick up on the fact that my video camera is indeed plugged in and has movies that can be imported?
    Thanks!

  • DO NOT BUY A JVC EVERIO!!!!

I own a bunch of cameras so I have a educated opinion.
I purchased a JVC Everio GZ-MG130 and the camera is not worth the money they want for it. I purchased it brand new and I tried it once. Had formatting problems, in the middle of recording it told me there was trouble with the hard drive and it need to be re-formatted!!! But after TWENTY times of doing that it became frustrating. Add to that that about 2 hours of critical footage is now lost and gone forever. No, I didn't delete it, it just is not there. Great Camera huh? I knew better than to go with JVC. Shame on me. Hopefully I can return it and get a better one. I'm torn between the Panasonic (good company) or a Sony. I already have 2 MiniDV cams, I want a HD Cam. Can anyone give good advice on them? Hopefully my JVC disaster will save others from wasting time and money.

Well, I bought a JVC Everio after reading so much about Camcorders and the MAC. I need the hard drive for my trip to Africa, tapes and DVD's just aren't practical. My problem is that after I connect my Everio to the MAC, the still images seem to be okay in that they open in iPhoto. However, in order to open the video clips I was testing out, seems like I had to open iMovie 8, but when I do and try to import the clips they are grayed out, yet they don't show up in iPhoto so I can just drag them over. Any ideas what to do. I'm a novice and am just trying to make sure I can do it and then learn more about iDVD and perhaps build something from there. I cannot take the camera back nor do I want to - it is a great camcorder and easy to use and will work for my purpose. I just need to find out what to do to import the clips. Everything is recognizable, the icon shows up on my desktop, the clips are there etc. Anyone with any good ideas, I'd be happy to hear them.

  • LR 4.2 won't import a JVC Everio MOD (MPG) video file

I have hundreds of JVC Everio video files that are natively created as MOD files on the camcorder.  However, I can copy them to my Windows 7 system and simply rename them as *.MPG files and they play fine in Windows Media Player.  I noticed that Adobe Premier Elements can import MOD files, but I get a "There is a problem with the video file..." error message in LR4.2 when I try to import the renamed MPG file.  The Import function won't display MOD files as a valid file format, but the MPG files do appear in the Import browser list.
Below are the specs from the MOD file renamed to MPG.

I'm confused about the licensing issue.
Cyberlink PowerDirector will successfully import and manipulate both *.MOD files and MOD files renamed as *.MPG.
Adobe Premier Elements can (apparently) import MOD files (see http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/supported-file-formats-premiere-elements.html).
    Why can't Lightroom?
Any recommendations on what format to convert the MOD files to so I can import them into Lightroom?

  • JVC Everio GZ-MG630 60GB Camcorder Compatibility with FCP

I was wanting to get a little cheap & compact camcorder for carrying around and do away with tapes at the same time. Has anyone had any luck with FCP & hard drive camcorders with no tapes specifically the JVC Everio’s?
I have always been a miniDV user so this is all new…. however I was able to help a friend get his hard drive camcorder setup after having to get a converter online. I am just a little reluctant to invest in a camcorder when I don’t know if it will work or not.
    Thanks for your help all!

Have you searched this forum for info on these (JVC Everio model) cameras yet? Interesting reading...with some relevent workflows.

  • Newbie seeks advice on importing to iMovie from JVC Everio

    Hi there,
While I'm an old hand at the Mac - I really have little experience of AV applications and cams. I am very interested in buying a JVC Everio GZ-MC 500 or MC 200 Digital Media Camera, but just found out that I cannot import movie outputs into iMovie. Since MicroDrive technology seems like the way of the future I'd like to stick to the JVC. Is there any work around to this problem?
I have iLife 05 with iMovie HD installed and have just downloaded QT7 with Pro upgrade on the way. Does the MPEG 2 component solve this situation?
Any assistance to this would be a great help.
    Thanks and regards,
    Des

My experience with microdrives (..incidentally, Clive Sinclair used the name 'Microdrive' for the tape storage devices he sold for his original 1980s home computers ..about 20 feet of videotape wound into an endless loop in a teeny plastic housing, rather like a miniature 8-track cartridge ..they were also used in the ancient British ICL 'One-Per-Desk' under licence from Sinclair: those two slots along the top are microdrive slots.. Oops ..sorry; where was I..?) ..is that they're unreliable. CF cards are better. But how much video can you store on a CF card, and at what price?
Microdrives need a moment to run up to speed, and constantly starting and stopping them - as I've done with, for instance, a Sony F828 stills camera - I find that the drive gets confused about whether it should be saving or accessing ..and just stops working. Same thing has happened to me with a microdrive in various other devices. So I don't trust them any more. I've used various sizes (340Mb, 1Gb, 2.2Gb) and I always cross my fingers: some have stopped working completely; others have had to be reformatted as DOS, and then formatted as Mac HFS+ ..and I've found them to be more trouble than they promise to be worth. Imagine suddenly losing all your video after you'd just shot about 46 minutes' worth.. Weddings? Argghh! The bride and groom would be so disappointed ..and so would you!
There are various programs which will read MPEG-2 footage (..including the audio: iMovie will play the video 'natively', but often without the sound..) such as Streamclip. That'll convert MPEG footage into proper QuickTime, which iMovie can handle. So you could connect your microdrive(s) to your Mac, copy the footage, squirt it through Streamclip, then edit it.
However, be aware that the quality of the footage may not be as high as material recorded with proper miniDV (or Digital-8) tapes because of the nature of the Everio's recording/compressing/storing routine. The specification - on that page mentioned by 'L', above - shows that the Everios record in the same format as DV "NTSC (720x480) 4:2:0 PAL (720x576) 4:2:0" but - not having tried one - I dunno if the final appearance ..once the video's been 'unscrambled' from MPEG-2 format into something iMovie compatible, then saved back to tape or hard disc.. is as good as DV. It might be even better [..HDV hi-def is saved as MPEG-2..] but I couldn't say.
But DO be careful about microdrives ..ask a few Everio owners before putting down your money and buying one. And how does the price of a microdrive compare with a 60 minute miniDV tape?
Oh, by the way, I almost forgot: welcome to iMovie Discussions!

  • I borrowed a JVC Everio Camcorder that stores the shot video in a CED format.  How in the world do I play back on my MAC and convert files so I can download to iPhotos and iMovies?

I borrowed a JVC Everio HD Camcorder that shoots video and stores on an SD-Card in a CED format.  I cannot playback this video on my MAC and would also like to know how to convert to a more standard form of video.

I have downloaded the trail....and it won't recognize my .264 files....not sure what the deal is?  Here is a screen shot-they files are "grayed" out....and won't highlight.  Do you see anything wrong?  I'm pulling the files off of a Lorex DVR security system.  LHD200

Are you holding down the "d" key, all by itself, just after the system shuts down for a restart?
And how long did you hold it down?
I held mine down for about 40-50 seconds. Then I lookat at my routers WAN light and it was flickering so I let up on the d key.
If that does not work then maybe there is something wrong with your MBP. Is that the reason you want to run this test, something isn't right with your unit?

  • JVC Everio GZ-MC200 compatible?

JVC Everio GZ-MC200 compatible with minimac?
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/camcorders.html
    there is no my camcorder!

Well that is wrong advice mark, it is not a firewire or a converter issue. The GZ series ( I have the GZ 50 as well as DV tape cameras) records directly to MPEG-2 on a hard drive or in the case of the 200, a Microdrive.
Alexsi - connect via USB 2 with power supply connected. Camera will mount as a hard drive to the desktop. Find the movie folder. Copy the files there to the desktop (only the MOD files are required as they are the movie clips) - these are all MPEG-2 e.g. DVD format.
Open the files in MPEG Streamclip. You will see that they open and you can even trim and cut a bit in that program and it is free.
If you want to, MPEG Streamclip will open all of them in a row, in order, then you select repair timecode errors (Apple+F keys) and it will string them into one continuous file. You can at this point export to MPEG and have one long MPEG-2 file or, for iMovie:
Export to DV is the menu item you want - output is a DV file consistent with any other DV file that you can import and edit into iMovie.
Note MPEG-2 is a delivery format and it is not as easy to edit as DV captures 30 fresh frames a second and MPEG-2 doesn't - it makes each frame from changes to the last one. Once in DV format it can be edited. Also as it is a delivery format the quuality won't be as good as DV shot directly.
However I shoot at the Utra mode which is MPEG-2 at 10.5MB second and the quality is amazingly good. The files go right into Toast for burning to DVD very quickly as they are the MPEG-2 standard and Toast needs only to quickly multiplex them and away you go.
Downside - not DV, upside in the GZ50 it will record 7 hours at best quality and 37(!) hours at a economy mode of 1.5 kbps. And it is the size of 2 packs of cigarettes and has an F 1.2 lens. For something not being edited a lot it is pretty good.
Final advantage over tape - an hour of MPEG-2 copies as a USB mounted hard drive in about 5 minutes not an hour as per capturing from tape.
What these cameras are doing is making the terrible DVD cameras with their short 30 minute limit and expensive tiny DVD media, obsolete.

  • JVC Everio to MAC problems

    Hello
I've been a MAC user for a few years now but would never consider myself as a technically minded person......hence the probably stupid question.
I recently bought a JVC Everio GZ-MG630 hard drive video camera to use for my wedding and honeymoon. Obviously the bloke in the shop thought it would plug straight into a mac and work no fuss......wrong.
I have managed to work out how to connect it and get the files into a viewable format using Mpeg Streamclip but.......is it the best way to get the files into a viewable format? It seems a very tedious slow way of doing things with me having to individually drag each clip, convert it etc etc. When it is all done the quality is also disappointingly poor quality with grainy lines, bad sound and sometimes an almost unviewable screen.
Any advice would be great. I have looked this up on the other forums but get lost in the technical side of it, i literally want to plug it in and watch / burn the footage. A little upsetting having got a £500 camera, £1200 imac and £750 macbook......
    Cheers

If you want to keep backups of your everio .MOD movie files, other than just the ones stuck inside iMovie. Here is is what you do. Copy the ones you want right now into iMovie, then copy the ones you want to import into iMovie later, or maybe you just want to backup them up, from the camera to hard drive (internal or external). When you are ready to import these into iMovie later you just get an external drive or a thumb drive and do the following:
    1) Create a root folder called Mp_Root on an external drive, USB stick, SD card... (probably works with a disk image as well, though I haven't tried it)
    2) Inside this folder create another folder called 101PNV01
    3) Copy your .mod files inside the 101PNV01 folder and change the extensions to .mpg
    4) Restart iMovie. It will now detect the external drive as a camera and allow to import all the clips using the date created/modified info as timestamps for perfect cataloging.
iMovie does NOT re-encode the movie files, you retain full quality. It simply puts them in a .mov container and creates the thumbnails.
The reason for this is because you can only import .MOD movies into iMovie from the JVC camera. So If you store these of the camera this is currently the only way to get them imported into iMovie.
I learned this from "Valenciano", a user on this Apple board.

  • JVC Everio .mod files on FCP

I want to purchase a JVC Everio camcorder that records to hard disk. The problem is I've heard people have to convert the .mod files it creates to be able to edit with them.
Their website says they record "High-Quality MPEG-2 Video Recording (up to 720 x 480/60i in ULTRA mode with Dolby Digital Audio (MOD file)"
Seeing as how I can read/write dolby sound and mpeg2 I thought I could just drop them straight into FCP, or maybe rename the extension then drop them in.
Can someone let me know they've been able to do this? Or could someone supply me a small clip with sound I can try for myself before I buy this camera?
    Cheers

MPEG 2 files are not generally directly editable in FCP, so you'll have to convert them to a native format. I seem to recall that MPEG Streamclip or DVDxDV will convert the files to DV, but I may be mistaken. Perhaps someone with experience with this camera will pipe up...

  • Hey, I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera, whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there, please help !

    Hey,
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera.
Whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there,
    please help !

FCE 4.0.1 can only capture DV/HDV which is produced by cameras using Mini-DV TAPES and cameras shooting AVCHD which is a high definition format.
If your camera shoots standard definition on Memory Cards, DVDs or Hard Drives it will not work in FCE.
What is your camera's exact model name and number?

  • What do I need to enable me to put JVC Everio video onto the MacbookPro Snow Leopard bought November2009

    Hello to all,
I am still learning how to use this Macbook Pro and cannot understand why there is no app for
putting JVC Everio video onto my laptop in order to edit and make a disc of my films while on
holiday so that I can send the edited pieces to our daughter in New Zealand where we took them.
I have been into the Apple Store in San Fransisco this month and they could not help as the
laptop was then at home in the UK.
    Are there any apps?
Do I need to buy a reader I have been told by a salesman?

Should I consider any updrade to the Macbook Pro?
Do I need to consider going back to school at age 64 tomix with 5 year olds who seem to understand

Is there a site or disc which can take me through any possible remedy to my problems?
Any help will be appreciated especially from people who know what they are talking about.
    Thank you

MacBook Pro and Mac Pro are not the same machine.   The MacBook Pro is a notebook, and the Mac Pro is a desktop.   Regardless, the question you have pertains more to Quicktime or iMovie, as both those are video importing applications.     Do you wish me to ask a moderator to redirect your question to either forum?
    There are forums for each.
One application I found is great for importing non-Apple compatible video formats is http://www.etinysoft.com/total-video-converter-hd.html though you may need to get a Flash Card reader that supports your camera's flash card on a Mac to import the video.

I am trying to import my footage from my JVC Everio GZ-HD3U to iMovie HD. Apparently I had to change the quality to 1440 CBR. Right now I'm totally fed up and is desperate for help. Please help me out with some detailed instructions. Or if Im screwed, just tell me. Thanks.

as Forest allready mentioned: HDDcorders are not supported by iMHD vers5 (this board is about vers5).
    but...
'mount' your device, a HDDcorder should be noticed by Finder as an ext. device..
drag the corresponding files onto your local HDD...
use converter tools as MpegStreamclip (www.squared5.com) + the 20$ *mp2 component* (apple.com) or VisualHub to convert the files into 'Apple Intermediate Codec' ... import that files into iMHD ...
