K7-Master Unknown CPU w/ AthlonXP 1800+

Hello guys,
For all of you that can remember back to the K7-Master,
I just bought a AthlonXP1800+ for the system.... Installed it and now the BIOS and WinXP read it as an unknown CPU. So I reflashed the BIOS with the updateded one. V1.5 I set everything in the BIOS to autodetect. 11.5X133=~1533Mhz or so. The BIOS and WinXP seem to read the correct speed just not the type. (No effect on "Unknown CPU") Am I missing something? I checked the CPU support and it says the 1800+ is supported. However I dont understand the difference between a "Palomino" and "Thoroughbred" the latter one is not supported and I would venture a guess that if it wasnt supported it wouldnt run if I accidently got a Throughbred. So I thought I was covered. Everything in the system seem to be running correctly. I have had no crashes or such. Any help you guys can give a noob like me is appericated.
Thanks,
Dan

Rob was correct to move you here...the Northbridge chip on this MB was AMD and the Southbridge chip was VIA but we always denote boards by the Northbridge chips. Here's yours:
Chipset
    AMD® 761 (569 BGA) Chipset
-- Supports 266MHz high speed, split transaction system bus.
-- AGP 4x and PCI Advanced high performance memory
   controller
-- Supports 266MHz DDR SDRAM technology
VIA® VT82C686B (352BGA) Chipset
-- Enhanced Power Management Features
-- Integrated Super I/O (FDC, LPT, COM 1/2, and IR)
-- Dual bus Master IDE Ultra DMA33/66/100
-- Integrated Hardware Soundblaster
-- DirectSound AC'97 Audio
-- ACPI
And I'm a bit confused as to why you're here really...if you put a processor in your MB and it worked, even if it's not supposed to be supported, what's the issue? If it ain't broke don't fix it, run some tests and see if it's better than what you previously had and then if it is go with it!! LOL  :D
Take care! 8)

  • MSI 6382E Socket A Unknown CPU with 1600 or 1800 Duron CPU

    Hi all
    Hope someone can help me.
I have the MSI 6382E MB and flash with V4.7 bios and it still doesn't recognize the Duron 1600 or 1800 CPU.
It reads as unknown CPU when I boot up and in control panel under windows System it reads Unknown CPU type, 1.2 gig.
What can I do to make the MB see the CPU?

    Thanks

The KT133 chipset will NOT support ANY XP CPU. Your chipset has a 100 fsb and the largest cpu that it will support is a 1.4 200FSB T-bird. All TURBO boards V3 and up use the KT133A chipset and WiLL support the XP CPUs, though the TURBO2 Ver.5 will support all XPs and the 2200 T-BRED cpu.  BIGDADDY51 CT.USA I did have a PRO2A that died, thats how I ended up with the TURBO2. The durons and T-Bird 200fsb are getting hard to find. and the TURBO2 board makes an excellent upgrade for around $60. If you are using pc133 ram, everything from the old board will work. The way MSI writes the bios descriptions makes it seem like it would work, but it doesn't ,as all bios 3.0 and above are for the KT133A chipset.

  • 1.15GHz on a AthlonXP 1800+

As the subject line says, my 1800+ cpu is running at 1.15GHz. This is my Motherboard http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/doc2/a14911.html with a AthlonXP 1800+ cpu. and this is my 3dmark http://service.futuremark.com/servlet/Index?pageid=/orb/projectdetails&projectType=6&projectId=6321482 . Not all bad I guess, but I thought I would get a bit more out of it. I have not changed the fsb, I am running at 100fsb because Im not real sure but I think I have pc100 ram. So I take it that I cant change to 133fsb ? Anyway, are there something in the Bios that I could get to corectly run my cpu at the 1.5 Ghz or so that it is suppose to? Everything seems stable, curent temp. running at 42c and just a little hire when gaming, gaming is just not up to par. Im running WinXP, and have turned off the system restore, and anything else that hogs resources. Please give me some help and understanding about cpu clocking for I am a Noobie, this was the first MOBO I have ever installed...

It probably can be done otherwise. (Unlocking CPU and setting Multiplier to 15...if 15x is supported) But that would void your warranty, and is rather risky. The FSB would also stay at the 'lousy' 100MHz which doesn't give you the max out of your cpu / system
They way you described for replacing the ram would work just fine. Sometimes it even isn't nessecary to reset the CMOS

  • There was an error opening the database for the library "/Volumes/Aperture Master/Unknown/Aperture Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary".    what do I do now?

There was an error opening the database for the library “/Volumes/Aperture Master/Unknown/Aperture Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.
What do I do now.  I cant access the photos on the drive.  The only option is Quit?  what ??????????
Please help ready to throw computer and drive out the window.  I have a deadline of next Tuesdaythe 11th.

Start Aperture while holding down the option and command keys. You'll get a Photo Library First Aid dialog as below.
Try Repair Database first. If that doesn't work, then redo the startup with option-command and try Rebuild Database. These repair processes can take a long time with a larger library.
If all that fails, you can try creating a new library from scratch and then try importing the old library into the new. This sometimes can fix problems that can't be repaired the First Aid way.
Also make sure the drive where the Aperture library is located is working properly. You can check it with Disk Utility app.

  • KM2M - "unknown cpu type"

    Hi,
I have KM2M with VIA® ProSavageDDR™ KM266, the latest bios, and AMD Duron 1400Mhz with Barton Core. During bootup the bios show "Unknown CPU type".
    Can anyone help me?  thx

it would seem next bios will fix that 0.14 ,but its not released on the site?

  • Unknown CPU Type?

My AMD Athlon XP 2500+ is detected as an "Unknown CPU Type"? I don't have any idea why it may be doing this and any help would be cool.

i couldnt help it...but i'm scared to flash bios.. i might try it.. i dunno but i dont want a dead mobo... if someone can explain the process i might.. another problem is that the biostar site doesnt support my mobo.. i have the M7VIT and they only have support for the M7VIT Pro which the only difference is the Pro has LAN and mine doesnt ( the pro is also red and mine is black which doesnt make a difference) in other words i dont have the new bios to flash to.

  • MSI Z68MA-ED55 B3 + Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler Compatibility

Guys, Anyone please advise if Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler is compatible to Z68MA-ED55 motherboard. What i exactly mean is that will it fit without me having to move the RAM to other slots? Thanks guys!

Depends on the RAM. If you intend to get flashy RAM modules that have heatspreaders (useless for all practical purposes) as high as mountains, then you have a problem. If you stick to JEDEC standard modules, i.e. black chips on green sticks, or Low profile modules, then these should fit just nicely.
Suggest you read the technical design document of the cooler and check what the clearance is from the heatsink upwards to where the cooling fins start. Check the technical design specs of your intended mem modules and see what the height is. That should give you a good indication.
If you want an excellent cooler that has plenty clearance by design, consider the Zalman 9900 series.

  • K8MM-ILSR: Unknown CPU & Audio

    Hello,
I have an K8MM-ILSR motherbord. I installed a Sempron 2600+. The BIOS reports Unknown CPU. Why is that?
Also I have installed the front audio headers from my case. When I plug in a headset in the front ports, the rear speakers are still active. With the same case and a different motherbord when I plug in the front ports the rear speakers turn off.
How can I get the rear speakers to turn off when I'm using front audio?
    Thanks

    Hi!
    I bought a K8MM-ILSR mainboard and a AMD Semperon 64 2800+ E6-Stepping CPU.
After Installation the BIOS as well as Windows XP tells me, that I am running an unknown AMD CPU. Having browsed through the global MSI-webpages, I had to find out that the latest E6-stepping of the Semperon 64 processor is not supported by the BIOS. This is a major hassle as I am unable to use the Cool 'n Quiet feature among other things thus giving me fans at full speed and a system which is always on full power.
I have already installed the latest AMD K8 Driver and the latest C'nQ-Software, nonetheless these software parts are not helping.
Can you please release a BIOS update for this particular mainboard as I would like to keep my CPU and have it fully supported. Thanks you very much in advance.

  • K8T Master 2 CPU backplate

I just got 4 of these motherboard for a project I am doing and NONE of the secondary CPU slots have backplates. How am I supposed to install the HSF with nothing to screw it into. The back of the socket shows an outline of where the back plate SHOULD be but its not on either 4 of these motherboards, and I ordered them from 2 different websites. In the instruction manual it just says to screw down into the backplate but its preety hard when thier isnt one. anyone have a workaround or anything?

I have a very similar problem,  i just bought one of these boards and i have no retention bracket for the second CPU.   i cant find one anywere, all my google searches send back aftermarket cooler reviews(which i had to buy after i found out my opteron coolers woudnt work), not retention brackets, and all my trips fo comp stores have given me nothing but plastic p4 brackets that are incompatible with this board.  If someone can at the very least link me, or give me the part number of these brackets it;d be much appreciated, otherwise i'll be going back to tyan boards, seems you getwhat you pay for
btw  anybody need some stock opteron 246 heatsinks? all alunimun, maybe i'll add them to my bawls bottle collection.

  • [Athlon64] RS482M4 - no boot, unknown cpu revision

    Hello everybody!
I bought the new motherboard RS482M4 for my AMD 64 3200 (Venice). After installing the cpu, i tried to boot the system. But after counting the RAM and initializing the hard-disk, a error message appeared:
    Code: [Select]
The processor(s) installed in your system have an unknow revision. System halted.
    So I can't boot! And I can't access the bios. I tried pressing DEL, F10, Shift+F10....
So I think probably it's a Bios problem, because the CPU is listed at the start of the Boot (something like AMD Athlon 64 3200). But how can I update the bios? And will that help?
    Thanks and greetings from switzerland!

Change default settings in bios. The settings in BIOS should be changed to HALT on: NO ERROS.
That way you'll get past the error screen bro.

  • K8T Neo-F (ver. 2.0) Unknown CPU Problem!

    Hi all,
I've a really big problem with two mainboard K8T NEO-F (MS-6702 VER 2.0). I'm trying to build two pcs with these boards and two AMD Sempron64 2800+ Sock754.
The problem is that when I turn the system on, immediately after all post messages like SATA controller diagnose, Realtek network boot, checking NVRAM, I get this message:
    "Warning unknow CPU type"
    "System halted"
Then I can't even reboot pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL or getting into bios setup pressing DEL. The system is frozen and I can't reboot.
I've tried to flash the bios using the recovery feature (CTRL+HOME and floppy disk with bios inserted), it starts flashing and than when I get those four beeps, I rebooted and I get the "system halted" message again.
I saw that the latest bios for K8T NEO Series is NOT for version 2.0 like these two ones that I've got.
What can I do? Please someone help me...
    Regards,
    Paolo

    Thanks to everyone who replied...
    The mainboard is not K8T Neo-V it's K8T Neo-F v2.0 infact on the PCB it's exactly signed MS-6702 VER 2.0.
I really can't update the bios since I can't even boot up my system. The only way to flash the bios seems to be trying to find the correct bios for this mainboard and flash it through the bios recovery procedure (pressing CTRL+HOME during boot).
Otherwise I've to find some other old CPU that is being supported by this mainboard, but this seems quite incredible to me! In also from my local distributors, new sock754 CPU are just Sempron64 ...
Someone could help me finding a bios update for Sempron64 support for this mainboard?
    Regards,
    Paolo

  • K7D Master - L whats the biggest cpu?

    Hi ppl
When i bought my K7D Master - L it was simply because my old pc crashed and burned and i wanted to "play" with a dual system :D I didnt have the money so somethings were bought with the idea of upgrading later on. I bought 2 XP1600 cpu's and modded them and everythging seems fine BUT..... now i have the money i would like to upgrade them to the fastest cpu the K7D Master - L can handle. So what is it ? MP2200? MP2400? or MP2600?
    At the moment i use...
    256 reg'd Crucial pc2100 RAM
    430 True Power Antec PSU
    ASUS TI4200 GFX
Also, im using BIOS 1.5 which i updated from 1.3. I am very weary about the BIOS updates for this motherboard as i have read sooo many update horror stories plus MSI keep taking the BIOS's away again ie. 1.6. Now i have got my hands on BIOS 1.83 yet im not wanting to update to it just yet (im tooo scared). Now could i update straight from 1.5 to 1.83 or should i get a hold of 1.6 and 1.73 ?
Is MSI going to be putting 1.83 on the web soon or is it just a beta of sorts?
    Thanks for any help

  • MSI Master 7 6341 Dead after Liveupdate 2

I just installed the live update 2 program on my computer. I ran the update, and it suggested I update the BIOS. I allowed it to update the BIOS. It automatically rebooted. It will no longer boot up.
    Specs:
    MSI Master 7 6341
    640 MB DDR PC2100 Memmory
    80GB Maxtor HDD
    AthlonXP 1800+
    ATi Radeon 9500 Pro
The computer had been running fine for 1.5 years. I installed live update 2. It upgraded the bios. Now it will not boot. LEDs read two green two red.
    Please advise.
    Jeff Prince
    Broomfield CO  ?(

The fastest way to get it fixed is http://www.badflash.com or http://www.flashbios.org (order new pre flashed bios chip).
You can also try a hot swap flash if you know what you are doing.
Last option is to contac MSI office, usually they will send a bios if live update was the cause, but that takes longer.
