JVC  GR-AXM710 to Imovie

hi, I need help = how can I transfer my digital movie tapes from my JVC camera to my computer?

I was having plenty of trouble converting movies into iMovie readable formats as well, and I think I ended up downloading Handbrake (free) but it had lots of quality loss issues (be sure to read the 'about this program' stuff if you download it) I also downloaded streamclip and the extra piece here was to buy a Quicktime attachment for $20 to $30 (I paid $34 CAN) from the apple website. Can you say over-a-barrel? Anyway - after lots of wandering around the computer I got the video files converted. I cannot tell you exactly how that happened, but these programs were the start to getting it done. After that I just pointed, clicked, and swore a lot. Best of luck.

  • Importing video from a JVC HD7U camcorder into iMovie 11

I am having trouble importing video from a JVC HD7U camcorder into iMovie 11.  The import screen shows up and recognizes the camera with the time counter activating but there is no image on the screen and the record or import buttons do not seem to do anything.  I have followed the instructions from the manual and others found online.  Someone please help.  Terry

    Hi Brady,
I have a new Everio HD that I have been fooling with all day. Finally got a clip into iMovie 6 ....but only once and I'm still figuring this out too.....if you are not using a HD camera this may or may not work for you.
The Everio Quicktime extension must be installed. (Download and install the patch if you upgrade to Leopard).
Is your camera an HD? If so you need to capture the clip in 1440 CDR not FHD (FullHighDef).
Launch iMovie 6. Create a new movie in Video format HDV 1080i . then plug in your camera via firewire.
Put the camera in playback mode (Play/REC), press the Function, select Dubbing Playback (bottom of the menu). You should get a menu with a start button now. Switch to iMovie 6 and select "Import". This should start the clip playing from the camera....you may have to hit the Start on the camera.
This should get your clips into i Movie.
We may be ably to create playlists and get them in that way too but I have not had any luck with the JVC instructions to do this. There are video tutorials on the JVC website too but again they have not worked for me.
There is also a way to get and work the FHD files but that is a USB file transfer followed by a file conversion. I'll tackle that a little later...
    Good luck,
    Roger

  • Important for users of JVC HDD Camcorder and iMovie HD

I've been having problems using iMovie HD to open my JVC HDD camcorder's videos. Some of you have been very kind in pointing me in a few directions. I thought I'd try and return the favor:
I downloaded MPEG Streamclip and the MPEG-2 Playback Component (both of which can be found easily using google), and used Streamclip to export my video files as .dv files - now I'm using iMovie to attend to my videos with no problems (knock on wood). Thanks everyone for your help! Any questions, just ask!

'cause, for sure the JVC HDDcorders record in mpeg2..
in the beginning, mp2 was meant for disk delievry only, but the HDDcorder manufacturers found it as their codec, to compress the hugh sized streams on that 'tiny' harddrives, 'cause there're chips avail, which do the en- and decoding in realtime..

  • JVC Everio files to iMovie HD how to keep chronology

Has anyone made sense off or found a reference on the file and folder naming structures on the Everio HD. I have difficulty keepig my chronology straight when I import clips into iMovie HD. Any suggestions would be welcome. Sure you can print a log with the dates and file names on the original HDD and use that for a reference. Since each scene is a file you can have 100 files at the end of the day and it is tedious,,is there an easier way? Using the camera menu I eleted all files, later I connected to MAc and the HDD shows 8 empty folders named PROG-001 to PROG-008. each has one small file in it. When I started recordiga new folder PROG-001A was created. Each MOD file is labeled successively until you use the pause button, then it goes to a OOOA,000B,000C until you power off. When you convert the MOD files to DV they all come out with creation dates and times as time of conversion.

Ooops. My mistake. Sorry about that.
JVC Everio records MPEG-2. (I'll blame a site claiming otherwise, I didn't check JVC's site).
MPEG-2 can be converted to DV with MPEG Streamclip (free) and Apple's MPEG-2 playback plugin ($20).

  • Jvc camcoder working on iMovie

I'm going to purchase a video camera and have done some research. I thought I would get a JVC MG255 and before I buy it was checking the discussion group to see if there were any problems. I've read some columns about no audio / max number of clip transfers and such. One comment was to only use firewire and not USB... I would like some feedback before I get it... or maybe I should go for another brand if iMovie has problems with JVC products...
    Thanks

I got my MG255 about a month ago. There is a problem with importing clips, yes they loose sound if you have too many, not sure what the limit is, Apple says 60 others say 99, all I know is 30 or 40 come over just perfect, I had 198 after vacation and they all came in without sound, my fallback was to use thedock tht came with the camera to transfet in real time via firewire, (like 4 hours to bring in the 198 clips from a 3 week vacation). On the firewire you have to sort clips by date and take one date a t a time and play wile importing to imovie 08. They still come n as individual clips and have the date made attached to the set of daily clips which become a separate event in iMovie08.
More importantly: Camera + very good low light performance, - poor bright sunlight performance. Colors in sunlight are exagerated in reds and highlights burn out. - Camera has poor auto focusing, there were times on the beach where subjects at intermedate distance would only focus properly at 1x to 5x zoom, past that sometimes it won't focus when you zoom closer than the intermediate range of optical. (The manual focus is clumsy to use and the LCD resolution is so poor it is difficult to focus especially outside under a bright sky!) I don't know the cause of the problem with autofocus, , ...maybe low contrast between subject and beach sand, or background. This happened a number of times in different environments and subjects. I think there is some prolem in the camera. . I inquired at JVC got no answers yet.
Generally, it seems that the cheapest mini tape cameras give better quality video than the Everios. I am disappointed and would consider sellng you mine at heavy discount if interested. Whats the point of the big hard drive ifyou cant transfeer all the clips into your $2500 iMac and iMovie 08 anyway? Of course I think it would work ok on the Windows environment with Piniacle Studio 11...at least they claim it will!

  • How can I import JVC files (.mod) into iMovie?

I have an JVC Everio GZ-MC500E Camcorder which generates .mod files. These files can not be read or imported by iMovie. Does anyone know a work around? Is there any other apple program (shareware) that is able to import and convert these files?

DVD/iMovie work with firewire connected miniDV/D8 only.
Your mod files need a conversion but it may lose some quality.
    You'll need:
MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 (free) and the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • Widescreen imovie events in frontrow are squeezed into 4:3 aspect

I shoot all my personal video using a JVC everio widescreen camcorder. iMovie works perfectly with the camera and imports all my clips just fine. When I try to view them through frontrow the clips are squeezed into letterbox format. i.e black bars on the side and 4:3 video format. I thought that this perhaps was quicktime's fault but viewing the clips in quicktime works perfectly.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some setting that I'm missing?

I'm having the same problem with HDTV contect (widescreen), transcoded to run on my Mac. iTunes plays the video correctly, but Front Row "squishes" it, and adds pillarboxing to the sides. Kooky, huh? I'm thinking it's a bug in Front Row. Anyone notice that Leopard really has a lot of bugs??

  • Import from JVC

The docs say I can use a JVC Everio with 09
    I have a GZ-HD7
iMovie 09 recognises the camera but fails to import
    How do I do it?
    Henry

Unfortunately, as great a mid-level camcorder as the JVC GZ-HD7 is, iMovie doesn't support importing from the camera's native .TOD files. In order to import footage that I shot I use Final Cut Pro to log and capture the footage using the RCA 3 to 1 that came included with your camcorder plugged into an external bridge. I believe that the same process should work within iMovie but this requires purchasing an external bridge and it obviously takes away one of the best features of the camera, it's crystal clear HD. There is probably a way to get a HD bridge but I don't believe that iMovie would support this import.
If anyone else has a better way to do it, please let us know, thanks in advance.

Do you have any idea about that problem ?
One month ago, that has worked.
    I use a firewire connection.
    Thanks of your help.

I have the same problem and obviously the repairing permission's seems to work... unfortunately as happy as I am knowing that someone has found a solution to a problem that I am also faced with... I am faced with the problem that I am a fourteen year old Mac illiterate... could you possibly explain in order how to 'repair permissions'?

  • [missing] DV Firewire

I am just now trying to hookup a firewire deck to load and edit on my Powerbook. I am using the JVC dv3000 deck. I can not see or hear anything in Final Cut 4.5 but I can control the deck. If I go to iMovie, I can see and hear the video as well as control the deck. I'm guessing this would be solved by changing the settings, but can't find anything that seems to work.
Another note - in the log & capture window, the preview is "disabled" & when I go to the capture settings (set to DV) it says that the DV codec? is [missing].
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    OK - here's a list of stuff
    QuickTime 7.11
    Mac OS X 10.4.6
Powerbook 1.5 GHz Power PC 4, 512 mb sdram
    Final Cut Pro HD 4.5
Edit Deck - JVC br-dv3000, going into built in firewire port (left side)
Gtech graid drive with Gtech firewire card (card slot, right side)
I can see and hear the video from the JVC deck when in iMovie... but no audio or video in Final Cut. I have tried using the Firewire NTSC setting in Final Cut (template) and then a duplicate of that setting using the Firewire NTSC basic setting. I have the capture/input set to DV NTSC 48 kHz. The capture window has bars and "preview disabled' text across the bars.
In the video/audio settings, capture preset is DV NTSC 48 kHz. Device Control Preset is set to Firewire NTSC copy (using the firewire basic setting.) Video playback is set to none and the audio playback is set to built-in audio.
Under the Capture window (set to DV NTSC 48 kHz) has this warning :

  • Poor Quality After Importing Video

Has anyone noticed that the quality is poor after importing a DV file to iMovie?  If so, is there any way to fix this or avoid the problem altogether

I think it may depend on the video camera.  Some video cameras have this happen when used with iMovie. When I import video from my JVC Everio directly into iMovie '11, the video comes in very out of focus.  I have to use the steps outlined on this page to get the video into iMovie '11 properly.

  • Crash/Sudden close on firewire import

    Hi,
When importing over firewire from my JVC GR-DVX4 camera, imovie HD suddenly closes on my intel macbook and crashes (unexpected closure) at the same point on my g4 mini and g4 imac.
Windows movie maker can import with no problems. It always happes at the same point (35 minutes into a 60 minutes tape) and on the g4's the tape continues to play, the macbook stops the camera.
I hope I can restore the mac's reputation as a video powerhouse.......

    Thanks for the reply.
Apparently you have not found the BadDrivers.txt file in your Premiere Elements 13 in spite of the fact that you have enable Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and
    Drives enabled.
    Does this help?
I have several versions of Premiere Elements on my Windows 8.1 64 bit computer, including version 13.
Both version 12 and 13 share the same BadDrivers.txt file according to Adobe.
In this screenshot, you do not look inside the folders (like 7.0 and the others) inside the Premiere Elements Folder).
Instead you delete the BadDrivers.txt file in that Premiere Elements Folder.
Problems with the same symptoms can (often do) have different causes. And, therein resides the troubleshooting construction.
It will be interesting to learn if Premiere Elements 13 on Mac will provide a good workflow for you.
Just a reminder, if needed, you cannot open Premiere Elements 13 Windows project files on Premiere Elements 13 Mac. By
the way, what is the operating system for the Mac.
We will continue to offer help until your problem is resolved. When and if the time comes, you have purchased the program direct
from Adobe, and are within 30 days of purchase, I can post the Adobe Chat Orders link to request return/refund.

  • Imovie11 clips show as gray squares

Two events loaded in  One from a Canon Dslr,  edits fine  One from a JVC 700  JVC  footage would not load  so I converted it using Aiseesoft    JVC footage would load into Events  but when I highlight it to move to edit it turns to gray squares.  I have edited in the past with the JVC un converted in Imovie 9.

Hooray again! Old Toad's 2nd option for getting rid of the exclamation marks did work for me.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
Now all is well and I am very happy. Thanks!
    Gratefully,

  • JVC imovie 08 (what to do!)

Hi, I've looked over many forums on the internet, there is still this question that I have that's not answered...
I have a JVC 1080p HDD camera. I have already figured out how to use it in imovie 08 and let me tell you it is the most annoying process.
Now that I have it in imovie 08, edited. I want to export. I tried exporting at 960x540 (knowing that its going to have this lossy quality to it) then I exported it through quicktime, as DV but in 1920x1080... still bad as anything.
I either don't know how to export videos, or i'm just expecting too much of HD Videos.
I've read over forums that say that it's better to use imovie HD (06) for HD DVD. but why?? why can't I get the same thing in imovie 08? isn't it supposed to be an upgrade?
    1) should I use imovie 06 to get better quality (and let me tell you its so much easier to work with JVC and imovie06 because of TOD files).
    2) if I can still get a good quality video with imovie 08. Is it going to take 700minutes to export?? (that's what I got when I wanted to export as H.264 and 1920x1080) that's like I don't know... 11 hours? and i'm guessing its gona take another 700 minutes to burn in iDVD.
By the way I'm using macbook pro intel core 2 duo 2.4GH 2GB ram.
Do I really have to wait THAT long just to get a better quality video to watch on my HDTV. I mean I don't even know if its worth it. I waited a 2.5 hour period to export a 1280x720... and I have to say that is very crappy from what it looks like on my screen, let alone the TV.
    3) what's the best way to export and watch a normal family video in a 1080 HD format without losing any or.. Much of the quality (if I have to).
I'd rather just connect my camera with HDMI and watch it straight off the camera to avoid going through all this.
    Thanks
    Paul.

you need an ext. harddrive.. but a G4 is fully functional
.. aside AVCHD ... this is only supported on IntelMacs or you need the 3rd party app Voltaic and a lot of time..
Oh, I agree. Been there, done that.
But the thread title is iMovie 08 with an iBook G4. Plus he's adding in a new camera.
Skimming and real time editing are a stretch with an iBook G4. Now, Movie 6 HD is not a bad fit, but sloooow.
