JVM utilising 100% CPU resources

I have an application deployed to Oracle9iAS application server running on sunE280 with 2 processors and 4 higs ram. I have 1 oc4j process (JVM) serving my application. When there is heavy load on the system CPU utilisation peaks to 100% and the application stops responding. My oc4j processes (JVM) is running with 128m max heap size. So i increased the heap from default setting to min256m and Max512m sizes. I also increased the number of oc4j processes from 1 to 2.
At some point of time, both the oc4j processes utilise 48% of the CPU resouces each and then the application stops hanging. I did a vmstat and iostat on the system and below is o/p

Can someone provide me any clue as to why the JVM peaks in CPU utilisations and then stops responding?

Check Oracle's MetaLink (http:\\metalink.oracle.com) bug number 2218716. There is a problem with OC4J Containers and the FIXED_WAIT_SCHEME when the maximun number of connections is reached.
Just in case you don't have access to it, here is part of the document:
SUGGESTED FIX: Introduce a new cache property, CacheFixedWaitSleepTime, on OCCImpl (with setter/getter methods). In the while loop that yields when MAX+1 connection is requested, simply sleep for the number of milliseconds.
WORKAROUND: Use other cache schemes, (1) DYNAMIC_SCHEME (2) FIXED_RETURN_NULL_SCHEME
Hope the helps ...

  • Nepomukservices using 100% CPU resources

    Hello guys
Since upgrading to KDE 4.6.4 nepomukservices uses 100% of one of my beloved cores. I haven't messed with any configuration settings since the upgrade, hence that is why I believe its the cause.
By now I have give it more than 30 minutes+ of CPU time, but it hasn't done anything meaningful.
Has anyone had these kinds of symptons since the upgrade, or am I just the unlucky in in the bunch XD ? ...
Any tips on how to troubleshoot would be helpful as well.
    Thank you!

hellnest wrote:Try to rebuild nepomuk database, also disable desktop search feature in K-Runner. kde 4.6.4 is quite stable for me. It's never kill my CPU again.
I disabled the desktop search in k-runner, but it didn't have any effects. How do I go about rebuilding the nepomuk database? I tried to search for it but didn't find any helpful information.
Inxsible wrote:If you don't really use nepomuk, just disable it as described here : http://www.freetechie.com/blog/disable- … cid-10-04/
I know, I've disabled it since the problem came up, but I want to get it fixed ;-)

  • 9i Forms Hangs Abruptly consuming 100 %  CPU resource

    Pal's
I have a serious problem with one our Client running our Forms6i application deployed in 9iAS.
The earlier version of our application did not have any issue which is a client server model. But when we relaeased the new version of our application it was deployed in 9iAS and went LIVE without much Testing.
The 9iAS server is running on WIN 2000 .
The Client PC's are Win 2000 professional
The Oracle Database is 9i on WIn2000.
The problem is when from any of the client PC they try to access ( Through Browser ) one particular form the entire setup hangs ( all the clients accessing the application ) and the Application Server shows 100% usage of CPU which is ridiculous.
This is happening only with one particular form .This happen when ever accessing that form. This does not happen with any other Form associated with the same application.
Hope i'm clear with explaining the issue .
If you Gurus can help that would be greatly appreciated.

If you insist on staying with JRE 1.5, you should use at least 1.5.0_12. All previous version had too many bugs to really be usable.
There's another big problem with your setup - you are still running the base version 10.1.2.0.2 of Forms. You should upgrade to the latest patch 10.1.2.3 ASAP - a ton of issues has been fixed since the base release.
Regarding the JRE - with the latest 1.6.0_13, there's not really any good reason to stay on 1.5 anymore, even though it's still supported. However, you MUST upgrade Forms to 10.1.2.3 to use JRE 1.6.
    Hope this helps,

  • CS6 and AME 100% CPU utilisation

So this is an odd question to ask maybe as we often asked for max CPU utilisation when encoding in the past to get stuff done quicker.
But - this is entirely new behaviour for me at least. I have a 6 core i7 X980 with HT and 24GB ram. In the past, I could queue up several sequences and let them encode to H.264 in the background while i carry on editing. Worked fine with no problems.
I recently upgraded my GPU to a 4GB GTX680 from a 1.2GB GTX570. There have also been 2 updates to PPro as well since I noticed this behaviour.
So the issue is that when encoding, all 12 threads are at 100% CPU utilisation and my mouse control suffers terribly - very very slow mouse as obviously there's not enough CPU resources to drive the pointer properly. This never happened in the past as CPU utilisation was never maxed out like this.
    Anyone seen anything similar?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Hi Darren,
I've not benchmarked the two cards in Premiere - I've not noticed any difference in real world use. Reading a few comparison reviews out there kind of said the same thing too (although gaming based reviews). The reason I went for the 680 was the availability of a 4GB VRAM model which was really important for me in After Effects using complex 3D models in the Video Copilot plugin, Element 3D.
So it was worth it for the memory but maybe not just for Premiere. I don't tend to do a load of video layers at once, the most is maybe a couple of layers PIP on virtual studio type projects but then most of them end up in AE really as its just hugely more flexible and fun to work with

  • Load testing and 100% CPU Utilization - Multiple JVMs?

    Hi,
    Problem:
While stress testing the application with 20 simultaneous users, unix is 100% utilized and there is degradation in response times.
One component of the application is invoking a unix script which is executing a java program after setting CLASSPATH, PATH etc. I guess thus each execution will be invoking a jvm. At the end of the program it will do a System.Exit(). This java program generates around 15-60 barcode images. It takes 2 secs normally.
When, 5 and 10 concurrent users executing this unix script for a steady state time of 30 minutes is also working fine even through response time degrades to 4 secs.
With 20 concurrent users, unix box with 4 CPUs is 100% utilized and response time degrades to 11 secs or so.
We need to do this through unix script only because it is executed from database tier (oracle reports - rdfs) and java stored procs doesn't allow awt operations (image file creation).
I repeated this testing using a java class which just loops for 2 secs. With 20 concurrent users, it was also degrading to 6 secs or so and fluctuating between 100% CPU utilization.
Any pointers on what we should be analyzing more and how should we try to solve this issue.
    Thanks,
    Ayyappa

Stupid forums made me change the ``screen name.'' Whatever...
Anyway, it is resource intensive to invoke a new JVM per request. You can do several things but it comes down to the fact you will want to keep ONE JVM running in the background awaiting requests to do work. These requests can come from several mechanisms, such as polling a database table, sending requests over a local TCP socket, listening in on a Unix fifo file, etc, etc.
When the shell script is exec'd, connect to your JVM (for example) by opening a socket to it, enter your request for work, and wait for the response, the JVM app will listen and accept socket requests, thread off and process and then return data. Something in this form will be substantially more scalable that what is currently being done.

  • Weblogic reaches 100% CPU utilisation

I am using WebLogic Server Version 10.3.1.0. I got an application deployed in this server, which is developed with java1.6, ejb, hibernate. I start the server with 8GB of RAM assigned to it and after a day or two the weblogic server causes the use of the CPU to reach to 100% and as a result the server sort of doesn't response anymore. I will be creating 30-40 thread per managed server and one server has two managed server.  The volume will be around 30k per day. I dont know which is causing the 100% cpu utilisation and here below are the thread dumps which have taken at the time of high cpu in a server.  Please let me know where is the exact issue and where is the stuck thread (if any)? In which part the issue is occuring?

    Hi,
Based on the below doc , you can narrow down the actual Thread that is causing this high CPU.
Unexpected High CPU Usage with WebLogic Server (WLS) Support Pattern (Doc ID 779349.1)

  • 100% cpu utilisation SQL Dev 1.5 on XP

Using SQL Dev 1.5 prod version on XP on a P4 3ghz with 2gb of ram, SQL Dev executable regularly uses 100% cpu utilisation as reported by task manager.
Also frequently stops responding - no screen redraw and I have to end task.
Until recently I only had 512Mb of ram so put this down to that fact, but with 2gb still getting long 'satellite' delays - particularly with code/param insight.
    Anybody else getting this?
    ta

I know I was vahue - apologies, but it's most of the time - literally 99 to 100% cpu utilisation.
    e.g.
restart pc, login, give it a couple of mins to settle down. (p4 3ghz, 3gb ram, xp pro, sp1)
start 1.5 sqldev - wait, see the splash screen, look at task manager - memory starts going up, cpu rises rapidly to 99 - 100%
once fully loaded, open 1 connection, open one package body, split screen vertically, so I have sql worksheet and my package body open and visible.
Now sit back and enjoy the vibration coming thru the desktop - the real wooden one - as the pc's fan struggles to cope.
If I leave it for maybe 5 to 10 mins - not doing anything on the pc at all, cpu utilisation will drop significantly.
then do something reckless like edit my package body (not that big ~1500 lines) and hold on to the desk again as we start shaking once more.
great for my typing skills too, as there is no point in looking at the screen to see if I am making mistakes, as it frequently won't display anything until 3 to 5 seconds after I have finished typing
mem usage is up to 250 mb - I have not touched my pc for nearly 10 mins since doing the last edit - still at 99%

  • 100% CPU Utilisation while reading from socket

I have writted a ServerSocket program to read data from ethernet client bridge. client-bridge is a system which converts serial data to TCP packet and vice versa. I can read from the client bridge only through creating a server socket and waiting for the client bridge to make a client socket connection (ServerSocket.accept() method.
The problem that I m facing is that, the client bridge is creating connection only once. I have created an infinite loop which keeps on reading from the socket. The performance of the application goes down drastically (100% CPU utilisation through task manager) when this application is run. Is there a better way of reading data from the client bridge. The client bridge is not in our control and the server can only wait for the client to make connection.
Please help. Thanking you all in anticipation.
    Regards,
    Amitabha

If I close the client socket will the client create a new socket to
transmit data or it depends on the client application.
I have also tried creating a new socket connection for
reading each frame of the protocol. but the client
creates only one socket. What might be the problem?I bet it depends on the client app because your server app only waits for a connection from the client. So it's the client that initiates the connection. When you disconnect the client socket then you will have to wait for another client request. what you can do is to stay connected (unless of course client disconnects itself) and just keep on reading from the client socket.

  • Sr5540an 100% cpu utilisation

I have a Compaq SR5540AN desktop that has been having multiple problems.
It kept freezing, rebooting and had blue screens. It was giving Video card and memory errors.
After a while I decided to upgrade the memory to 4gb and change the O/S from Vista to W7 64bit.
My machine after the clean rebuild is running at 100% cpu utilization. After some research I suspected Malware or similar. I have purchased and run ParetoLogic PC Health Advisor and it found nothing.
I have also loaded Spybot and it ran for 24 hours and found nothing.
I'v looked at the Task manager CPU logs and nothing stands out that is chewing the CPU.
Has anyone else got an idea of why I am running so poorly?
    Thanks....Paul

    Hi Paul,
Have you tried Malwarebytes Anti-Malware? I tried Spybot and the PC health advisor with the same results as yours.
    Cheers.

  • Firefox sometimes freezes up for a few minutes and begins using 47% of cpu resources and sometimes also extra 100-200kb of memory

since updating from 3.6.xx to firefox 5, 6 and now 7, firefox sometimes will freeze while loading a site and use 42-50% of cpu resource. it also sometimes doubles or trebles memory it uses at same time as freezing, and freezes for 2 or more minutes. when it comes back sometimes it will have failed to load a page and will display the url but a white screen. this can happen any site, but seems to occur more when on image sites. usually i have more than one ff window open, one of which is an iboard, and the freezing seems to occur more often when either posting, or when opening a subboard or more often a thread in tabs or new windows. problem seemed to be helped when i disabled a recently installed java plugin but didnt disappear, and it can still happen anytime with only one window/tab open. the only common thing seems to be the site is either refreshing, or loading.

    Try:

    *Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/

  • Firefox using almost 100% CPU - hogging resources - hanging

After several hours of operating Firefox starts using almost 100% CPU - with peaks of 100% occurring in rapid succession - FF hangs until CPU useage drops below 100%
Followed recommended troubleshooting as recommended on this site:
    * Started in Safe mode - no problems occurred.
    * Disabled all extensions; Plug-ins left operating.
    * No replication of problems.
    * Enable 1/2 of extensions up to Flashblock - restarted - seems ok
    * Enable most remaining extensions
    * (There are 3 Java extesnions - only enabling one) - again seems ok
    * Some hours later - problem reoccurred. Each time CPU useage peaked at 100% (according to Task Manager) the Firefox Window flickered & was unresponsive.
    * Deleted cache - no change
    * Disabled recently added programs - no change
FF opens and closes normally & completely. '''Problem only seems to occur after FF has been operating for some time'''
This has occurred intermittantly before but has become chronic over the last few days. Apologies if I've been repetitive or explained poorly - FF has hung several times while typing this.

No issue for me, after 4 loops my CPU load was around 18%.
    Firefox 33.1.1 under Windows Vista.

  • LIRC - 100% cpu usage while pressing a button

    Hi all.
I'm having some problems with latest lirc versions. It just uses 100% of my cpu while I press any key on the remote. For example, with xbmc, pressing a remote control button makes a one second video lag and frame dropping due to high cpu usage...
I'm using latest kernel and lirc in testing repo
Pinnacle pctv remote (and receiver, rs232 ou ttyS0).
I can't follow the wiki since kernel 2.6.25 (maybe), if i do modprobe lirc_serial (and before a setserial uart none), on irw, nothing happens. -> this used to work before.
I've edited /etc/conf.d/lircd in order to make this remote to work. I don't need anymore to load lirc_serial and remote works... but uses ALL CPU resources.
    Solutions? Anyone with same problem?
    Thanks friends:D

  • IMac at 100% CPU after 10.5.8 update

The update to OS 10.5.8 appears to be running OK on my MB Pro, but not on an iMac I did a fresh install of OS 10.5 and then upgraded to 10.5.8 - the CPU is at 100% all the time!

What process is consuming all of the CPU resources? /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor. Without know what is consuming resources, it would be difficult to make a determination.

  • 100% CPU using LabView 7.1 and DSC module

Seven years ago I used BridgeView and PXI to execute a project, and the results were so good that after that initial system, I installed one more using BridgeView, and three more using LabView 7.1.
BridgeView is working very well, but lately, LabView 7.1 is giving me more and more problems. It all started in a system running LabView 7.1 and DSC on Windows XP, using a PXI-8187 controller with a PXI-1042 chassis. I have two PXI-6533 digital I/O boards, one PXI-6030E multifunction, one PXI-6713 analog output board, one PXI-6602 counter board and one PXI-8422 serial com. board. In may/06, all of the sudden, the CPU went to a 100% use. Since I am running PID's to control a flash-butt welding machine in a steel factory, this was extremely dangerous. I changed the controller and everything went back to normal. It was running fine until december/06, when the same behavior appeared again. This time changing the controller did not help. We increased the system memory, from 256 MB to 512 MB and everything worked fine. But one month later (january/07) the fault reappeared. This time we changed the chassis and from that moment to this time, we are running smoothly.
Application problems were suspect from the very first time this problem appeared, but I was unable to identify the source, if any. I used PROFILE VI's and apparently the write/read tags were taking all the processor resources. However, changing the routines and disabling communications, and optimizing CPU intensive programs never solved the CPU overload.
Until now, I was aware of only one system showing this erratic behavior. But today I went to check another system, with a totally different application. This one is used to measure the thickness of the steel sheet on a rolling mill. Is not so resource-intensive, but the maintenance folks told me that every time they turned off this particular system, they always had problems trying to turn it on.
I was suspecting of a PLC-communication related issue, but what I found turned my alarms on. I turned off the system, which was fully functional, and turned it back on, and there it was, CPU load at 100%!. Is exactly the same problem that I have on the welder. This system has a PXI-8184, a PXI-1042 chassis, Windows XP, one PXI-6030E, one PXI-6713 and one PXI-6533. I battled for 20 minutes to put the system back in normal conditions.
I specified every single board, installed everything and programmed all the applications. The BridgeView applications have never showed anything like this. I am using the DSC (Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module) on both applications, and the Lookout Protocol Drivers are communicating to Modicon PLC's.
Please, I need help to solve this issue. I believe none of your actual Knowledge Base "100% CPU" articles apply to my case...
    Thanks in advance...

    Thanks for your reply...
Yes, sometimes I have the feeling that the systems works again because some file or database gets initialized after so many reboots.
Intentionally I turned off all the events and alarm logging to disk. Also the historical data logging is disabled. This is done by code, every time the main VI is started. This was included precisely to save CPU processing power. However, I am communicating to PLC's, and of course I have to declare variables inside the citadel database to make the communication possible.
Right now I can't have access to the application, because the mill is rolling, but during the next maintenance stop I will check the database location and size, and I could change the directory location the next time the fault comes up.

  • Sessions with Event "class slave wait" taking 100% CPU

    Hi experts,
I have an issue in an 11.2.0.2 RAC database with 2 standby nodes that are driving me nuts.
All started when I've been told there are 2 Oracle processes consuming too much CPU in the environment.
I found 2 processes which takes 100% CPU each. These processes are Oracle processes into the DB and checking them out although they are registered in v$process and v$session, there is nothing related to them in v$bgprocess so I could not find out which oracle processes started these 2 OS processes.
The view v$session shows them ACTIVE in the event "class slave wait". There aren't too much information about this event, at least I failed to find...
Using dbms_monitor and dbms_system to create trace events did not create any tracefile. Only ORADEBUG was able to create events but with nearly no information inside the trace files.
Questions I need to have answered or at least hints that I can follow to find the answer:
    1) what is causing the CPUs to be consumed at 100%? Which process?
    2) Why does these processes are using that much of CPU?
    3) What can be done to safely get over it?
Honestly I don't know where else to look at except trying to get some help. Could someone give me a hand please?

Hi Pal, thanks for your reply!
    Here are the answers:
    1. If it is RAC there is no such construct as a "standby node" and you say you have two of them. Please be specific ... is this RAC or Data Guard or a combination? Or do you have a three node cluster with all services pointing to only a single server wasting all of the resources of the other three?
A: This is a combination of them. We have 2 nodes in a RAC environment shipping logs to two physical standby databases in another site.
    2. Two processes can not be at 100% of CPU any more than I can be 200% awake. Please show us how you arrived at this conclusion, on what hardware and operating system, and include a formatted (read the FAQ to learn how) extract showing what you are seeing.
A: top in Linux shows two oracle processes consuming 100% (or nearly of it) of 1 CPU each. This is a 16 cores server (each primary node) so 2 of these are working on full capacity to service the described processes.
    3. What processes? Name them and again run a SQL statement and post the output so we can see what you are looking at.
A: Like I said before I failed to find which background process they belongs to as there are no indications of them in v$bgprocess and in v$session/v$process either. I can see them in v$process and v$session but again, there are no indications of for which bg process they belong to.
    4. Is anything slow? Are there any problems with the system or are you only reacting to two numbers you think are too high?
A: No, system is not slow because of that but the client wants to investigate and have it sorted as it is not normal.
Additionally I found a bug in metalink which seems to be the culprit, but I'm unsure yet. This is Bug 12929268 : HIGH CPU ON ORA_O00N PROCESS
Is any other information that I may provide you?
    Thanks for help!
