JVC Everio HD Camcorder

I have a new JVC Everio HD Camcorder (records on hard disk) and iMovie6....iMovie 6 does not recognize my JVC camcorder and I can't import movies from it to iMovie or make a magic iMovie. The Mac software that came with my JVC is installed...so the JVC should be compatible with my Mac, shouldn't it? I tried everything that Help told me to but still no luck. Has anyone else encountered this issue-any advice on what to do?
Thanks-
Ellen

Hi There!
I too have been wondering what is the best way to convert the Everio's raw format of .MOD without loss of quality?
I see the Capty MPEG Edit application has lots of options?
MPEG (System stream & elementarty stream)
DV Stream
Quicktime Movie
Has anyone played around with these and found what the best quality is? I guess I will want to edit them and understand that the conversion has to be DV to use iMovie, does this effect quality?
Also, are there any quick ways to play the raw formats on the mac without waiting so long for the conversion?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
Matt

  • IMovie 2008 and JVC Everio HD Camcorder

I recently purchased a brand new iMac and a JVC Everio HD Camcorder. The first time I tried to import the videos taken from my JVC, iMovie recognized it. Now it seems that it does not. Everytime I connect the camcorder to the iMac only iPhoto opens. When I go to "File" "Import from camera" the internal iMac camera opens but nothing with the Everio Camcorder.
    What is wrong?

The same happens to us. The JVC HD camcorder had worked fine importing when I dragged the .TOD movie files in to iMovie 06. Now,I try to drag the same file type to iMovie 08 -- and it doesn't even recognize the file.
But iMovie 06 recognizes 1440 CBR files when importing via firewire. Maybe if you film in CBR format, iMovie 08 will recognize he file? Here's a link to the JVC's site for a tutorial on the CBR format: http://media2.jvc.com/camcorder/macHD.mov
Hmmm, but what about my .TOD files in iMovie 08?????? That's the problem! Thanks for any and all help!

  • Convert .mpeg files from JVC Everio HD Camcorder for iDVD/iMovie use?

    Hello,
I am a brand new Mac user, but an experienced PC user. I have a JVC Everio 30gb HD camcorder that records video as .mod files, which can then be changed to .mpeg format to view. I want to edit these files and make home DVDs with iMovie and iDVD, but they say that the .mpeg format is not recognized. What do I need to do to use these .mpeg video files with these software programs?
    Many thanks in advance!

Well, I think they are in mpeg2 format, but not positive. Anyway, I did away with miniDV camcorders because they transfer much slower to the computer than the HD camcorder...but now I get this issue! lol I guess that's what I get for switching to a Mac!
Is there any other way besides the $20 plugin to convert the file? Will the plugin lose any quality in the conversion process?

I borrowed a JVC Everio HD Camcorder that shoots video and stores on an SD-Card in a CED format.  I cannot playback this video on my MAC and would also like to know how to convert to a more standard form of video.

  • JVC Everio GZ-MG630 60GB Camcorder Compatibility with FCP

I was wanting to get a little cheap & compact camcorder for carrying around and do away with tapes at the same time. Has anyone had any luck with FCP & hard drive camcorders with no tapes specifically the JVC Everio’s?
I have always been a miniDV user so this is all new…. however I was able to help a friend get his hard drive camcorder setup after having to get a converter online. I am just a little reluctant to invest in a camcorder when I don’t know if it will work or not.
    Thanks for your help all!

Have you searched this forum for info on these (JVC Everio model) cameras yet? Interesting reading...with some relevent workflows.

Thanks, while it worked on yours it doesn't work on mine, any other ideas?
Are you holding down the "d" key, all by itself, just after the system shuts down for a restart?
And how long did you hold it down?
I held mine down for about 40-50 seconds. Then I lookat at my routers WAN light and it was flickering so I let up on the d key.
If that does not work then maybe there is something wrong with your MBP. Is that the reason you want to run this test, something isn't right with your unit?

  • Is a JVC GX-7 Everio Digital Camcorder compatible with a MacBook Pro

I am not able to get my MacBook Pro to recognize my JVC GX-7 Digital Camcorder. It is connected with a firewire and I have Final Cut Pro as the software. Any suggestions?

There's no JVC Everio GX-7. Do you have a JVC Everio GZ-HD7, or a Panasonic NV-GX7?
If it's an HD model, the camera should mount like an external hard drive and you drag the videos off the camera using the Finder (I think they have a setting to switch between that and HDV playback). If it's a DV model, are you sure you have the camera in VTR mode when you attempt to transfer the video?

  • DO NOT BUY A JVC EVERIO!!!!

I own a bunch of cameras so I have a educated opinion.
I purchased a JVC Everio GZ-MG130 and the camera is not worth the money they want for it. I purchased it brand new and I tried it once. Had formatting problems, in the middle of recording it told me there was trouble with the hard drive and it need to be re-formatted!!! But after TWENTY times of doing that it became frustrating. Add to that that about 2 hours of critical footage is now lost and gone forever. No, I didn't delete it, it just is not there. Great Camera huh? I knew better than to go with JVC. Shame on me. Hopefully I can return it and get a better one. I'm torn between the Panasonic (good company) or a Sony. I already have 2 MiniDV cams, I want a HD Cam. Can anyone give good advice on them? Hopefully my JVC disaster will save others from wasting time and money.

Well, I bought a JVC Everio after reading so much about Camcorders and the MAC. I need the hard drive for my trip to Africa, tapes and DVD's just aren't practical. My problem is that after I connect my Everio to the MAC, the still images seem to be okay in that they open in iPhoto. However, in order to open the video clips I was testing out, seems like I had to open iMovie 8, but when I do and try to import the clips they are grayed out, yet they don't show up in iPhoto so I can just drag them over. Any ideas what to do. I'm a novice and am just trying to make sure I can do it and then learn more about iDVD and perhaps build something from there. I cannot take the camera back nor do I want to - it is a great camcorder and easy to use and will work for my purpose. I just need to find out what to do to import the clips. Everything is recognizable, the icon shows up on my desktop, the clips are there etc. Anyone with any good ideas, I'd be happy to hear them.

  • LR 4.2 won't import a JVC Everio MOD (MPG) video file

I have hundreds of JVC Everio video files that are natively created as MOD files on the camcorder.  However, I can copy them to my Windows 7 system and simply rename them as *.MPG files and they play fine in Windows Media Player.  I noticed that Adobe Premier Elements can import MOD files, but I get a "There is a problem with the video file..." error message in LR4.2 when I try to import the renamed MPG file.  The Import function won't display MOD files as a valid file format, but the MPG files do appear in the Import browser list.

I'm confused about the licensing issue.
Cyberlink PowerDirector will successfully import and manipulate both *.MOD files and MOD files renamed as *.MPG.
Adobe Premier Elements can (apparently) import MOD files (see http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/supported-file-formats-premiere-elements.html).
    Why can't Lightroom?
Any recommendations on what format to convert the MOD files to so I can import them into Lightroom?
