K7D Master-L + ATI 9700 Pro won't boot WinXP

I posted about this a while ago, but none of the responses helped.
I can't boot into Windows XP. It gets to the black "progress bar" screen and stops. I can boot into Safe Mode, and when booting using the logging, it stops when loading the "agpgart" file.
I'm currently running Windows 2000 and still have an odd problem. The system detects two video cards: "RADEON 9700 PRO" and "RADEON 9700 PRO - Secondary".
I'm using the latest BIOS for the board, and latest drivers.
Any ideas?

I just finished redoing the drivers, and still have two display adapters listed. The only difference I can find, other than the name is this: one device is listed as "PCI bus 1, device 5, function 1" and the other is "PCI bus 1, device 5, function 0". The dual-output theory is probably correct, I never thought of that because I've never used the DVI output (I only have a CRT monitor), nor have I ever used a computer with a dual-head video card. I guess I assumed it would still show up as one device. Even if thats not correct, its good enough for me to forget about it! :P
When I was installing WinXP, it was a clean install. I've never seen a "100% successful" Windows upgrade, so I steer clear of doing that. I know enough to partition my drives so I don't have to reinstall everything or lose data through reinstalls. I recently got a new XP CD, one that includes Service Pack 1a. My other CD is the original release, so maybe that will help somehow. I was actually thinking about going the upgrade route, since full install doesn't work. I have no other PCI cards in the computer. I'm using the on-board NIC and audio.

I have an 845PE Max2 Fir (ms 6704 ) Win xp. Is anyone using the ati 9700 pro with this mb. if so did you have any problems with it and do you like it.  I haven't decided which card to buy yet but I surely don't like the idea of paying $4 to 500.00 bucks for the gfx which will be outdated before games are even made to utilize the features it will have.  Thanks

I agree with Richard...
The reviews I've seen show that the Ti4200 is right up there with the FX5xxx series cards until you get to the FX5900 and atm there are no games released that take advantage of the newer cards anyway so why spend money needlessly?
SWG and Unreal2 are going to be the first two games that support DX9 anyway and both will run on a Ti card very well...
Up to you cause it's your money but I wouldn't buy something that isn't going to give you the bang for your buck...why not save a little longer and buy something worthwhile like the 9800 or 5900? You must have a couple hundred by now...by the time you save a couple more hundred you'd be able to afford something quite a bit nicer...
Cheers!! 8)

• K8T Neo and AGP ATI 9700 Pro...Video Problems!

This computer has been out of service for almost 6 months as I have replaced it with a new one. I grabed it today and loaded XP Pro on it without any problems. I have 2 monitors attached to the ATI 9700 Pro both running at 1600x1200. After configuring the new OS with updates and drivers I rebooted. This is where the problem surfaced.
PROBLEM:
I get to the XP PRO Loading screen with the progress bar. After a few seconds, 2 revolutions from the progress bar, the screens go black and a few seconds after that the monitors go into standby due to the lack of a video signal.
MORE INFO:
Several times when I tried to reboot, the PC would not display video at all and beep (the video error), 7 times (I think). Now this problem is not happening. Although I did get random characters all over the screen once.
I can boot into Safe Mode without any problems.
480w Thermaltake PSU
THEORIES:
The AGP slot is having problems changing the resolution from default to 1600x1200 for the monitors.
NOTE:
This computer has always had problems, 99% of which were playing video games. The problems I experienced in video games were that the computer would lock-up or automatically reboot after random time intervals when playing games. The games I noticed it having the most problems with were Everquest II and World of Warcraft. I replaced this machine with a Dell and have had no problems with either application. Therefore I can rule out faulty software. At the time before replacing this machine I tested everything, Memory, Hard Drives, etc...

I got an ATI 9700 Pro, an Athlon 64 3200+ and 2x512 mb of Kingston Value Ram (bank 1 and 2).
The main settings i really don't know how to set are:

• Macbook pro won't boot - how do I retrieve emails?

Hey guys
I've got a common problem that my Macbook pro won't boot. Sometimes I get stuck on the grey screen with spinning wheel, sometimes on the blue screen with spinning wheel
I've scoured the internet on another machine and tried every trick I can find with the MacBook Pro including
Disk / Permissions repair from install disk (says the HD is fine)
PRAM
Single User
Soft
It seems like my only option at the moment is an Install and Archive. I can mount the MacBook Pro on another machine with a firewire and remove files and backed up a lot on a hard drive before it died
What I am worried about is how to retrieve some emails from the machine that only exist locally because I have deleted them from the server
Is there a way of doing that?
Would Migration Assistant work?
If anyone could help me with this or suggest any other methods for bring my machine out of a coma I'd really appreciate it

Try a different adapter. If you don't have access to a known-good adapter any other way, make a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store.

• Macbook pro won't boot, stuck on white apple screen

Noticed today, that my macbook pro won't boot . It gets to the white apple screen with the spinner under the apple logo. It stays like this for a long time without doing anything except spinning.
I've powered down and tried to boot up several times.
I have boot camp and windows on my mac and when the white screen appears, I can press Option to bring up which hard drive and the Windows partition will load without any problems.

Exacty what happens when you try to boot up from the disc that came with your computer?  Are you holding down the c key?  Have you tried holding down the "option key?"  Are you able to run the Hardware Test - Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer.  Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again.  If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up.  At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Lion - This will install a "fresh" copy of Lion without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems.  It's what you're paying them for.
Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

• MacBook pro won't boot up Keeps turning off

MacBook pro won't boot up.  When power button pressed the white screen w apple comes on w progress bar but shuts off before bar completed. If I move cursor or hit buttons it boots but will turn off if cursor stops Moving or stop pushing buttons.  Just started happening.   Ran hardware test and all shows ok.  Any ideas??

Thanks for all the help; however, I still continue to have problems booting off of any other media.
I've tried the Apple CD w/ no success - I made an image of the apple cd and restored it to a USB drive, and it won't boot. I've tested both methods on another mac, and both options boot fine.
I'm going with my last restort here and am going to install OSX on a portable USB HD, and try to boot off of that (no clue if it will work given the outcomes of the other things I have tried). From there I'm going to backup the HD, and try DW as suggested.
Any thoughts as to why the mac refuses to boot off of any other media? It always boots halfway and then tells me I need to shutdown my mac.
Thanks again,

• Macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3

macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear. Computer won't even start in safe mode.

My daughter's MacBook Pro was doing exactly the same thing.  I don't know if it had anything to do with the latest update.  She called me about a week ago saying that her MacBook began running slower by the day .  She then called me Friday and told me that it wouldn't get past the gray screen and the gear just kept on spinning.  I did everything I could over the phone including Safe mode which it wouldn't go into and thought maybe it was the hard drive.  She took it to the Apple store.  Originally, they also thought it was the hard drive.  It ended up being a corrupted operating system (Lion).  Apple genius simply re-installed Lion and she's back up and running.  Good thing she backed up right before it crapped out.  She'll be restoring everything tonight.  Don't know if re-installing Lion will help your situation, but it did the trick for my daughter.

My 2007 MacBook pro won't boot up beyond a White screen any ideas what to do?

Odd how this hasn't been archived yet.
I'm getting the same thing with my Macbook, but can't boot past the white screen. An Apple store in KS suggested I needed a new hard drive, but I've already put two in there and it's still doing the same thing. I really don't want to buy another motherboard like I had to a couple of years ago.
My choices are either buy a cheap drive to boot from and remove the current one to put into an external case, or save the money by not buying a new motherboard and putting it as a down payment toward a Mac mini.

• Need new ATI 9700 PRO CARD, where from?

MY old Dual G4 mirror door (1.4ghz) MAC has a 9700 ATI PRO card (that also supplies power via the ACD to the 23 inch cinema display). IT LOOKS like my Graphics card is dying, and want to get a new one, however if I get a new card, then I will also need the ADC adaptor ($179.00) from an apple store, then 49 bucks for a new ati card.. ouch. As all the common (PC type) made ati 9700 cards DONT supply power via the DVI out port, there fore:
What I am looking for is the Mac made ATI 9700 card that supplies power via the DVI/ADC cable so I dont have to buy the adaptor for the power for the display. Does anyone know where I can get the MAC MADE ATI 9700 card?
Thanks

Hi-
You can buy Geforce cards with ADC connectors at the following:
http://www.welovemacs.com/agpvideocards.html
Since the 9700 is no longer produced, and as the Geforce Ti4600 is exspensive, you'd probably be better off with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac, and the DVI to ADC converter. The Gefen DVI to ADC is $149 at the following:

The problems may lie with your card or the E7205.  I have not seen any issues with the Radeon and the E7205 before though so maybe just the specific card that you have???

• K7D Master-L graphics problem: multiple display adapters/no winxp star

Hiya,
I just recently bought a new K7D Master-L and I've had a few problems with it. Other than these issues the board has been great, but this is getting pretty annoying and I can't seem to fix it, so I'm posting here for advice/help/solutions.
System Specs: I have two AthlonMP 1900+ and 786MB Corsair RAM (registered PC2100, 512MB in slot 1, 256MB in slot 2). I have a WD400JB (40GB ATA100 drive with 8MB buffer) and a generic IDE CD/DVD-ROM. I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP card running at 4x.
When I first installed the motherboard I tried to load Windoze XP on it (actually I first used Linux but had ...driver problems). Anyway XP seemed to install fine, but upon reboot, the system would get to the "progress bar"/"OS loading" screen (the small blue bar that goes back and forth) and the bar would get stuck exactly 2 "bars" from where it started--every time. I could boot into safe mode, but nothing seemed screwy. Doign the command-line boot (I think) where it shows the drivers it is loading, it got to the "agpgart" file then stopped, maybe this was the problem. I gave up after a dozen reboots or so, trying various things, and installed Windows 2000+SP3.
Win2K installed fine, and after installing the drivers on MSI's site for northbridge, southbridge, audio, and lan, and installing ATI's latest Catalyst 3.4 drivers (I also tried 3.2), device manager had no more problems, save one.
The problem is that there are two display adapters listed: "RADEON 9700" and "RADEON 9700 (Secondary)". There were two adapters listed before I installed the drivers, called something like "Display Adapter" and "Display Adapter (VGA compatible)". In Properties it says "PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 1, device 5, function 0)", is this normal for AGP cards? Here is a screenshot (I disabled one to see if that helped my settings-loss problem, but it doesn't):

Whats worse is that the display settings don't seem to stick around across reboots--it always reverts to the default settings of 640x480x16--which is extremely annoying. These problems exist regardless of whether I have a Service Pack installed (currently I'm running on a fresh Win2K install with no updates and having the same issues). I've tried multiple drivers for the card and no change, I've tried with/without the updated chipset drivers, and I've had this same setup work on my previous motherboard (Tyan Tiger MP) without seeing multiple display adapters.
Any ideas? Or is there something that might fix my WinXP startup freeze? If so I could reinstall WinXP and see if that has the same multiple adapter problem...
Thanks for any advice.
Josh

Well my system just booted into 640x480x16, so it appears those registry changes didn't fix the issue. The registry settings were simply changed back to 640x480x16 for some reason. I haven't reinstalled the motherboard drivers, but I gathered them all up and I'll try this later today. Here are the latest drivers I found, all from MSI's site:

We shall see if this fixes the multiple adapter problem. As far as the display settings problem, I don't know that the deal is. It works fine on other motherboards with the same hardware and drivers, so it must be something with the K7D, Windows, and ATI interaction.

P.S.: There is a bug with this forum software and apostrohpies. Every time you preview your post it inserts escape characters ("\") before apostrphies, and also inserts escape characters for these escape characters, so quickly you have something like  "\\\\\\\'" where you want "'".
