K7D Master Problem

Hello all, I just purchased a K7D Master and 2 MP1800s. I cannot get the system to boot. The speaker emits a never ending click click click click and the D-LED shows all red, which the manual states, "The D-LED will hang here if the processor is damaged or not installed properly." I have tried both cpus by themselves in the primary cpu socket, and an XP 2100+ I had sitting here. All three processors work in other systems. I've cleared the CMOS multiple times, tried two different power supplies (Antec 350w, and a Thermaltake 480w), and in and out of a case. Any other things I should try?
Thanks,
Oldbenwa

Hi,
Probably a stupid suggestion but:

The speaker emits a never ending click click click click
Sounds like a stuck keyboard key! Dodgy keyboard perhaps! Well I'll give myself 10/10 for effort and 0/10 for helpfulness!
Sorry that's all I could think of!
Hi, I don't know much of your server board, but does it have a FSB jumper (SAFE/USER)? If it does, set to SAFE before clearing CMOS! Make sure you also completely Isolated (unplug it) from the mains supply while clearing!

Cool but the temps here and probably where you live (I checked your IP, we live 80km's apart ) are way lower then the last couple of day's.
So at lower temps, the PSU can deliver more power.
I hope it will still work when the hot temps are comming back.

I have problems with my K7D MAster board

Juansebastianco,
you can try this, to see if it makes a difference: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still crash after being on?

• I have problems with my K7D MAster board

I just have gotten hands on a new K7D master mobo (yeah i know it is not the newest board on the market but i had the cpus so why not). I have just installed Windows 2000 server on the machine. And everything was working fine until I was going to transfer some very large files over to my other computer (DVD isos 4,5 GB) and then the machine just locks up. And I have to reset it to get it up and running again.
I have changed the network adapter and reinstalled the whole system, but it doesnt help.
When i look under the device manager there is an unknown device called "unknown pci bridge" it seems its the AMD 768 chipset.
But here comes the real problem, I cant instal any AMD drivers?? When i try to instal the EIDE driver, the 768 chipset driver or any of the AMD drivers its just saying that there is no AMD components found.... And the driver wont instal.
Anyone heard of this before?

• K7D Master-L graphics problem: multiple display adapters/no winxp star

Hiya,
I just recently bought a new K7D Master-L and I've had a few problems with it. Other than these issues the board has been great, but this is getting pretty annoying and I can't seem to fix it, so I'm posting here for advice/help/solutions.
System Specs: I have two AthlonMP 1900+ and 786MB Corsair RAM (registered PC2100, 512MB in slot 1, 256MB in slot 2). I have a WD400JB (40GB ATA100 drive with 8MB buffer) and a generic IDE CD/DVD-ROM. I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP card running at 4x.
When I first installed the motherboard I tried to load Windoze XP on it (actually I first used Linux but had ...driver problems). Anyway XP seemed to install fine, but upon reboot, the system would get to the "progress bar"/"OS loading" screen (the small blue bar that goes back and forth) and the bar would get stuck exactly 2 "bars" from where it started--every time. I could boot into safe mode, but nothing seemed screwy. Doign the command-line boot (I think) where it shows the drivers it is loading, it got to the "agpgart" file then stopped, maybe this was the problem. I gave up after a dozen reboots or so, trying various things, and installed Windows 2000+SP3.
Win2K installed fine, and after installing the drivers on MSI's site for northbridge, southbridge, audio, and lan, and installing ATI's latest Catalyst 3.4 drivers (I also tried 3.2), device manager had no more problems, save one.
The problem is that there are two display adapters listed: "RADEON 9700" and "RADEON 9700 (Secondary)". There were two adapters listed before I installed the drivers, called something like "Display Adapter" and "Display Adapter (VGA compatible)". In Properties it says "PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 1, device 5, function 0)", is this normal for AGP cards? Here is a screenshot (I disabled one to see if that helped my settings-loss problem, but it doesn't):

Whats worse is that the display settings don't seem to stick around across reboots--it always reverts to the default settings of 640x480x16--which is extremely annoying. These problems exist regardless of whether I have a Service Pack installed (currently I'm running on a fresh Win2K install with no updates and having the same issues). I've tried multiple drivers for the card and no change, I've tried with/without the updated chipset drivers, and I've had this same setup work on my previous motherboard (Tyan Tiger MP) without seeing multiple display adapters.
Any ideas? Or is there something that might fix my WinXP startup freeze? If so I could reinstall WinXP and see if that has the same multiple adapter problem...
Thanks for any advice.
Josh

Well my system just booted into 640x480x16, so it appears those registry changes didn't fix the issue. The registry settings were simply changed back to 640x480x16 for some reason. I haven't reinstalled the motherboard drivers, but I gathered them all up and I'll try this later today. Here are the latest drivers I found, all from MSI's site:

We shall see if this fixes the multiple adapter problem. As far as the display settings problem, I don't know that the deal is. It works fine on other motherboards with the same hardware and drivers, so it must be something with the K7D, Windows, and ATI interaction.

P.S.: There is a bug with this forum software and apostrohpies. Every time you preview your post it inserts escape characters ("\") before apostrphies, and also inserts escape characters for these escape characters, so quickly you have something like  "\\\\\\\'" where you want "'".

• K7D Master-L with LAN problems

I've just completed construction of my new K7D Master-L based machine and am running into LAN problems.  The first K7D Master-L I received had a bad IDE controller on it, and now the replacement board has intermittent LAN issues.
WinXP Pro installed fine, and I was able to install the LAN driver from the MSI CD and get things up and running fine.  After about 20 minutes or so, the LAN connection drops out and then comes back a few minutes later.  This cycle repeats over and over.  There are no duplicate IP addresses on the network, there are no errors in the XP system log, and all of the other systems on the network continue to work fine during these down periods.
I checked on the MSI website, and there are no drivers available for the Intel 82551QM lan controller that is on the K7D Master-L board.  Does anyone know where I can get an updated driver to try?  These types of problems are most frustrating to debug.
Thanks,
Norm

Just an update to this:
The problem is definately the onboard LAN controller.  I've tried a Netgear card as well as a real PCI based Intel Pro 100 card and both are working great.  When I take the PCI cards out and try to use the onboard LAN, I still get intermittent outages.
Very strange.  If any MSI engineers are listening, I'd love to hear your opinions.  According to the OS, there are no IRQ, memory, or other conflicts that might be to blame.

• Problems with Promise SX6000 and MSI K7D Master

There is a problem with Promise SuperTrack SX6000 controller and motheboard MSI K7D Master.
We use most fresh bios for both products - version 1.5 for motheboard and build 77 for controller.
With previous controller's bios version it can't be initialize and now after initialisation the bios of controller does not show up.
It seems to be like one of problems wich are described in controller's manual, but this problem can't be decided by user's hand, but only new version of bios, we think.
What you can help ?

No ways ?

• MSI K7D Master L - CRC Problem

Hey gang.
I've been having some CRC troubles with my MSI K7D Master L.  On most occasions, I cannot perform an install from either of the cd drives--eventually a CRC error will pop up.  In addition, data on the hard disks (i.e. registry settings) dissapear or are corrupted.  Which sucks.  ...and you can imagine how my slightly corrupted windows install is performing :(.  ?(
Here's my specs:
-AMD MB 2800+ Barton (Only one CPU installed right now)
-1024 mb of Kensington ram
-ATI 9700 Pro
-Bios Version 1.3 (latest bios for Master L)
-Enermax 431watt power supply
-Creative Audigy Sound card (onboard sound disabled)
Just for reference, I've ran all the diagnostics (memtest86, and that IBM hard disk checker) and no problems show up.  Only the motherboard and processor are new... all of the components, cables, drives, etc. were working well before I poped in the new MB.  Of course, I started fresh with a clean formatted drive for my windows install.
I've heard that my Enermax 431 is about a 10 on the blows-O-meter.  Could this be the problem?  I realize that my new AMD 2800MP is prolly pulling out a bit more juice than before.
I love this motherboard, and I know that CRC errors are pretty rare on the K7D (cough, unlike some other MBs), I'd hate to have to RMA it.
Thanks in advance ,
JonnyLongTorso

Replaced the Enermax 431 supply with an Antec 550 watt unit.  Still getting the errors.
Any ideas?

Included with the board was a USB 2.0 card, which actually works, but according to my manual, my on-board ports should work, too..
I already emailed MSI tech support, however that was 2 weeks ago and they haven't since gotten back to me.

* Note: The AMD-760 MPX requires a portion of memory to be reserved for PCI devices. Allocation for these devices is dependent on the number of PCI devices installed, and option ROM for each device. Common configurations will see 3.5GB to 3.8GB of available memory.
Several brands of mainboard say this unless they support more than 4GB.
MSI does not mention this on their web site or in the manual.
I suspect the only solution is to get a mainboard that supports 6GB or more.

I have two new systems I put together, with the K7D Master board, and two AMD MP 2000+ on each board. Video card Quadro 750 xgl, and 512m pc2700 ram. I have pulled everything else out and the problem persists.
My problem after a fresh install of Win2k and both systmes runs great. I leave it on and during random intervals the systems will reboot it themselves. Both systems do the exact same thing, usually about once a day. They appear to run fine tempature wise, and both have the 1.6 bios update from MSI site. The doesnt appear to be any set time that it happens. Looking through the event log doesn't bring up anything useful, and I dont have anything loaded other than Win2k service pack 2, and all updated drivers, and security updates.

• K7D Master-L upgrade problem

Hi,
I just recently bought a second-hand MSI K7D Master-L to upgrade
my aging ASUS mobo. I used to have ASUS A7V with a 900mhz AMD Athlon
processor on it with Windows XP Pro installed.
Now the problem is that I just threw in the newer K7D Master with
one processor, AMD Duron 1600 mhz. I did not do a fresh winxp install,
although I wonder if it would have helped.
The OS won't boot - it just reaches the startup screen (the one that
comes just before login prompt) and then reboots. Every time it does
that in the exact same point.
I tried also to boot with Knoppix 3.6 Live CD and it hangs. I tried noapic
option and the same problem. Another Live Linux distro (can't remember
the name, included in the Ultimate Boot CD) shows: "apic error in cpu0" endlessly,
and hangs. Tried to run cpu test, but it hangs - the same error.
The bios version is 1.3, but I will have it updated to newest version within
some days (I screwed up the bios update ) by a computer shop.
Suggestions, anyone?
Regards: Juha

reinstall windows

BTW, did you mean K7T Master? i can't find a K7D Master. The CPU Support list for K7T Master indicates that your CPU is not supported anyway

Well let's see, The k7D is a dual mobo and will work with only a limited number of cards, after trying a few I finally settled on an nvidia Direct X 9.something (there is no name on the card, and I have 6 video card box's) I put in a a Wildcat 5110 I had laying around, but the driver doesn't support Max 8, or even 7, can't use software/Heidi. You just see the desktop through the viewports. This mobo uses an AGP pro slot, I don't even know if anyone's makeing these anymore.
Are you running linux ? If so i suggest a Nvidia card.
