Can I use GZ-HD7/GZ-HD3 with Mac
Yes, for playback of TOD file QuickTime can be used if the QuickTime component is installed from CD ROM supplied with the camera. Editing of HD video is possible with iMovie HD or Final Cut Pro. Both of these work with TOD file extension. Also the contents can be down converted from High Definition to DV standard thru firewire (1394) to be edited with older versions of editing software.
What signal can be output from iLINK (firewire) on GZ-HD7 / GZ-HD3 ?
Depending on the camera menu settings: i.LINK OUTPUT (DUB) either any recording (FHD, SP or 1440CBR on GZ-HD7 and XP, SP or 1440CBR on GZ-HD3) can be down converted to standard resolution (DV setting) or only HD 1440CBR can be output thru this connection.
There is no HD signal output from i.LINK during the recording/ playback on GZ-HD7 / GZ-HD3.
Normally, there is no i. LINK output during the shooting/ playback. Signal is output from the I. LINK output terminal only by creating a play list and then using the dubbing mode. During the play list playback (when i. LINK output is active), video is not displayed on the camera screen. Also keep in mind that only HD scenes recorded in 1440 CBR can be output thru iLINK. For more details see Instruction Book pages: GZ-HD7 from 50 to 51, GZ-HD3 pages 49 to 50. Instruction manual can be downloaded from the USER MANUALS link on top left of this page.
Some scenes are missing after i.LINK dubbing is completed.
If dubbing to DV compatible device (down converting from HD quality signal for standard definition DVD Video burning) both 1440 and other (FHD, XP or SP) resolution scenes can be copied, but when copying to computer, for HD content editing for example, only scenes recorded with 1440 CBR setting will be copied even if play list has some FHD, XP or SP recorded scenes. See Instruction Manual pg.68 (GZ-HD7) or pg.67 (GZ-HD3) for recording quality setting. Note: Mode cannot be changed after recording is done.

"QuickTime component" is plug-in software for Mac user who has high-definition hard disc camcorder "Everio(GZ-HD7)". The HD file of which it takes a picture with Everio in iMovie HD 6 and Final Cut Pro can be used.
QuickTime component for Everio can not be used with iMovie '08. Please use with iMovie HD 6. iMovie HD 6 is available for download for those who have purchased and installed iLife '08 or are using Macintosh with pre-installed iLife '08.
If you use QuickTime Component for Everio with QuickTime 7.4 or Mac OS X 10.5.2, please apply "Program Update" in this page.

  • Help! How can I import camcorder video to imovie on my computer?

I have a G4 tower, running Leopard 10.5.8. I have a Sony Camcorder Handycam HDD Hybrid DCR-SR45. When I plug in the camcorder to computer the imovie does not launch to import. The computer does recognize that I plugged in my camcorder (icon shows up on my desktop), and when I open that file, and click on a file in the folder of video footage taken today, a window pops up that reads "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file". How can I import today's video footage into imovie? Help! Homework project due Tuesday.

I tried, but when I hit import there is no option that says "import from camera". The driver that shows up on my desktop when I plug in the camcorder reads "no name". When I try to drag the video files into an open window of imovie an error message pops up reading "Error during import", "The file could not be imported;the file ""/volumes/Noname/MP_root/101PNVo1/MZU00001.MPG" Can't be imported. Quicktime could not parse it:-2048
What else can I try? Thx.

  • Can't import IPhoto video into IMovie

I imported a video clip into IPhoto '08 from a Casio camera -- came out in .MOV format. CAN'T import it into IMovie '08 and can't "save-as" into any other format (figuring that might help??). Help?

I exported my lessons video clips as MPEG4, Default Settings and I am able to see the mp4 files in iMovie, even though they look like crap compared to the originals are now 4:3 instead of 16:9.
Then don't use the default settings. Set dimension and frame rate to "current" setting used in original file. Set video data rate to same data rate as original source file. Set audio for 64 Kbps/channel at 44.1 KHz sampling rate or 80 Kbps/channel at 48.0 KHz sampling rate. If you're really having problems, simply export to iPod or TV presets.
Shouldn't DV files work in iMovie? The source files are .mov with DV/DVCPRO - NTSC codec. Isn't that one of iMovie's supported codecs?
As I previously stated, I would normally expect a DV file to be compatible. A DV stream file contains DV video with DV audio and should be iMovie '08 compatible. Since you keep saying the DV (video) is in an MOV file container, I keep telling you that an MOV file container may contain any "valid" audio compression format and not just ones that are iMovie '08 import/edit compatible. So once again, I am reminding you to check your MOV file audio compression format to be sure it is iMovie '08 compatible. If it is, then check to see if it contains an incompatible data track. For instance, iPhoto slideshows are not iMovie '08 import compatible because they contain a "Tween" track. If your "tutorial" files also contain a "Tween" track, they will not import either.
I just tried the Save Movie as Quicktime Movie again. It saved out using H.264, but iMovie won't recognize it.
One more time... H.264 is a video compression format. What audio compression format did you use?
It seems like MP4 is the ONLY codec I can get iMovie to recognize when importing movie files. That can't be right, can it?
It probably isn't. We are rapidly reaching a point where it would be much easier to tell what is going on if you you would simply trim a snippet from one of your problem files and either e-mail it to me or post it to a server for downloading and examination.

  • How can I import Jing videos to iMovie?

I am trying to import a video I made using Jing, and it saves the file as swf. I tried to convert it, but for some reason it's not working. Any ideas? Thanks!

Okay, this can still be done.
A DVD is a highly compressed video format. However, tools do exist to uncompress it and get it into an editable file. I've had to do this myself on a couple of occasions when the only thing people had was a DVD.
The software below is what I use.  It will create a video file that should load into QuickTime 7 or QuickTime Pro, allowing you to eliminate the audio as described by Old Toad above.
I use it with iMovie 06 (and a few times with iMovie 11) and iDVD 11. It has several modes of converting the data. One mode is called "lossless".

By the way, I am pretty good with movie editing using iMovie HD 06 and sometimes the newer versions of iMovie.  Old Toad is a much better expert than I regarding video.   He has helped me countless times.   However, others here can help you as well. Unfortunately, the iDVD section is not visited as often as it used to be. Once you have a working video file you might try posting in the iMovie or QuickTime areas as these are visited more often by experts.

  • Can't import iPhoto videos into iMovie'11

    Hi
I just discovered that i can no longer see any iPhoto videos in iMovie.  I upprgaded to iLife'11 and to Lion. Not sure when the problem occured for the first time, i.e. at what upgrade.
iMovie does ask if i want to import iPhoto thumbnails, i select NOW but then when i got ot the event folder and select iPhoto Videos iMovie locks up with the beacjh ball, i go to Force Quit and it tells me iMovie not responding so I have to force quit. All highly annoying as I have video in iPhoto i want to edit and put together etc.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Alright, sounds like a re-install of iMovie is in order, try ths:
Go to Mac HD > Library > Receipts > (look for iMovie.pkg) and move that to the desktop.
Got to Mac HD > Applications > iMovie.app (move that also to the Desktop
We're going to trick the Mac into thinking you haven't installed iMovie yet.
    Reboot the Mac.
Now go to the AppStore icon and launch that while holding down the Option key, when it comes up go to Purchases. With any luck it will let you re-download the iMovie installer and run the installer one more time.
After you run the install, reboot the Mac and hold down the Option key again. Choose the Recovery drive. And run disk utility>Repair Disk Permissions from within the Recover drive (instead of running it from the Utilities folder). When it finishes Repairing Permissions, reboot one more time.
Try launching iMovie and see if it can find the iPhoto Videos.
Plists are where all the preferences get written so for iMovie to locate where iPhoto Library is kept it needs to read that from somewheres. Therefore it gets written in the preferences, along with the locations of the videos inside iPhoto, the names of those videos, etc. That way iMovie can just look it up without you having to launch iPhoto to find the videos.

  • Help! can't import any video into Imovie 08!

I hope some nice Mac user will help me, please. I am trying to import anything into IMovie and no version is working. I started with vob files-- (precious home movies that were put on DVD), converted them to .mov and then even bought a Mac converter for $40 and now have avi and Mp4 versions. When I try to import, IMovie sees the files, but they are gray and can't be clicked on! Its so frustrating, I have been trying many different things on two different Mac's for three days now! I may have to, in desperation, do this project on a PC at work after hours. hope its something simple, thanks nice Mac users (I am a newbie)

  • Can't import MJPEG Videos in iMovie iOS

I'm able to import 720P Movies from my still cam (Olympus XZ-1) in the Photo App of iPad 2, but not to iMovie. Seems that iMovie iOS is limited to MPEG4/AVC (h.264).
I'm upset, because there is no reasonable case not to support MJPEG in iMovie, when it is supported in iOS in principle.

As it says on the "box":
iMovie helps you turn the HD video you shoot on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into a masterpiece
It's only made to edit video shot on your ipad, or similar Apple device.
This is a USER forum, no one from Apple is here.

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • Can you import movie videos from SD camera card

Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.

To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
    for example
    DCIM
    MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there.

  • Can I import a video from Final Cut Pro

I'm doing a :45 sec. video clip in Final Cut and Kinemac for a local church. They want pre-recorded backround music that fades out at the end. Can I import this video into GB for the music..
    Thanks.
    NN

What do you mean by "this video"? The FCP file? No, but any rendered version: Show the video track in GB and pull the video over.
The question is: Why would you want to do this? If it's just about fading out the music, as you write, FCP will happily do that for you.

  • Can't import some video's

Ik can't import all video's in my itunes library. I can import some of them. Can somsone tell me what kind of format, numer of bits, and so on what the video should have to import it?
    Greetz

Well iTUnes does not support .AVI files. When you try to add a corrupt file or a file format not supported by itunes to its library, Instead of giving you a message why its not being added, it simply does nothing, does not add the file nor give you any message
