JVC GZ-HD3 quick time component disk
Hi
Wonder if anyone can help me. I have lost the disk that came with the camcorder.......long story.
I've tried everywhere to get a new disk to no avail. Is it possible to get hold of any software to convert the .tod files for compatibility with imovie or finalcut express4.
Alternatively does anyone know where I can get my hands on another disk.

Sorry Al, but Export to DV in MPEG Streamclip creates a DV Stream file: the .dv type that is OK for iMovie but not so OK for FCE, which has to render its audio first.
So in MPEG Streamclip the best approach is to use Export to QuickTime AND then select Apple DV-PAL as compressor, and verify that the audio parameters you mention are in fact selected (they should be a default after choosing Apple DV-PAL), and I suggest Hiltonjoy to use this but also to carefully check that the audio parameters are correct (Stereo, uncompressed, 48 kHz).
In fact, I wonder why Hiltonjoy gets different sizes for the same clip when converted to .dv and when converted to .mov: I'd expect the resulting size to be basically the same, even though the quicktime format is different, roughly 160 MB for 40 sec (as experienced by Hiltonjoy for .dv). Could the difference due to the audio parameters?

HD Quick Time Component is missing
Hi,
if I import video scenes from my Sony HDR-HC3 on my iMac 5.1 it works great but if I want to do the same thing on my MacBook Pro there seems to be a problem. If I connect my camera a warning appears : " HD Quick Time Component is missing " It also says that you need this component to import, edit the video images you want to import and that this component comes with the iLife application and I have to install it again ... I never installed iLife, it was allready on bought computers when I bought them? What can I do? Can I install it again? And where can I find this? 'Missing' Quick Time Component
Hi guys!
I've just done a really big clean up of my hard drive and reinstalled everything, and all seems good apart from iMovie'11 (which was a part of iLife'11).
When I launch the program I get a message that reads +"The QuickTime component necessary to view, edit, import, and export MPEG2 movies is not installed. It is included with the iMovie installer; please re-install".+
I have reinstalled iLife'11 AND the applications installation DVD that come with my MBP, and still no joy. I really need iMovie up and running as I coach basketball at a pretty high level and use the program to cut my game tapes... any ideas thoughts or prayers?http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/appleintermediatecodec101.html

I can not export Flash animations successfully as a Quick Time Video. Please Help...

I have been trying to both publish and export a Flash
animation from a native Flash file as a Quicktime .mov file. I am
using Flash 8 and have Quicktime 7.1.3 installed on my Mac running
OSX 10.4.8 - I get an error message every time I try to publish the
animation as Quicktime saying "An error occurred because a required
Quick Time component could not be found." My Quick Time program
works perfectly in all other programs. I tried it on another
computer and got the same error. I tried several different settings
and worked through the Flash Help Guide with no luck.
I also tried to do File / Export / Export Movie / Quick Time
Video. When I use this option it does successfully complete an
export but Quicktime file ".mov" has missing graphics and no sound
from the original Flash animation. Can you help me please. I need
to import this animation in a Keynote presentation ultimately.

Also - try setting publish settings to flash player 5 - you
may lose some flash 8 features if you
are using any.
Personally - I find the best solution is SWF2Video
(www.flashants.com) but I am afraid there's no
Mac version (i think).
Usually Macs are better than PCs when it comes to export to
quicktime because you have the option of
choosing quicktime video - but make sure, if you are
exporting to a true video (fixed frame rate)
format you do not use movie clips or actionscript at all
(convert all movie clips to graphic or
place on main timeline).

Yesterday I was trying to upload my video and when I opened IM it told me "Missing HD QuickTime Component. The Quick Time Component necessary to view, edit and export high-definition movies is not installed. It is included with the IMovie HD installer; please re-install."
So I went and re-installed IMovie but nothing changed.
The same thing came up.Hi monica:
You need to do a custon re-install of imovie.
And it is because there's a missing QuickTime component called "Apple Intermediate Codec" that translates your HDV (hi-def MPEG-2) footage into a file that iMovie can use for editing it.
Without the Apple Intermediate Codec you won't be able to work with hi-definition video correctly.

I can't open one Quick Time movie file. It says: Quick time player can't open (names file) because the movie's file format isn't recognized. Only happens on this one file. All the others of a two hour shoot are fine.
Any ideas what's happened and is there some way to open that file and retrieve what's on it?Thanks this was useful. I have been ripping my audiobooks and I was finding that they would get uploaded to iCloud in the process, which in itself was fine, but then iTunes would not let me change the media type to Audiobook, which is annoying as it effects how iTunes treats the media. Like showing you the skip back 10 seconds button.
The general outline here helped me work around the issue and change the media type before the media was re-uploaded to iCloud.

Quick Time Pro for Mac FAILURE
The upgrade to Quick Time Pro was marketed by Apple as a "one click" answer and means to record movies. What a crock!!
I'm trying to record a streaming video/sound presentation, like a class. Right click on its link gives a URL.
So, one would think that entering the URL into QTPro would activate the video, but it doesn't. After reading this forum, I repaired permissions [whatever that means] using disk utilities, and it still fails. I've tried clicking on the QT controller just as soon as movie starts, and nothing.
Now what?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but don't know what.

[email protected]Well you have to have an account to view ( so I didn't view it) but there are a lot of ways to get flash, the easiest being to use Firefox and the free add-in DownloadHelper which will let you copy the flv file off the site to a file and then watch it in QT or MPEG Streamclip if you have the right codecs.
Install Macromedia's most recent flash component for Firefox and also Perian.
Free, free, and free. MPEG Streamclip will allow you to export the flv to Quicktime as well.
You don't need QT Pro at all and had you searched you would have saved the dough, too. -

To answer your topic title question, if QT X v10.3 is converting your files to AVI, then that would not be normal. In most cases it is the other way around. That is, QT X v10.3 converts most forms of AVI content to QT compatible compression formats in MOV file containers. While QT X v10.3 still recognizes the AVI container, on a few compression formats (like Motion JPEG video and various PCM formats) will play natively without conversion under the Mavericks' AV Foundation.
Basically, QT X under mavericks looks at the file container and the codecs it contains and, if the AV Foundation recognizes them but does not consider the combination compatible, begins an automatic conversion depending on programming specifics. In some cases only the audio or video data will trigger the conversion process and be conveerted and merely "pass through" another compression format while in other files both the audio and the video will both be converted. Unfortunately, even some of the codecs normally native to the Mac OS are also no longer supported. For instance, Mavericks now includes an Apple ProRes 422 codec component which appears to have replaced the Apple Intermediat Codec as the default "incermediate" compression format fore file editing. Mavericks also does not seem to support the Animation, PNG, or DV stream video codecs any longer.
If you don't like the way QT X v10.3 works, you have two basic options. The first to to use a different media player (e.g., QT 7, VLC, MPlayerX, MPEG Streamclip, etc.) to view your content or you can opt to manually convert your content to a compression format and container that remains QT X player compatible under Mavericks. -
I have been going round in circles, trying to resolve this
I bought the MPEG2 component from the Apple UK store on 4th July 2010. I still have the email and the order number but they are no use to me because it is more than 180 days since I ordered this from them.
My operating system got corrupted and I had to do a clean install, then a return of the relevant files, folders and applications from my Time Machine. With that should have been my MPEG2 component for QuickTime Pro but it refuses to register.
I need it to convert my videos taken on my older video camera, which is a Sony, using mpeg2. I cannot look at any of these videos any more, which is deeply irritating. Still lots of editing to do.
I think it is a bit off if I have to buy it all over again
Any ideas?

i have made a movie in imovie on my macbook pro, but apparently i don't have idvd!!!
i need to burn this so i can watch it somewhere else, but im not sure how...
ive already tried simply exporting it to Quick Time, and burned it to a dvd, but when i watched it... the sound was wrong and people's words were like muted...
what do i do?!?! i don't know where or how to get idvd!

There are two structures of DVDs
• Data-DVD - as burned from DeskTop/Finder
• Video-DVD - to be played on a DVD-Player - Needs a program that can do this
One can in iMovie - Export as QuickTime .mov and save this via DeskTop/Finder onto a DVD - BUT this will only play on a Computer and if it is a Window-PC this needs to download QT-player or VLC-player.
But no DVD-player for TV can play back this.
To get a Video-DVD then You need
• iDVD (not from Apple any more) - or -
• DVD Studio Pro (not from Apple any more) - or -
• FinalCut Pro-X (can do simple Video-DVDs) - or -
• Burn - http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html - FREE - but very PLAIN - no fancy things at all.
• Roxio Toast™ 11 Pro - Fairly advanced - and costs a bit - still very Good and lot's of great tool's included. (I love it) - Can also back convert home made DVDs to an editable mode in an OK quality. With BD-component also capable to do sort of Blu-Ray DVDs.

I'm facing a big issue with Time Machine on my Mac Book running Leopard 10.5.8 (build 9L31a) and my Time Capsule (firmware 7.6.1 (76100.4)).
I have searched a lot (during 3 days !!) to find a solution but no luck !

To quickly summarize:
My MacBook was configured to use my Time Capsule as backup disk. Everything went fine during 2 years and then one day I suddently got problems with time machine !
Time Machine was unable to access my Time Capsule. Moreover it was drastically slowing down my MacBook !
So:
1. I stopped Time Machine and tried to change the backup disk: every time I chose my Time Capsule Disk, I got a OSStatus error -6602
2. Then, I tried to access my Time Capsule from the Finder -> slow and then got this message 'Disk can't be opened because the original item can't be found'
3. I searched in the logs for the specific reason and I found:
- system.log (/var/log) :
myMacBook kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
myMacBook /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder[198]: NetworkNode::handleMountCallBack returned -6602 (the same error)
myMacBook ReportCrash[358]: Saved crashreport to /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/kextload_2012-12-30-112946_myMacBook.crash using uid: 0 gid: 0, euid: 0 egid: 0
- In CrashReporter (/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/): i see the problem coming from kextload with this exception:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: 0x000000000000000a, 0x000000000122d000
4. I tried to mount the time capsule disk with Terminal (AFP protocol):
> mount -t afp afp://admin:[email protected]/Data /Volumes/termAFPData/
result -> mount_afp: AFPMountURL returned error 19, errno is 19
These errors (6602 and 19) are neither documented anywhere nor associated to a clear description of the problem. The only thing I have found is that errno 19 is an IO error -> http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/CarbonHeaders/CarbonHeaders-18.1/MacError s.h
On the other hand, and this is the really weird part of the issue, my time capsule disk works well when I mount it with SMB protocol !!! (Or when I access it with a Windows XP machine).
So, the workaround is: mount -t smbfs //admin:[email protected]/Data /Volumes/termSMBData/
Or, in Finder -> Connect to server and there use the URL: smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Data
Not sure what is going on ... but I pretty sure that's a bug and not a hardware problem.
Is there someone who has already found a solution for this kind of behaviour ?
It would avoid me a lot of headaches and improve the support for this kind of problem.

NO, your time capsule is running 7.6.1 but it is built with AFP following increased security for LION.. that is not required or available in Leopard.. so there is no point.. it is also not as stable on the older hardware.. at least in my experience.. I have repaired about 200 of the suckers so I do see a few.
When you select firmware update in the airport utility.. hold the option key.. all valid firmware versions for your TC then show up.. not only upgrades.. select 7.5.2 and upgrade to that.
Do a factory reset when you do it is a good idea though.. start off again.
And do reset of TM.. A4 in pondini.
See if it helps.
Oh, the TC will continually complain about needing a firmware update.. turn off automatic checking of updates.. it will still annoy you for fun every few weeks but that is better than daily. -
All video applications crash when loading a video. Including web browsers, vlc and quick time
Last night chrome started crashing when trying to load a youtube video. I tried on safari and then downloaded firefox but they crashed too blaming flash player. Then when i tried to play a video using vlc that crashed too and so did quick time. Nothing will play in any application.
I've tried reinstalling the browsers, uninstalling and reinstalling flash player, repairing disk permissions, starting in safe mode and installing avast to scan for malware but none of these have made any difference. I haven't installed any updates since the last time it was working
When verifying the disk permissions i get the following and no matter how many times i repair them it says the same thing

Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?
I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?

Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.

I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT. -
I was trying to open a video I had saved in my mac, but received an error message that my video couldn't be opened with Quick Time in the format it was in, as far as I could tell the format it was in was mov.....does anyone know for format I need to change it to?

ITunes (as well as Quick Time) doesn't work
Just bought an iPod (Classic Video 160GB) and tried to install iTunes 7.5 (incl. QuickTime 7.3).
Installation goes perfectly well. However, when I try to start the programs, the problems begin.
QuickTime gives me a 'Buffer Overrun' when I try to start the program.

I tried to uninstall Quicktime but this doesn't work as the (un)installation program does a rollback at the end of the uninstallation not completing the uninstallation (even reversing it if I'm not mistaking). Have tried uninstalling it with Zsoft Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller without success.
iTunes on the other hand gives an error as well. It's one of those errors in which Windows asks you if you want to send a report. If I do, the 'Microsoft Solution Website' tells me that I haven't got the latest version of iTunes, not true offcourse.

What I already tried:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
-Deleting all temp-files through disk cleanup as well as manually
-I have Windows XP, _fully updated_
-Running multiple anti-virus and anti-spyware programs
-Ridding my C:\Windows\system32\ directory of any Quicktime files other than QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx (as suggested in the QuickTime-forum)
-Installing an older version of QuickTime (obviously didn't work because a newer version is already installed.
-Cleaning my Registry with Abexo Free Registry Cleaner
For your information, have never used or tried to install iTunes on my laptop before. I have had QuickTime on my laptop in the past but installed the Quick Time Alternative instead (which I uninstalled yesterday, hoping that would solve the problem).
As I have tried to find a solution to my problems all day now and am not able to find any answers, I hope someone here will point me in the right direction..!! Thank you very much in advance!OK you need to uninstall AVI and Ace Mega codec pack and you have already uninstalled Quicktime alternative.
Once you ahve uninstalled the codec packs
Download the stand alone Quicktime:

When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.
