JVC HD101 capture horror

I am having real problems capturing from this HDV camera. I know that it is a documented issue, but I can't find a documented solution!
Please tell me someone's had luck...
At the moment every tape I try to capture comes in as many sub clips. A new clip is made when the camera stops, but (at least using the HDV setting - the Intermediate Codec gives a slightly better result) the new clips are also sometimes created even when the on the same camera shot.
The real problem is that if this happens during DV capture, the camera rewinds and starts the clip from the beginning. With the HDV capture, the camera keeps going so I'm missing 10 to 20 seconds each time a new clip is created.
I am importing something shot on the camera at 720p 25fps. The tape was NOT striped beforehand.
Any ideas? And should I use the intermediate codec (data rate c. 6.7mb/s) or the HDV capture setting (c. 3.9mb/s)?

Read my article in the second issue of the COW magazine... free download after you subscribe (also free). http://magazine.creativecow.net/index.html It's about editing HDV in FCP... the Intermediate codec will result in lower quality, but there is a work around... You should capture natively if you don't have a capture card such as AJA's LH series card. If you do have a capture card, you can transcode the HDV material to DVCPROHD as you capture, and save yourself the loss of quality that the AIC codec shows, and keep the original timecode in tact. The AIC codec will start each clip at zero hour code... not good for a recapture for sure.
The AIC codec is 4:2:0 as is HDV, however DVCPROHD is 4:2;2 so any graphics, and stills you may bring into your project will look a lot better as well as the format gives you an all i frame format and not a freaking MPEG stream. TONS faster rendering, AND more real time playback of unrendered effects.
That said, JVC's implementation of device control, and it's apparently weak timecode recordings (nothing new there either) are causing your problem... Clean the camera... maybe you'll get a better TC signal which will result in it not capturing separate clips within a single take. You also should be running the very latest software for any success with 25fps HDV recordings I believe. That would be 10.4.9, and FCP 5.1.4. I think too that you need to be using HDV FireWire Basic 25fps as a device control setting... There is a checkbox in the Log and capture window too to turn off if you don't want separate files created each time the camera paused.
If there is a timecode break, you can also choose to ignore it, however the timecode past the break will likely be incorrect.

  • JVC HDV Capture settings + Hardware advice for HDV capture

We have 6.02 FCP Studio2. We shot JVC HDV 720 60P footage (1280 x 720) and are trying to capture thru FCP. We have the JVC GY-HD200U camera and the JVC BR-HD50 outboard deck. Other than the AJA HD 422 device, what are my options (hardware and software) to capture with Log & Capture in FCP? I need In/Out points of course.
JVC HDV says it has a great HDV workflow in FCP, but they don't tell you how (at least where we have looked on their website)
Unfortunately, Blackmagic's Intensity Series cannot control the devices via the HDMI link (One HDMI output is on the JVC BR-HD50 deck). We thought that might work.
Can anyone give us advice on the settings in FCP to control our HDV deck or Camera? We would prefer to keep everything digital, via firewire
Thank you everyone for your help. I did search for this topic and found nothing. I am sorry if this has already been covered...

Connect your deck or camera via firewire to your Mac, and then select the easy setup in FCP's FCP menu that matches the format you've shot. I'm pretty sure for a device control setting either your camera or deck would use HDV Firewire Basic as a device control setting. Other than that it should use the stock preset for the format you've shot.

  • JVC HDV Capture Problem

FCP=6.01; Camcorder=GY-HD200U; Deck=BRHD50U. The firmware on the deck and camera are the latest (0102 for the camera and 0108 for the deck) and I'm still getting a continuously recorded clip broken into several clips on log & capture. I'd rather not use the "uncontrollable" setting for capture if possible. Does any one know of a patch either in FCP or by JVC to solve this issue?
    Thanks,

This issue probably has to do with your video format - let us know:
Format shot (HDV 720p30 by chance?)
    Capture settings
    Connection type (firewire?)
This will help us narrow down the issue.
If you are sure the connection and settings are ok, try power-cycling everything, which helps to reset the deck's connection, make sure you are capturing to a properly formatted drive other than you system drive, etc.
Was this tape previously recorded on by any chance? I've seen that generate TC breaks during capture in the past.
    Hope this helps -

  • JVC HD50 capture problems

I use a JVC HD50 for capture and it works fine for older projects in SD DV, PP controls the deck and batch captures well. But if I try the same for a project set up as HDV 720p25 the deck control is doesn't work. It is set up for HDV Capture with HD/HDV Device control. Any thoughts? Thanks

Device Control are Brand -DV/HDV Device Control JVC; Type - Standard The Check Status says 'online' but the top of the capture window says offline!!

  • JVC HDV capture problems

I'm having major problems capturing from JVC GYHD101 camera.
My MacBook Pro can control the camera just fine and all my settings seem to be right, the computer will capture, but it will not capture constantly. The capture window will stay open and not report any problems, but what it will do is capture, then stop capturing, create a file (while the tape is still playing) and then continue capturing, even though the tape has moved on.
If anyone could help figure this out I would be massively greatful!

No, hense me posting in the FCP forum.
I discovered why it was doing it, FCP splits the clips where the camera has been started and stopped. And even though there's a box in the settings to untick to stop this, it doesn't actually stop it.
So when capturing from JVC HDV, I've found it is impossible to leave the tape running and capture the whole thing.

  • JVC HD201 Capture Problem

    Hello,
Seems i cannot capture HDV 1080i footage from the JVC GY-HD201.
Although having device control, and seeing the picture when "capturing now" in a separate window, i get the message: "waiting for media". When i press esc to stop the capture, no file is seen - the capture did not capture anything. No clip in the browser.
Tried all HDV setups. I heard capturing from JVC since 6.0.3 and up has errors all over. Using FCP 6.0.5.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply.
I do not know what model it is, it is in the college i lecture at.
Since i have tried 720p setups fro capture, 1080i output should not be the point.
I cannot capture ANY footage from the JVC HD201, due to the "waiting for media" message during the capture itself. Any ideas? heard it worked in 6.0.2 . . . but much time and many updates since then... there must be a fix by now.

  • Capturing problems CS4-Windows 7-JVC

    Hi there.
I am working for a company that uses a 64-bit Windows 7 computer equipped with Premier CS4. We recently moved offices and had to unplug everything. When we plugged it all back in the Firewire ports stopped working. We changed the Firewire card and the computer will now recognize 1 of our 2 camera, but will not capture on Windows Live Movie Maker or Premiere.
The small camera I have I never captured with before. I always put the tapes in the larger JVC and that has completely stopped being recognized by any computer.
When I go to capture with the small JVC, the capture window recognizes the camera, shows me the control from the camera, play, stop etc. but will not capture any frames, and the screen is black. I have the camera set to DV and I am using an i.link cable for a JVC GR-HD1U.
I do not get the blue screen that is typical before you hit play on the camera either.
Maybe this is just a setting issue on Premiere?
I am honestly not sure what preset to go with on Premiere.
ANY and ALL suggestions are welcome and will be tried. I believe the issue lies with what the camera settings are and what I should set the new project for.
    Thank you!!

Maybe that was all a bit confusing so I will simplify my issues. Maybe I can get some more feedback! Really appreciate you reading this, really need some suggestions.
We recently unplugged everything and moved offices and my JVC GY-HD100 stopped working, and now I am trying to get a JVC GR-HD1 I am unfamiliar with to work on Premiere Pro CS4, 64-bit Windows 7 and play a tape I had shot with the JVC GY-HD100.
JVC GY-HD100: Firewire port stopped working indicating what we think was a power surge while moving computer system. Therefore we changed the card and it is now recognizing devices just fine. Firewire cord still works with other devices, but camera will not show up on any computer with any firewire cord. The port in the camera is probably fried and after a phone call, JVC said they are able to fix this issue. (I just figure this background information may be useful)
JVC GR-HD1: My last hope for capturing a really important video. Premiere recognizes the camera, the computer asks what I would like to do with the device. I  I have tried every combination preset on Premiere. (really did!) thinking it might have been me. Even the ones set for the other camera. Things look good all the way up until I play and try and capture. Premiere will control the camera, but the preview screen stays black, and nothing captures. I get the message 'recorder captured no frames' when I eventually cancel.
I also tried the Legacy suggestion from John (Thank you!) with no success.
I have also updated my NVIDIA device drivers.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!!!

  • Capture problem HDV720p25 - picture too fast, sound o.k.

    Hi everyone,
I have the newest version of Final Cut Pro and Mac OSX. I want to cature HDV 720p25 material from a JVC HD101.
The software starts the camera and capture the material - no Problem.
But the captured film in final cut pro has 50 fps and runs too fast! The sound is correct.
    Any ideas? I Hope so...
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi, I'm not sure what information to give you other than it's a G5 running 10.4.11. Drives I'm not sure about and it is connected using a firewire that is showing up fine in the "About this Mac" window. Here is what it says there:
Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec
    ELURA70:
    Manufacturer: Canon
    Model: 0xE
    GUID: 0x8500009F154D
Maximum Speed: Up to 100 Mb/sec
    Connection Speed: Unknown
    Sub-units:
    ELURA70 Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10001
    Unit Spec ID: 0xA02D
When I select "Capture" the video on the camera, which is connected through a rear FireWire port, doesn't come on the computer screen. The picture reads, "Preview Disabled." The picture does appear on the camcorder itself and the run times on both the preview box and the camcorder are in sync with one another but there is no picture on the computer screen of the video I'm trying to import. When I put the camera in play and press now the the black screen pops up and reads, "THIS OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED THERE IS NO VIDEO." I can mark in and out points for clips but if I select clip FCE states that there is no video so it can't be completed.
After doing searches on the web it seems like this is a very common problem. I tried trashing the preferences, reinstalling the program, and upgrading Quicktime to 7.3. At this time I'm getting very frustrated and it seems like such a common problem and the people who have this it seems like they are never able to fully fix it because its an odd bug of some kind. Thanks for your assistance.

  • IMovie 9 won't import JVC 150 ProHD video

I shot some video with a JVC-150 ProHD video camera. The video imports fine into Final Cut Pro, but will not import into iMovie 9.
The original video was saved as a QT file with MPEG-2 video codec, which imported fine into FCP. When it did not open in iMovie, I converted the file into a mp4 format with H.264/AAC codec. Again, video imports fine into FCP, but still would not open in iMovie 9. Interesting thing is video imports in iMovieHD without a problem.
Can anyone tell me what the problem may be? Does iMovie 9 not accept the mpeg2 format (original or converted)? Do I need to change the JVC video capture settings? Any help would be appreciated?

What do you mean by getting them on my internal drive? They are on my desktop, I assume that is what you meant?
your desktop is physical located... ? yepp, on your internal harddrive (mostly) ...
harddrive-corder use a very different codec and filestructure then a tape... any kind of file and structure has its abriviations... .mods contain the pics, .mois contain some meta-data, needed to locate the pic-data on media...
    don't hesitate to use wiki
you try to use an app outside its specs... so, try to get 3rd party apps helping you, or dive down into the realms of codecs, stutctures, compressors, ..... I'm no technician, I just read a lot, tried a lot, had once in while the problem to import DVDs... or some obscure iNet downloads....
but, I prefer to use apps within concept - so, I do use a miniDV camcorder…

  • Capturing from an HD camera

I have some footage on a Panasonic, HD camcorder (SD/HDD Hybrid) and I want to import it into final cut or imovie. What is the best way for me to do this?

I just got a new HV30 yesterday and shot a 1 minute 15 seconds video to test the camera. I read many posts about problems of capturing into FCE with Canon cameras.
I just wanted to post that the capture went very smooth and my scrach disk is a seagate and is daisy chained. I wanna mention that I tested both DV anamorphic and HD.
The DV capture was as easy as my old JVC camera capture. I used DV anamorphic setting in easy settup.
The HD capture...I used HD standard setting in easy settup.
I used a regular DV tape and not DV HD as the HV30 manual recomends.(I need to buys some tapes.) So I don't know if the HD tape will make a difference capture-wise. I was expecting all sorts of incompatibility issues with the HV30...but it was very easy and without any complications. That said, I still need to test a real HD tape and shoot a 10 minutes or more of video to see if I am going to have problems.
    Ian,
You said above: "Plug the camera into your Mac and treat it like an external HD. Locate the video files and copy them to your desktop."
Is this a camera specific thing, do I need to do the same thing with the HV30?

  • Help with 720P 30 ... anyone?

    Hi,
    I have FCP 5.0 on a 2.5 GHz G5, operating OSX 10.3.9
I can capture my 720p30 footage that was shot on a JVC HD101 through my JVC HD50 deck fine. On the timeline I need to render before i can view... can someone help on this? (all sequence/capture presets are the same)
I can still cut though but when it comes to spitting it back to tape, back to 720p30 HDV, I can't. I am going through the print to tape function, the computer takes control of my deck and starts recording but when i review there is no image on the tape....?
    Any help appreciated!
    banyak

Praise the Lord! I also have EXACTLY the same problem!
I first noticed this with Google search results, as often I position my mouse over the 'Next Page' button, the scroll through and click without moving the pointer.
Indeed the first 'tap' click is not recognised, but tap again the the mouse clicks.
    THE PROBLEM:
There is a delay after the trackpad recognises the two finger scrolling before the trackpad will recognise another input. It's expecting you to scroll and scroll, so it's waiting for that. It's similar to the way the trackpad allows you to lift your finger when moving a window around the screen.
    THE SOLUTION:
No there isn't one. Naturally Apple could just allow us to tweak that option so we make the delay shorter, but they won't. Just like how they don't think the eject key on a MBA could be used to eject a SD card.

  • 720p/25 Has any one got any idea .....

720p/25 Has any one got any idea how to capture 720p/25 or when the fcp update is coming ???????
I have the new JVC HD101 top camera but can't capture Not Happy with FCP as their was a lot of talk at the NAB Show in LA that the update would be out in may??

720p25 is no officially supported format in general.
Only 720p50 is a real standard. However there is a
so called 2:2 pulldown where you double the frames,
also called 25p over 50p. This only concerns a
transparent video signal via HD-SDI. Speaking about
the Panasonic HVX200 is another story as this is a
    file based workflow.
Here you can find an article how to capture, edit and
    monitor 720p50 in FCP 5.1:
    http://www.aulich-adamski.de/en/perm/720p50-capturing-editing-in-final-cut-pro
This is also helpful for JVC GY-HD users that could use
    an HDV to HD-SDI converter.
An second article describes the Panasonic P2 workflow
with 720p25 and 72p50 but it's currently only in german:

  • Premiere Elements 8 Initial Impressions

Premiere Elements 8 First Look: Part 1.
Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8 are now installed on my Windows XP SP3 with about available 1 GB RAM and 70 GB free hard drive space and the virtual memory controlled by the operating system…not great for a heavy duty project, but adequate to overview the programs.
    1. Download & Installation. Both programs took about 3 ½ hours to download, using high speed DSL. Premiere Elements 8 downloaded and installed without problems. Installation went much quicker. But, Photoshop Elements 8 download did present challenges, first, it kept downloading Premiere Elements 8 instead of Photoshop Elements 8. Finally in the early hours of the morning, the download from the Adobe site was named Photoshop Elements 8. Great, except, once downloaded it would not launch. The launcher did not know what to do with the .7z  file. Download and use of WinZip took care of that. My default browser Mozilla Firefox was worthless for the download of either Photoshop Elements 8 or Premiere Elements 8, but no problems with my Internet Explorer 6. I had this same problem with the Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere Elements 7 downloads last year.
    2. Premiere Elements 8
    a. Organizer. I would take exception to Steve Grisetti’s picture of the Organizer in “What’s new in Premiere Elements 8?”, but maybe I was overly optimistic by “The most visible change to version 8 is that the Organizer is no longer a sub-program of Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements. It now lives as its own, separate, pretty much independent program – behaving more than ever like its professional big brother, Adobe Bridge.” He went on to say “In version 8, both programs have equal access to a single, full-featured Organizer.”
Here is my dilemma for some who want a separate video and photo catalog. If you had Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere Elements 7, you could create additional catalogs in Photoshop Elements 7. Premiere Elements 7 could use one of these catalogs, but could not create new catalogs. So then, you could have a photo catalog displaying in the Photoshop Elements 7 Organizer and a video catalog displaying when you opened Premiere Elements 7. You cannot do that anymore, and File Menu/Catalog is gone in Premiere Elements 8. You still cannot create catalogs in Premiere Elements 8, so, if you just have Premiere Elements 8, you have ONE catalog. If you have Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8, you can create additional catalogs in Photoshop Elements 8 that can be used in Premiere Elements 8, but these programs will display the same ONE catalog.
    b. Project Presets. The “New Preset” button is gone. The categories of the presets for NTSC and PAL remain the same: AVCHD, DV, “Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder”, HDV. However, two choices have been added to the “Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder” categories. Now we have HD 1080i30, HD 1080i30 (60i), Standard, and Widescreen. Here I have a problem reconciling the names and the descriptions. It was my understanding, in Premiere Elements 7 for standard and widescreen in this category, this preset category reverses the Fields: from Upper Field First to Lower Field First in Premiere Elements edits. So, now with these new choices described as follows:
HD 1080i30: 1920 x 1080i; pixel aspect ratio = square pixels (1.0); camcorders like JVC GZ-HD7; 16:9 interlaced HD video at 29:97 frames per second.
HD 1080i30 (60i): HD video from 1440 x 1080i camcorders; 16:9 interlaced HD video at 29:97 frames per second HDV 1080i Anamorphic.
When thinking HD 1080i30 preset….the JVC camcorder captures to a progressive sensor, assumed at 30 frames per second, and can record to it’s built in hard drive as 1920 x 1080i with 30 frames per second each frame with 2 fields. So, what prevents us from calling this preset HD 1080i30 (30p) Square Pixel?
When thinking HD 1080i30 (60i))…the camcorder involved captures to an interlaced sensor at 60 fields per second, and can record to it media as 1440 x 1080 with 30 frames per second, using a HD Anamorphic. So, what prevents us from calling this preset HD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic?
When I start comparing preset choices, the only reason for using these “Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder” new choices appears to be, like for standard and widescreen, to have the Fields reversed. Do you agree? Any comments on the nomenclature for these new preset choices?
    3. Adobe Folder, folders and files
If you go to the default location of the Adobe Folder (My Documents\Premiere Elements\8.0), there are some differences there:
For Premiere Elements 7 and earlier versions there were:
    Adobe Premiere Elements Previews Folder
    Encoded Files Folder
Media Cache Folder that piled up with conformed audio files (.cfa and .pek)
    Project Prel file
    Styles Folder
    And sometimes 2 .log files
Now in Premiere Elements 8, the Media Cache Folder is gone and we have the arrangement:
    Adobe Premiere Elements Previews Folder
    CA Object Track Results
    Encoded Files
    Layouts
    Styles Folder
(You no longer see the endless conforming of DVD Menus (not even used) at the beginning of the project. But, I am still trying to figure out what they did with the conformed audio files (.cfa and .pek). More on that next time, along with Premiere Elements 8 Exports as well as Photoshop Elements 8/Premiere Elements 8 intergration.

I have not gotten to Part 3 yet. This is an add on to the last add on.
I tried to find the Premiere Elements 8 Read Me file since those Read Me files usually contain "Known Bug Messages". I could not find that Adobe had put it online, but I did dig it out of the try out download folder. Here is the excerpt on Premiere Elements 8 known bugs/issues:
Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 Known Issues
Importing Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 and 4.0 Projects
    • Effect keyframes in Premiere elements 3.0 projects may not import correctly
    Capturing and Importing Video
DV Device control will be disabled and capture will not proceed normally if sound card is not present or offline.
    ·         If capture is interrupted by a system event such as switching users, locking the system, or the screensaver, the duration of the captured file will be much shorter than expected. It is recommended to disable the screensaver before starting capture, and to avoid any actions that may interfere with the capture.
    ·         For live capture from DV camcorders, you must first disable scene detect.
    ·         When importing some Flash files a “Macromedia Flash Player security" message reading “Flash player has stopped potentially unsafe operation" may appear. Click “OK”, and the file will import normally.
    ·         When capturing form HDV camcorders you may see interlace lines in the preview window, The interlace lines do not appear in the captured video
    ·         Divx files may not be imported properly and sometimes import only audio or video part of it
    ·         After completing time-lapse capture, it may take some time for the organizer to update and display the thumbnails for the captured files. Still images captured using Stop Motion are not added to the organizer.
    ·         Importing media from some devices requires that the drivers provided with devices are installed
    ·         Stop Motion capture is not supported for HDV camcorders.
    Organizer
    •       When reconnecting missing media, each grouped scene must be reconnected individually
    Edit
    ·         If issues are seen with color in preview, switch to CPU playback mode by un-checking “Enable GPU Playback” checkbox in Edit>preferences>General and restart application after saving your project.
    ·         Generation of thumbnails for DVD scene menus may take longer than expected when using HDV content.
    ·         Organizer may exhibit performance issues with large catalogs (5000-10,000 files )
    ·         With some GPU cards enabling “Accelerated GPU Effects” may cause the preview to be zoomed in.
    ·         Voice over narration may not be recorded using a mono USB microphone
    ·         When previewing audio mixes, pops may be heard as the CTI passes form one clip to the next. These pops will not appear in your exported movie
Audio mixer sliders may become “sticky” when mixing clips that have been time stretched
    ·         [Japanese  & Chinese Simplified SPECIFIC] When application is installed to path that contains double byte characters path, GPU effects/transition will not function.
    ·         [Japanese SPECIFIC] Inputting ¥ symbol in Menu templates produces a backslash ( \ )
    Photoshop Elements Integration
    • In Photoshop Elements, choosing “Edit in Adobe Premiere Elements” may not bring the Adobe Premiere Elements window to the foreground.
    • If a Photoshop Elements slideshow is sent to Adobe Premiere Elements, further edits in Photoshop Elements will not be reflected in Adobe Premiere Elements.
    • Images saved in Photoshop Elements in BMP mode using the Advanced Settings cannot be imported into Adobe Premiere Elements. This includes images created using Adobe Premiere Elements Freeze Frame function and sent to Photoshop Elements for editing. If the image is saved using Photoshop Elements Advanced Settings, it cannot be returned to Adobe Premiere Elements, and as result, the original, unedited Freeze Frame image will be used.
    • Send to Premiere Elements 8.0 will not work from older versions of Photoshop Elements
    Exporting Movies
    • Export of movies to the root directory of any drive (e.g. D:\) may fail.
    • When exporting movies over one hour to MPEG2 format, the render dialog may continue to be displayed for a period of time after the render progress bar appears to have completed. Rendering is still occurring until the render dialog boxes closes. Clicking Cancel before the render dialog box closes will interrupt this process, and your export file will not be created
    • For play back on a PSP, movies must include both audio and video. Movies exported with video only or audio only will not play back on the PSP.
    • Archival of projects with Type 1 DV-AVI files is not supported.
    • If standard definition menu templates are used when burning to Bluray, menu images s will appear of low quality
    • When attempting to burn a Bluray disc to a previously burned disc, you will see an error message indicating that the disc is incompatible, instead of an error message indicating the disc is full.
    • Movies exported in H.264 format may have a few white frames added to the end
    • Movies exported in MPEG2 format may be a few frames shorter than the original movie
This seems to answer my question about Photoshop Elements 8/Premiere Element 8 integration regarding slideshows, but may be of more widespread interest to others for the other "known bugs" cited by Adobe.

  • No Audio on DVD

    Hi ,
I have just aquired Adobe Premiere Elements8, and since I have never used this programme nor any other editing programme before, I am battling to get to grips with the basics in the shortest possible time.  I am able to get to the point of readiness to burn a DVD from a file on my hard drive. This file was captured using Windows DVD maker and a JVC DV900 video camera. However after going through the whole process the resultant DVD has no sound.  I need help as I have exhausted my meager knowledge and using too many DVDs.   Thank you heaps

    Welcome to the forum.
I could not find specs. on this camera, so you will need to help us a bit with the specifications of the resultant footage.
Probably the easiest, especially since the footage was captured from another program, would be to download the free utility, G-Spot, and run one of the files through that. It will tell you the full specifications. To save you a lot of typing, just do a screen-cap of the G-Spot screen, with the file loaded in.
Most JVC cameras capture in a proprietary format, MOD for SD footage, and TOD for HD footage. These can cause problems with PrE, though usually with Import. Still knowing the full specs. of the captured files will go a long way to solving this mystery.
    Now, a few questions:
1.) can you hear the audio, when you play the Timeline in PrE.?
2.) have you added any audio, say MP3 soundtracks?
3.) what brand of blank media have you been using?
A note: Neale's suggestion of Burn to Folder, as a test, is a good one, as that will take the blank media out of the equation.
4.) with your test DVD, have you tried playing it on both a computer and on a set-top DVD player? What is the result of both tests?
Good luck, and we look forward to hearing the answers to those questions
