K1 - HDMI video out issue

Hello,
First post to this forum.
I bought my K1 end of November.  I purchased two micro-HDMI cables, and not seeing video out.  Briefly saw the picture on screen once or twice, but nothing consistent.  Have plugged my K1 into 4 or 5 different HDMI-enabled monitors/TVs, no luck.  The cable doesn't seem to sit very securely in the hdmi port.  These are definitely micro HDMI cables I purchased from two different sources (not mini-HDMI).  They may only have been HDMI 1.3 version cables, but I think they should have worked.
Sent my K1 in for Lenovo service and came back this week. Everything with HDMI checked out according to Lenovo support.  I actually just ordered two more "high speed" 3 ft cables from monoprice hoping this solves the issue (version 1.4).  I should have the two new cables next week
Has anyone else had issues with HDMI video out?  I would like to know from others if the HDMI worked well for them.  Don't know what to expect.
Thanks!

My Micro HDMI to HDMI cable works fine with my K1.  I have to watch that my micro HDMI plug is fully into the K1's socket, because my case sometimes is too close to the socket and the plug touches my case preventing the plug to fit all the way into the socket and making connection.  Like the case.   It's a MoKo from Amazon.com for $20.

  • Device that can split HDMI video out

I'm starting here before i might get sold something that won't work...
Am running a late-2012 i7 2.3 quad Mini in a studio.  I (will) have two matching Acer 24" LED
monitors that need to display the same screen simultaneously- the 2nd monitor in an adjacent room.
I was going to use Thunderbolt/MiniDisplayPort>DVI for that monitor but the Mini is maxed out - every
port is being used for something and i need the TBolt for an audio device.  Hence am considering
splitting the video out.  Question - will a passive "Y" type splitter work and does it put any extra drain
on the Mini in a way that might 'tax' it too much -- or is there a powered device that would be better
suited for this task and if so, any suggestions of a model or two that are known to be reliable?
Also, would a passive splitter make the display on either of the monitors dimmer ?  I seem to recall
somebody saying they had an issue where one or the other was less bright when using a splitter(?)
Thanks for any info you might have!  Much appreciated!

Hi Gary, thanks for your reply.  My question then would be, of the fairly inexpensive 'active' devices pointed out in the comparison review mentioned earlier - i.e.  http://hdmi-switcher-review.toptenreviews.com/
I wonder why any of those wouldn't serve my purposes fine - that is, a switcher.  Or alternately, perhaps there would be cheaper active  VGA (vs DVI) splitters for something in the realm of less than $100 that would do the trick.  For our needs, even if i needed to run VGA (which both monitors are capable of) it wouldn't be such a critical application that this would be a major factor - vs. the DVI..  I would just be going HDMI>VGA split box>two monitors
I just recalled using a passive VGA splitter cable a couple of years ago on an old Mini now that i think about it - the resolutions matched on the two identical monitors - and both did display without distortion in that case.
Even though i believe there was a bit of a dimming effect on both, it wasn't so extreme that they weren't acceptable.  Still, i would buy an active powered splitter - just wonder if i wouldn't be fine to go with something in the under-100.00 set of options shown in the 'reviews' link and if not, what the problem could be. THanks!

  • S-video out issue

i like to use my powerbook to play movies and such that are on my computer on the t.v. to do this i use the s-video out. but to be able to to use it i need to restart with the s-video cord plugged in.
is there any way to use the s-video out without having to restart? this is the only time that my friend (who has a dell laptop) has one up on me- he doesn't have to restart to use his s-video out.
    any suggestions?
    thanks.

You should be able to just go to the Displays System Preference and click on the Detect Displays button. That should activate the s-video port. By the way, you wil need to have the cable connected and your TV on and ready to accept a signal.

  • HDMI audio out issue

I'm having a weird problem with audio over HDMI from a Macbook Air passing through a tv (Toshiba smart tv, model 50L7300UC) to a soundbar.
The soundbar is hooked up to the tv via HDMI ARC, and it works fine for audio from the cable PVR, from online sevices such as Netflix accessed through the TV itself, and from a PC (a Windows 8 tablet connected via a mini-Displayport to HDMI cable, which provides both audio and video). But with the Macbook Air, using the same mini-Displayport to HDMI cable, video is fine but the sound won't output to the soundbar.
Oddly, the sound does work from the Mac if played through the TV speakers, so the audio signal is definitely going out, but if I switch sound output from the tv speakers to the soundbar, nothing comes out. I've tried different settings on the Mac's audio output (using the Midi Audio utility), but that doesn't seem to matter. I've asked on a Toshiba tv forum but received no answers. Any ideas?

Thanks you. Problem is solved. The cable wasn't plugged in properly.
In spite of video rendering smoothly, audio started coming only when I disconnected the cable and plugged it in hard.
Perhaps I was pampering my phone too much

  • Using HDMI video out on iPad 2

Quick question that it seems to be hard to search the answer to (everything leads to Airplay or video playback...)
    - Can you enable video mirroring to a TV connected with the HDMI adapter from an iOS Air App?
    - If so, what's required to make this work?
    Thanks!

I tried those things. If you're using mirroring, then you see either a 4:3 or 3:4 copy of the iPad screen, and it's safely in from the edges of the TV screen. Probably to be compatible with old CRT TVs. If you play a video in Safari, it will initially be in the same mode, but if you touch the full screen button, the video zooms up in a mirrored state until the moment that it becomes full screen. Then the internal display on the iPad just shows the controller, and the TV shows the 16:9 video right out to the edges of the TV.
If you're using StageWebView, or the native player, from a Flash app, I think it would behave the same way.

  • Ipad Mini :Lightning /HDMI Video Out Not working

I just tried a new Apple Ipad/IPhone AV HDMI/ Lightning adapter to try and play videos to my TV/Monitors thru their HDMI Port.
The Ipad Mini recognized it was plugged in and notified me it was playing thru my TV.
But I got no audio/video thru the TV and no indication it was getting a signal thru the adapter.
    What am I doing wrong?
The HDMI input in my Flatscreen HD TV shows my Mac Mini screen perfectly and any videos I have thru it.
Bad adapter, bad HDMI cable, operator error?
What is the system NOT playing content?
The $49.00 adapter should work flawlessly at this price point, imho.

Took a trip to the Genius Bar and about 2 minutes to correct: The Dynex HDMI Cable from Best Buy didn't work. The Apple one works fine.
Now I find my Movie Download from Comcast On Demand won't play thru the adapter. The Movie plays fine on the Mini, but I get a screen warning it's being blocked by Apples' Relationship with Starz. Funny, Comcast says it works fine. Another example of Apple forcing me to use the I-Tunes store on their products if I want to see it on their Hardware? If I pay for the rights thru Comcast, and they don't limit my Hardware, is it right for a Computer Maker too?  After the E-Books price fixing probe...are these kinds of issues next?

  • Satellite L750D - no HDMI video out on external TV

I have a Satellite L750D and a SyncMaster Smart TV
I want to hook up my laptop to the TV with a HDMI cable.
When connected, my laptop discovers the TV and can create an extended desktop but the TV says no signal.
I have tested the TV with another laptop and it works fine.
I deleted the display driver and was able to get some video on the television but the colour was bad and the option to extend was disabled. On top of this I was unable to change my screen resolution.
I installed the latest drivers provided by Toshiba which is dated 09/05/2011. Same issue, no signal.
    Any suggestions on a fix?
Is there later video drivers I can download?
AMD suggest I go here for drivers.
    All help appreciated.

    Hi
I guess you installed Win 7. Right?
    > I installed the latest drivers provided by Toshiba which is dated 09/05/2011
    There is a newer display driver released at 04/13/12 [AMD display driver v8.911.6 Windows 7 - 64 Bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=6463&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=30&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=81347&OSI D=30&driverLanguage=42]
    Install this one.
Furthermore you should install other tools like Toshiba Value Added Package, AMD Display Tool, ATI Sound Driver as well as Conexant Sound driver and others.
Then you should be able to use FN + F5 in order to switch to the external video output

  • N460GTX CYCLONE and HDMI TV out Issue?

I was going to buy the MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1GD5/OC GeForce GTX 460. I mainly will use it for my TV out via HDMI to my plasma TV. It probably seems like overkill for what I am using it for, but I want a powerfull card in case I ever decide to do gaming. I also like this card because it is quiet(from what the reviews say).
However, there is one question/problem...I read on the newegg reviews that a customer said:
"Cons: This card WILL NOT output correctly to a standard HDTV. I use a Panasonic TC-P50G15, and to get this card to output correctly your TV MUST have the ability to turn off overscan. This is not discussed at all, and you will read multiple items about this on the MSI Forums. I initially couldn't figure out why this card wasn't outputting correctly, and the MSI customer support couldn't either. Took LOTS of digging to figure out what the reason was."
Is this a known issue? Would I most likely have this problem? There isn't an option on my TV to over scan off.

We don't known for such issue, you may ask msi here: http://support.msi.com/

  • Extended Desktop (video out) issues

Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up an extended desktop onto another monitor using my iMac G5, 1.8 GHz. Mirroring the desktop is fine, and the help screen says that if there's no "Arrangement" option, then it won't be able to set up the extended desktop. I don't see this, but I seem to remember having this computer use a second display as an extended desktop before. Is there a solution for this or am I destined for mirrored desktops only?

yep, sounds like your computer doesn't support spanning, only mirroring...
As someone else said there is a firmware extension script called 'screen spanning doctor' (google it). I wouldn't call it a hack as you can remove it by resetting your pram, i think... however, it can mess your computer up, so really think before you want to use it!!

  • S-video out issues

I've been hooking up my macbook to my tv to watch tv shows etc... Unfortunately now the image is black and white, flickers, and I can only see the top half of the image. The top of the image is in the middle of the screen if that makes sense. Any ideas how to trouble shoot this? Is is the macbook or the s-video dongle I got from apple?

So you're saying it was working before and now it isn't? Could it be that the resolution or refresh accidentally got switched to something not compatible? Check the settings in Displays preferences on the MacBook.

  • Video Out on iPhone 4 and iOS 6

To watch downloaded video, I connect my iPhone 4 to my TV using an AV dock-to-component cable. Since installing iOS 6, my iPhone says it "does not support that accessory." I knew of the video out issues with iPhone 5 but didn't read anywhere that it would break functioning video on an iPhone 4. You could call me a very unhapppy camper.
Does anyone have a solution or a workaround?

I am having some crazy issues over the last couple days and I live in SF Bay area too. On AT&T not Verizon. Updated to ios6 almost a month ago and didnt start having issue until Thursday
First I'm stuck in a call, can't end or go to screen that shows the keypad or put on speaker; nothing.
2.Then on Fri no badge on SMS app and all new and old texts gone.
    3. Can't even start new sms from icon in top right nor from send message button in each contact
Does any of this sound familiar?

I need to connect I-Mac G5 to HDMI TV, I think I need this: Video Out: mini-VGA (mirror only) to HDMI, where can I buy? Apple Bluewater no help.

VGA is an analog signal HDMI is digital. A simple cable would not work you would need something that converts the analog signal to digital.
A search of VGA to HDMI turned up a few possibilities but nothing specific. In any case the picture on the TV will not be very good given the source.
You should check to see if the TV has a VGA input. Some TV's have a computer connection port and this is usually VGA.

  • IPad video out to HDMI mystery

I hope we can shed some light upon this.
I was wondering, what exactly Apple does with the video out feature while the iPad is connected to a 16:9 flatscreen TV via HDMI (digital AV adapter).
    What I found out:
The nominal iPad 3 resolution is 2048 x 1536, which does not fit 1080p, so the iPad scales the home screen down to what? No information about it in the iPad specs and the manual
The home screen is appearantly scaled down to 1536 x 1024, while the output is 1920 x 1080 pixels - so the home screen has a black frame
When using Photos app to view photos, the iPad screen is shown 1:1 on TV - still black frame
When using iPhoto app to view/edit photos, the output to TV is different than on iPad display - photos on TV are displayed in full height (if 3:2) and full screen (if 16:9). Unfortunately, the photo on the TV does not zoom
When using Movies app to view 1080p footage, the TV shows 1080p full screen
When using Movies app to view 720p footage, the TV shows 1080p full screen (video is upscaled by iPad)
What I'm ooking for is an app to show photos in 1080p full screen with zoom. I've tried about 5-8 different who are all supposed to do that - but they all failed. There was even one app that acted as a DLNA server so the TV loaded the photo from the iPad and did the decoding/display, but a TV is not designed for this.

*If your Display Preferences are set to Extended Desktop Mode (Mirroring Off) then it is possible to select and have a different Desktop background image for each Display.*
    Try this:
*1. Go to: System Preferences and select Displays, then click on the Arrangement tab and look at the box for Mirror Displays, is it checked or unchecked?*
    a. If you want the displays to show the same image (Mirroring) then check the box.
    b. If you want to use the connected display for viewing different wIndows (Extended Desktop) then uncheck the box and go to step 2.
*2. Go to: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Savers and click on the Desktop tab.*
    a. Now you should see a Preference window on each Display which will allow you to select or change the image on each Display.
